Nigeria has a long, but discontinuous history of gold mining. Gold deposits in the Country can be found in alluvial and eluvial placers and primary veins from several parts of South West, North Central and North West Nigeria. Despite the huge reserve of this all import mineral in Nigeria, many people do not know how to go about it. Below is an offer I made to a Nairalander who read my post on gemstones and inquired about gold mining. You can get idea of the investment opportunity in gold mining in Nigeria from the private letter below:

Like I told you, it is easier to mine gold in Northern states, than our Southern states. Once you reached an agreement with the Northern Emirs and abaide by it, the subjects fall in line, but in the South, they almost always interfere with your work one way or the other. So, let's go for North for now and for easy take off.

The Abuja Gold Site did not workout because the land is small (2 hectares), and the owner is calling unreasonable price (N60m)

However, I got two Gold sites: one in Niger State and the other in Nasarawa State. The Niger Site is located at a locality where my younger brother is working with a Gold Mining Company. I sent him there to learn the mechanics of gold mining. They use semi-manual method of gold mining and they produce an average of 1kg of gold every week. It is estimated that with mechanized gold mining, 10kg - 20kg of gold would be produced weekly. A kilogram of gold of that quality here is sold for about N12m or thereabout.

I cannot give you an estimate of gold reserve in the Nasarawa Site for now, but a Deputy Director at the Ministry of Mines, who got the site for me told me that it has rich reserve. An accurate estimate of gold reserve in the sites can be obtained after a geo-survey. These two sites are free and the host communities are willing to welcome investors. You can actually obtain licenses to mine them.

I am convinced after the discussion with you last time that you are really interested to go into serious mining venture. Myself, I have been researching the Nigerian Solid Mineral Sector for the past six year, focusing on types and locations, contacts with host communities and Government Agencies, and connecting with other stakeholders. I believe that with my vast field knowledge and wide contacts in the sector, and your access to those with the technical know-how, we can achieve mind bowing success in the sector. I hereby offer you the following:

1. That it is more profitable for both of us to join our individual forces, contacts and resources together in a joint venture; and that I am willing to partner with you in mining of minerals in Nigeria.

2. That I have vast field knowledge and wide contacts in the mining sector, and that I am going to use my connections to get any type of site for any type of mineral we may jointly want to mine.

3. That I work with many Directors and Deputy Directors at the Ministry of Mines, and that I shall be responsible for the leg work of obtaining all necessary Licenses and Permits from any Government Agency as may be required for the smooth operation of this joint venture.

4. That I shall also be responsible for the organization of work at the site, and relations with host communities, Government Agencies and other stakeholders.

5. That you, as an individual, or in collaboration with your partners shall be responsible for financing the mining project from inception to such time the venture starts to support itself.

6. That you, or in collaboration with your partners shall be responsible for logistics for negotiations with host communities, settlement of negotiated terms, legal fees, fees for expert to conduct geo-survey, feasibility report & business plan; and fees for processing of Exploration/ Mining License, Blasting permit and any other permit that my be required by Law.

7. That I am willing to accept the following sharing formula of proceeds:
a. You. - 60%
b. Myself - 30%
c. Host communities & expenses - 10%

*BUDGET OF EXPENDITURE, EXCLUDING THE MINING WORK ITSELF:*
1. Logistics for negotiations with host communities - N200,000
2. Settlement of negotiated terms - N3m
3. Geo-survey, feasibility report & business plan - N500,000
4. Legal fee - N100,000
5. Surveyor fee for data collection (coordinates) and transportation - N80,000
6. Search with Mining Cadastral Office - N20,000
7. Exploration/ Mining License - N700,000
8. Blasting permit - N350,000
9. Miscellaneous - N200,000
*TOTAL: N5.35M*

*CONCLUSIONS:*
1. With N5.35m, we can acquire a site, settle host communities, process the license and blasting permit for handling of explosives, and be ready to start an operation that will last for about 25 years. If however, you wish to acquire the two sites, then the amount will be N10.3m

2. If my offer is acceptable to you, you should appoint a representative here to join me so we can draft an MOU and start the negotiations and processes because it always take time to conclude.

PROFIT ANALYSIS
Daily rental for truck is 60k*24days in a month that exclude Sundays making 1.444m monthly projected income .
EXPENDITURES
400k will be set aside monthly for repair and maintenance and salaries of workers
SHARING FORMULAR
1m will be shared monthly among the 10investor making 100k monthly for the next 5-6 or more year the truck will last
LEGAL AGREEMENT
