Madam, as long as it wasn't smuggled, customs won't do zilch to anyone.... Also, are you sure your shipper didn't collect any commission from the agent.....And clearing vehicle shipped in containers are more expensive than shipping as RORO.... offloading and trucking in and out of the port alone is almost N120k plus .......

My advice is that you continue using the car that way or you raise a D.N on it....

I bought a car from one of the auction sites in US and the car being an accident car was shipped in a container and the shipper assigned the container to it's clearing agent in Nigeria.

The agent collected 1.5 million from me to clear the car. The car is 2013 Camry. From the customs document he gave me, I can deduced he paid only 650k as duty. He couldn't explain the where about of the balance, though I know there might be other port charges he paid.

My question now is how do I recover my money from him.

Can I report him to customs?

Which car sales site in the US offers cheap and has more reputation among these: copart, IAAI or auction export>?

I want to buy a car from them.

Ok Halima, do not freak out. I doubt anything is wrong with the car you bought apart from the rear collision.
The car is marked Non-driveable, most likely because the accident affect the rear tyres. Which translates to the suspension.
It probably has nothing to do with the engine. Check if it is marked that the car starts, if so the engine is intact, you just have body repairs and rear suspension to fix.

The drivability makes only a $200 difference in forklift handling charge to load the car onto a ship. Even if the car was drivable, you cannot drive it to a port in US as long as it is has a salvage title, so you will still pay about $300 for towing or haulage to port.

Tip: you can make your own shipping arrangement to save cost, about $800. Do not rack up storage bills, pay on time. Buy parts in US if you have contacts on ground. If not, the auction company can help you too. Repairs for that car will be under 500k, with parts bought in Nigeria, so you have a good deal in your hands.

Buy doing the repairs locally, you are providing employment locally. Also understand that the only reason those repairs are not done in US is because of the labour cost. It costs a lot to fix a car outside of warranty in their system. As the month has just ended, am guessing you might have missed the nearest shipping cut-off date, work towards the next one. Best ship via Grimaldi, you can use AES as agent.

Please reject this.The worst that can happen will be for you to lose some money.Believe me this car is not worth it at all.At the end you will end up spending more on this car.

The stress of getting the spare parts
The parts for Ford will be expensive
The labour and painting again will cost you a lot
The customs charges will be the same..There will be no reduction

Please I have experienced this before and believe me its not worth it.Please reject it and look for a clean car that will give you peace of mind..
