The defining factor of a delta is that a river flows into an ocean or sea. If it is about branching into other rivers then almost every river on earth would be a delta.

A Delta is a point where a river empties into an ocean. In Delta State, we have several Deltas. One of them is the Niger Delta where the River Niger empties into the Atlantic. The Ethiope Delta also exists, among other Deltas. The map you posted doesn't indicate the Deltas in Delta State. Many of them are in Urhoboland.
