The Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has sentenced Abdulrahman Bello to death by hanging for the murder of Hafsoh Lawal, a final-year student of the College of Education, Ilorin.

The Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr. Paul Enenche, has rejected a ₦30 million cash donation offered by Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, during a crusade organized by the church in Kebbi State.

The incident occurred during the Kebbi Healing and Deliverance Crusade, where the state’s Commissioner for Social Duties, Zayyanu Umar Aliero, presented the cash on behalf of the governor. Aliero stated that Governor Idris had approved the donation for the crusade’s organizing committee and ensured the money was made available in cash.

“Our Governor, His Excellency Dr. Nasir Idris, a faithful and Comrade Governor, has graciously approved ₦30 million for this gathering. As always, he ensures that every donation he makes is delivered in cash,” Aliero said while addressing the crowd.

However, taking the stage shortly after, Pastor Enenche politely declined the donation, requesting instead that the funds be redirected to charitable causes such as orphanages.

“If there is an orphanage or similar charity in need, kindly channel this amount there. We will not receive it,” Pastor Enenche firmly stated.

Later, Pastor Enenche elaborated on the church’s position, emphasizing that public funds should serve public projects and not be mixed with church finances. “We believe government funds should be used exclusively for government purposes, while church funds are for church projects. Even the Glory Dome, as magnificent as it is, was built without government money from the land to the building itself,” he explained.

He stressed that the church must depend on divine provision and maintain its independence: “This allows us to speak truthfully whenever necessary, retaining our dignity as the Body of Christ.”

Pastor Enenche also suggested that such donations, if genuinely intended for religious purposes, be handed over to established government religious bodies like the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board or the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

“Be a man.”

Three small words, but for many boys in Nigeria and around the world, it feels like a life sentence.

From when a boy is a toddler, he is told what a man should be, strong, brave, quiet, and always in control. If he cries, he is told to stop acting like a girl. If he shows fear, they say he is weak.

If he talks too much about feelings, people look at him funny. He is told to carry his pain like a badge of honour and keep going, no matter what. What if everything we told our boys about being a man is the very thing that is hurting them?

That’s the twist. What if the phrase “Be a Man” is not making our boys stronger but actually breaking them from the inside?

The Emotional Load Boys Carry Silently

Many boys are growing up learning how to hide not how to heal.

At home, if a boy is being bullied or abused, he may never speak up. At school, if he is struggling with his studies or mental health, he will most likely keep it to himself. Have you ever wondered why?

Basically it is because he has been taught that asking for help means he is not man enough.

Boys Don’t Cry But Maybe They ShouldAmerican psychologist Dr. Niobe Way once said that, “Boys are born with the full range of human emotions, empathy, sadness, tenderness but we teach them to cut off parts of themselves.”

That is exactly what happens. They learn to cut off tears, fear, and love. They grow up emotionally numb.

Let’s be honest. Many boys around the world face pressure not just to pass exams but to be perfect sons, future leaders, and family providers.

This pressure often doesn’t look like pressure, it looks like silence. When a girl cries over school stress, she might get a hug but if a boy tries to do the same, he hears “boys don’t cry” and so, he starts to believe he must carry it all alone.

Brené Brown, a renowned researcher, stated that “We’ve confused strength with silence, and it’s killing our boys.” Yes, it is killing them. Globally, more men die from suicide than women. Not because they don’t feel pain, but because they’re too afraid or ashamed to talk about it.

Masculinity and the Way Boys Treat Others

It doesn’t end with boys suffering quietly. This idea of toughness affects how boys relate with others especially girls.

If a boy thinks being a man means being dominant and emotionless, how will he treat women with empathy? If he thinks compassion is weakness, how will he build healthy relationships?

Bell hooks, a feminist writer, said that, “The first act of violence that patriarchy demands of males is not violence toward women. Instead, it is the emotional self-mutilation, the sacrifice of their own emotional well-being.”

This is deep! Before boys ever become men who hurt others, they first become boys who are taught to hurt themselves.

This teaching doesn’t come from strangers, it comes from home, school, religion, and culture.

Where Did Boys Learn This?

The idea of masculinity did not fall from the sky. It was passed down like family recipes.

Fathers who never hugged their sons. Teachers who punished boys for crying. Mothers who told their boys to be strong like your father. Even pastors or imams who preached that men must always be the head and never show emotion.

Over time, these messages become normal even when they are harmful.

Former American footballer Joe Ehrmann said that, “We’ve taught boys that being a man means having power over others instead of having power with others.”

This mindset limits boys. It teaches them that to be respected, they must always lead, win, and dominate. It is a trap!

Change Is Coming Slowly, But Surely

Not everyone is staying silent. Some schools and NGOs in Nigeria and around the world are stepping in to help boys feel and talk openly.

There are now safe spaces in a few schools where boys are encouraged to speak about pressure, fear, and pain. Some teachers have started to guide boys in peer mentoring and emotional discussions.


Some NGOs like Mentally Aware Nigeria Initiative (MANI) and She Writes Woman are changing the conversation around mental health, especially for boys and men.

Psychiatrist Dr. Gabor Maté noted that emotional competence is what allows us to live healthy lives. Without it, boys become men who are afraid of themselves.

The statement by Dr. Gabor is indeed very true. If a boy grows up not knowing how to name his emotions, he becomes a man who runs away from them or he lets them explode in harmful ways

We need a new kind of masculinity. Let’s stop pretending like boys do not feel pain. Let’s stop training our sons to be robots instead of human beings.

The truth is, there is nothing weak about crying. There is nothing wrong with asking for help and there is nothing unmanly about being kind, vulnerable, or emotional.

Boys Don’t Cry But Maybe They ShouldChimamanda Ngozi Adichie once stated that, “Masculinity becomes a hard, small cage, and we put boys inside it.”

That cage is not natural, it is man-made and it is time to break it open.

Let’s raise boys who know that being a man doesn’t mean hiding your tears. It means knowing when to cry and when to comfort. It means being brave enough to say, I’m not okay. It means growing into full, balanced human beings not half of one.

So next time someone says, “Be a man,” maybe it is time we ask, What kind of man are we raising?

Let’s raise a generation of boys who are free to feel, free to speak, and free to be human.

If being a man means silence, suffering, and shame then maybe, just maybe, it is time we stop and rethink everything.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced the rescheduling of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 379,997 candidates who were affected by technical and administrative glitches nationwide.

The process started Thursday morning, following an official announcement by JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, during a press briefing held in Abuja on Wednesday.

Professor Oloyede confirmed that a total of 206,610 candidates were affected across 65 centres in Lagos State, while 173,387 candidates encountered issues in 92 centres within the Owerri zone, which covers the five South-East states.

To ensure fairness, the board has initiated a nationwide rescheduling process to allow all affected candidates a chance to retake the examination under improved and secure conditions.

"The affected candidates will start receiving text messages for their rescheduled exams starting tomorrow. I apologise, and I take full responsibility,” Oloyede stated.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed a lawsuit against Professor Pat Utomi over alleged plans to establish a "shadow government" in Nigeria.

In a suit lodged at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the DSS urged the court to declare the alleged move an unconstitutional act and a direct threat to national stability.

Prof. Utomi, the 2007 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), was named as the sole defendant in the suit filed on May 13 by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Akinlolu Kehinde.

According to the DSS, Utomi’s alleged attempt to form a parallel administration is designed to create chaos and destabilize the democratically elected government.

The secret police described the idea of a “shadow government” as a grave violation of the constitution and warned that it posed serious threats to national peace and order.

As of now, the case is yet to be assigned to a judge for hearing.

A former Kano State governorship aspirant and Secretary General of the Northern Reform Organisation (NRO), Builder Abdulkadir Yusuf Guɗe, has passed away at the age of 63.

A close associate and fellow NRO member, Malam Hamisu Umar Yakasai, announced Guɗe's death, stating that he died in the early hours of Friday after a prolonged illness.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested five suspects in connection with the abduction and gruesome murder of a one-year-old girl, Sakina Mamuda, in Duhun Bake village, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.

The President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has dismissed growing calls for his resignation over sexual harassment allegations made by the suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

He also compared his situation to Black Americans who were wrongfully imprisoned due to racial prejudice.

“Who told you I was going to step down? If you watch recent revelations in America, you’ll see how some Black people were imprisoned for 25 or 27 years over false accusations,” Akpabio added.

Since the allegations surfaced, several prominent figures including former Senate President Bukola Saraki, civil society groups, and public commentators have urged Akpabio to step aside to allow for an impartial investigation.

In addition to the harassment claims, Akpabio is facing public scrutiny over alleged links to a professor recently convicted of electoral fraud in connection with the 2019 general elections.

Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has rejected recent comments by the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, regarding the integrity of the upcoming September 21, 2024, governorship election in the state.

Itua emphasized that the peace and stability of Edo State are paramount and affirmed that Governor Okpebholo would not tolerate any attempt to undermine the state’s democratic progress.

He reiterated that the people of Edo State have spoken, and their voice must be respected.

While authorities have yet to confirm any fatalities, multiple injuries were reported. Dangote Refinery Limited has again slashed the price of its Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol to ₦835 per litre.

This follows a recent ₦15 reduction in its loading cost for PMS.

The new price represents a ₦30 reduction from ₦865 per litre implemented six days ago, marking a 3.5 per cent decrease, and a ₦45 drop from the ₦880 per litre sold by the facility a week ago.

This price cut marks Dangote’s third downward adjustment in under six weeks.

Dangote Refinery reportedly informed the public in a notice sent out on Wednesday morning.


The PMS at the gantry will now sell for ₦835 per litre, inclusive of Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) statutory levies. However the coastal sales of PMS remain on hold.

For diesel, the gantry price is set at $608 plus a $70 surcharge, payable either in naira at ₦1,650/$ or in USD.


Jet fuel will be sold at $664.75 with a $42 gantry surcharge and a $22 coastal surcharge. Prices for cooking gas at both gantry and coastal points are currently on hold.

Colombia has declared a national health and economic emergency over a deadly yellow fever outbreak, with the government urging people to get vaccinated and take precautions while traveling over Easter weekend.

The mosquito-borne virus, which typically causes fever, muscle pains, nausea, and headaches, is endemic to multiple countries in South America, including Colombia, where the current outbreak has had a high mortality rate.

At least 34 people have died among 74 confirmed cases since the start of the year, Minister of Health Guillermo Jaramillo told state-run Radio Nacional de Colombia on Wednesday.

“It’s a disease with a mortality rate of nearly 50% among those infected,” he said while explaining the emergency decree.

Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro announced an economic emergency alongside the health decree, and called on citizens to get vaccinated.

The Nigerian Army has appointed Lieutenant Colonel Onyinyechi Anele as the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, marking a historic milestone as she is the first woman to occupy the position.

Anele, a member of Direct Regular Course 15 and a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, takes over from Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, who has been redeployed to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre.

“Visit Indonesia, many on death row for drug crimes are from Anambra. These lies have devastating consequences,” he said.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has dragged the acting chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Jarret Tenebe, to court over what it described as the illegal invasion, violent eviction, and forceful takeover of its state secretariat located on Airport Road, Benin City.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is seeking a perpetual injunction to restrain Tenebe and his agents from trespassing or conducting any business within the premises at No. 49 Airport Road, Benin City, which the party claims to have legally leased from one Mr. Enima Agbongaen.

There are several challenges why biogas adoption remains low. Firstly, setting up a household biogas system costs between ₦100,000 and ₦300,000, an amount many families cannot afford. Beyond cost, lack of awareness is a major barrier. Many Nigerians do not understand how biogas works or believe it is unreliable.

In rural areas, cultural resistance also plays a role, as firewood has been used for generations, making people hesitant to switch. Another major issue is the lack of government support. Unlike countries where biogas adoption is encouraged through subsidies and incentives, Nigeria has not invested enough in policies that promote its use.

Despite these challenges, biogas offers significant benefits. Over time, it is cheaper, as it reduces the need to buy cooking gas or kerosene. It also helps the environment by managing waste more efficiently and reducing pollution.

More importantly, it improves health, eliminating the harmful smoke from firewood and kerosene that causes respiratory diseases. These benefits, in addition to what has been stated, include odor control, improvement of air and water quality, improvement of the nutritional value of produced fertilizer and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Biogas haas the potential to help Nigeria reduce its dependence on fossil fuels, lower energy costs, and create a cleaner environment. However, for this to happen, there must be government support, public awareness, and investment in infrastructure. The future of biogas in Nigeria depends on the choices made today.
