A photo has been trending on the Internet which shows the all current English Premier League managers in their playing days. From Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger and Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal had a playing career before they went to the bench for coaching. Wenger played for Strasbourg, Mourinho for Rio Ave, Van Gaal for Royal Antwerp and Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini for Universidad de Chile where he would go on to spend the rest of his career. Aston Villa’s Tim Sherwood famously captained Blackburn to the Premier League title in 1995, Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe played for Portsmouth, Crystal Palace coach for the club and Everton boss Roberto Martinez for Wigan. Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri played for Roma, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers for Ballymena United, Newcastle boss Steve McClaren played for Derby in the early 1980s while Norwich City manager played at Hamilton Academical. Southampton boss Ronald Koeman had a fantastic playing career with Ajax, PSV and Barcelona, Stoke boss Mark Hughes also had a successful playing career at Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Chelsea. Sunderland’s Dick Advocaat played for some clubs in Holland and in the NASL in America, Swansea coach Garry Monk played for the Welsh club, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino played for Espanyol, Paris Saint-Germain, Bordeaux and Newell's Old Boys, Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores spent much of his career at Valencia before moving on to Real Madrid – where he won the League in 1995, West Brom boss Tony Pulis played for Bristol Rovers and while West Ham's Slaven Bilic played for Hajduk Split.
