Engrkingsley: U have a point, but there are some little harmless gesture that can open doors for you... appreciation makes things smooth on both ends.... won't you b happy if Ur boss tells U thank you when U do Ur job ??.. it's same feeling d boss gets too Can what you infer while working in an organisation like Lafarge Cement. A hardworking staff should be rewarded without taking into consideration whether he is appreciative of his salary or not. |

histemple: Her action is NOT commendable at all. It's actually annoying, extremely unprofessional and absolutely reprehensible.
Imagine if every staff of UBA Plc start sending appreciation messages to Tony Elumelu every month end upon receiving salary. I was only being modest. It's annoying truly. It's because of how culturally inclined we are as Nigerians that made such happenings occur. |

Justiceleague1: And 36 hunkheads appended Thier likes to this thrash from an ungrateful person like you..... Do you know of the parable in the Bible of the three servants whose masters gave certain amounts of talents (money in those days) to hold while he went on a journey? It's not that related to this topic but you fit perfectly well on the servant that was given the least talent and what he did with it and his response to his master when he came back I admire your confidence in the absence of knowledge. |

Filipy: You are very right!
Me, as an HR Personnel, the act of appreciation after salary is somehow unethical Thanks for your comment. Imagine how many thank you messages you will receive monthly such should be occurring in your organisation. Many will go haywire if I were to say some organisations doesn't even require you to say Sir/Ma to your senior colleagues or bosses. Even Mr or Mrs is not allowed in some settings, it's only pure business of addressing people by their names. |

DataDoc: Dey there dey speak grammar.
You don't know what gratitude can cause. I can cite examples.
Again, this is not an "organization" as you think. It's probably a small scale business where everyone in the business know one another personally.
To find thankful people nowadays is a rare gift and can open doors for the person. That was why I said this tokenism doesn't work in big organisation. It only thrives in small to some medium size organisation. |

grandstar: I don't just think it's the salary.
The salary might be generous (above the going rate), and she might treat her employees very well.
The message sounds genuine and not forced.
However. If it's stems from abuse or intimidation, that's a different matter. I like your line of thought. |

Thunderfayamods: Mr saner clime please which clime is sane in this world.? In the developed country where I live people still say thanks you when paid, it is your right but saying thank you is just a form of normal courtesy. I am sure you have probably not stepped out of Nigeria Mr Saner clime. I have travelled out of Nigeria twice for your information and it doesn't matter the destination. I don't have to travel to America or Europe to be able to know what's happening there, the world is now a global village. Now calm down and imagine what happens in big organisations in Nigeria. Do you think CEO of Dangote Refinery with his huge salary will be sending thank you message to Dangote for paying him. Just calm down and think. |

Amumaigwe: Just like asking why one should thank the waiteress for the diligence employed in serving one's meal in a restaurant. In the saner clime you referenced, some clients even show their gratitude with good tips. You forget that one can pay for a service without getting the promised service level or value. The employers make the promises to clients, the employees keep those promises and may choose not to fully provide the promised value or even do it grudgingly. Who is cheated is the client, and it is wisdom for them to help encourage those first line employees to continue to deliver quality services. Wirh that, the business owner wins, the clients wins and employee wins too. Some of you are getting me wrong, giving tips for job well-done is different. Do you think people working in big organisations will be thanking their bosses after getting their salaries. It can only happen in a small-medium organisations and it's because of our mentality as Nigerians. I'm not going against being appreciative but not in work place, especially when it comes to salary. |

forexprophet: I see. It is clear you don't understand this law. The law of honor and appreciation is one the most powerful laws that open doors speeding. If don't understand, it means you will not understand. It is difficult to understand. Giving to people richer than you is another advanced mode of the same law....... I just wish you understand it..... but your heart is hardened already..... So sorry. How is my heart hardened for not expressing approach after receiving my salary. Such thing only happens in a small organisation. |

 Staff wey know whatsxup.
He knows appreciation is the application for more...
Now tell me why such a staff won't be considered for promotion should the time for promotion comes? Even though her action is commendable, we need to let go of such mentality as it doesn't work in saner climes and better organisation in Nigeria. I find it hard to see why an employer will be expecting me to show appreciation for receiving a salary I toiled for. Was the employer thanking me while I was doing the job. |

TONYE001: Please, stop giving them anything.
See if you can report to the police without disclosing your identity.
Importantly, plan to relocate ASAP.
Those boys are subhumans with no brain in their skulls.... living close to them exposes you to all sorts of risks. Relocate ASAP. That was what I did while in 300lvl in Unilorin. Cultists storm my area till some of my neighbours joined, I didn’t even went back to pack, I had to send money to one of my friend to help me do that. There's a chance they would force you to join if you act too timid or continue to extort you. They are one of the silent problems we are facing in Nigeria Higher Institutions. |

pdppower: There's a private school in Ikorodu side where the proprietor always frowns whenever teachers want to go home after school closes by 5pm. If he wants to call a meeting, the meeting won't start until after 5pm and will last nothing less than 2 hours.
It's really a curse to be poor in this country. I once teach in a school whereby on Friday despite the proprietor being a Muslim delayed us with meeting until almost 3pm. Alhamdulillah for my new job, I can never teach again. And I pray i get a better paying job. |

chipet67: 26k is not my problem. This is not the first scholarship I have applied for and won. The ones with a fee attached is made known. If I so love the service, I'd go ahead and register.
The challenge is not being transparent about the process. I once applied to AltschoolAfrica with the thought that there will be a scholarship, and surprisingly it came with an application fee as well. I tell you almost all EdTech company will require application fee. |

Kingdavid579: I applied for their so‑called _free_ scholarship, but I was later asked to pay over ₦20,000 for something that was advertised as free.
I’m still getting email reminders about the money 😂.
It’s not fair — they’re misleading people, inviting them to class and then using email reminders to kpai them. How much is the application fee compare to the course fee. Almost every organisation does that to bring in only committed students. I applied, got the scholarship and paid it as well. Imagine if there was no scholarship. |

Pwaco: I don't know why everything in Nigeria is about money, I was not surprised when I heard that number of persons affected with HIV AIDS have increased in Adamawa state.
I visited general Hospital Numan, in Adamawa state to conduct HIV AIDS test but they asked me to pay and even in Taraba State the same issue.
Please is this issue of payment to know one status is approved by government or just corruption?.
Please share your own experience. I went to a government hospital in Osogbo and I was approached by a lady to take HIV test and the only thing I bought was gloves. They might be taking advantage of them because the rate is rampant over there. |

Blueace247: I so much love your point 1
There's this client I met here on nairaland. He was seeking for ghostwriter. I contacted him and wrote some 5k words for him. He paid me 8k..after a while, he contacted me if I could write in some structured style..I replied him with "yes bro". He was like " he wants his dealings with me to be very professional and that I should regard him as sir".. I lol and told him, that he is a clown. Even the people we have written for who have paid us over 300k for complete books no dey cap careless. I told him clearly I won't take that from him..he is not rendering me a favour. I offer services and he pays for my services. I told him that what I said is without fear or favour. Ever since then, he didn't contact me again!.
I no go call cow bros because I wan chop am! He is very unserious, what effrontery? Calling him sir, even if he's your boss, calling sir would be willfully not by force. And the problem with Nigerian client is they don't pay well. Someone once gave me a gig of 40k per month and I have to upload 20 posts per day everyday. I kuku decline it. |
