Sometimes the media is the problem in this country. Where did Philip Shuaibu Parallel primaries hold? Who conducted it? Who declared him winner? Which other contestants were there? Was INEC involved?

Now the Media won't ask this kind of questions to be proactive and show that they know their onions. But a portfolio man will just corner a few online media, give them 50k each and voila they produce news!

We should be better than this. I am ashamed of the idiots that handle our media.

I actually watched the 2 primaries on Television today,
Philip Shuaibu won at his faction and was declared winner by the returning officer

At the other end, held at Samuel Ogbemudia stadium Which is believed to be the real PDP faction, attended by some state governors, Asue Ighodalo was declared winner after pulling about 500 votes.

So the main question would be, who among the 2 will be recognised by INEC and certified to contest on the main election

Business / Re: Naira Hits ₦2,000/1£ At Parallel Market (From ₦1930/£) by Harrynight(m): 8:58am On Feb 20
nairalanda1:

Because...and no, I am not here to defend anyone, nor am I political. Let's kick politics off the table.

1. Our forex needs were not as massive under Obasanjo as they are now.

2. In 2005, Obasanjo got debt relief. That, followed by years of favourable oil price increases till April 2014, meant that we had enough cash to defend the naira so to speak.

3.When the oil prices crashed, we were able to pay for buffering the naira for a while, using accumulated savings...that was from April 2014. The first sign of danger was when GEJ was borrowing to pay salaries.

4.By the time Buhari came in, oil prices were on the decline. The response of Buhari was to borrow, and when that was not feasible, to spend more and more of our forex reserves. Of course, oil kept on falling, because the good times were over.

Now back up a bit. If you have read Americanah by Adiche, you would have noted that in the early chapters, one of the main characters describes growing up under hard times.

From 1973-82, we had favourable oil prices. Thus we had forex to defend the naira...and naira was 1 to 1 with dollar. Following the crash of Sept 1982, we had falling oil prices. 1982-2004 was in many ways a bad time for Nigeria....as low oil revenues meant we was not prosperous. It was only periodic devaluation of the naira ...and periodic reduction in subsides that kept us afloat.

Keep in mind, Naira was falling all this while. From N1 to N1 In 1978, it went down to N180-1 dollar in 2014. That is was not worse was due to buffering, and that worsened our debt.

Now here we are. We can't borrow any more. Tinubu cannot borrow anymore, and IMF is waiting for him with harsh policies.

Whereas if we had diversified since independence...we might have had alternate sources of dollars by now. Not everything need come from oil.

Yes, we had 'stable currency back then' but to maintain it, we paid a great price. And it wasn't like the naira was strong then...it was very weak.

Learned!👍

nairalanda1:

Are these things giving us export revenue? The answer is...not sufficently enough.

Our revenue comes 80% from oil, 20% from other things, incl. taxes.

Why was the dollar exchange rate more reasonable and stable under OBJ and GEJ

And skyrocketing on a daily during this Tinubu administration?

nairalanda1:

With a forex reserve of 4 bn and with hefty loans leading to the debt that is eating 90% of our revenue , yes we ain't earning enough

I don't like BDC, but banning them won't change anything. No dollars to buffer the naira. Simple and short

See why you guys have never had good leadership? Up to today most of our revenue comes from oil. Oil prices are too volatile to pay us enough. Sensible government would have diversified since. Including this one

We are already in Agriculture Massively
We are into Tech and Finances
We are into madia and entertainment

Why do people conclude some other people are stingy because they refuse to give them a job? Do not conclude now until you get to that level, then let's see if you can help everyone that comes to you.

I use to think those uncles that promised us jobs after graduation are wicked until I became an uncle too and realize that even though I wanted to, I couldn't help everyone.

People at that level have so many people seeking one favor or the other from them, it is really unfair to conclude they are stingy because things are not usually the way we think they are.

But until you get to that level, never conclude.

I would've loved to say God bless you immediately

This is what the North Africans side, especially Morocco should emulate, not trying to be a radical nuisance anytime they lose. (Inclusive of their club sides)

Morocco is a big name in African football, their ambition is to win the trophy so you don't expect them to be glad getting knocked out in round of 16.

Angola has never reach semi final in AFCON, I think that would be their prime target First, so getting knocked out in Quarter final by the mighty Super Eagles of Nigeria the Giant of Africa and with a single goal, Angola should be going home with their shoulder held high.
