I have a confession to make. And that is to tell you outright that I am writing this from a biased view only. That view reasons that there is nothing desirable in masturbation; forget whatever contrary information that is available to you. A lot of us misuse our bodies, saying it is our private affair and nobody else’s business. Unfortunately for us, it is not exactly correct because, at least, before God, we have no privacy; He even knows the intents of our hearts. Whatever we do with our bodies, either within the confines of our bedrooms or publicly, are of great interest to Him. God is definitely incensed to see us mess up a body He so much desires to indwell. Now, what is masturbation anyway? It is simply the act of manually stimulating and arousing oneself sexually. It is an old practice of achieving sexual satisfaction without the opposite sex as God intended. It is also referred to as self-abuse but today’s libertines have jettisoned the tag to make it more acceptable. However, that is as far as man goes. He is quick to tell you that masturbation is necessary when your spouse is absent or indisposed. He adds that it reduces tension and generally relaxes the nerves, even helping the prostate. Nevertheless, God did not programme the body for such manipulation. Friend, you should not fall prey to all the cancerous metaphors with which the devil cloaks sin. God regards such inappropriate use of the body as sexual sin or immorality and warns us in 1Corinthians 6:18 to flee from it. The truth definitely is that it is natural to have sexual urge. Would it not be better, perhaps, to masturbate than commit fornication or adultery under the circumstance? As attractive as this line of reasoning seems, God, however, does not make any distinction between both acts because doing so is as good as fornication or adultery as could be deduced from Matthew 5:28. Every sexual sin is a byproduct of your thought. It is usually inflamed by fantasy, visualisation, including ogling the naked parade the devil has purposely splashed on our society, and pornography (blue films). It also includes lusting after the opposite sex. It is obvious that failure to tame this wild feeling finds recourse in masturbation as an outlet and in most cases; you have the picture of the opposite sex of your fancy in mind while abusing yourself. In other words, just as the scriptures say, you have already committed the act in your mind and cannot escape the guilty verdict. The so called relief masturbation offers is actually fleeting and in the real sense, none at all. It only creates deeper desire for sex in the long run, resulting in more and more masturbation and ultimately leads to addiction, which culminates in both physical and psychological harm. The idea of this write up is not to condemn but to expose masturbation for what it truly is, which is that it is an act every man or woman, especially youths, should resent. There is hardly any young man who did not masturbate while growing up and experience shows that one actually feels self-defiled after the act. It results in complex feelings before the opposite sex and such a person may never really successfully woo a woman. Moreover, it weakens sex drive and a masturbation addict will always find it difficult to enjoy sex, even with the most beautiful and experienced woman. It has been already stated that this write-up is to help self-abusers to come off the act, not to condemn them. It is not an easy task though but if we commit to the Holy Spirit, it is quite easy. You must be bold to accept your guilt and confess it to God, who is ever-willing to forgive you. Then, you need to disconnect with whatever stirs desire for this despicable sin of self-abuse.
