Literature[story] FORGOTTEN SANDS Chapter 1 by Hedowho(op): 2:14am On Jan 18, 2019
The hot sun beat down upon she, relentless and merciless, sweat beading upon her brow and dripping down her nose, but Lera did not notice. It was here, she knew it was here.

She’d studied old maps, the paintings, deciphered their hidden secrets, and now she was going to find it. It didn’t matter that they hadn’t had enough money to send her to school, that she worked as a common cleaner just as her mother had.

One day she was going to be a great archaeologist, starting right here, with her very first find.

Wiping her brow, Lera surveyed the pit she’d dug with some measure of pride. It had taken a lot of hard work, but she had to find the temple before the sands changed and hid it once more.

She’d been digging since before sunrise, and so far the pit she stood in was all she had to show for it. But soon, very soon she’d find the temple, and then-

A faint rumble was the only warning she got before the earth suddenly dropped out beneath Lera’s feet. She yelped as she fell, a rush of sand and stale air around her, then just as quickly as it had begun her fall ended with a rather bruising landing on hard stone.

For a moment she simply lay there. Catching her breath, then slowly she got to her feet and looked around.

It was dark, the only light coming from a small hole high above, but what little light there was revealed strong stone walls embellished with elaborate murals.

A few paces away she could make out a pillar with an old torch sitting in a worn sconce. In the area where she’d fallen, there was sand and a few chunks of rocks on the floor by her pack, but further away the floor was bare, untouched by the elements.

Lera felt elation rising in her throat. She’d found it. She’d actually found the temple. She will be famous, and finally be able to go to school to become a real archaeologist.

Only…..

The air was stale, closed inside for so many centuries. The hole Lera had fallen through was allowing fresh air in,but from the smells of things,it was the only hole to the outside. If she didn’t find a way to climb back out again, then there was a good chance that she would die here in her temple.

For the first time, she felt a shiver of fear.

Swallowing it down, Lera picked up her pack and fished out her torch, switching it on. A rush of relief sped through her as the beam of light appeared in the darkness; it had not been damaged in the fall.

The light revealed more of the temple, elaborate carvings interspersed with paintings, and not too far away she saw a doorway. Perhaps there would be something deeper in the temple that she could use, something to help her escape.

She could only hope.

Shouldering her bag, Lera made her way to the doorway and beyond looking for anything that might be useful. She passed from a large room into a smaller one, then another smaller still.

This once actually had tapestries hanging, still vibrant in the torchlight, and she was careful not to touch them as she edged around them to find out what was behind. Gold glinted, and she very nearly dropped the torch as she suddenly found herself facing a man-sized statue with the head of a jackal. It had been painted from head to toe, making it seem almost lifelike,an illusion only emphasized by the very real jewelry it wore. Gold of course, from the hands of skilled artisans at wrist, arm, neck, and head.

Lera frowned. One of them looked out of place amongest the rest. This was an Egyptian temple but the small golden pendant hanging from a cord around the statue’s neck looked more Greek than Egyptian, and the craftsmanship was not the same.

Curious, she reached out to lift the pendant. It was heavy in her hand, cool to touch, and that sense of wrongness pervaded. When she gave an experimental tug, the brittle cord snapped and she stumbled backwards with the pendant in hand.

Somewhat wryly, Lera tucked the pendants into a pocket and looked up at the statue. It looked better now.

She made her way out of the inner chamber, past the tapestries and took a different doorway then the one leading back to the chamber she’d first found herself in. She still hadn’t found anything useful. She was about ready to give up and return to the first chamber when she came around a corner and drew up short at the sight of a man.

He was taller than Lera at least, with skin so dark that the minimal light from the torch made it appear jet black. Yet his features were not African, and his hair fell perfectly straight to his collar. He was also, Lera noted in mild confusion, wearing nothing more than a white line kilt and sandals

“Er hello?” Lera greeted, uneasy. How had the man gotten down here? Was there another way into the temple that she had yet to find?

The dark man regarded Lera curiously, holding himself in utter stillness for a long moment before gracefully holding up one hand.

He spoke, though the words were not any that Lera had heard before.

Jokes Etc[story]the Mistakes Of My Parents Episode 2 by Hedowho(op): 9:05am On Jan 12, 2019
She was heading home from a church service, singing some songs of praises. Rachael was feeling the peace and joy that came with worshiping and praising God at the prayer meeting.

As she was about to turn and connect the small road leading to her sisters flats who she had gone to visit, she noticed a man standing by the side of the path. He was busy talking on phone.

Rachael excused herself as she made an angle to avoid bumping into the man. He stopped her and greeted her. “Am fine thank you” Rachael answered cheerfully. The man extended his hand. “am Joe” he said.

“Rachael” She responded shaking his hand. “Sorry to bother you but my friend directed me to these flats but I can’t seem to locate the exact flat.”

Racheal explained the place Joe had inquired.

The following day she met him again coming from the neighbour’s flat. They greeted each other and that was the begining of their friendship. They exchanged numbers and communicated frequently when she had gone to work as a marketing manager of ZSIC insurance company in Benin.

After some time, Joe insisted she got a transfer back to Asaba where he was managing his father’s company. Their love grew stronger and a year later they were married with a powerful wedding ceremony.

All this time Joe had pretended he had stopped drinking and was a loving and caring man to Rachael. In her heart she was convinced he loved her and would always be there for her.

Six months down their marriage he came back home late and drunk, his attitude towards his wife changed, he would scold her, come back home with his clothes stained either with women powder or lipstick. Each day he turns from bad to worse….

She became pregnant and hoped things might change a little, but he didn’t change not even after knowing his wife was going to give him a son. All he did was to drop some money for Rachael as if that was all she needed.

Back to the present….

Rachael looked at her son who had woken up and his tiny fingers struggled to push the showel covering him. she sighed and wipped a tear droping from her eyes and lifted him up. She put him close and breastfed him. it was now passed 14 hours and her husband had not showed up at the hospital..

At home Joe had received a call earlier from Monica 7 hours ago that morning and he prepared himself ready to go and see her. He loved his wife but for some reason he had fallen in the trap of Jessy like a fly in a spider web. A woman he recently employed in his company. Her beauty and charm had caught his attention, he found it boring being with Racheal eapecially after a night he had spent with Jessy at a hotel were they had a company conference with other business men and women.

The problem with Jessy was that she was too demanding and had succesfully managed to force Joe to neglect his marriage.

That morning as he drove to the hospital He received a call from Jessy who demanded seeing him.

“What is it Jessy?” he had asked her upon reaching at her apartment, the one he had gotten for her.

“I missed you she said lurring him to join her in bed.” Instead of turning her down and head to the hospital to see his wife Joe decided to stay on and spend some time with Jessy.

He looked at his watch, it was 15 hours. “I have to get going” he told Jessy who was still in her small night silk dress.

She poured herself some wine as she folded her legs on the chair by the bar, ” And why is that?” she said looking at Joe.

“Um uh.. I have to see my wife at the hospital. I was told she was in labour and I have to check on her and see how things are going.” He explained, almost begging.

“Oh so am just to be used uh?” Jessy snapped standing up to face him.

“How many times have you promised me your time and commitment.? Now here you are talking about your stupid pregnant wife.” she added angrily.

Joe sat down to reason with her. Telling her how much he loved her and promised to make up time for them, by the time he left her place heading to the hospital it was already 17 hours. He rushed to the ward as directed by the nurse he met up at the reception.

He was told his wife was discharged an hour ago. He panicked and felt a sense of guilt. He wasn’t there to receive his child. Slowly he made his way to the Jaguar car he had packed outside. While driving home, he brought out his mobile phone and dialed Racheal’s line. The phone rang for the fifth time without her picking, as he drove on he hatched the story he would tell his wife as an excuse for not being there when she needed him most. He felt bad he had not lived up to his promises, feeling the urge to change especially for their child..

As he approached his house, he drove right to the gate, the gate man opened the gate immediately. “How are you boss ?” the gate man greeted him.

“I’m fine” he answered not really paying any attention to him..

“where is my wife ?” Joe asked as he locked the car. “Oh boss am sorry but your wife just left, she came back with a taxi 40 minutes ago and entered the house with a baby. She later came out with a big suit case and went out .”

” What!” Joe screamed. “What do you mean she left? How could she just leave without saying anything?”

“And boss”, the gate man added ” there’s more to that”. Joe gazed at him still trying to digest the fact of his wife leaving with bags . ” What?” he snapped.

“Boss she left the baby” he said in a low tone.

Instead of answering him, Joe ran to the house and pushed the door open. In his bedroom he found the baby sleeping peacefully and a note beside him.

Joe,

By the time you read this. I would have gone, I cannot take it any more. I married you and trusted you because I loved you with all my heart, but you have sudenly turned Into a person I cannot cope with and understand. I can’t do this anymore. Am going to start over. but I cannot do it with this child. I leave him in your care. You will take care of him as he deserves and I hope for his sake you will change for the better. I love him very much, but I can’t live with a part of you. I want a complete start over and I hope to find happiness and peace once again.

Good bye.. Rachael..

Joe folded the note. His hands shaking and he was profusely sweating. “Oh my God!Rachael how could you?” He sat down holding his child and cried. “What have I done?” he whispered to himself.

Romance[story]o.g.b.a.n.j.e (the Child Of Thunder) Chapter 9-10 by Hedowho(op): 7:27am On Jan 03, 2019
“So does that mean Ogbanje is unstoppable?” Adaku queried her great grandmother.

“I did not say so Adaku, I only said Ogbanje isn’t someone you would toy so easily. A strange powerful god is with her and have always protected her right from day 1, so Adaku my granddaughter you stand no chance against her”. Said Amumamirri as she stares at her great granddaughter, not in pity though

“So mother, does that mean Ogbanje can not be killed?” Adaku questioned.

“Everyone has his or her own weakness in life, Ogbanje has hers. Have you ever heard of a god whose name has been forgotten with time? A god powerful than any? A god whose presences makes other gods hid?”

“I don’t understand you mama, does it have anything to do with Ogbanje and her weakness?”

“Maybe. Listen, once upon a time, there where three brothers who love and cherish one another . One of the brothers became jealous and planned against the downfall of the first son. A day came and the elder brother committed a sacrilege, by nearly wiping out the entire creatures his father, Olisa (Chukwu) had created. With sorrow embedded gravely in his heart, he went away and was never seen again. He was forgotten alongside with time, and no body, no one ever remembered him again. I believe he is back and he is strongly behind Ogbanje. The first son of Olisa (Chukwu) is the most powerful god amongst his brothers and other gods, but, he has a weakness and it was his weakness his second brother used against him for..”

Interrupting her great grandmother Adaku query almost immediately. “What weakness does this god you just spoke of has?”

“Anger Adaku, anger. His weakness was anger. The second son of Olisa used that against him. So you must find Ogbanje’s weakness so that you can use it against her”. The old woman, Amumamirri, said as she finished explaining to her daughter who had been listening attentively to every of her words.

“Mother you don’t get it, Ogbanje is a girl I had known for many years; in fact all my life. She doesn’t have any weakness as far as I am concern”.

“I understand you Adaku, but the girl you seek to hurt cannot be defeated easily, you have to use her weakness to win over her”.

“But how will I know her weakness mother. There is nothing on earth that can move Ogbanje into showing her weakness, she doesn’t have any weakness mother or any human sympathy. There has to be another way for me to suppress her powers and kill her father”.

“The tears of a little child attracts the vultures to his own feast. I had once told you not to follow the ways of your great grandfather, but you defy me and went ahead to serve his god, Aku. Do you know your precious Aku went to meet god Ikenga to acquire more powers? Follow the god who I serve”.

“If I follow your way mother, will I obtained more powers and strength than Aku?”. Adaku asked.

“Yes. The story which I just spoke about, Olisa Children, do you still remember?”, Adaku nodded her head to signify that she was following her words. “One of Olisa son is Ikenga, serve him and he will make you strong, stronger than Aku himself”.

“But that hasn’t given me the answer I have been seeking for”, Adaku catechize.

“The answer has always been in front of you”.

“I don’t understand you mother, what answer”.

“The answer to Ogbanje weakness is Ebuka. Use Ebuka against her. Turn him against her, only him can get rid of Ogbanje”.

“Ebuka?”

Amumamirri stood up from her sit and motion to Adaku to follow her.

“Come with me, I have to fortify you so that god Ikenga would give you enough strength to face Ogbanje. But Adaku, I will still warn you, whatever happens to you in the future (moves closer to her ears) do not blame me, for I have told you, Ogbanje isn’t someone you can defeat easily. The ears that has refuse to harkens to the voice of wisdom follows the head along when the head is cut off (© Ifeoma Isabella Okeke). I am only helping you Adaku, because you are my great grand daughter”. Amumamirri said as they both disappeared.

Adaku Back from her Travel:

Thunder and Lightening followed one after the other above the sky that early hot afternoon when Adaku came back to the village from her strange travel. She walked with pride, the air filled with her arrogance as she walked by. Her head held high like a peacock as reaches Okeke’s massive hut.

Uzochi and Ugochi ran out of the hut to meet their mother.

They both hug her.

“Mama welcome”, Uzochi was the first to speak.

“Mama, we have missed your presence a lot”. Ugochi said elated on seeing her mother.

“Where is your sister, Ogbanje?” Adaku asked as she uses her eyes to roam around searching for Ogbanje.

“We don’t know, she left since morning”. Uzochi answered

“Or maybe she went to Ebuka’s house you know those two are inseparable”.

Ugochi took her mother’s things from her and together they went inside.

Ogbanje and Ebuka Along The Village Stream:

Ogbanje and Ebuka were on their way to the village stream to fetch some water when Ogbanje stopped all of a suddenly and turn her neck to look directly at Ebuka.

“Ebuka, take this Ahịa- necklace”, Ogbanje said as she produce the necklace beneath her waist beads.

“What for Ada. I mean it’s beautiful but why are you giving it to me and not your sisters?” Ebuka asked collecting the Ahịa necklace from Ogbanje out stretch hand.

“I don’t know Ebuka, but that voice spoke to me yesterday and told me I should protect you at all cost so I made this Ahịa-necklace for you. It will be a protection to you against any evil forces if I am not there with you”. Ogbanje answered as Ebuka place the necklace around his neck.

“On no account should you remove it no matter what. Even if later on I told you to remove it, do not do so. This necklace should always be with you at all times”.

“Ada, I will as you have instructed me to do. I don’t really get what you are saying but I will never remove this necklace from my neck”.

“Good, very good Ebuka. Let us continue our walk to the village stream”. Ogbanje said in a happy mood. “Tell you what, let’s race ourselves to the stream. The winner gets to do whatever he or she wants to do to the loser”.

And they ran together towards the village stream.

Witches meeting:

“I am no longer interested staying in this coven”. Adaku began slowly as her fellow witches listen attentively to her. “I am no longer a member of this coven”.

“You dare not Adaku. We all here are one sisters, you will not come and mess this up for us”.

“I now have powers to eliminate Ogbanje, that which Aku, the weak god we serve, had failed to do since I made my request known”. Adaku told Eze Nwayi in jeer.

“I see you have made up your mind Adaku. I will not stop you but know this, your end is near”.

***

Realm of the gods:

“Why did you give the young evil woman some powers to destroy the girl you have your eyes for?” Achuguayo, a smaller god asked Ikenga in his abode. Achuguayo was the god of the Moon, he was among the other gods Olisa (Chukwu) had created from the beginning.

“I know what I am doing Achuguayo. I want to know the god that has been protecting her. Something in me tells me that my going to get her as my wife would prove abortive if the god protecting her is strong”. Ikenga replied Achuguayo.

“But why the woman, she might get herself killed in the process”. Achuguayo said as his thoughtful eyes follows Ikenga about.

“She was warned severely but she wouldn’t listen. If she lost her life it is no business of mine. I want to see the powers that follows Ogbanje. I want to know which of the gods is behind this. I want to know the hidden god that was able to occlude my powers from Aku”.

Achuguayo nodded his head seeing meaning to Ikenga’s choice of words.

“So if this girl, Ogbanje, defeat Adaku what would you do?” Achuguayo asked carefully.

“I will know I have a tough battle ahead of me and start to prepare myself. To get the girl and make her my wife, I will have to go through this strange god to get her”. Ikenga answered almost immediately.

*********

“The girl you wish to have came from the Ogbanje world. She is a princess from that world who had came to dwell in the mortal world permanently. You can’t have her”. Agbara Nwayi told Obinwanne.

“Okay, so are you saying there is nothing your goddess, Idemmili, can do to make Ogbanje fell in love with me”.

“Idemmili said you should let go of that girl, she belongs to someone else. If you wish for death, then go after her. If you wish to live, stay clear from her (look at Obinwanne directly into his eyes) these were the words of Idemmili”.

“To hell with her, I only came here for a very powerful charm I would use to win over her and you are here telling me something else”.

“Do not provoke me child. Idemmili do not want to pour her wrath on you, now leave here quick”.

“I will go Agbara Nwayi, but be rest assured to tell Idemmili that Ogbanje will soon be mine”. Obinwanne said in abhorrent towards Agbara Nwayi.

“The rooster that refuses to listen to the warning bell finds his way into the boiling water prepared for his funeral(© Ifeoma Isabella Okeke)”.

Obinwanne left Agbara Nwayi’s shrine, determine to get Ogbanje at all cost.

**********

Ebuka smiled to himself. He was laying on his bamboo bed, preparing to sleep when he started smiling all of a sudden.

They will never know the truth yet. He would still be pretending until the truth gets out. Ogbanje had listened to the voice.

He once again touched the necklace around his neck. No one would dare hurt him, with or without the necklace.

The time is drawing near when he would soon reveal who he really was to Ogbanje.

No one one was aware he was actually Amadioha in disguise.

Literature[story]o.g.b.a.n.j.e (the Child Of Thunder) Chapter 1 by Hedowho(op): 1:57am On Dec 23, 2018
It was a long time ago before white men find their way into Africa. In the small village of Udum, amongst the igbos, legends, myths abounded. Amadioha son of Olisa was greatly served by Udum.

It was said that Olisa otherwise been known as Chukwu has three children
Njoku ji, Is the guardian deity of the yam for Udum people. He made their yams to be healthy that a day was made for Njoku ji to celebrate him.

Ikenga, a deity too proud for his name was always given a benefiting sacrifice. Every full moon a maiden must be sacrificed to appease Ikenga. It has always been their tradition.

The first son of Olisa, Amadioha was the strongest of them. He is represented with a white ram and his color is red. His day is afor, which is the third market day. He is considered as the gentle deity among his brothers and also the cruelest amongst them.

Ikenga has always be jealous of Amadioha and had always wished he has the powers Amadioha possesses. He went as far as his jealous would carry him to meet his father’s enemy, Ekwensu.

Together they all planned to bring the downfall of Amadioha.

One day, Amadioha didn’t know what came over him and he struck the village of Udum with thunder and lightening, if not for the intervention of his father, Olisa, the people of Udum would have been wiped out of the surface of the earth.

Doing such a thing to Udum village, the people swore never to engage anything that has to do with Amadioha.

Amadioha was soon forgotten, he became a myth that tells the story of how he nearly destroyed Udum.

In Udum village live a young couple that has been newly married.

“Chi, I hope my meal is ready because I am heavily famished”, Chi husband, Okoro said as he dropped his farm tools and said down near his sulking wife. He saw the look on her face and proceeded to asked “Chidinmma, kedu ihe ọ bụ ọzọ-what is it again?”

Okoro was a well to do farmer, he was one of the respectable people in the village, he has three barns of yam at his disposal amongst other things. In fact he was seen as one of the richest men in Udum village.

LiteratureHow Did It Get This Worse?? by Hedowho(op): 2:02pm On Dec 08, 2018
Its a pity what the days are turning into.
Permit me to say the heart of men are now WICKEDEST than ever.
It has crawled into majority of our youths and leaving the suppose future of tomorrow at stake.
Many already regretting being born into this generation.
Majority of these youths nowadays can do anything for money.
How did it get this worse??
We dont know who to trust anymore. But i will say trust nobody! Don’t think you know that boy u call the love of your life if he lacks the fear of God. Even with the fear of God, becareful of Hippocrates in the Christian realm. Fake everywhere.!!!
The rate boys are sacrificing fellow humans for money is alarming.!
Sacrificing mostly from the female folks these days has gone to an eliciting level beyond what we ever imagined.
Babes are decreasing, Benz are increasing.
How did things get this worse??
Hold on, all for the love of material things? Things we all will die one day and won’t even remember how wealthy or poor we were on earth?
When they said we can only live once,
when they said we should live the best of our lives,
When they said be the best we could,
When they said dream big and achieve them.
Hear me, the above was not about killing our fellow humans to achieve such heights.
Majority of our youths now take lives without remorse nor blinking.
Being real was never about proclaiming love to a girl in pretence and with plan to use her for rituals.
It was not about using those that matters to you for money rituals or as a means for self actualization and life comfort.
How did it get this worse??
Many now using guns instead of words as last words.
The fear to take away a life you don’t own means nothing to majority nowadays.
We have gotten to an era where the youths steal pants?
Pants?
How did it get this worse?
Naija now ranked 3rd in terrorism in the whole world.
Who gave birth to these evil?
Why has many become an instrument born to someday take away someone’s life, dreams and truncate a fellow human’s destiny?
How did it get this worse?
You took someone’s life and call it hustle?? Hold on, are you the only one that has issues?
Are you the only one that want the good things of life??
Are you the only one facing the hardship that came with life??
When last did you visit the hospital to see those battling for life and praying for just one more day?
Being contented has become a major issue with majority of these youths. No one want to cut their coat according to their size.
We all want to be OBO & other top celebrities over night and at all cost. Why are you under pressure?? Pressure of social media and the urge to impress.

Jokes EtcMust Read:the POOR HERO by Hedowho(op): 10:46am On Dec 06, 2018
Amaka was the prettiest girl in my class while in primary two.
She was loved by everyone including teachers and students alike. Everyone wanted to be her friend and I wasn’t an exception. I used to pray for the day she would borrow sharpener from me so that I could have the opportunity to talk to her but she never borrowed anything from me because she had lots of whatever she wanted.

One day, the names of noisemakers was written by the assistant class monitor who was a girl and didn’t like Amaka like the rest of us, so she wrote Amaka’s name.
My name was in it too.

When it was time for us to be flogged, the teacher said he was giving us three strokes each. Even though I had a phobia for ‘koboko’, I decided to do ‘odeshi’ for my three strokes because I didn’t want Amaka to see me cry. After my three lashes, I went to my seat. It was from there I saw my pretty Amaka shivering out out fear. She was already crying even though it wasn’t her turn to be flogged. My heart melted for her.
Finally, her turn came.

As the teacher was about to cane her, I stood up from my seat and shouted, ‘Uncle I will collect the cane for her!’

The whole class became quiet. Everyone’s mouth was opened. The teacher turned to me and asked, “what did you say?”
I replied again, “I want to collect the cane for her”.

Jokes EtcMust Read: How I Got Sacked Episode 1 To 3 by Hedowho(op): 10:33am On Dec 06, 2018
EPISODE 1

Hello reader, My name is Darlington Osas. Am writing this short story about how I got sacked from my first job after secondary school.
I woke up like every other Saturday, the streets was busy already, people were walking around, some dressed for parties, some to their weekend jobs and others gossiping in front of their house. The day was bright and warm, a perfect day for parties. The major topic amongst the male gossips were about the football matches about to be played on that weekend. Am not so much of a football fan so, I don’t follow up with any league or football competition being played. I only watch it once in a while when I am chanced and I don’t have any favorite.

I hurriedly did my house chores and left for the shop. I lived with my mother, father and two elder sisters in a two room apartment rented by my father. My father worked as a builder and my mother sells vegetables in a small she constructed in front of the house. I just finished my secondary school. And that means that, I have written my WAEC but I was yet to see my results.
I didn’t want to be idle while I waited for my results so I looked for a job and luckily for me, I got a sales boy job a shop located 4 streets away from my house. The shop belonged to a Yoruba woman who sold assorted fruit juice in wholesale and retail.
I opened the shop after greeting other neighbors who had opened for the day. I checked my time and it was quatre past nine. “A bit late i said to myself”. All of the four didn’t have any sales boy or sales girl so there was really no friend of mine amongst the shop owners. I quickly did all the necessary things I was supposed to do after opening the door which included sweeping the floor, cleaning accumulated dust on the wares, mopping the floor and then arranging some of the wares for exhibition. I wasn’t expecting my madam to come to the shop that day as she had reported that she would be travelling on that very day on the previous. So I just sat down waiting for customers. Abi? What is left? tongue
