I am not making excuses for her. When you know you don't know, and admit you don't know while making conscious efforts towards knowing and learning, that is clearly a positive step towards being educated and that is what Nina is doing. Going to school is not the only way to reduce ignorance and be educated, hence knowing or hearing about global warming has little or nothing to do with school education. A linguistic student who is always surrounded by people with limited knowledge could probably finish school without hearing about global warming - she hasn't done anything wrong. Nina's problem stems from her immediate environment, she hasn't been opportune like most people to be around educated and knowledgeable people- that she has admitted. Cut her some slack!
