This kind of statement coming from someone in Sheikh Jingir's position is not just disappointing — it’s dangerous. We’re talking about a country that has seen enough bloodshed from ethnic and religious conflict. For a cleric to openly say "the Fulani will never forgive the Igbo" for a political coup that happened nearly 60 years ago is nothing short of incitement. Let’s be clear: Ahmadu Bello’s death was part of a historical military coup, not an ethnic conspiracy. Holding an entire ethnic group responsible for something done by a few individuals in uniform decades ago is completely unfair and fuels division. And to be angry simply because Peter Obi wore Hausa attire? That’s the kind of symbolic unity Nigeria needs more of, not less. Obi dressing in Hausa clothing while visiting Muslim scholars should be seen as a gesture of respect, not a provocation. Sheikh Jingir's comments are reckless and go against the values of peace, unity, and forgiveness that religious leaders are supposed to stand for. If Nigeria is to move forward, we need to stop preaching hate over history. |
