TravelRe: General Austria Study/visa( Process And Requirements) by HenryCarto: 12:36pm On Oct 30, 2021
CrysWhite:
Thanks for this

I didn’t authenticate a copy of my passport at the ministry of foreign affairs can I use it like that??
As i can remember i didn’t really do anything that requires a copy of the passport, not until Residence permit application where your ePassport will be collected by them and make photocopy of the data page then return it back to you. You will submit the epassport with the photocopy too, the dude there did the photocopy by himself during the visa D process too. Hope this helps!

Austria For Studies (MSC)
Please note you ll allow
2 - 4 Months : Documents Verification (per submission)
3 - 6 Months : Admission Processing (start application early)
8 - 12 Weeks : Residence Permit Process
3 - 7 days : Visa D process

Notarization of Docs federal ministry of Education Abuja
List of documents i Notarized at FME
- Primary School Testimonial
- Bachelor Degree
- Academics Transcript of studies (Originally signed Copy, NOT a student copy)
- School leaving Certificate (NECO)
(Buy recharge O’level result checker card and photocopy all the docs in 3 places each, you ll pay 300 naira per page including the photocopied pages)

You’ll apply for Eligibility letter and collect after 2 working days (Price is 500naira) ( Some schools don’t request for this while this is mandatory for some schools)

Notarization of Docs federal ministry of Foreign affairs Abuja
List of documents i Notarized at FMFA
- Bachelor Degree
- Transcript of studies (Originally signed Copy)
- School leaving Certificate (NECO)
- Primary School Testimonial
- Copy of passport
- Eligibility Letter
- Affidavit of birth by NPC with Court affidavit
- Marriage Certificate (Affidavit of bachelorhood if you are single)
- Affidavit of consent from my wife
- State of Origin Certificate
(Photocopy 3 pages of each except the docs you already did at FME, 300 for each page including photocopies too) i used an agent, he charged 14k for everything, and i collected almost immediately.

Submission of docs for Verification
(Please note that the verification is done by Austrian lawyers) They will visit all the places you collected your docs and meet with every signatory on all the document. (You need to book an appointment with the embassy, do this real quick cause they usually give 1-2months ahead)

List of documents i submitted in Original and Notarized photocopies from FME & FMFA
- Bachelor Degree
- Transcript of studies (Originally signed Copy)
- School leaving Certificate (NECO)
- Primary School Testimonial
- Copy of passport
- Eligibility Letter
- Affidavit of birth by NPC with Court affidavit
- Marriage Certificate (Affidavit of bachelorhood if you are single)
- Affidavit of consent from my wife
- State of Origin Certificate
- Completed Questionnaire
(200k Cash at the counter as at the time 2020)

Collection and Legalization
The Embassy will contact you by email or phone when the verification process is done (mine took 8-9months due to strike and there was a date of birth contradiction on my academic transcript so i paid another 200k to verify the new affidavit that sufficed for that since Its an extra document and the it Embassy sees that as a new verification, mine took longer cause the court went on strike at that time)

So when they contact you after a successful verification process, you ll need to legalize each of this document (80€ per document as at 2021) you ll need to pay this in cash using the current embassy exchange rate. They ll ask you how many documents you’d want to legalize, be mindful of those officers at the embassy counter they will want to make you legalize every documents, but what you definitely need is Birth cert and police character cert. any extra legalized documents will probably be needed by the school or if you have any other plans in Austria.

Sending Legalized docs to applied schools for admission
You should have been in contact with your university choice, for me i wrote Admission Assessment, had an Interview with the head of program and passed, started a virtual pre semester warm up class on the program (NB: i started my application very early)
Before the school will send an unconditional admission letter to you, you will need to send your legalized documents to the university, So its always legalization of documents before admission unless the Uni accepts electronic application (which was in my case due to Covid19).

Acceptance letter and payment of fees
Self explanatory i don’t even need to tell you about this, when you re been offered admission to a university you ll need to pay your fees or at-least a deposit as stated by the University. Then move over to the embassy with your originally printed acceptance letter sent from the University, and apply for your residence permit. When i was offered admission i paid a tuition deposit, then just before the start of the semester i was asked to pay balance.

Application of residence permit
Apply for your Residence permit, that will enable you stay in Austria for 1year (renewable after every year) this is done by appointment too (They gave me 1month ahead, you might be lucky to get a close date due to appointment cancelation by some people)

List of Docs for Residence Permit
- Legalized Birth Certificate
- Original Acceptance letter from an Austrian University
- Legalized police Character certificate
- Travel insurance (A type of health insurance make sure it will cover for the time of your residency process and entrance till you are able to get an Austrian insurance; so buying a 6months insurance is advisable from AXA Mansard)
- Proof of accommodation (you should have booked for a place to stay in Austria Dorm or apartment, transfer a deposit and get a 1or 2yrs signed contract from them.)
- Passport page
- 3months Originally printed Bank statement having 6-7Million (depending equi. 15,000€) If you are sponsoring yourself, you ll need to explain the source too i guess. Because of money laundering they always require you to attach a statement from your sponsor or support explaining the source of the money or any other evidence to cover for the explanation. If you don’t send this, they will at the long run request for it just like they did to me after waiting for about 2months and 2weeks they requested for the document, after i provided them they approved my Permit within 10 business days (yours might be longer, na just God)
- (Application fee of 120 € Cash in Naira converted to the current exchange rate + finger print charge 20€)

You will attend an interview the day you submit this Residence application, so be prepared. I can't really tell you the questions cause it might come different for everyone. But read about Austria (States, Culture, Location in world Map) and fees you ll pay (Basic calculations) and concrete answer source of funding. They will try to intimidate you during the interview, dnt give in to that maintain your ground. And learn a little basic german or show you re eager/open to learn. Some said they asked them exam questions’ just maybe the man that interviewed was scared of my Discipline, he didn’t know what to ask from there. We didn’t even talk about what, how and why i chose what i want to study. But be ready for the usual question ‘Why You want to go to Austria?? And Austria location on an empty map.

Application of Visa type D
When the residence permit is approved, the Austrian immigration where your application was sent to (this will depend on the city you are going to and if its vienna it will depend on the accomodation district you submitted) will send an approval mail, then tell you to wait for the embassy to wait for the embassy in your country to inform you formally, the embassy in Abuja took about 2-3 days to reach out to me via email and Since i will need a visa to enter Austria to pick up my permit.
So you will need a Visa Type D to enter Austria, it takes only few (3-5)days to be ready. You can go ahead and apply, this stage is where you will submit your epassport for Shenghen visa valid only for 4 months.
- (Application fee of 150€ Cash in Naira converted to the current exchange rate)

You are expected to enter Austria and collect your residence permit before the expiration of this 4months, you ll be required to book an appointment with the immigration office in Austria immediately you arrive and you ll be resubmitting all the documents and this time you ll need to transfer the money to your personal new Austrian Bank account and submit the bank statement to them with other numerous registrations and documents’. Austria and process are like 5&6 so be fvcking ready!

List of Docs for Visa
- The embassy abuja will let you know in the email they will send you, but its basically ePassport, Two passport photos, flight reservation, Valid Health and travel insurance (this is why i said you need to buy 6months ahead or else u want to buy this twice) and when i bought it i applied for RP around July the insurance started around September, the earliest time i know i might travel.. dnt make it start when you know you can’t even travel so it can still be valid even if anything delays.
N/B: You will still need to do other registrations when you enter AUSTRIA to enable you get your permit (looks like an Atm card). This will enable you get a work permit and co, so if you intend to start working you don’t need to waste time completing this process, because you ll need an appointment and process before picking this card up might take off your 1month time. If you enter Austria you should know what to do, cause by then you suppose make friends and have colleagues who will be giving you first hand info. Try to connect with people, especially people ahead of you.. the more info you get the less stressful. Some people might be forming busy to answer you, baba/babe dey ask them questions until you get then you fit put them on the side.

bucky123:
I applied to only one school and fortunately, I was admitted.
I don't know much about sending multiple applications but I think that can be achieved on Soknadsweb.

I'll be applying for an MSc programme by October, still yet to choose from the schools though. I'm planning on sending multiple application (maybe 2) to different schools. Please successful people who applied for the past one should take the lead. We need updates and encouragement. Thanks!
