Lukgaf: Lately, news of CBEX crashing and the heartbreak it left behind has shaken many Nigerians: our brothers and sisters who invested their hard-earned money with the hope of financial upliftment, only to watch it vanish. May Allah ease your pain and replace your loss with something better. Ameen.
But this is also a wake-up call. Islam teaches us to be cautious, responsible, and honest in our dealings. Sadly, many of these schemes, including CBEX and similar “investment platforms,” fall under what is clearly impermissible in Islam.
Why Ponzi Schemes Are Haram in Islam A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment system where early investors are paid profits from new investors’ money, not from real business activity. It thrives on deception, gambling, and unsustainable promises.
Islamic principles strongly condemn such dealings because they violate the core values of fairness, transparency, and mutual benefit. Allah warns us clearly in the Qur’an:
“O you who believe! Intoxicants, gambling, sacrificing to stone alters, and divining arrows are abominations of Satan’s handiwork. So avoid them that you may be successful.” (Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:90)
In fact, when someone invests in these schemes with the hope that others will join and their money will multiply, it becomes a form of gharar (excessive uncertainty) and maysir (gambling)—both of which are clearly prohibited.
If a person puts in ₦10,000 in hopes of getting ₦30,000, without knowing how the money is truly being used, it becomes a gamble, not a business. They may profit or they may lose everything. This risk isn't calculated, productive investment it's just rolling the dice with one’s sustenance.
WHAT MUSLIM SHOULD DO INSTEAD?
Let this be a reminder for us all:
Avoid the "quick money syndrome"—it often leads to regret.
Invest only in halal, ethical business opportunities where your risk, effort, and returns are clear and justifiable.
Trust in slow, consistent effort, and remember that true barakah comes from Allah, not from hype.
To those who have lost their money in CBEX or similar platforms, know this: Allah sees your pain and your loss is a test, not a punishment. Reflect, repent if needed, and move forward. May Allah replace your loss with something more lasting and pure.
Let us all learn and encourage one another to seek halal means of sustenance.
May Allah protect us from the traps of Shaytaan, and grant us contentment, barakah, and halal wealth. Ameen.

Glimpsetv: In a trending video, a Nigerian banker has opened up about his frustrations with working in the banking sector.
The man revealed that he has been employed in a commercial bank for 16 years, yet has nothing tangible to show for all his years of service.
Expressing his disappointment, he said: “I’m not too happy because it feels like I’ve been used for the past 16 years. I’ve been doing my work diligently — look at the time I’m leaving for work now, as usual. It’s as if I’ve been used all these years and there's nothing to show for it.”
He went on to advise parents whose children may be considering a career in commercial banking to think carefully, stressing that working in Nigerian commercial banks is not for the faint-hearted, especially for junior staff. “They will suck you like an orange — suck you dry and then throw you away,” he lamented.
While acknowledging that some people are thriving in the commercial banking sector, he claimed that such individuals often have powerful connections. “It’s those who know the right people that are making it big,” he added.
In an attempt to console himself, he expressed hope for a better future. “But I know that as today marks my sixteenth year in the bank, God will show me favor — I’m confident of that,” he declared.
He concluded by saying that if anyone could help him secure a new job, he would gladly leave the banking industry, emphasizing that he’s not ready to die working in a commercial bank.
In a very funny twist, while trying to round off his speech, something amusing happened. Being the early hours of the morning, as he walked along the road, chickens nearby began making their usual morning noises, interrupting his recording. In a hilarious moment, he commanded the chickens to stop making noise, speaking in Yoruba dialect.
His lamentation has since drawn mixed reactions across various social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X (formerly known as Twitter).
