CHAPTER 11

My story is for everyone. You can make a change too no matter how small. I did it,you can do it

too. A superhero is not necessarily someone with some supercool powers. You are a superhero to

that little child you gave money for food,because of you,he will live to see another day.

I hung my earpiece in my ears as i walked alongside others to bury Snake. Big Sean's one man can

change the world blasted softly from the earpiece. I watched as his body was lowered into the dug

hole. The scenario gave me the chance to reminisce over past events. Big Sean was right,one man

can change the world. I can change the world. After the ceremony,i went to sit by myself. Collins

came to sit by me.

"what are you thinking about?"he asked.

"everything"

"i dont know what everything is but everything will be fine"

"i hope so"i said and paused. "you did not tell his ex-wife and son yet?"

"yes. it is better they dont know now"

"what do we do now?"

"Chioma told me you had a senator contact. We can start from there"

"okay"

"how do we contact him?"

"we pay him a visit"

The next day,i and Chioma went to visit the senator. Collins could not follow us,he was still

undercover working for the cabals,being seen with us could blow his cover. We arrived the

sentor's house but denied access.

"tell your boss the sahara reporters would still be very much interested in that video"i said

fearlessly to the scary security detail at the door who relunctantly relayed my message. The

speed at which he asked us to enter and escorted us in showed the message was well delivered.

"who are these ones?"the senator asked reacting to a different face from Kunle's.

"relax,i am an associate of his"i said sensing his fear.

"where is he?"

"busy. He sends his best regards"

"how do i know you are truly from him?"

"will this convince you?"i said playing the record Kunle uses in blackmailing him.

"okay,what do you want?"

"we need weapons.about 300 of them"

"are you crazy?!!! where do you want me to get that number of weapons"

"I dont know. you are corrupt,you will figure something out"

"please,i am begging you. That number of weapon can not be transported unnoticed. They will kill

me"

"And if i upload this video,they will kill you anyways to cover thier tracks. The choice is

yours"

"okay!"he finally said after a moment of silence. "you will get it next week"

"no! we want it this week"

"what?!!!"

"it is this week or nothing"

"okay!"he said again after another round of silence.

"here"i handed him a paper. "call us when it is ready"

"and how is the president's health?"Chioma asked.

"what about his health?"the senator asked cluelessly. Chioma and i looked at each other. He did

not know about the president being ill.

"is something wrong with the president?"the senator asked confused.

"You dont know,do you?"i asked."looks like they keep secrets from you too"

"if there is anything wrong with the president,tell me now!!!"

"ask them"

We left the senator's place after fixing a day he would deliver the weapons to us. All we had to

do now was wait. The days went by fast and the senator had contacted us,the weapons were ready.

We set out to the secret location he gave us. Collins followed us this time with a few men he

could trust. The environment was dark and cold,we waited a few minutes before the senator showed

up visibly scared of something. He walked over to us slowly muttering the words.

"i am sorry,please forgive"

what could be wrong? As he stepped closer,a figure started showing up behind and as the figure

became clearer,it appeared to be holding a gun behind the senator's back. The figure finally

became clear and it was Alien!

"Well!Well!!well!!!"Alien said. "we meet again"

"A-a-a-a-lien"i stammered. "i thought you were...."

"dead?"he said and laughed. "well your friends here did a good job shooting me but when you work

for powerful people,you have access to the best doctors and care"

"what do you want?!!!"i screamed tearing up. "why cant you just leave me alone!!!"

"i like you Toyin and i always get what i like and you will not be an exception even if i have to

kill everyone to get you!!!"

"you will have to kill me first boy"Collins stepped in front of me shielding me from Alien.

"hahaha"Aien laughed."another loverboy protecting you,i see?. I had a swell time killing the

first one. I am sure yours will not be an exception"

"you talk too much"Collins said and shot at Alien who used the senator as a guide. Alien

retaliated the shot by a counter shot at Collins who jumped behind a car for protection. Before

long,exchange of shots occured between our camp and Alien's camp. They were more prepared and

combat ready than we were. We were at a disadvantage,men from our side kept reducing. This was

the death of Snake at the warehouse playing all over again. But it seems the universe support

good deeds and when all hope gets lost,the universe sends help. This was the case that night.

Collins and I with a few other men were hiding and holding Alien's men off. We were down to our

last rounds of bullets. This was it,death!!! More lifes about to go for the struggle untill we

heard exchanges of bullets. They were between strange men who wore blacks and Alien's men. They

were harmed to the teeth and skillful. In no time,they had overpowered Alien and his men. Alien

who would allow himself be captured jumped in a car and drove off amidst rain of bullets on the

car as he drove off. We relunctantly came out from hiding because we did not know who this men

were. One of them approached us and lifted his mask.

"sir!!!" Collins shouted standing straight and saluting the man.

"at ease soldier!" he said.

"what is going on here?"i asked.

"this is Snake's commmander" Collins whispered to me."Do not worry sir,i will bring in this idiot

later on" Collins said to him and grabbed me by the arms. Wait! am i the idiot he is referring

to?

"relax soldier!no need pretending,i am one of the good ones now"the commander said and

paused."John got to me,he made me see reasons why i should be on the good side and not the bad

one"he said and paused again. "where is he by the way?"

"you dont know?"i asked.

"know what?"

"Snake is dead"i said trying to hold back tears.

"what?!"he expressed shock. "john was one of the good ones,he does not deserve to die"

"you are right sir! he was one of the good ones.And that is why we must make sure his death will

not be in vain"

"i understand"the commander replied looking dejected.

"if i may ask sir,how did you know we were here?"

"like you,i still work for the cabals undercover. I heard of a strike mission tonight to kill or

capture the enemies of the movement. I knew the cabals had only few enemies giving them headache

and you guys are one of them especially you,Toyin"

"me?!"i asked surprised.

"yes! words about you have travelled wide"

"she is a strong mother"Collins said.

"mother?"

"she is pregnant"

"really?! well,congratulatons. I hope you give birth to a strong and brave child as you"

"thank you"i said smiling.

"actually,the main reason i am here today apart from saving your lives is to tell you i know

where the governor's daughter is"

"reaally?"i exclaimed with joy.

"yes! but we must hurry. They change her location every week"

"what are we still waiting for? let's go get her"

"calm down tiger! i think you should sit this one out.You have been through alot today and your

condition"

"my condition? what about my condition"i asked getting angry.

"calm down Toyin!"Collins calmed me. "i think he is right,it is too dangerous. just follow the

men back to the safehouse,we will be back soon with the governor's daughter"

I agreed reluctantly and went back to the safehouse to wait for their return. While waiting for

them,i took the time out to talk with Kunle. His wounds although healing up still broke my heart.

The once vibrant and smart Kunle now laid motionless before me.

"Kunle!"I started. "although we were not able to get the weapons and the senator is dead,i

promise you i will do everything in my power to finish the struggle. I will not stop fighting

untill we win,untill this country is safe for us and our baby"i said placing his hands on my

stomach.The gates to the safehouse opened.I rushed out and saw a victorious Collins walking in

with governor's daughter in his arms alongside other men. I was overfilled with joy. I rushed

over and collected the little girl from his arms.

"Totin"the little girl made an attempt to call my name. She still remembered me. "Totin" she said

again and laughed.I couldn't help but laugh too. After hours of playing with the girl,she finally

fell asleep. The next day,we would take her back to the governor. I went back to Kunle and told

him the good news. After another round of me speaking to his motionless body,i slept off beside

him.

I woke tommorrow to a rather sorrowful atmosphere which was not i expected after yesterday.

"what is wrong?"i asked one of the men i met.

"the newspaper"he said handing the newspaper of the day to me. On it was boldly written "NIGERIA

MOURNS AS SHE LOSES HER PRESIDENT"

"what?!!! the president is dead?"i asked and rushed downstairs not waiting for an answer.

"i see you already know"Collins said noticing the paper in my hand. The room had Collins,the

commander and a few other men in it.

"what happened?"i asked.

"we don't know for sure yet but we think he was murdered"

"the cabals?"

"we think so. We also think they are accelerating their plans. Whatever they want to achieve,we

think it is here already"

"why do you say so?"

"This morning,troops were deployed to every state in the country. Everywhere sealed off"the

commander said.

"and with the president dead,the vice immediately has to take over"Collins chipped in. "and we

think the vice is one of the cabals"

"they are now in total control of the country and will kickstart their plan soonest and they want

to make sure nobody protests it hence the deployment of troops"

"what do we do?"i asked worriedly.

"we don't know"the commander answered.

"Collins"i looked to him looking for a different answer.

"we don't know"he repeated the exact words of the commander.

NO!NO!!NO!!! this can not be the end,there has to be a way. I don't know the way yet but i made a

promise to Kunle and i am not going to break it. Snake's death is not going to be in a vain. I
will find a way. Afterall,one man(woman) can change the world.

CHAPTER TEN


It is hard losing loved ones. It is even harder when you are the cause of their deaths.I can feel your anger as you read. Trust me,I am more angry at myself than you are.Please,forgive me. My name remains Toyin,please don't judge me yet.

Alien took me to a house in an unknown location. I was still shaken up from the previous happenings. Kunle was gone,my Kunle!!! I did not even have a chance to tell him how much i loved him. The only romantic encounter we had was on a cold night. We had sex that night and the next day,we concluded it was just a mistake and we should never speak of that night ever again. What of Snake? Oh dear Snake,he had a son!My foolishness has separated a father from his son. I could not hold the tears in any longer. I broke down and cried till i fell asleep. Alien came by room in the morning to serve me breakfast. I kicked the tray containing the food away.

"Toyin"he sighed. "you have to eat something"

"i would rather die than eat your food.You monster!!!"

"monster? I am doing all this for you"he stopped as if waiting for my approval."for us,our future together is guaranteed this way"

"we dont have a future togther! You are murderer!!!"

"you will understand soon.Then you will see how much i truly love you"

"Go to he..." i stopped feeling the sudden urge to vommit. I rushed into the bathroom where i vommited. When i came out,Alien was waiting by the door.

"are you okay?"he asked immediately as i stepped out.

"it is none of your business"i said pushing him out of the way.

"Toyin,let me help you"

"if you really want to help,kill yourself so i do not have see your face again"

"fine,you do not want my help but i will be sending a doctor over either you want it or not!!"

The doctor came by later for some check-up. From the look on his face,everything was fine but he could not tell me anything because he recieved orders from Alien not to. After series of tests,he finally left my room to have a word with Alien outside. I tiptoed after him because i was curious about what was wrong with me.

"How is she?"Alien asked the doctor.

"She is fine. Congratulations sir"

"congratulations? for what?"

"she is pregnant. Although,i still need the results of the tests to be sure but from what i am seeing,she is pregnant"

I gasped from where i hid,behind the wall. pregnant?!! this must be for Kunle. I am carrying Kunle's child.

"how sure are you doctor?"

"80 percent"

"Bleep!!!"Alien punched the wall.

"any problem sir?"

"no!no!!thanks for your time.Have the results sent to me as soon as they are out"

"ok sir" the doctor said as he walked away

"and doctor" Alien called him back. "let us keep this between ourselves"

After the doctor left,Alien called one of his men.

"i want you to get me abortion pills"

"liquid or solid?"

"liquid"

i tiptoed hastily back into my room. My heart was raising fast,i was feeling restless. I was pregnant and Alien,that bastard!!! was trying to abort it without i knowing about it.what can i do? should i escape? the house was heavily guarded,escaping was going to be hard but not impossible. I made up my mind,i was going to escape that night.

Night came by quick. By then,Alien's man was already back with the drug. All Alien had to do was give them to me. He came to my room that night with a cup of tea.

"that must be it"i thought.

"the doctor said you needed lots of rest and beverages. I can not give you rest,that is your choice but i can give you beverages. So,drink up!"he said.

"thank you"i said as i raised the glass up in an attempt to drink."could you please help close the window"

"sure"he said as he walked over to the window. With his back facing,i quickly emptied some tea into a flower vase beside me. He turned around to meet the glass half full.

"i think i have had enough tea for the day"i said placing the glass down.

"no problem. i will leave you to rest now" he said and left shutting and locking the door behind him. The usual practice every night to prevent me from escaping but that was not going to stop me tonight. I am getting out of here! for kunle,Snake,Niger and my unborn child.

After waiting for the night to become darker,noise of guards surrounding the house reduced. My time has come. I had stolen a spare key from one of the guards who came in my room earlier that day. I unlocked the door. Luckily for me,no guards was outside watching over the door. Everything was going as planned until one of the watchdogs awakened and started barking at me. Guards soon converged at that point taking me back hostage.

"what is going on?"Alien asked as he stepped out.

"bossman,she was trying to escape"one of the guards said.

"ok!i will handle it"he said and dragged me back into my room. "escape? what were you thinking? you could just escape like that.where would you even go?"

"anywhere is better than staying with a monster"

"you should even be asleep now"he said and paused as if realising something. "you did not take the tea"he said while i remained silent. "you know"

"yes" i said finally finding my voice. "you are not going to harm my baby"

"you do not have a choice"

"what?"

"i said you do not have a choice!!!"he shouted and dragged me out of my room into a car. He drove off recklessly to a location unknown yet. we stopped in front of a hospital. It belonged to the doctor from earlier.

"sir,what are you doing here this late at night"

"i want you to abort her pregnancy and remove her womb"

"but sir...."

"but what?"Alien pointed a gun at the doctor.

"nothing sir"he said shaking.

"will you do it?"

"yes sir"

The doctor rushed in with two nurses to prepare the surgery theatre.Meanwhile,i begged Alien.

"Alien,please dont do this. i beg you"

"i gave you your chance. Not anymore"he said. "what is taking so long?!!!"he screamed at the doctor.

"we are ready sir"

"good,take her!"

i resisted being taken into the theatre. The doctor later gave me an injection that made me fall asleep. As my eyes closed,i heard a gunshot and flashes of light. i woke up the next morning to a new environment different from my former room.

"where am i?" i asked a lady who looked like a maid.

"you are safe,you need rest"

"my baby!my baby!"i screamed restlessly.

"your baby is perfectly okay!"the maid moved closer touching my stomach.

"my baby is safe?"

"yes,trust me"

"but who are you?"

A male figure walked in and interrupted our discusion.

"you ask too many questions Toyin!"

"i know you. you are the guy who married Snake's ex-wife.The spy for the cabals"

"you are right! but maybe Snake forgot to tell you but i am one of the good guys now"

"i dont believe you"

"i understand.we rescued you yesterday before they could perform any operation on you"

"how did you know i was there"

"we didnt. lets say luck was on your side. The house you were being kept has been under our survellance for a while now. we noticed a car leaving hurriedly at night. we thought something was fishy,so we followed the car"

"thank God. That bastard killed Kunle and Snake"

"hmmm"

"what?"

"come,i need to show you something"he said offering his hand for support. He took me to a different room where a body laid on a bed. The machine beeps showed the body was alive but could not move. We moved closer and as we did,i recognised the body. It was Kunle!!! he was still alive.

"oh my God!!!kunle!!!"i screamed. "is he asleep?why is he not responding?"

"he is alive but he is currently in a comma"

"comma?!"

"dont worry,he is going to make it"

"are you sure?"

"i am sure"

"what about Snake?!"i asked.

"we could not save him. I am sorry"

"no! this is all my fault"

"your fault? did you pull the trigger? or set the warehouse on fire?"

"no!!!"

"then,it was not your fault. stop crying and join us in bringing the bastards that did this down!let us continue their fight while we wait for Kunle to wake up!Do it for Nigeria,do it for Snake,do it for yourself,do it for Kunle and do it for your unborn chid. Make this country safe for your baby"

"ok!"i shouted still in tears.

The rest evacuated the room leaving me alone with Kunle. i moved closer and felt the burns on his face. Will he ever wake up and when he finally did wake up,will he forgive me?.

"of course he will forgive you"the maid from earlier said like she read my mind.

"how did you know...."

"...what you were thinking?"she said and laughed. "i used to work in the aso villa,one of our trainings included ability to tell the president's distress without him telling us"

"wow!why did you stop working over there?"

"i did not stop,i was laid off alongside other presidential maids"

"but why?"

"the president fell ill and the cabals are keeping it on the down low"

"the president fell sick?"

"that is what we were told but i think he was poisoned"

"by who?"

"who do you think?"

"the cabals!!!"

"yes! with the president out of the way,nothing stood in their way to achieve that dream Nigeria they wanted where they become royals"

"we need to do something"

"we are trying our best but there is little we can do without connections or weapons"

"Kunle had a senator ally. We can contact him"

"do you know how we can do that?"

"yes!"

CHAPTER NINE

It is better to have tried and failed than to not have tried at all. A failure is a bad experience you didn't learn anything from. But if you learn from your bad experiences, they are no longer failures, you have only eliminated a way that wouldn't make you reach a goal. You become one step closer to achieving that goal.

I noticed the cold relationship between Kunle and Alien but I thought it was because of the little fight that happened earlier that week. Even Alien thought so too. Only Kunle knew why he gave Alien the cold shoulders. He was battling within himself on what do. Kill him? If he killed him,the people who planted him would know we were onto them. And the other hand,he Wondered why Alien would do such a thing. Alien seemed the most enthusiastic about the mission amongst us. Did they get to his loved ones? Maybe but how would they know Alien was part of us?. Everything seemed strange but Kunle decided to use Alien against our enemies.

"Snake called. He gathered a few men we could use in moving the weapons" I walked in on Kunle deep in thoughts. "Kunle! Kunle!!"

"Yes!" He broke out from his deep thought. "What happened?"

"Snake called. He has men we can use in moving the weapons"

"Ok. Great!"

"What were you thinking so deeply about?"

"I don't understand"

"When I walked in. You were so deep in thought, you didn't hear me come in"

"Well,there is a lot to think of about this country. Don't you think?"

"Ok! But you know you can tell me anything,right?" I moved closer.

"Sure. I know" he said and paused. "We move out tomorrow"

"Ok. I will tell Alien that"

"No! Don't tell Alien!"

"Why?!" I asked waiting for an answer. "Kunle! Are you shutting Alien out because of what happened in the warehouse?!" I asked again when no answer was forthcoming.

"No! Of course not"

"Then why should I not tell Alien we move to the warehouse tomorrow to transport the weapons"

"Because……" he hesitated. "Because that is my order!"

"Order? You give orders now. Never thought you could be this petty. It was just a little fight, you know?!"

"He could have actually shot you!"

"You really think Alien would shoot me?! The guy loves me…….." I stopped.

"Loves you?! Now, I see what this is all about" he said laughing. "Don't tell Alien!" He said finally with an authoritative tone.

He walked out into the woods to make a call. The phone beeped until a receiver picked the call. It was Snake.

"It is hard man! I feel like telling her so bad!"

"You can't! At least until we are sure if Alien is really a mole. She can't handle that kind of information. It will make her scared,thinking everyone around her is bad. She will never trust again!"

"I know but….."

"Strange! Forget about the love you have for her. If she finds out Alien is a mole,she might never trust anyone again including you!"

"You know I love her?"

"Hahaha" he laughed. "Why won't anybody know with the way your face brightens up whenever you are around her. I am glad you found someone that makes you happy after losing your family"

"She seems to be in love with Alien. She thinks I am the bad guy now"

"Don't worry, she will come around. In the mean time,you need to keep Alien in the dark until we can say he is truly a mole. We can then find a way to take him out"

"I understand. Henceforth, all reports about your progress or troubles at your end be reported only to me"

"I understand"

"Have your men meet us at the location I texted you. How do you plan to get that much men out of the barracks anyways?"

"Leave that to me"

On snake's end,after dropping the call. He dashed straight to his supervisor's office,a corrupt officer.

"What are you doing here John?!" The commander asked on seeing him.

"I need authorization to transport few men out of the barracks tomorrow"

"And why would I authorize that?"

"Because the people we both work for asked for it!"

"I didn't get any of such orders from them"

"Maybe they don't find you capable anymore. Considering the fact that a list of men that worked for them under your watch was stolen and publicized"

"But that was not my fault!"

"Then whose fault?! Start packing your personal effects,I might soon replace you in this office"

"John! You don't know what you are getting yourself into. I know you are trying to get back at me for framing you back then but these people are monsters"

"Maybe you should tell me what I am getting myself into" Snake asked. folding his arms under his armpit.

"They will kill you! They will kill us all!! They want to take over the country"

"Who are they?!"

"Get out of my office!!!" He screamed at Snake.

"You know one thing I like about my phone is it records voices perfectly" snake said bringing out his phone.

"What?! John!!"

"Now I have a audio confession from you. Imagine the headline tomorrow morning. Commander of the 12th battalion confesses to being corrupt,working for powerful cabals and framing junior officer"

"You won't release that,you are bluffing!"

"Oh really?! Watch me mail this audio to Sahara reporters. I wonder what the cabals would do to you. They will probably kill you to cover their trails. You will die a corrupt officer"

"Well played john! Well played!! What do you want me to do?"

"First of all,I would like to know who I work for?"

"They call themselves " the new Nigeria". It is made up of extremely powerful Nigerians, former head of states,presidents,vice presidents, minsters and the rest"

"What is their mission?"

"I don't know!"

"I swear to God! If you don't tell me what I want to know, I will send this audio"

"They want more power! They want to remain powerful! They want to control the affairs of the nation. They want the gap between them and the poor to be so wide,the poor would look like animals compared to them. They plan on destroying democracy and introducing some kind of royal ruling method"

"What?! They are trying to turn themselves into kings over Nigeria? No legislature. Just their decree!"

"Yes! No Wonder the weapons. They are willing to kill to achieve that feat"

"So you see who you work for now? I have nothing more to say"

"If they are monsters and you hate them so much,why do you still work for them? And don't tell me some bullshit about threatening your family. I know you are a widower with no children"

"You are right. I am a widower but like a every human,I want to live a good life and I would do anything to get that good life. They offered me and other senior officers a place in the new Nigeria coming. If you can't beat them,you join then John!"

"Typical of you sir! Always thinking about yourself"

"Whatever happens to others is none of my business. My life is the most important here"

"I agree. Others life do not matter. Mine matters the most. So tell me why I shouldn't send this audio to Sahara reporters since my life is all that matters"

"What are you yapping on about? You work for them too!"

"Do I? Who do you think stole the list from your office? " Snake said. "There,you can have the phone and record of your confession! My number is also on it" Snake said placing a phone on His table. "You are a good man sir! I will be waiting for your call"

Snake walked out leaving his commander to think. His commander sat and thought for a while before he finally picked up the phone and called Snake.

"I should kill you for stealing that document from my office" he said to snake.

"Go ahead" Snake said.

"But I won't. We now have a common enemy. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, right?"

"Right"

"What do you want me to do?"

"Clearance for a few men to leave the barracks and three lorries"

"I might get sanctioned for this but you have it"

"You are doing the right thing sir"

"The right thing won't matter if they find out. Be safe John!"

Snake informed Kunle of his progress. The mission was now a go! Kunle and I set out evening to the state where the warehouse was. Kunle had earlier gave Alien a drink mixed with sleeping pills to make sure he was asleep when we left so he wouldn't ask questions or be suspicious. We arrived the state and met up with Snake and his men.

"Wow! You really got a lot of men on our side" Kunle exclaimed.

"You get genuine support when you do the right thing" Snake said. "Brother!" He said and shook Kunle. "Toyin!" He greeted gesturing at me.

"We need to move! We don't have much time!" Kunle said. He led Snake and the men to the warehouse. As expected, it was not guarded to avoid raising suspicion. After breaking the lock on the door,Snake gestured to his men to move in and load the weapons in the truck. The men went in one after the other each coming back with a box or two and loading it into the truck. Everything was going on well until we heard gunshots. The men went into combat mode and fired at the enemies who increased the number. Snake and his men's weapon were limited compared to the enemies they faced. They didn't stand a chance. We were soon defeated after half of Snake's men were shot dead and the rest were either injured or out of bullets. One,however managed to escape with a truckload of weapons.

"Well!well!!well!!!" A voice said from the dark clapping.

"Alien?!!" I exclaimed when the figure became clearer.

"Toyin"

"What is going on here?!" I asked scared.

"Don't worry baby. I won't hurt you!"

"You bastard!!" Kunle shouted and charged at him. He was restrained by some of the men that attacked us.

"Strange Human! You tried to drug me"

"It should have been poison!" Kunle barked.

"Hahahaha! I should have known. The cold shoulders,Snake no longer giving me updates,the secrets. You would have played me if Toyin here didn't tell me about your secret mission out of goodwill"

"What?!!!" Kunle exclaimed and looked at me with rage in his eyes.

"I am sorry. I didn't know" I sobbed.

"Don't beg him! You are free now! You can now join me. The people I work for will be very happy to welcome you. You can be part of the future of Nigeria!" Alien said to me.

"I don't want to!!!" I screamed.

"You don't have a choice baby! I already made that decision for you!" He said holding my face up. "Take her!!" He ordered the men. They dragged me into one of their vans. The whole while,Kunle knelt facing down. What could be going on his mind? My stupidity and rebellious led to the death of innocent men and put a big setback to the struggle.

"Strange! Snake! You were great brothers! But there comes a time in every mans life he does what his best for his life and future. I am sorry" Alien said as he raised his gun up and shot Kunle and Snake one after the other.

"No!!!!!!!" I screamed. The men restrained me from coming out of the van. The bodies of Snake and Kunle with other men were dragged in the warehouse. After emptying the boxes from the warehouse into their vans. They set the warehouse on fire.

CHAPTER EIGHT

Keep your enemies close and keep your friends even closer. I learnt this lesson a long time but I never really valued its importance. Anybody can betray you anytime. Be careful who you trust and do not put your hopes all anybody. That way,you won't be so hurt when they disappoint you.

We contacted a news agency free of corruption to help publish the names on the list and broadcast to the whole world if any harm should come to their families,the "government" was to blame. This looked like a far fetched idea but now the government (cabal) had no option but to make sure no harm come to the listed names and their family because that would prove us right. All Snake had to do now was get the men on our sides.

"You son of a bitch you did it" a voice said to snake from behind.

"It's you" Snake turned to acknowledge the voice. "I told you I could keep your daughter safe safe. Didn't I?"

"I don't have much time. I can't be seen here talking to you. I have some information. Meet me at your house tonight"

"Ok. I will be there. Hope my son is okay?"

"As long as my daughter is okay,your son will be"

Snake looked at Collins as he walked off. Things were beginning to turn around. That list changed everything. All he had to do now was convince more men to support the struggle. He walked up to a group of soldiers chatting and hid out of their sight.

"It is crazy man" one of them said.

"Whoever published that list checkmated those guys. Now they can't hurt our families" another said laughing.

"We are free!"

"Not totally free!"

Snake came out of hiding and showed himself to the guys. The soldiers quickly adjusted themselves.

"What if I told you guys I know who did it? And you can be totally free!" Snake said.

The soldiers hesitated thinking it was a trap.

"Don't be scared guys. I am one of the good guys. Would you be willing to do anything for your freedom and the safety of your family?"

"Yes sir!" A courageous one answered. "But they are powerful. What can we do?!"

"What strength do they have? You are their strengths! Without you working for them. They are nothing. Don't you realise the power you guys posses?!"

The men looking convinced and assured started responding to Snake.

"What do we do Sir?!" They asked in unison.

"Resist and fight!!!" Snake said with a straight face. "Spread the word! Tell your trusted friends! Come together! They are nothing without us! They hide behind us to perform their evil! Resist and fight!!!"

The men dispersed immediately as though Snake's words were some sought of energizer. Meanwhile,Kunle,Alien and I were having trouble locating the governors daughter. We used our contact, the senator but he wasn't much help. We later changed focus to the weapons the senator said was imported into the country of recent. The senator gave us a location possibly where the weapons were being kept. It could be a trap or not. But we were not going to sit around and do nothing.

"You know,it is not compulsory you come along" Alien said to me as we parked together for the mission.

"No. I want to see this true" I said.

"That's what I like about you" he said smiling at me. "You are a strong girl"
"Thank you" I said shyly.

"You are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen"

Okay! Now it was getting weird. I thought of an excuse to leave his side. Finally,something came up.

"Let me see how Kunle is doing" I said excusing myself.

"Wait!" He said holding my hand. "Hope I didn't scare you off"

"No! Not at all!"

"I was just saying my mind"

"Thanks for the compliment" I faked a smile while he looked at me intensely.

"I love you Toyin. There I said it"

I was startled. What?!!! Love me?!!! This guy had to be like years older than me.

"I am sorry" I stammered after regaining myself. "You are older than me and all. I can't. Sorry!" I said.

"Age is just a number Toyin" he said smiling.

"I know but I can't" I said and walked away.

I joined Kunle in the other room where he planned on how we would break into the warehouse where the weapons were. In no fewer minutes,Kunle and I were chatting and laughing to the high heavens. Can you blame me? I felt safe with that guy. Could this be love? I don't know but it feels good. Alien came by the door and watched as I flirted and laughed with Kunle. Bitterness and anger was all over his face.

"We need to go!" He said after staring for a while.

"Okay,we will join you soon" Kunle said.

We drove the long distance that led to the warehouse. It was in another state so the journey was a long one. Few distance to the warehouse, we parked and walked the rest. The warehouse was located in an open environment. It was probably located there not to raise suspicions. Who would suspect a warehouse in an open environment was full of guns?. After scanning the environment and no sign of guards,we proceeded to enter. Alien used a metal rod to break the locks. He did it so professionally,something tells me this is not the first time he has broken into somewhere. What I am even saying? He is a skilled military man after all.

The interior of the warehouse looked normal except for wooden crates arranged inside. On opening the crates, they were filled with sophisticated guns and other weapons.

"Wow! These people don't play at all!" Alien said amazed.

"What do they need all this for?!" Kunle asked rhetorically.

While we were lost in thoughts. A man walked in on us and shouted. He was probably the security in charge.

"What are you doing here?!!" He said bringing out a gun. Alien shot the gun from his hands.

"We ask the questions around here!" Alien said.
"Please don't kill me! I don't know anything!" He begged.

"You must know something" Kunle said. "Tell us everything you know!"

"Okay! Okay!! Some days ago,some men hired this warehouse from my oga! They loaded something inside but I didn't check!"

"So you don't know these boxes are filled with guns?"

"I don't!. I swear!!!"

"What can you tell us about the men that brought this?"

"Nothing sir! Except that they came back yesterday to take some of the boxes away. I don't where they took them!"

"Do you think he is telling the truth?" Kunle asked Alien and I.

"There is only one way to find out" Alien said and pointed a gun at the security man.

"God! What are you doing?" I screamed.

"What does it look like I am doing?"

"Pointing a gun to a harmless man?!" I challenged him.

"Would you prefer I point the gun at you?" He asked. I kept silent.

"Good! Then shut up and let me do my job,idiot!" Alien shouted at me.

"Woa man! Take it easy. Why are you talking to her like that?" Kunle challenged.

"I can talk to anyone the way I like!"

"What is wrong with you man?! You are acting strange!"

"No! What is wrong with you?! You are going soft dude! Ever since she came along! You went soft. Get your head back in the game!" He said and walked away to an extreme end of the warehouse.

"What's wrong with him?!" Kunle asked me confused.

"I don't know" I said shaking. "What do we do now about the weapons?"

"We hit the cabals where it hurts the most. We steal the weapons"

"How are we going to transport all this without raising suspicions?"

"I don't know. We need Snake and his army men now more than ever. I hope he made progress!. Meanwhile, we leave and plant the security man here as our man. We will come back to take all this"

"Okay. Can we go now? I don't feel so good"

"Alien!!!" He called him. "If you are still interested in being a member of the group, you can follow us!" He said. Alien reluctantly followed us. Kunle had a small talk with the security man who assured us of his loyalty. Kunle also planted a camera in the warehouse.

Snake took yet another permission to go out of the barrack. He went to see Collins in his former house as requested.

"Why did you want to see me?!" Snake asked him.

"I might useful information about the whereabouts of the governors daughter"

"What?! Spill it already"

"The operation was very classified. Only few top men were involved and knows the location. I don't know where she is but I might have a lead"

"Okay. What is the lead?"

"One of my guys who was involved in the operation said they dropped her at this location" he said handing him a paper. "Although, she might have been moved but you might find useful information in that location"

"Thanks. This will really go a long way"

"Be careful! These men are not like the usual ones you have faced. They are more experienced and dangerous"

"I know. They did overpower an experienced friend who was watching over the governor's daughter"

"What are you saying? My guy didn't say they faced anybody protecting her"

"What?! There was a guy!"

"Yes. There was a guy according to my source but the guy there was the one that handed over the governor's daughter. He was even the one that gave out the location"

"What?!!! You are trying to get in my head! They got their location because another associate called him with a bugged phone which they used to trace the location"

"Think about it! How many minutes were they on the phone? How could the men have gotten there that fast. They were already probably there and needed that call as a coverup"

"I don't believe you!!" Snake said stepping back. He left the environment and made a call to Kunle.

"Snake"

"Strange Human"

"How is everything at that end?"

"Going well. I got a few men now. But that is not why I am calling. The day the governor's daughter was kidnapped, how many minutes were you on the call with Alien?"

"I don't know. Four minutes?"

"How many minutes would it take to drive down to the safe house from the junction leading to it?"

"Maybe 6 minutes. Why are you asking me this Snake?"

"Think Strange. Think! If it takes 6 minutes to get the safehouse from that junction and you were only the call with Alien for 4 minutes. How did the men get there so fast?"

"Oh crap!!!" Kunle jerked up realising Snake's point. "How could I have been so stupid?! It was obvious"

"Alien is a spy amongst us,Strange. We have been compromised"

"Why would he do this?!"

"I don't know but you are not safe in that location. You need to move. And take care of Alien!"

"I have to go!!!" Kunle said and ended the call.

"Who was that?" Alien asked Kunle.

Kunle hesitated but changed his mind.

"Snake! No men are willing to join our movement" he lied.

"That's bad. Look man! I want to apologize about today. I don't know what came over me"

"It is okay. This things happen. We have to disagree to agree" Kunle said faking a smile.

CHAPTER SEVEN

Challenges shouldn't hinder you from greatness in life. The mere fact that you are facing challenges means you are on the right path.

"Good evening and welcome to the evening news" the news anchor went. "The Governor of Osun as dropped his new formed party to join back his old party, the ruling party. More details shortly" he concluded. Kunle switched off the TV. Since the governor's daughter has been captured. We were able to use the senator Ibikunle's to regain our freedom from the men in black.

"I can't believe this. The governor is backing out" I said.

"Do you blame him? A father would do anything for his daughter" Kunle said.

"I am sorry guys. This is all my fault" Alien said.

"This is nobody's fault. There was nothing you could do" Kunle said.

"What do we do now? Without a powerful politician in the party, the political party is as good as dead" I asked.

"What about if the senator joins?" Alien suggested.

"No. We need the senator on the lowkey for now. Dumping the ruling party would race suspicions and attention"

"So what are you suggesting?"

"We will try to talk to the governor and make him see reason"

"What if he doesn't?"

"When we get to that bridge,we will cross it. Meanwhile, contact Snake. Tell him to look around,maybe someone in the army was involved in the operation to kidnap the governor's daughter"

Kunle and I left to see the governor. Kunle texted him to meet up at their secret location. Few minutes later,the governor arrived in a car and a trusted bodyguard.

"Why did you call me here?" The governor asked immediately he stepped in the room.

"We need your support sir! We can not do this without you!!"

"You should have thought about that before you allowed those monsters take my daughter!!!"

"We will get her back. We are on it"

The governor took a deep sigh.

"Strange Human,I appreciate all you have done for me all this while. I do. But,this is my daughter we are talking about here. I am sorry,but my hands are tied. I will no longer be a part of this. Neither will I be funding this course anymore. Now,I am ordering you to stand down. Any steps you take henceforth will be considered illegal and a crime against the state. Do you understand?"

"But sir……."

"Do you understand?!!!"

"Yes Sir!"

"Good!" The Governor said as he walked out.

"Are we really giving up?" I asked after the Governor left.

"No! The plan just changed"

We left the safe house. It was no longer safe anymore. Meanwhile, after Alien had called Snake about the incident. Snake snooped around trying to get information.

"New recruit?" He asked a young soldier.

"Who is asking?" The young soldier challenged until he around and saw Snake's badges. "I am so sorry Sir! This is my third month here Sir!"

"Third month? Are you from a rich family?"

"No Sir!"

"Nice watch" he said pointing to his watch. "And nice phone. Three months salary couldn't have got you that. And neither did you parent's money. So how can you afford them?"

"Uhmmm….uhmmm…uhmmm" he stammers.

"Relax! I am one of you guys" he said. "One has to make extra cash even if it is illegal. Am I right?"

"Yes Sir! But….."

"But what?"

"Never mind Sir!"

"Hey! Talk to me. But what?"

"This is not what I wanted. I enjoy the money but the things they make us do. It is crazy. My conscience is killing me"

"So why did you join then?"

"I didn't of my own free will. Immediately after recruitment, they approached us and threatened us"

"What do you mean approach you?"

"Almost all the recruits were forced to join. Those who did not join paid the price. The commanders take us out weekly to perform operations for very important people"

"You said those who didn't join paid the Price? What price?"

"They lost their family. That is the way they got us to join. They threaten to kill our family"

Snake was speechless. This was a new revelation. Family! The weakness of every human.

"But why don't you just run away with your family?"

"They have people watching them. I don't know how but they do! One guy tried it but he and his family didn't even make it out of their house"

"Do you know how many of you were forced into this?"

"I don't know the exact number but it is a lot. There is a list of names kept by the corrupt commanders"

"Okay!" Snake concluded. "What about the governor's daughter? Do you know if any of your guys were involved in the operation?"

"I don't think so. If they were,it must have been very Private"

"Take care of yourself boy" Snake said and left him. He went straight into one of the corrupt commanders office.

"John! What are you doing here?!"

"I just wanted a little pay back for last time" he said and covered the commanders mouth then blindfolded him. He searched through his documents cabinet to cabinet until he found what he was looking for. The list of soldiers and their pictures beside them. He took pictures of the lists with his phone. After he was done,he removed the blindfold.

"Now you know how I felt when you and others tied me up and blindfolded me" Snake said.

"What? That was a long time ago. You kept a grudge for that long?"

"What can I say? I have a problem"

"If we didn't belong to the same group. I swear to God,I would have……"

Snake didn't wait for him to finish his words before he walked out. After he got to an isolated area,he brought out his phone and put a call through to Kunle.

"Hello Strange"

"Snake!"

"I have news! It is the recruits they use to carry out their evil work. The killings, kidnapping and all"

"Go on"

"Most of them don't really want to be part of all this. They were forced. They threatened to kill their families"

"Oldest trick in the book"

"I have a list of their names. If we can protect their families. Maybe,they would switch sides and be on our side"

"I don't know man. There are only three of us excluding you. How can we protect them all?"

"I don't know. But we have to try. If we can get the loyalty of that kind of Number in the army. It will be a step forward in our struggle"

"Send the list. We will see what we can do!"

Snake got off the phone and sent the list to Kunle. After sending, he went through the list.

"What the hell?!" He exclaimed at a face on the list.

He took permission to leave the barracks and drove straight home.

"What are you doing here. I thought my wife said you shouldn't come here again?!" His ex-wife's husband said.

"You bastard!!!" He said and punched him in the face. "Collins Adeboye! They sent you here to spy on my family, right?"

"Hahaha" he laughed. "What took you so long?" He said. "Don't worry, they are safe. As long as you do your job well"

"I swear to God,if anything happens to them……"

"You would kill me?" He interrupted him. "Kill me. Another man will be assigned to monitor them. He might not be as nice as I am"

"Just pray nothing nothing happens to them!"

"Just do your job! And besides, I care for your wife,it is the little boy I don't care for"

"You bastard!!!" Snake held him in the neck and pushed him to the wall.

"You know ,it was very easy getting into your wife's life. She is a cheap slut"

"Shut up!!!" He shouted and punched him. Snake turned back to leave but had a change of mind and turned to face him again.

"What did they use to get you?" Snake asked him. "Was it your wife?" He paused. "Your child?" He paused and noticed the startled reaction on his face. "It is your child isn't it? You are doing all this because they threatened to kill him or her if you didn't do it?" He paused again. "What if I told you I can keep them safe?"

"What can you do?" He gave out a dry laugh. "I already lost her mother. I can't risk her life" he paused. "If you will excuse me. I have work to do. And so do you, if you want to keep your family alive,do it well because I will do mine well to keep my daughter alive"

Meanwhile,Kunle and I went through the names on the list. The families of this people were scattered around the country. How could we save them all?

"I have an idea!" I said.

"Okay. Let's hear it!"

"Ok. The cabals or whatever their name is like all their operations to be on the down low, right?"

"Yes"

"What if we draw enough media attention that killing the families of the names on the list would cause an uproar. They wouldn't want that kind of attention "

"That's actually a good idea" Kunle said. "If we can get the names on this list to be on our side. We are one step closer to achieving our dream"

Kunle's phone buzzed. A message had entered.

"Who is that?" I asked him.

"The senator. He said the cabals shipped in a truck load of weapons yesterday. Why? He doesn't know but this is not good"

"Wait!" Alien said. "Weapons were shipped in yesterday and there was an attack today that claimed lives. Don't you think there is a connection?"

"Why would the cabals go on a killing spree? It doesn't make sense"

There we have it. Overcome one challenge and onto the next one. But that wouldn't stop us. Although,having the governor's backing and support would go a long way. We found a way without him. But,search was still on to find his daughter.
