EducationRe: September 2026 Intake Checklist For Nigerian Students by hilfeng: 12:20pm On May 13
This is very insightful, don't forget they need their German language lessons.

unipassnigeria:
Hello Nairalanders,

If you’re planning to study abroad for September 2026, this is your sign to stop saying: “I’ll start soon…” . Because the truth is, students who prepare early usually have: Better school options, Less stress and More time to plan properly. A lot of people think studying abroad starts with visa applications. It doesn’t. It starts with preparation. So here’s a realistic checklist every Nigerian student should already be thinking about

1. International Passport
First things first, do you have a valid passport? You’d be surprised how many students delay their entire process because they haven’t sorted this out. If your passport:
• Has expired
• Is close to expiring
• Or you don’t have one yet
…start there immediately.

2. School & Course Research
Don’t just choose a country because it’s trending. Ask yourself:
• What course do I actually want to study?
• Which schools fit my budget?
• Which country aligns with my long-term goals?
Remember: The “best country” is the one that works for YOU.

3. Academic Documents
These are some of the basics many schools will request:
• Academic transcripts
• Certificates
• Statement of Purpose (SOP)
• CV/Resume (sometimes)
The earlier you organize these, the smoother your process becomes.

4. Funding Plan
This is where many students get stuck. A lot of people focus only on admission and completely ignore:
• Tuition costs
• Living expenses
• Payment timelines
Studying abroad is easier when you plan financially early instead of panicking later.

5. Understand Timelines
One mistake students make is assuming: “There’s still time.” Meanwhile:
• Some courses begin filling up
• Processing takes time
• Delays can affect visa timelines
Waiting too long can reduce your options.

6. Decide Your Preferred Country
Popular options for Nigerian students include:
• UK 🇬🇧
• Canada 🇨🇦
• Australia 🇦🇺
• Germany 🇩🇪
• Ireland 🇮🇪
• UAE 🇦🇪
Each country has:
- Different costs
- Different visa processes
- Different opportunities
So choose wisely, not emotionally.

7. Get Proper Guidance
This process can feel confusing when:
• Everybody is giving different advice
• Social media is full of mixed information
• You don’t know where to start
The right guidance helps you:
- Avoid mistakes
- Save time
- Make smarter decisions

Final Truth
You do not need to have everything figured out before you start.
But you SHOULD start early enough to give yourself better opportunities.
Because once application pressure starts building, everything becomes more stressful.
