Maybe I should educate you a bit because you are sincere. Not all tunnels, bridges, flyovers and roads are for heavy duty vehicles. Right here in Port Harcourt there are 2 flyovers for only small cars at Rumuola and CFC but it doesn't make them less of a flyover than the one at Mile 1 or Agip that carry heavy duty vehicles. Those criticizing that tunnel are either insincere, unenlightened or following a bandwagon. There are even bridges for pedestrians alone that cars cannot use.

Coming back to the the Owerri tunnel it took up the design and size of the parent roads which are narrow with wide median. You can only observe this when you visit and then again the place is not hilly enough and its unwise to dig further beyond the height used. The tunnel will be more prone to flooding if dug further to accommodate higher vehicles.

It may be wiser to convert the tunnel to overhead bridge with supporting pillars to raise the height and width but then is the money available? Let's enjoy the gains of the small one while the future might see us having flyovers instead.
