Ordinarily, wisdom is defined as the ability to assess issues and situations correctly, following the best course of action on the basis of sound knowledge and understanding. This is clearly different from the wisdom of the world, which seeks to measure all forms of wisdom merely on the basis of human knowledge, understanding and rationality.
The biblical concept of wisdom is quite different from the standard view which seeks to subject itsunderstanding of wisdom to philosophical and rational thought in explaining the deep mysteries of human existence. This has been described variously in the Scriptures as the wisdom of this world, human wisdom, the wisdom of men, the wisdom of this age and man’s wisdom.
In our text, Paul the apostle, in proffering answers to the questions of the Corinthian church, made it abundantly clear that there is a world of difference between biblical wisdom and the wisdom of the world. The first principle of biblical wisdom is that people should humble themselves before God in total obedience and reverential worship; and accept the message of the Cross as real and final.
Non-Christians do not see the gospel as the power of God unto salvation. One’s decision to follow the Lord seems to them foolish and silly. No one can comprehend God but believers are given the spirit to understand God’s plans. The world still clings to the wisdom of this age which eliminates God from the realm of man. The wisdom of God is a mystery. He has chosen both base and foolish things to confound the worldly wise. As you read this, the only true option open to you is to stop rationalizing the message of salvation, accept Christ and follow Him all the way. This is the only true type of wisdom that humanity needs today.

TITLE: RECOGNIZING FALSE PROPHETS BY THEIR FRUITS

TEXT: Matthew 7:16-18

“Beware of false prophets. Ye shall know them by their fruits.” To take heed and to avoid being destroyed and devoured by ravening wolves, we must be able to discern and recognize the wolves even when they are clothed in sheep’s clothing. If bottles of wholesome medicine and deadly poison are placed on the table without any label on the bottles or wrong labels on the bottles, lives could be lost because of our inability to recognize the proper bottles. Imagine a convicted sinner standing before the gates (one wide, the other, strait and narrow) wondering which one to enter in hope of receiving salvation and eternal life. The false prophet, with a comforting, reassuring voice points him to the wide gate and the broad way. If the awakened, convicted sinner takes the false prophet for a truthful, faithful prophet he could seal his doom forever.

“By their fruits ye shall know them” (Matthew 7:20,16). Trees will be identified by their fruits. At a distance trees may look alike, but a close inspection of their fruits will enable us to distinguish between trees with good, wholesome fruits and trees with evil, corrupt fruits. Concerning the false prophets, the fruits refer to their creed, their character, and their converts; their doctrine, their deeds and their disciples; their beliefs, their behaviour, and their brethren. The threefold fruit of life and labour, message and ministry, family, fellowship and followers will reveal much about who a teacher-preacher is - whether he is a faithful prophet or a false prophet.

1. THE INWARD CORRUPTION OF FALSE PROPHETS
Matthew 7:15-17; 23:25-28; Luke 11:39; Psalm 5:9; Hosea 9:7-9; Matthew 12:33-35;
2 Peter 2:1,12-14; 2 Timothy 3:5-8; Titus 1:16; 2 Peter 2:17-19.

“Inwardly they are ravening wolves. He knew what was in man. Your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness. Within they are full of extortion and excess. Ye indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of all uncleanness. Ye outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.” These are statements from Christ concerning false prophets exposed by Him so that true seekers after God will take heed and beware of them. “Man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). Men are always evaluating prophets or preachers by their outward projects, programs, performance and popularity. As long as we focus on the outward prosperity of false prophets and do not consider what they are inwardly, we shall never be able to recognize or refuse those false prophets. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: WHO CAN KNOW IT? I the LORD search the heart” (Jeremiah 17:9,10). The man of God from Judah could not recognize the old prophet in Bethel as a false prophet (1 Kings 13:11-24). Jehoshaphat could not recognize the inward corruption and deception of Ahab and his false prophets (1 Kings 22:4-8,17,18,29-37). Even the disciples of Christ could not recognize the inward corruption and secret plan of the false prophet in their midst (John 13:21-29). The kings and all the people on earth will not be able to recognize the future false prophet and the Antichrist and they will deceive the whole world (Revelation 16:13,14). Christ knows all things and all people. What we cannot know or discern by our natural intellect, He reveals to us in the Scripture by His Spirit (Luke 24:45; John 16:13). “Be not wise in thine own eyes”. Listen to the good Shepherd. Trust your Lord and Saviour more than your feeble intellect; “beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but INWARDLY they are revening wolves”.

2. THE INSATIABLE COVETOUSNESS OF FALSE PROPHETS
Matthew 7:16-18; Isaiah 56:10,11; Micah 3:11; Jeremiah 6:13-15; Ezekiel 22:23-27;
1 Timothy 6:5-10; Titus 1:10,11; 2 Peter 2:3; Jude 10-13; 2 Peter 3:10-14.

“Ye shall know them by their fruits.” If we cannot always search into the inner or inward corruption of the false prophets, we can at least see their insatiable covetousness. How many preachers and christian ministers will remain in the ministry if it became necessary and compulsory for all christian preachers to be as poor as Christ and the Apostles in the early Church? How many of us will remain in full-time ministry if prosperity and popularity were not attached to the ministry? Covetousness is one of the identifying marks of false prophets. “They are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his GAIN, from his quarter.” “Everyone is given to covetousness; from the prophet even unto the priest.” “The priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for MONEY”. “Men of corrupt minds, destitute of the truth, supposing that GAIN is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. For the love of money is the root of all evil.” “There are many deceivers teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake” (‘for the purpose of getting disreputable gain’). “There shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies. And through COVETOUSNESS shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.”

The faithful prophet, like the shepherd, cares for the flock more than he cares for his life; the false prophet, like the ravening wolf, cares for nothing but to satisfy his own gluttony, and his own greed. The false prophet is in the business of religion for what profit he can get for himself. His basic motivation is self-interest; like an hireling, he labours and ministers for material gain. Instead of ministering and teaching for the purpose of opening blinded minds to saving and sanctifying truths of the gospel, he is in the ministry for the pay it offers.

3. THE IGNOMINIOUS CHARACTER OF FALSE PROPHETS
Matthew 7:16-18; Ephesians 5:12; Jeremiah 2:8,26; Jeremiah 23:11-14; Ezekiel 13:22;
Revelation 2:20-23; Romans 2:19-24; 2 Peter 2:2; 1 John 4:1,5,6; Matthew 7:21-23.

False prophets and their followers hate exposure. They often accuse those who remove their masks or their garb of deception, their sheep’s clothing, of being narrow-minded preachers who lack love for all. The minister of health who exposes quack doctors is not lacking in love; the father who warns his daughters of the ‘snake in the grass’ is not narrow-minded or devoid of love; the shepherd who unmasks wolves in sheep’s clothing so as to protect the flock of Christ cannot be accused of having no love. Love is faithful and truthful. It was love for sinners and saints, love for “other sheep which are not of this fold” and for the “little flock” already saved which moved Christ, the good Shepherd, to tear off the disguise of the false prophets. Love compels faithful shepherds to expose deadly enemies of the flock and reveal them in their real character. Christ did not hesitate to brand these subtle deceivers as “ravening wolves” because that is who they are.

“Ravening wolves”! The wolf, like the fox, is tricky and treacherous, subtle and sly. See an example of the subtilty of “that fox” (Luke 13:31,32; Matthew 2:7,8,12-16 - note: these are two different Herods, foxes, wolves, but they had the same nature - murderous subtilty). False prophets “lie in wait to deceive” and they employ “cunning craftiness” to entice souls into their trap. As wolves are cruel and merciless, so are these deceivers of souls. They profess much love but they are full of hatred toward those who expose them. They are greedy, avaricious and hungry for applause and the praise of men. “Their prophets are light and treacherous” (Zephaniah 3:4), frivolous, not sober. Their character matches their conviction and their choice. They recommend the wide gate instead of the strait gate; they walk in the broad way instead of the narrow way. As their creed does not accept the narrow gate and the narrow way, their character or conduct does not reflect self-denial, cross-bearing, crucifixion of the self-life and the mortification of “the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life” (Matthew 16:24; Luke 9:23; 14:25-27; Galatians 2:20; 1 John 2:15-17).

*TEXT: PROVERBS 9:11-18*

*"Key Verse: “If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it” (Proverbs 9:12)."*
It is the punishment placed on offenders of our laws that helps to abate, to a great extent, the spateof crime and civil disorder in the society. The unregenerate, sinful man deceives himself by believingthat obeying God’s word or respecting civil government is doing favour to God or society. He counts it a loss to himself not to indulge in fleshly sin. He takes sin as sport, thinking he can have the pleasure of sin and avoid the consequences or shift them altogether to some other person.
In our text, we see that vices and virtues neither corrupt God nor change Him. Man is the ultimate sufferer of the outcome of his sin. In fact, the consequences of sin or righteous behaviour may truly affect fellow men, but the greater effects of them are reaped by the doer. Living out the Word for others to see may bring about changes in the lives of others. In the final analysis however, the benefit of godliness is more to the doer.
In the same vein, if we continue to live in sin, we behave unwisely. Sickness and premature death will be the outcome of such a lifestyle while righteousness and holy living will prolong the lives of children of God. In the end, the righteous will be able to stand before the Son of God in heaven.
Sin is enticing and its effects are very dangerous. One sin leads to another until the sinner becomes inextricably entwined. Consider the consequences of sin today and deliver your soul like a deer escaping the hunter’s hound. It is wise to confess your sin and surrender your life to Jesus now. He will have mercy and save you.

TOPIC: The Privilege Of Sonship

"Saturday. January 10, 2015"

*TEXT: JOHN 1:10-14*

*"Key Verse: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12)."*
Princes and princesses of this world walk tall because of their royal birth. They are regarded as principal citizens and enjoy exclusive privileges just for being born by a king. But how more glorious it is to be born into the family of the King of kings and Lord of lords. “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: ther efore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.” glorious it is to be born into the family of the King of kings and Lord of lords. “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we shoul embarassedd be called the sons of God: ther efore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.”
The same blindness that prevented the world of Jesus’ time from knowing that the Creator incarnated and was in their midst is happening to a greater part of the world today. The text uniquelyand pungently revealed the identity of Christ as the Word that has been with God from the beginning and through whom all things were made. As Light of a world that had been darkened by sin, He came to seek and to save the lost mankind. The great John the Baptis came to herald His coming. Yet, with all the signs and wonders Christ Himself wrought, many people still “knew him not”. He came into the world among the Jews and they failed to acknowledge Him as the long-awaited Messiah – “his own received him not”. But God’s salvation plan is far higher than their expectation. “As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”
To receive Christ implies personally taking Him as your Saviour. Believing His name means accepting the purpose of it - the offer of salvation through it (Matthew 1:21). Access to God through prayers is by the name of Jesus. This is how to obtain the power of sonship of God with innumerable blessings here and hereafter. Much more than princes, we have been made “kings and priests”.

TOPIC: When God Fights For You

"Friday, January 09, 2015"

*TEXT: JOSHUA 10:1-11*

*"Key Verse: “And the LORD discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Bethhoron, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah” (Joshua 10:10)."*
There is so much truth in the saying that “if God is all you have, then you have got all you need.” This is because if we allow God have full control of our lives, He will manifest His power in everyarea of our needs.
Israel, on their way to the Promised Land under the leadership of Joshua, encountered many hostile nations. But they prevailed against all. News of their incredible victories made kings to panic. Indeed, Gibeon, a great city of mighty men, found it expedient to submit to the superior power of Israel even under tough terms. Adonizedec king of Jerusalem feared Israel and was incensed with Gibeon for submitting and signing a pact with them. Panic-stricken, he arranged a confederacy with four neighbouring kings against Gibeon. Gibeon handed the battle to Israel who routed the confederacy of five Amorite kingdoms.
Notice how the event was captured in verse 10: “And the LORD discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Bethhoron, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.”
This string of victories did not come to Israel by dint of hard work or military might; God fought for them. As long as Israel was in good standing with Him, the Lord of hosts remained their Banner.
God still fights for His people. For those who through repentance and faith in Christ have submitted their lives to God, He is the Source of their victory. When God fights for you, no confederacy of demons or men can withstand you.

TOPIC: Make It Simple

"Tuesday, January 06, 2015"

*TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 2:1-5*

*"Key Verse: "And I, brethren, when Icame to you, came notwith excellency of speechor of wisdom, declaringunto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified" (1 Corinthians 2:1,2)."*
Many times, we wonder why we make much efforts in evangelism with little or no result. The reason is that like the marketers, we spend so much time trying to impress sinners with our knowledge of Scriptures instead of giving them the simple message of Christ's love and offer of salvation.
At other times, it is our motive in evangelism that is wrong. Instead of preaching the simple gospel truth of the necessity of the new birth for everyone, we try to win an argument on the superiority of our religion or denomination over those of others.
It is even more repulsive to see that self projection, gain and glory appears to be driving force of many so-called gospel campaigns. A look at their advertisements and publicity will show that they, not Christ, are at the centre of attraction. When they give out invitations, it is not to come to Christ but to come to them. It is not any wonder then that though it appears that more gospel works are going on all over the places, there is little or no impact.
If we are to succeed in our soul-winning efforts, we must follow the example of Paul the apostle revealed in our text. His intention for preaching is very clear: to have men saved. His goal was to make the declaration of the gospel message very simple for people to understand. He never tried to use the enticing words of men's wisdom or impress by preaching what the people would love to hear.
He preached the truth of the necessity of salvation through repentance and faith in Christ's death. When nothing but Christ is plainly preached, genuine and heaven minded converts will be won.

*"Key verse: "I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great" (Daniel 8:4)."*
Christ Jesus hath the power, the power to destroy, the power to bruise your enemy, who would your soul annoy, Christ Jesus hath the power, when on your dying bed to give your soul the victory, the power to raise the dead".
These lines are from a song that is meant to reassure believers in Christ of the unconquerable power of Christ Jesus. In life, there are many problems that appear insurmountable.
All through the ages, men have arisen to be a terror to their fellow men. They roll out oppressive policies that draw tears from the eyes of fellow citizens. They operate as if they have the power of life and death because nobody can stop them.
King Pharaoh of Egypt in Moses time was in this mould. He oppressed the Jews so cruelly that it appeared there would never be any respite. Day and night, the people of God were told to make bricks without straws being provided for them. They toiled and groaned while the enemy pushed furiously. But that display of brute power and sheer wickedness terminated at the Red Sea. Israel got their freedom, while Pharaoh and his men perished.
In today's text, Daniel saw some visions of rams, one of them exercising formidable power, "pushing westward and northward and southward" so that no beast might stand before him. But a hegoat demystified the ram. The he-goat cast the ram down to the ground and stamped upon him, and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand (verse 7).
Believers must put their faith in the Almighty who alone has the ultimate power to throw down all the seeming formidable power of the enemy. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus has the power to destroy every strongman or evil personality no matter the forces behind him. Trust Him always, no matter how grave the challenges you face may be.

*"Key Verse: "And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so" (Genesis 1:15
)"*
What will the earth look like without the sun that sustains its ecology? Scientists have not relented in their efforts at unravelling the mysteries behind the sun, though they have difficulties appreciating the spiritual significance of Christ as the Light of the world.
A clear understanding of the gospel truth which portrays the Lord as the Sun of righteousness to those who are groping in spiritual darkness and ignorance will make the truth about creation clearer.
In the believer's life, light figures as a distinguishing factor between the old life of indulgence and darkness and a new life that is full of the marvellous light of Christ (Ephesians 2:1-3
). Just as the sun is an unrivalled fountain of light upon mankind, so is our Lord Jesus Christ the principal Source of spiritual light in the world (John 8:12
). Motions made without Christ will result in groping and stumbling in the dark. The prominence and permanence of the sun exemplifies Christ's continual and outstanding domination of our lives through His righteousness that constantly radiates in us.
It is time to expose your life to increased rays and powerful impact of Christ's righteousness. For, He is the brightness of the Father's glory (Hebrews 1:3
). Also, allow your light to illuminate someone else today. Do good to them, the greatest of which is to expose them to the gospel light.
Arise and shine! Do not try to separate from Christ who is the Light of the world. Such a decision will lead to living in darkness of sin and imprisonment by the devil. Your spiritual light will continue to glow as long as you abide in Jesus.
It is as you remain sincerely attached to Him that you will be able to illuminate the darkened world around you and bring glory to Christ.

TOPIC: Serving A Void-Filling God

"Thursday, January 01, 2015"

*TEXT: GENESIS 1:1-2 *

*"Key Verse "And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters" (Genesis 1:2)."*
To find out what the future held in store at the start of every year or at the beginning of a journey, ancient heathen sages would slaughter an animal and study the intricate make up of its skin and intestines.
A reading of the complex entrails, guided by esoteric parchments, offered a hint of the future.
What a blind, tortuous and hazardous plunge into the unknown! The Christian who is serving the Creator of heaven and earth does not have to engage in such pursuit of attempting to know a void in-between a beginning and an ending.
Rather, He should be rest assured in the custody of the Saviour who always faithfully fills up time and space. The genuine Christian puts his absolute faith in the unfailing promise of the Creator who says, "I am with you alway even unto the end of the world" (Matthew 28:20).
Believers, therefore, should move into the New Year with unswerving faith in the God of creation whose Spirit "moved upon the face of the waters" and displaced the formless void and darkness. The fear and anxiety that characterize these perilous times (2 Timothy 3:1) cannot be the portion of true Christians who are under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
God, however, expects us to live righteously; He expects us to fully consecrate and commit our lives to Him; He expects us to use our resources to serve Him to be able to enjoy His promised blessings.
In the course of this year, there is need for us to regularly evaluate our lives and work to ensure they are acceptable to Him. As God taps us into consciousness each day after a sweet sleep, we must appreciate Him for taking care of our yesterday, today and tomorrow (posterity) by preaching Jesus the Saviour to the lost world.
As we do, His Spirit will move to destroy the works of the devil, set people free from sin and bondage and fill every void in them for His glory.

"*Key Verse: "ANd she said unto him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth unto the LORD, do to me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as the LORD hath taken vengeance for thee of thine enemies, even of the children of Ammon" (Judges 11:36)*"
As we reflect on the story of Jephthah and his vow in our text, we cannot but notice the love and devotion of his only daughter to him. She was a child that shared in the dream and vision of her father and did everything to demonstrate this. No doubt, her heart must have gone with her father as he went out in the battle against the children of Ammon. And as the father returned in victory, she led her friends with joy and singing to welcome him without knowing the vow he had made with God. As the father expressed grief concerning this, she encouraged him to pay his vow even though that would bring so much pain and loss to her. Her love for her father made her to be willing to support him to pay his vow.
It is interesting to note that when she asked her father for two months to bemoan her virginity with her friends in a faraway place, she willingly returned after the period. She did not see that as an opportunity to run away. She was fully submissive, yielded and obedient to her father, even to the point of being willing to be used to pay her father's vow. What a love!
Do we have such love and commitment in our homes today? How many children are willing to be that submissive and obedient to their parents to the point of making painful sacrifices for them? How do we show our love for God and for one another in the family of God? Where there is true love, there will be obedience, encouragement and support one for another in the will of God. There will be the willingness to stand by one another in trying and difficult moments as we all forge ahead in our pilgrimage with commitment to God and His cause in the world.

*TEXT: JOHN 1:1-9*

*"Key Verse: "That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world" (John 1:9)."*
The importance of sunlight is obvious to everyone. It melts frozen items, reveals hidden objects and helps plants, on which the healthy maintenance of man's and animals lives critically depend, to produce their food and thrive. As great as the sunlight may be useful to the world, Jesus offers to the world a light that is incomparably greater in power and relevance to human life.
Our text opens with the deity of Jesus. He is the Eternal One who coexists with the Father. He is the Word, the Creator and the Light. As the Eternal One, He lives forever. As the Creator, He made all things. As the Light, He shines in darkness, and as the Word, He sustains the universe. Christ, the Light is so bright that all the darkness in the world put together cannot overcome Him. John was sent to bear witness of that "Light that lighteth every man that cometh into the world" (John 1:9). The Light the Jews have rejected is being offered to as many as desire to become children of God.
A world without Christ is a dark one. Darkness obscures the truth, breeds corruption and evil. God, in His love, does not want us to grope any longer nor stumble in the dark; hence Jesus, the Light of the world has been revealed. As the rays of sunlight melt the thickest of ice, so does the light of Christ melt the mountains of men's sins if allowed to shine in their hearts. While many reject the light, others are pleased with just a spark from a matchstick.
We all have a choice. Which do you prefer: To remain in the dark or come into the light of Christ? He is the One that "lighteth every man that cometh into the world." Come to the Light today.

A man puts his heart on what he treasures most. He carries it in his heart, sleeps and wakes with it and goes about with it day and night.
Nehemiah's patriotism and fervent love for the holy land was undoubtedly deep in his heart. This virtue was more evident in his passion and quest for information concerning Jerusalem.
Even though he appeared to have lived all his life in exile, Nehemiah loved the holy city, Jerusalem, and was in waiting expectation of a return to the homeland to help remove the reproach of the broken down walls.
Nehemiah's comfortable position in Shushan, the palace, did not reduce his interest and commitment to Jerusalem. When he met the new arrivals from Jerusalem in the palace, Nehemiah's enquiry concerning the state of the inhabitants and of the city itself revealed a heart burdened for the people of God. He appeared to have no other burden outside his necessary daily duties but this.
No wonder the Lord sent those men his way to satisfy his heart that was longing and praying for the city. If we lay up in our hearts such intense yearning and desire for God and His word as Nehemiah did toward Jerusalem and its people, we would become recipients of His grace, holiness and great power in not too long a time.
We fail to receive definite inspirations and answers to prayers because we are filled more with earthly cares and not His word or His way. Bad dreams, evil thoughts, fear, defeats, etc.
Do not abide in a heart like that of Nehemiah. If our hearts will always look heavenward, our visions shall be of the Lord of glory, of service, of victory and great possibilities.

*"Key Verse: "For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it" (Proverbs 8:11)."*
If men would prioritize on seeking true wisdom than they search for money and worldly possession, our world would be the better for it. The discovery of Solomon, the wisest man in the Old Testament who spent all his life amassing wealth and earthly possessions that all amount to vanity presents a great lesson from the text.
"Wisdom is better than rubies " he declared. Wisdom, instruction and knowledge of God are to be preferred above silver and gold. Wisdom gives strength and discretion that makes the possessor act right. It saves from self conceit, pride, arrogance and delusion. Wisdom delivers and preserves one from evil and equips the possessor with creative abilities for better living. While wealth does not make one wise, wisdom brings greater riches. This is why it is preferable. The source of wisdom matters.
Wisdom that manifests in sinful attitude to outwit others or destroy them is devilish and undesirable. Life-enriching wisdom flows from only one source, Jesus Christ, who is Wisdom personified. To have this wisdom, one has to be willing to empty oneself of self conceit, deception and perversion. There must be the willingness to turn away from all worldly wisdom which focuses only on self. In humility, you must accept your folly, admit your nothingness and be willing to be made rich by Christ. This simply requires true repentance and simple faith in the Lord Jesus.
Besides, you need to continue to abide in Christ and take the Bible as your most valued asset on earth. The more you read it, the wiser you become. You also need to constantly draw from the deep knowledge and wisdom of God's appointed ministers in corporate fellowship and Bible study so as to continue to grow.
If men in the world make a lot of sacrifices in search of perishable riches, we need to do more to get divine wisdom which is far better than gold!

*TEXT: GENESIS 1:14-19*

TITLE: CHRIST’S SUPREME LOVE AND TIMELY WARNING

TEXT: Matthew 7:15

“Beware of false prophets.” Our Lord, Jesus Christ, is the good Shepherd and His warning is to make His sheep to be watchful. He does not want to lose any of His own to “ravening wolves.” “Beware” – be watchful, be on your guard, take warning. In sounding this alarm and giving this warning, Christ was motivated by perfect love on the basis of His perfect knowledge. There would be no warning if there were no danger. Knowing the presence of false prophets even at His own time and foreseeing the rise of teachers of damnable error in our time, He gave this warning over and over. The Apostles have also given us the same warning. “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders. Behold, I have told you before. After my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Therefore watch. For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers. But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways. Beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness” (Matthew 7:15; 16:6; 24:11,24,25; Acts 20:29-31; 2 Corinthians 11:13; Philippians 3:2; 2 Peter 2:1,2; 3:17).

“Beware of false prophets.” If it was a necessary warning at the time of Christ and the Apostles, it is a much-needed warning today. Satan, the world and the flesh are not the only dangers in the way of the believer; there is another great danger: false prophets – wolves in sheep’s clothing. Beware, watch and be on your guard.

1. CHRIST’S WARNING CONCERNING FALSE PROPHETS
Matthew 7:15; 16:6-12; 24:4,5,11-13,24,25; Jeremiah 14:14; 23:21-32; Deuteronomy 13:1-11; 2 Corinthians 11:2-4,11-13; Galatians 1:6-10; 2 Peter 2:1-3; 1 John 4:1; Jude 4,12-19; Revelation 22:16-19.

Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, the great King and true Prophet, the faithful Teacher Who came from God, had just described the narrow way of life and righteousness that leads to heaven and the broad way of sin and self that leads to perdition. Then, He immediately gave the warning and sounded the alarm: “Beware of false prophets.” The chief aim of false prophets is to deceive us and point us to the wrong way, thereby leading us astray. They call good evil and paint evil as good. They encourage people to walk in the broad way that leads to hell and discourage them from walking in the narrow way that leads to heaven. The warning was necessary for sinners who were already accustomed to the broad way, sinners who were thoughtless about spiritual matters, sinners who took religious deceivers as their final authority, sinners who entrusted the eternal destiny of their souls into the hands of ignorant leaders in religion. This warning is needed by awakened sinners on the verge of decision, sinners who are concerned about their spiritual welfare, who are asking what to do in order to have eternal life. Which way should they turn – to the right or to the left; to the narrow way or to the broad way? Which people should they identify with – the multitude on the broad way or the few on the narrow way? The warning must be taken to heart by new converts who have just repented and believed in Christ, by believers who are suffering persecution, by christians who are under pressure to reconsider their commitment to Christ, by disciples who are feeling the weight of the cross they bear, by preachers of the gospel who are not popular with the world and whose lone voice is almost being drowned by multitudes of world-acclaimed preachers. “Beware of false prophets.” For the sake of souls, take heed.

2. CRAFTY WOLVES CLOTHED AS FAITHFUL PROPHETS
Matthew 7:15; Ezekiel 22:25-27; Acts 20:28-31;1 Kings 13:11-24; 2 Chronicles 18:4-11,28-34; Isaiah 9:13-16; 44:20; Jeremiah 28:10-15;2 Thessalonians 2:10-12; 2 Timothy 2:17,18; Revelation 2:14-16; 20:10-15.

“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” Beware of wolves in sheep’s clothing. Appearance can be very deceptive. Gifts without grace, charisma without character, love without light, tenderness without truth, hospitality without holiness, worship without the Word, eloquence without enlightenment, fellowship without food for the soul, faith without faithfulness, prosperity without purity, success without salvation, revelation without righteousness, can be very deceptive in religion. Beware of ravening wolves in sheep’s clothing, destructive adversaries clothed with dazzling affection, dangerous friends (foes) clothed as delightful friends, poisonous serpents clothed as peaceful saints, cruel tormentors clothed as compassionate teachers, wicked murderers clothed as winsome messengers, determined destroyers clothed as devoted defenders. Beware, wolves are still wolves inwardly, whatever be the outward pretence or polish. Even when they pretend and pose as shepherds, they are looking for sheep to devour, not to defend, protect or feed. Jesus said, beware.

3. CONCEALED WICKEDNESS OF FALSE PROPHETS
Matthew 7:15; 23:13-15; Luke 11:44; Job 20:12-14; Psalm 10:8-10; Jeremiah 23:11-14; Acts 8:9-11,18-23; 13:6-12; 2 Peter 2:17-20; Revelation 2:20-26; Proverbs 19:27; Romans 16:17,18.

False prophets come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Be wise and be watchful. Look beyond their outward appearance, deep beneath the outward, pleasing personality. Watch and listen to the witness of the Holy Spirit, examine the fruit of their lives and evaluate the fruit of their labour. Beware, lest you throw your soul into the claws and jaws of a ravening wolf because of an untested assumption that you are entrusting your soul to a good and faithful shepherd. Deception, eternally dangerous deception is the trade of Satan and his servants and false prophets – at their best, really, at their worst. False prophets so conceal and hide their wickedness and cleverly proclaim error as truth that even elites and educated people in different areas of life and discipline are easily deceived. Scientists and philosophers, the mighty and the wealthy, the intelligent and the wise, the educated and the civilized, the religious and the zealot, the secular mind and even the spiritual man have been deceived by false prophets in the past, in all generations and in this generation. If we are to escape the false prophets’ deception and the damnation it brings, we must diligently watch. We must be constantly guided by the Holy Spirit and the Scripture. Beware, watch, take heed.

*TEXT: JUDGES 11:29-40*
