Titilayodeji13: The campaign train of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) came under
attack at Ilesa rally, as PDP candidate in
the forthcoming August 9 governorship
election in Osun, Senator Iyiola Omisore
and other PDP party leaders narrowly
escaped death.
Our Correspondent reports that SSS
officers attached to Sen. Omisore were
injured in the attack. Also, the vehicle
conveying the party chairman, Alh Gani
Olaoluwa was badly smashed though both
Omisore and other party Chiefs escaped
unhurt.
The attack was allegedly led by the “state
boys”, a group of political thugs working
for the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The Director of media and strategy of
Omisore’s campaign organization, Mr
Diran Odeyemi said in a statement that it
was APC supporters that instigated the
violence.
His words: “Since the commencement of
our rallies, we have not recorded any
violence or breach of the peace. You will
recall that Aregbesola had said at
different campaign fora that Osun would
march on blood if he fails to win the
August 9 governorship poll.”
“Out of desperation to win at all costs,
Aregbesola had on four occasions called
on voters to go to polling booths with
charms and weapons and that they should
also confront soldiers in defending their
votes. So, what happened in Ilesa today
may be a signpost of their planned
violence before, during and after August 9,
2014.”

ANYONE DRIVING TINTED GLASS VEHICLES WITHOUT PERMIT NOW RISK A FINE OF N50,000 OR A SIX-MONTH JAIL TERM OR BOTH.

This was as a result of the final passage by the Senate, on Thursday, the Bill for an Act to amend the Motor Vehicle (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act aimed at checking indiscriminate use of tinted glass vehicles without approval.

The options of fine, jail term or both were contained in the bill, first read on the floor on April 18, 2013 and sponsored by Senator Ita Enang.

The decision of the Senate followed the adoption and approval of the report of its joint committee on Police Affairs and Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters on the bill.

The chairman of the joint committee, Senator Paulinus Nwagwu, said the bill “seeks essentially, to amend the extant law in order to check indiscriminate use of tinted glass vehicles which beat security checks and carry out nefarious activities.”

Nwagwu said the need for the bill arose, following the reactions of Nigerians to the recent announcement by the Nigeria Police of its intention to arrest and prosecute Nigerians driving cars with tinted glass.

He said it was, therefore, necessary to let Nigerians know that the police was not trying to introduce a new law but was merely trying to enforce an already existing Regulations 66 (2) of the National Traffic Regulations of 1997 and the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act.

Nwagwu said the Motor Vehicle (Prohibition of Tinted Glass ) Act Amendment Bill 2013 was thus sponsored to, among others, amend the enabling act with a view to streamlining it with the present realities.

“The bill also seeks to address the persisting injustice meted out to Nigerians through embarrassment and harassment, which constitutes a serious affront to the fundamental rights of Nigerians against discrimination as enshrined under Section 42 of the Constitution,” he added.

He said various stakeholders, during the public hearing on the bill, had emphasized the need to address current upsurge in terrorism and other crimes like kidnapping, child trafficking.

The bill, among other provisions, requested buyers of imported vehicles with tinted, shaded, coloured, darkened or treated glass to change it to transparent ones within 14 days from the date of arrival in Nigeria or date of purchase.

In the alternative, it stipulated that buyers of such vehicles should request for a permit for the use of such tinted glass vehicles from the Office of the Inspector General of Police, anywhere in the country, within 90 days of importing the vehicle.

Pastor disappears after auto crash in Osun

Online report obtained via VANGUARD NIGERIA stated that anxiety is mounting over the sudden disappearance of the General Overseer of Christ Worshippers Church with headquarters at Osubi, Effurun, Warri, Delta State Prophet Duromola Adedayo Samuel.

One source said Prophet Duromola might have met his death in a ghastly auto crash that occurred, yesterday, between 6.00 p.m and 8.00 p.m. along Akure-Ilesa expressway.

But another source said he might also have been a victim of kidnap.

A source in Ikeji Arakeji area where the crash occurred disclosed that after the crash and the vehicle veered into the bush, they tried to give a helping hand but did not meet anybody inside the vehicle with the number plate already removed.

Osun State police command spokesperson, Mrs Folasade Odoro, said there was no official report to that effect while family members from Owo, Ondo State claimed that they had gone to various hospitals in Owena, Ikeji-Arakeji, Ipetu-Ijesa, Ilesa as his whereabout was still unknown at press time.

According to the family members on search party, the vehicle was found but the prophet was not found, adding that no blood stain or anything curious was noticed at the scene of the accident.

Elder Boro, a member of the Board of Trustees of the church in a telephone interview said Prophet Samuel phone rang throughout the night without response.

He added that may be he was praying on the mountain in Ilesa.

This was corroborated by Pastor Paul Opoweh, the Prophet’s personal assistant, who said efforts to reach him on phone proved abortive.

When the wife, Prophetess Eseoghene Blessing Duromola was contacted, she said Prophet Sanuel went to a mountain at Ilesa, with a promise to return to Akure to pick her and the children to Warri for the end of the year vigil but that did not happen.
