TravelRe: Asylum Seekers, Is This TRUE? by Hope1201: 12:56pm On Oct 07, 2025
Yes you have to be in the country 1st. So if you want to apply to Italy for asylum you have to be in Italy. There are a small few international charities in Nigeria who help people leave if they feel your reason to apply for asylum is genuine. They dont advertise it but do do it.
TravelRe: Is Ireland A Good Country To Migrate To?? by Hope1201: 12:53pm On Oct 07, 2025
I am in Ireland. Ireland is a good country especially compared to a lot of other countries. That being said there is a housing crisis so be prepared to have to share a house or apartment, if you are attending college there is a lot of new student accommodation being built which is good. Cost of living is high I believe its highest in europe but saying that I was in Nigeria over summer period and while some things are cheaper some are also more expensive especially in Lagos.
Visa Process can be tough they will pick at everything.
Racism to be honest there isnt much compared to other countries. Infact there was very little until recent years. At the moment there is an asylum seekers issue going on, a lot of men coming from certain and doing bad things to women and kids and fighting so you will see protests and certain things online this is mainly in Dublin and tbh even the Irish dont want to live in Dublin anymore its fine for a visit at most. Cork is a good city for college and work opportunities while also remaining friendly. Most people are friendly and good fun so I would advise being welcome to making friends outside of the black community. Also a big warning be prepared for the cold you will get use to it quickly but make sure your wardrobe is ready for it, business and life carries on despite heavy rain and wind. In September flu vaccines are rolled out i would advise to get one if can. Meanwhile irish summers can feel hotter than Nigeria at certain times. I've met many people who moved to Ireland 20+ years ago and love it. If you get a chance to go, do.

Can someone please give a direction on how to get a slot for booking of appointment at vfs lagos. Almost 5days now, is not scaling through. It keeps showing no slot available for appointment.
If you are trying to book using your phone try on a laptop and also try using different browsers. I had many issues trying to book vis phone. Also needs good Internet.

Please, do you know anyone here, who submitted an Appeal this year to the Embassy of Ireland, Abuja and got a feedback?

If yes; how long did it take?

Did you get a mail on the appeal decision?

Mine is Employment Visa
Appealed a visit visa took 8 weeks. Yes they explained reason for refusal. They really do pick very tiny things and reason for deny on appeal was not mentioned on original refusal.
