Bayelsa Local Government Workers Decry Delay in New Minimum Wage Implementation

Local government workers in Bayelsa State have expressed their frustration over the delayed implementation of the new minimum wage.
According to the workers, while state employees have been enjoying the benefits for close to five years, it took the government four years and ten months to implement a mere 30 percent for local government staff.

Describing the situation as unjust, the workers lamented that the disparity creates a divide among civil servants in the state. They argued that it is unfair for one category of workers to enjoy the benefits of government policies while others are left to struggle.

"Are we still called civil servants or volunteer servants?" one worker questioned, reflecting the growing sense of neglect and dissatisfaction among the group.

The workers demanded that the state government ensure equity in the implementation of policies, emphasizing that when state employees are enjoying 80 percent of the minimum wage benefits, the same should apply to local government workers.

They concluded that the current disparity undermines their dedication and sacrifices, calling on the government to correct this injustice and treat all civil servants equally.
