The former Interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Bisi Akande, has blamed the current economic crisis in Nigeria on the military incursion into politics and governance. This, he said, had entrenched a culture of laziness, corruption and lawlessness into many Nigerians. Akande said this in a speech he delivered on Wednesday in Otan Ayegbaju, Osun State during the inauguration of a block of 10 classrooms which the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) named after him. Akande, who is also a former governor of Osun State, said missionary schools were institutions for moral instructions before the military forcefully took them over from their original owners. He explained that the takeover of missionary schools by the military laid the foundation for the collapse of morals in schools and eventual emergence of leaders of questionable characters. He said, “Therefore to take over schools from the missionaries is equivalent to an attempt to expunge morality from the lives of the Nigerian children. “Military intervention in governance itself is immoral and ungodly. Those Nigerian military adventurists, who forcefully seized power in Nigeria deliberately, came to violently loot our resources. “In order to lay the foundation for their stupendous immorality and corruption, the military had to snatch schools’ from the missionaries and retired men and women with some moral credentials who were old products of the missionary schools. “Consequently, today, fraudsters, drug barons, thugs and vagabonds compete effectively and successfully to displace gentlemen and women of moral integrity from the leadership space. “The overall result of the military interventions in governance in our polity is the pain Nigeria suffers today from lawless and lackadaisical attitude of everybody to work. The resultant effect of the populaces criminal attitude to work is a major plank providing the bedrock for the ongoing economic recession in our country.” He said the way forward was for missionaries to run schools side by side with other educational stakeholders in order to enable them to a produce future players in the labour market. Akande also urged governments at all levels to grant aid to the missionaries to the tune of tuition fees payable by pupils in public schools. The Bishop of Osun North East Diocese of the Anglican Church, Rt. Revd. Humphrey Olumakaiye, had earlier in his speech appealed to the Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, to return schools to their original owners before the end of his second term in office. Olumakaiye said this would ensure good academic quality and restoration of morals to the schools. The Archbishop Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria ( Anglican Communion) Most Revd. Nicholas Okoh, said in his speech that there was hope that Nigeria could still be great despite the problems confronting it. Source=https://punchng.com/bisi-akande-blames-recession-military-rule/

21 Chibok girls that were kidnapped by the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist group have been released. According to BBC, the girls were released in the early hours of Thursday, October 13. More than 200 girls were abducted from their schools in Borno state in 2014 by the terrorists and while some of them have reportedly died, the rest have been held by the dreaded group. A government source revealed that the terrorists dropped the girls in the Banki area of Borno state where they were subsequently picked up by military helicopter. The release of the girls comes a few months after the group called on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government to release its fighters in exchange for the girls. The identity of the released girls cannot be ascertained yet while it is not clear if Boko Haram fighters arrested by security operatives were exchanged for the girls. Here are five don’ts of wedding attendance. 1. Stick Your Finger in the Cake Sticking finger in wedding cake no matter how nice the cake looks try to control your sweet toothy self. Whether your are caught or not, it is bad manners of completely unhygienic. 2. Don’t wear white Woman attending wedding in white flowing dress Yes that white dress makes you look like a million bucks but do you really wants to steal the show from the bride? Its her day, let her be the center of attention. Don’t appear looking like the bride or better than the bride. 3. Get hammered and start drama Keep it classy. Don’t go over your usual drinking limit out of excitement. Worse than that is getting drunk and turning into a complete disaster at the wedding. Stay away from unnecessary drama and don’t be the reason people start employing body guards for their special day. 4. Wear something you would wear to The Club Going to a wedding half naked is one of the biggest don’ts in the history of wedding ceremonies. Except you were invited for a stripper gig in which case, you in a nut people’s wedding and you should exit before they ask you to give the officiating minister a lap dance. 5. Ask Dj to change the music It is just plain rude to ask the DJ to change the music especially when every other person on the dance floor is moving to the tune. Except if you paid for the DJ and even at that, you should let him do his job instead of distracting him. And lastly, do not Bring the bride’s ex as a guest. The special assistant to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan on new media, Reno Omokri, has said despite his endless criticism on President Muhammadu Buhari, he prays for him twice daily. The Cable reports that Omokri, who is also a pastor, said critiquing an individual does not mean you hate them. He added that the Bible is not against reprimanding leaders, as the president might be unaware of the happenings in the country. Omokri added that the president needs people to tell him the issues affecting the country as he might be oblivious to them. In a video posted on his Facebook page, Omokri said: “People have been asking some questions about why I was criticising President Buhari. It’s as if a lot of people don’t understand what is happening. “They say ‘Reno you are a pastor, you are not meant to criticise the president. The Bible says you should pray for our leaders’. This is simply a case of misunderstanding what the Bible is talking about. “I pray for president Buhari every single day. The Lord is my witness. May the Lord punish me if I’m lying. I shouldn’t be saying this. I’m being forced to say this because of the email I have been getting. I pray for him twice a day — morning and night. “That is what the Bible says but the Bible did not say we should not criticise our leaders. If you read the Bible, Jesus in (Luke 13 vs 32) criticised King Herod. “In 2nd Samuel 12 vs 1-14, Nathan the prophet criticised David. Before then, Samuel himself criticised Saul in 1st Kings chapter 17 and 18. Source=https://www.naij.com/1004993-unbelievable-reno-omokri-secretly-buhari.html?source=category_latest_page

Hundreds of ex-Niger Delta militants on Tuesday protested the alleged non-payment of their stipends by the Federal Government. The protesting ex-militants began the demonstration at about 7am, blocking the Mbiama section of the East-West Road, which links the South-South region to the South-East. Their protest paralyzed vehicular movement even as pedestrians could not use the road. Not a few motorists were trapped on the road during the protest. Respite, however, came the way of the trapped motorists when a detachment of soldiers of the Joint Military Task Force in the Niger Delta, Operation Delta Safe, stormed the scene and dispersed the protesters. The troops later stormed the scene around 7:30am in two patrol vans and dismantled the barricades erected by the protesters. The soldiers fired several warning shots into the air which created confusion among the protesters, forcing them to scamper for safety in different directions. It was, however, learnt that one of the protesting ex- militants was allegedly hit by a stray bullet. An ex-militant, Mr. Elliot Seimiebo, accused the soldiers of using firearms to disperse a peaceful protest aimed at drawing the attention of the Federal Government to the plight of the militants. Seimiebo said, “We had renounced violence and remained peaceful in all our approaches. Our intention was to draw attention to the non-payment of our stipends for four months. “We were not armed but the soldiers turned their weapons on us and there was confusion as people ran in all directions. One of the protesters was hit by a stray bullet in the leg.” When contacted, spokesperson for Operation Delta Safe, Lt.-Cmdr. Thomas Otuji, said that no protester was shot. Otuji said, “Our troops were sent to the scene to restore traffic flow and they went there to clear the barricade on the East-West Road. “And there is no such report at my disposal as we speak. The protesters were professionally dispersed.” Also, the Liaison Officer at the Amnesty Office in Yenagoa, Mr. Piriye Kirayamo, said that efforts were under way to pay the backlog of stipends owed the militants. “We have been in discussion with the ex-militants and have been appealing to them to remain calm. The office is doing everything possible to ensure that their stipends are paid,” Kiyaramo said. Source = http://punchng.com/unpaid-stipends-ex-militants-protest-yenagoa-jtf-injures-one/
