met this local girl in a village at benue state where I am currently doing my youth service. as you can see the relevance of oil is dropping everyday, the world is moving on gradually everyday. the south-south people are a lazy bunch who only drink ogogoro and say na our oyel.

What I have noticed since joining Nairaland is that, people have many reasons ( some of them hidden) for asking whatever question(s) they ask. Not impossible for someone that has just lost a well-paid job in the oil and gas sector to come here and say derogatory things about the Niger Delta. How else does one interpret a question like this by this OP? For generations, over 90% of our revenue in Nigeria have been coming from SS and whatever good we have done today as a nation is made possible by that fact. In fact, if Niger-Deltans have been Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa/Fulani, they would have separated from Nigeria long time ago. Every generation defines its own struggle, that is why the first and second generations of Niger Deltans did what they thought was the right thing to do: agitating peacefully for the betterment of their people. Nigerians murdered them! So the generation that followed decided to take up arms to fight for what rightly belong to them, they have been successful and have now moved on to relying on politics and the rule of law as a tool for channeling their grievances.
OP has described himself as an hungryman; that should be a clue, shouldn`t it?.
In the history of Nigeria, the Niger Deltans are the only people that have given the best accounts of themselves, which-ever way we slice it; they don`t just produce the first Ph.D President Nigeria ever had, but the first to respect the electoral process in a way no-one has ever respected it in the history of our country.
What we need in our country today is unity and prosperity, we can only achieve that by taking intelligent political decisions. Nigeria should be providing leadership for Africa, but that won`t happen through tribal bashing. This thread is a mistake and I hope the OP can apologise for starting it. If not, then tell us which region of Nigeria you come from and what personal reason(s) you have for starting this insulting thread.

Is like saying King Solomon does not deserve to be king because he inherited it unlike his father David who fought for it.

Even though i agree having oil is not enough reason for us to be lazy and be drinking ogogoro as u put it, but asking what we contribute to Nigeria is an insult. Yes i will prefer we behave like Texas people in the United State and Russians, who despite the massive crude oil in thier state and country respectively, still work hard in Farming, manufacturing, technology,etc.

But coming to Nigeria, we have some great South South sons and dauggters who has created thousand of Job in Nigeria. We have Jim Ivia of zenith bank. We have elumelu of UBA. We have the Ibrus of Ghandian and former oceanic bank now ecobank. We have AIG Imuokhoede of Access Bank.

Even in d North, Most of the agriculture comes from North Central/Middle Belt. Actually as far as i am concern, middle belt is neither north nor south. I consider them Hybrid of both.

Even d laziness you are talking about, i believe is even national rather than south south people in particular. The whole country is lazy because of oil.

in the south-West the Yorubas are know for their intellectual capabilities which makes them out standing in the corporate world, in the south-east the igbos are known for their business and entrepreneurship mind set, northern Nigeria is well known for agriculture, they arguably feed the nation. please what are the people of the south-south known for other than saying "na our oyel" so because one has oil they should just fold their hands and sit down doing nothing but drinking ogogoro all day long.
