Hello there, Do you guys know (from experience or otherwise) how to activate an MTN prepaid to use fo roaming in the UK? Does it even work? Like, can I take my MTN prepaid sim to London and use it? How can I activate it? If not, what other nigerian prepaid network sim allows for roaming in the UK? Help please ![]() |

Owu Gal, Good luck with everything and hopefully you are contributing in your own little/big way to making this "toilet country" become even a much better one. Well, Bye! To everyone else, tradeways is NOT cheap. Just slightly cheaper than UPS. I cant seem to get DHL rates anyhere and the Lagos number I have keeps ringing. I'm sold on UPS anyway. |
Anyway thanks everyone. It seems UPS has the most votes. I hope they do me well o. |
Owu gal, Nobody said Nigeria was perfect but it's hardly the "toilet" picture you paint it. Follow world news? Read what 's going on in Dafur, Korea or Zimbabwe recently? I know many business men/women in Nigeria and people who keep working to make it a better place. I have achieved and seen people achieve a lot, maybe it's just the crowd you are used to? ![]() I have lived (still live) both abroad and in Nigeria. And whilst the economy is "better" abroad, it still has it's fair share of issues, and dont for one second think organized crime, legal thieves/thugs and corporate drug distribution don't exist there. You'd be HIGHLY mistaken. We still have a long way to go, and so does the whole world. Finally, carry go and stop derailing my thread, this woman ![]() |
MrCrackles:Ofe! ![]() |
Owu gal:I like your sarcasm sha, true talk . ![]() The armed robbery issue is however a huge dilema. It's so sad how rampant it is. |
ohaechesi:Nah, mate. It woudnt make any sense for me to have mentioned EMS if that was the case, but I am pretty sure you are pulling my legs ![]() |
ohaechesi:Funny guy Afi good fellow na. Na only good fellow, una never jam 419 fellow kwa? ![]() I am not so sure when last I heard DHL/FEDEX went on strike, but if and when they do, as a business person, our job is to find alternative measures. Alternative measures could include leveraging a few willing drivers (people who own cars and dont mind making some extra bucks) for deliveries or negotiating customer collection of their own packages with the a discount off the total merchandise as an incentive. No long thing, as an enterpreneur, I am always one step ahead ![]() |
Owu gal:What did you think they use ? Smoke signal? See this one. ![]() |
Thank you everyone. Kai, that DHL/Fedex/UPS will be expensive o, my poor customers I've heard Tradeways are also very good, but I dont know. I'll call them tomorrow for quotes I've never heard about these bus/drive courier sha, e dey do me one kind. ![]() So EMS is a definate no? ![]() |
Someone also mentioned Nipost Parcel Post. http://www.nipostparcelpost.com/Rates.aspx Seems very cheap but I dey fear for it's reliability sha. |
Let's say I want to ship small packages (to residential addresses - no more than 3kg per package) from Lagos to other parts of Nigeria quite frequently (maybe 30 packages a week) - which courier company/service can deliver within 2 days max & is affordable but reliable? A friend suggested EMS Speedpost Economy. http://www.emsng.com/tariff-ems.htm Any thoughts and/or other suggestions? Reliability to deliver within 2 days is a MUST. |
Common people, your opinions would help. ![]() |
Thank you topup ! I understand your point completely. We are based in Nigeria so we have chosen products with little/no competition in Nigeria. I know that will differ from the UK and US ![]() More contribution welcome! |

Nigerians, just as with any consumer, will purchase goods online if it was available, reliable, economical, informative and secure Available - Online Nigerian shops are few and far between. The few I have found online are not promoted or marketed. The ones that are known via social networks rarely have a decent web presence or integrated payment facilities. If I cannot pay on your website using my bank issued DEBIT card , or can only pay by making a trip to the bank or buying prepaid visa cards - I might find it too complicated & I might not want to buy from your site. Invest in a web programmer, integrate payment systems such as Interswitch Webpay that accepts Nigerian Debit Cards and I might feel like buying something from your website. Reliable - Are you reliable? If a customer tries to contact you by email or phone to ask a question, will you be reached immediately? Do you deliver goods within the timescale stated on your website? Is your website always 'down'? Are all he links on your website working? Economical - Is your product affordable. Can you compete with Market prices? Is it good value for money? It will be hard for me to pass on a TM Lewin shirt sold online in your shop for N6,500 plus free delivery. Are your prices better whilst still retaining quality and making profit Secure - Can I tust your website to keep my personal information private? Are the pages secured by a ssl certificate? Have you put measures in place to combat fraud (such as only delivering goods to the card's registered address and requesting proof of ID if need be )? Informative - Does your website have an online presence? Is it marketed? Do the Nigerians on facebook, nairaland, naijapals etc know about you? Do you use your website and Newsletters to update customers weekly? Are the prices displayed clearly? Is there a FAQ page that answers all questions I may have about shopping on your site? An online business in Nigeria is possible, but it is by no means an easy feat. |
I asked a friend to help me ask at a GTB branch and apparently, its N50,000 to open a domiciliary account (or N10,000 for a current account). Can someone confirm this? Thanks. |
