Business / Using Innovative Thinking To Generate Business Ideas by iafatok(m): 1:15am On Nov 23, 2013
Introduction

We all have some level of inherent innovative thinking skills. As with other activities, you can teach yourself how to think in an innovative manner. Sometimes innovative thinking requires us to look at things from new perspectives. Learn to unleash your inventive genius by thinking backwards. Innovative thinking is a willingness to think beyond what is and envision what could be. All it requires is knowledge, Ingenuity and Focus.

Elements of Innovative Thinking
-Unexpected Occurrences
-Incongruities
-Process Needs
-Industry and Market Changes
-Demographic Changes
-Changes in Perception
-New Knowledge

Sources of Innovative Thinking
-State of Mind: Creativity is a state of mind. Telling yourself or others "I'm not very creative," or "I can never come up with new or clever ideas," destroys that state of mind. Innovative thinking requires positive thinking.

-Environment: All of our senses -- what we see, hear, feel, taste, and touch -- influence our state of mind. A positive atmosphere contributes to a positive and innovative state of mind.
Some people thrive in loud, people-filled areas with much activity. Others need quiet and calm to think clearly and innovatively. Find that place, noisy or quiet, that makes you feel comfortable.

-Engange Yourself: Daydreaming, relaxation, and free association allow the mind to come up with new or unusual ideas or idea fragments.

-Determination: Creativity takes practice. Your creativity is there within you, but you must make a habit of using your imagination.
Although many of your best ideas will come when you "aren't really concentrating," you can make them happen more often by regularly practicing effective thinking techniques.

-Record Your Ideas: Ideas and thoughts are fleeting and unless you catch them immediately, they will be lost. There's no way to predict when a great idea is likely to pop into your mind so you must be prepared at all times to record them. Once you have established the habit of idea recording you will be surprised at how many good ideas you actually think of each day

How to Generate Business Ideas through Innovative Thinking:
· Start a Business that revolves around your innate ability:
Innate abilities help you do things with ease. Often times I hear people say, “what do you have flair for?” Innate abilities help you do things better, quickly and ‘naturally’ than others. It helps you do things effortlessly!

One great thing about your innate ability is that it pushes you, not the other way round. Looking for business ideas? It’s in you!

· Turn Your Experience or knowledge into a Profitable Venture:

Instead of asking, “Which business can i start that will bring quick profit?”, turn your hands-on experience or knowledge into a profitable venture!

An entrepreneur is one who is able to make commerce of his ideas, experience, knowledge and ability and make good profit.

What do you know? Which skill have you acquired recently? What education have you gained? What experience have you acquired? Do you know that there are people out there waiting to be served what you have?

· Take Advantage of Technology, Situations & Opportunities

Ads not by this site
Have you heard about the story of two guys who travelled to a certain country where those who lived there wore no shoes? One of them saw an opportunity in this situation, got back to his home country, ordered a large consignment of different sizes of shoes, and exported them to the country where the people there wore no shoes. He sold more shoes than he bargained for! This is a typical example of taking advantage of situations.
There are several situations around that you need to shine your eyes at!

The 21st century business terrain has seen business operations move from manual– to technology-based. If you are tech-savvy, you could consider starting a business that revolves around helping businesses transform their operations and marketing. Taking up some information technology short courses or training may be of help also.

Conclusion

Today’s managers are full of ideas, theories and information. They have extraordinary knowledge and expertise. They are highly skilled at traditional business thinking. Yet many feel uncertain and unmoored. They find planning for next quarter a tough challenge, never mind committing to decisions that will play out over one to five years. They continually ask themselves what is the new process, the innovative product, the game-changing service, the compelling vision. One senior executive recently told me, “We’ve lost our crystal ball.” The questions you need to ask yourself are one or all of the followings:
· What’s Something I Could Do That’s Really Extreme?
· What Could We Add To Something We Already Do To Make It More Extraordinary?
· What Could We Strip Away From What We Already Do?
· What Ideas Could We Take From Other Industries and Apply To Ours?
· What Could We Steal From Competitors and Make A Slight Change To?
· What Will They Be Doing In Our Industry In 20 Years?

What constitutes ethical behaviour varies from one person to another, from industry to industry.... For example one person who finds 20 millions of naira on the floor believes that it is okay to stick it in his pocket, whereas another feels compelled to turn it in to the lost-and-found department.

Business / Effective And Efficient Problem Solving Techniques: Small Scale Business by iafatok(m): 2:39am On Nov 07, 2013
Effective and Efficient Problem Solving techniques: Small Scale Business Perspective

Background to Effective and Efficient Problem Solving techniques:
With as many problems as we are all faced with in our work and life, it seems as if there is never enough time to solve each one without dealing with some adversity along the way. Problems keep mounting so fast that we find ourselves taking short-cuts to temporarily alleviate the tension points – so we can move onto the next problem. In the process of Effective and Efficient Problem Solving, we fail to solve the core of each problem we are dealt; thus we continuously get caught in the trap of a never-ending cycle that makes it difficult to find any real resolutions.
Effective and Efficient Problem Solving is the essence of what leaders exist to do. As leaders, the goal is to minimize the occurrence of problems – which means we must be courageous enough to tackle them head-on before circumstances force our hand. We must be resilient in our quest to create and sustain momentum for the organization and people we serve. But the reality of the workplace finds us dealing with people that complicate matters with their corporate politicking, self-promotion, power-plays and ploys, and envy. Silos, lack of budgets and resources, and many other random acts or circumstances also make it harder for people to be productive.
Competitors equally create problems for us when they unexpectedly convert a long-standing client, establish a new industry relationship, or launch a new product, brand or corporate strategy. Mergers & acquisitions keep us on our toes and further distract us from solving existing problems by creating new ones.

As Karl Popper, one of the most influential 20thcentury philosophers of science, once eloquently stated, “All life is problem solving.” I’ve often contended that the best leaders are the best problem solvers. They have the patience to step back and see the problem at-hand through broadened observation; circular vision. They see around, beneath and beyond the problem itself. They see well-beyond the obvious. The most effective leaders approach problems through a lens of opportunity.
Leaders who lack this wisdom approach problems with linear vision – thus only seeing the problem that lies directly in front of them and blocking the possibilities that lie within the problem. As such, they never see the totality of what the problem represents; that it can actually serve as an enabler to improve existing best practices, protocols and standard operating procedures for growing and competing in the marketplace. They never realize that, in the end, all problems are the same – just packaged differently.

A leader must never view a problem as a distraction, but rather as a strategic enabler for continuous improvement and opportunities previously unseen.
Whether you are a leader for a large corporation or a small business owner, here are Effective and Efficient Problem Solving techniques.
1. Transparent Communication
Problem solving requires transparent communication where everyone’s concerns and points of view are freely expressed. I’ve seen one too many times how difficult it is to get to the root of the matter in a timely manner when people do not speak-up.

Yes, communication is a fundamental necessity. That is why when those involved in the problem would rather not express themselves – fearing they may threaten their job and/or expose their own or someone else’s wrong-doing – the problem solving process becomes a treasure hunt. Effective communication towards problem solving happens because of a leader’s ability to facilitate an open dialogue between people who trust her intentions and feel that they are in a safe environment to share why they believe the problem happened as well as specific solutions.
Once all voices have been heard and all points of view accounted for, the leader (with her team) can collectively map-out a path toward a viable and sustainable solution. As fundamental as communication may sound, don’t ever assume that people are comfortable sharing what they really think. This is where a leader must trust herself and her intuition enough to challenge the team until accountability can be fairly enforced and a solution can been reached.
2. Break Down Silos

Transparent communication requires you to break down silos and enable a boundary-less organization whose culture is focused on the betterment of a healthier whole. Unnecessary silos invite hidden agendas rather than welcome efficient cross-functional collaboration and problem solving.
Organizational silos are the root cause of most workplace problems and are why many of them never get resolved. This is why today’s new workplace must embrace an entrepreneurial spirit where employees can freely navigate and cross-collaborate to connect the problem solving dots; where everyone can be a passionate explorer who knows their own workplace dot and its intersections. When you know your workplace dot, you have a much greater sense of your sphere of influence. This is almost impossible to gauge when you operate in silos that potentially keep you from having any influence at all.

In a workplace where silos exist, problem solving is more difficult because you are more likely dealing withself-promoters – rather than team players fostered by a cross functional environment.. When you operate in a siloed environment where everyone wants to be a star, it becomes increasingly difficult to help make anything or anyone better. This is when problem solving becBreaking down silos allows a leader to more easily engage their employees toget their hands dirty and solve problems together. It becomes less about corporate politicking and more about finding resolutions and making the organization stronger.
3. Open-minded People
Breaking down silos and communication barriers requires people to be open-minded. In the end, problem solving is about people working together to make the organization and the people it serves better. Therefore, if you are stuck working with people that are closed-minded, effective problem solving becomes a long and winding road of misery.

PROTECT YOUR DATA WITH AN LG NETWORK ATTACHED STORAGE DEVICE:
If I were to lose my computer I would be devastated. Expense aside, I would definitely be most annoyed about losing all my music, photographs and documents! To avoid financial repercussions you would naturally insure your laptop, however backing up all your data can be a time consuming and irritatingly long-winded process.
The solution to backing up all your work easily is with a network attached storage device. These NAS devices are by no means new, but have previously been costly and usually aimed at the business sector.

Technology Market / Re: Apple Shows Off Thinner Ipad Air And Retina Ipad Mini by iafatok(m): 11:07pm On Oct 23, 2013
5 Reasons to Buy the iPad Air:
Words to which you can append the letters “er”: light, thin, fast, cheap. Apple checked those boxes and more at its prosaically dubbed “Special Event“ Tuesday afternoon, trotting out retooled laptops, souped up tablets and a new hard-to-top price for OS X along with several key apps, as in “nada.”

While the new iPads don’t cost nada, the starting price for an iPad is the cheapest it’s ever been — as little as $300 for a 16GB iPad Mini. An extra $100 fetches a new 16GB iPad Mini with a 7.9-inch Retina display and internal specs every bit the equal of the svelte new 9.7-inch A7-powered iPad Air.

Time to buy one? Upgrade your existing model? Wait for better? Let’s talk tablets.

Herewith, the arguments for the iPad Air:

You don’t have an iPad, you’ve been thinking about buying an iPad and you want a hunka hunka burnin’ iPad.

The iPad Air represents Apple’s best and brightest slate: a monster future-proof 64-bit processor, a beautiful 2048-by-1536 Retina display, an aluminum shell that’s 20% thinner than its predecessor with a 43% narrower bezel when held in portrait mode. It’s lost roughly 33% of the prior model’s weight, dropping from 1.4 pounds to just 1 pound, and it’s loaded with a slew of newly gratis productivity apps, from Apple’s Pages to Numbers to Keynote — the entire iWork suite — as well as iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand.

It’s more than a little better than the iPad 2.

See that 16GB iPad 2 still inexplicably listed on the Apple Store for $400? Don’t buy it. I mean it — steer clear at all costs. Maybe Apple made too many and needs to burn through its overstock. Maybe the company’s nuts, who knows. If Apple’s now two-and-a-half year old second-gen iPad were $100, or $200 at most, there’d be an argument. But the differences here, from size to weight and screen resolution to internal specs are stark — worth a lot more than the relatively trivial $100 delta Apple’s charging for the 16GB iPad Air.

$100 is a pittance for two extra inches of sweet, sweet diagonal.

The price difference between the iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina display is $100, whatever price tier you’re eyeballing storage- or cellular-wise. The Air and Retina Mini are identical in all other aspects save one: diagonal screen size — the iPad Air is nearly 10 inches, the iPad Mini nearly eight. The weight difference is inconsequential: an all but indiscernible quarter of a pound. Because the Retina Mini squeezes the same number of pixels into a smaller glass-top area, it wins for overall pixel density, but riddle me this: Would you rather play games like XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Infinity Blade III or Battle of the Bulge on an 8- or 10-inch diagonal fondleslab?

You’re planning to use it as your primary workstation.

This dovetails with the last point: you’ll really, really appreciate that extra screen real estate if you’re planning to use this as a laptop or desktop replacement. Your eyes will thank you if you’re planning to sit for five, six, seven or eight hours on end, tapping a 10-inch screen (instead of an 8-inch one) or typing away on a keyboard staring at the screen in a stand. If the Mini’s really more your speed size-wise, fair enough, but don’t overlook the ergonomic advantages of that 23% screen real estate increase.

Technology Market / Apple Shows Off Thinner Ipad Air And Retina Ipad Mini by iafatok(m): 4:05pm On Oct 23, 2013
Apple has unveiled a top-of-the-range tablet called the iPad Air that is 20% thinner than the previous version.
The 9.7in (24.6cm) computer is 7.5mm (0.3in) thick and weighs 1lb (469g), which the firm claims is the lightest full-sized tablet on the market.
It is powered by the same A7 chip found in the company's iPhone 5S.
The launch comes at a time when some analysts have suggested that Google's Android is about to overtake Apple's iOS as the bestselling tablet platform.
Apple also announced a new version of its iPad Mini.
Its 7.9in (20cm) screen has been upgraded to feature 2048 by 1536 pixels - the same as the larger model. It is being branded as "retina" to highlight the increased resolution.
Amazon and Google have already announced small tablets - the Kindle Fire HDX and Nexus 7 - with similar high definition displays.
"We've got the retina upgrade to the smaller iPad that many thought should have been there in the first place," Tony Cripps, principal analyst at tech consultants Ovum, reflected after the announcement in San Francisco.
"Market share slip is inevitable because so many rival devices are coming out, which is not necessarily a bad thing as the overall sector is growing.
"Apple does now have a cheaper model thanks to it offering the original iPad Mini at a lower price - but the firm doesn't really want to go to the low-end because that's not where the greatest profit is extracted."
Apple also announced that the latest version of its Mac operating system, Mavericks, would be offered at no cost to owners of computers already running any version of OS X released since 2009. It is the first time the company has not charged for a major Mac OS upgrade.
By contrast the full version of Windows 8.1 is sold for about £100, although it is free to existing Windows 8 users.
Linux-based Ubuntu has always been offered without charge. Chromebook computers also get free upgrades for Google's PC operating system.
New laptops, productivity and leisure apps were also unveiled. However, Apple did not show off a new TV set-top box as some had speculated.
Tablet competition
The California-based firm's most recent financial release said that its iPad range accounted for $25.8bn (£17.6bn) worth of sales in the nine months leading up to July.
That represented 19% of its revenue for the period.
However, Apple acknowledged that the amount of money it was making from the product line was growing three times slower than the growth in unit sales since many customers were opting for its cheaper iPad Mini and iPad 2 models rather than its top-of-the -range "retina display" versions.
It also faces the fact it is losing market share to rivals.
Apple's iOS operating system accounted for 53.9% of all tablets shipped in 2012, according to Gartner.
The tech research firm forecasts that Android will become the market leader with a 49.6% share, versus Apple's 48.6% this year, adding that it expects that gap to widen further in 2014.
However, consultants at IHS iSuppli said those figures needed to be put in context thanks to Apple's success at making money by taking a cut of app sales.
"It is in terms of revenue per active device where Apple's lead is strongest," said the firm's mobile media analyst Jack Kent.
"An iOS device generates around three to four times as much app revenue through Apple's App Store as an Android device through Google Play.
"Apple has so far offered a more compelling range of tablet-specific content, but Google is clearly looking to address this."
He added that many Android tablets, including Amazon's Kindle and most products sold in China, did not have Google's store pre-installed.
Apple's chief executive Tim Cook noted there were now 475,000 apps designed for iPads available through its online marketplace.
But another market watcher suggested that Apple's priority remained securing a "premium" margin on the shop price of its hardware, and that add-on software sales were of secondary interest.
"Some players, like Amazon, can afford to slash prices because they have a different business model based on content and commerce," said Thomas Husson, from the tech industry analysts Forrester.
"While Apple has shared $13bn to developers since 2008, it has made less than $6bn out of apps.

Technology Market / Re: Reliable Inverters, Power Generators, Inverter Battery, Installation Support by iafatok(m): 12:15am On Oct 10, 2013
sales_kara: still available
he power shortage and intermittent or fluctuation power supply in Nigeria have resulted in a lot of disruptions in the day to day activities of business that rely on power. power inverters have come to the rescue. Increasingly, Nigerians are seeing the wisdom in turning to the inverter solution to mitigate the power supply shortfall we face.

The other challenge is access to a reliable product or solution to overcome these challenges. As we know, Power inverters simply converts DC (direct current) to AC (alternating current) . they convert DC energy stored in a battery, to the electric current (AC) that your appliances require. An inverter taps current from the public supply or mains when that is on (it could be powered by a diesel or petrol or solar generator), stores that power in its battery bank as DC and converts it to AC when the power supply is gone. That way, the inverter provides the power backup you need.

We have brands such as Sukam, Luminous, Epsilon, Genuss and Mercury. These brands has a proven track-record of performance and durability. We offer a range of Sukam inverters including: 800VA, 1.4kva, 2.5kva, 3.5kva, 5kva, 7.5kva, 10kva, 15kva, 20kva and 30kva. Three-phase units are available in the upper range, from 10kva.

We also have models that are Online UPS, suitable for Data centers or critical servers.
