#HOME ADVICE 7 ADVANTAGES OF HAVING A STEEP PITCH ROOF A roof with a high pitch is commonly 6/12 – or 6 inches in height for every 12 inches across. From a professional standpoint, a steep roof is also a lot easier to check for any warning signs (without having to pull out the ladder). 4. Storage space: All that space under a steep roof pitch is good for more than just air! A steep roof encourages the development of larger attic spaces that are great for seasonal or long-term storage. The best part? This storage room often has very low installation costs, as the space is already there. 5. Fewer snow worries: Even without a cold roof system, a steep roof is generally better in a snowy environment (which is why you see those dramatic A-frame homes in colder areas). They encourage snow to slide off before it builds up too high. Ice melts more easily on a steep slope, preventing the build-up of ice patches or dams that can force moisture down into your roof. 6. Less debris: When needles, leaves, branches and dirt hit a low-slope roof, they tend to stay there easier than they would on a roof with a high pitch. Coffeempire:Presently I believe you can get Gerald stone coated roofing materials at the rate of between 2350 to 2500 naira per sqm.it all depends on your location and bargaining power. Using my roofing measuremnt to calculate Roofing height is 18 ft, I mean the king post Total sqm is 295 sqm. I believe with Gerald you won't be needing cladding and the rest because you would likely go for parapet , concrete fascia so I will not including the sqm for cladding in my estimate .... So multiply 295sqm by price of between 2350 and 2500 gives you between 693,250 and 737500 naira. Using my own roof measurement that should be the amount you will spend on Gerald roofing material only excluding other accessories and materials needed for the roofing |

Asquare84:Ok up to this stage here is the breakdown of amount spent Cost of foundation. 12 bags of cement used @ 2400 each 28,800 1 trip of sharp sand @ 15000 15000 1 trip of gravel @ 18000 18000 500 blocks 6 inches @130 65000 Sticks for setting the foundation 1000 Labour 42000 Total spent at this stage 169,000 Cost of raising building to level 2500 blocks 6 inches @ 130 each 325,000 28 bags of cement @ 2400 each 67,200 2 trip of sharp sand @15000 30,000 Labour to raise till level 85000 Water free from a well nearby Total spent at this stage 507,200 Cost of lintel level 8 bags of cement @ 2400 19200 All iron rooss used 40,000 All Wood for lintel 30000 Carpenter workmanship 30000 We used remaining gravel used in foundation stage Extra 300 blocks for 3 coaches after lintel @ 130 each 39,000 Total cost at this stage 158,200 So total cost till level 169000 +507,200 +158,200 is 834,400 naira Cost of roofing Wood work and labour 335400 Total spent on aluminum roofing 0.45 mm long span and accessories 502200 naira only. Length of kingpost 18 feet Main roof total sqm is 295. Cladding....31.55 sqm Accessories 57 m Total spent at roofing stage 502200 + 335400 = 837600 So from foundation to roofing excluding land ,survey, town planning, Ono onile, transportation , feeding and small expenses is 1,672,000 naira , that is roughly 1.6million naira |

After completion of the wood work, it was time for roofing proper.that is converting the wood works with aluminum.i went to the aluminum company my self to do the bargaining.thia is the best way to do your roofing else you will fall into the hands on unscrupulous roofers who are out to take the little you have and leave you in tears. First I called a roofer to take the roof measurements .after climbing up and doing his thing, he came down and gave me a measurement of 350 sqm for only the roof, cladding and the rest not included.but I decided to contact the company my self and they came down to my site to take their own measurement.ans guess what, their own measurement was 295sqm.,cladding not included.now look at the huge difference. My verdict, when you which to cloth your wood work with aluminium roofing sheet go to the company producing it your self
