Awka — Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities in the state, following a major security operation by the new task force codenamed Operation Udo Ga Achi. The governor revealed that during a recent raid on a criminal hideout in Owerre-Ezukala, Orumba South Local Government Area, security operatives neutralized 15 suspected criminals and captured 13 others alive. Reacting to the recent murder of state lawmaker Hon. Justice Azuka, whose body was discovered at the Second Niger Bridge, Onitsha, Soludo assured the public that arrests had already been made. “I have received the sad story of our lawmaker’s death. Six suspects have been arrested, and efforts are underway to track the native doctor who prepares charms for the criminals in Asaba,” Soludo said. “We are determined to liberate Anambra completely from these elements.” The governor hailed the recent successes of the security architecture under Operation Udo Ga Achi and reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to continue the crackdown until peace is fully restored. “This morning, our security operatives invaded a camp in Owerre-Ezukala, neutralizing 15 gunmen and capturing 13. We are on the last lap now. Kidnapping has become lucrative because they believe Anambra people will pay. But we are fighting to finish—we are ready to clear them off,” Soludo said. However, controversy erupted as reports surfaced that three individuals from the governor’s hometown, Isuofia, were mistakenly killed during the raid. According to a viral video, the three young men were reportedly construction workers at a building site in Owerre-Ezukala when they were mistakenly gunned down by the operatives. In the video, angry women from the community were seen protesting by using the corpses to barricade a road near a Catholic Church, expressing outrage over the incident. Governor Soludo has yet to officially comment on the allegations, but sources indicate that an investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/02/anambra-security-crackdown-soludo-vows-to-wipe-out-criminal-elements/amp/

In a bid to strengthen security and ensure the safety of its citizens, the Anambra State government on Tuesday, February 4, demolished three kidnappers’ dens located in Ndiezenwankwo Uruagu, Umumejiaku Uruagu, and Obiofia Nnewichi, all in Nnewi North Local Council. The operation was led by Deputy Governor Onyekachukwu Ibezim, accompanied by the Special Adviser on Community Security, Chief Ken Emeakayi; House Committee Chairman on Security and Majority Leader, Hon Ikenna Ofodeme; Nnewi North Local Council Chairman, Mr Echezona Anazodo; and Augustine Ike. Speaking on the development, Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, described the action as a clear demonstration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to tackling criminality and fostering peace in the state. “This underscores Governor Soludo’s war on criminality in the state, the recent launch of the Anambra security system, ‘Agụnaechemba,’ and Operation ‘Udo Ga-Achi,’ (Peace Shall Reign),” Mefor said. According to him, the security system is equipped with advanced technology, including a state-of-the-art tracking system, command-and-control systems that integrate voice, video, and data for efficient security management, and AI-powered surveillance cameras to monitor communities across the state. Other facilities include walkie-talkies, specialised task forces on drugs, touting, cultism, and criminal idolatry, as well as routine patrols and stop-and-search operations. “Governor Soludo has emphasised that security, law, and order are central to his administration’s vision of creating a livable and prosperous homeland,” he added. Mefor also noted that the dynamics of criminality in the South-East and Nigeria as a whole have evolved, requiring thoughtful, deliberate, and comprehensive responses. He commended the governor’s efforts, describing them as pragmatic and reassuring to stakeholders.https://guardian.ng/news/nigeria/metro/anambra-demolishes-three-kidnappers-dens-lauds-security-success/

A whole house of assembly member got missing without a trace |
A human rights activist, Comrade Osita Obi, has cried out over the spate of missing people in Anambra State. The activist, who addressed a press conference in Awka, said it is becoming almost normal for people to mysteriously disappear in Anambra with no trace, while life continues as if nothing has happened. He said that, besides persons who have fallen victim to kidnappers and were never found, there have been three prominent individuals in the state who have remained missing, and nothing is being done to trace them. He mentioned prominent businessman Mr. Benjamin Ezemma, House of Assembly member Hon. Justice Azuka, and candidate of the Labour Party in the Anambra 2021 governorship election Mr. Obiora Agbasimalo, all of whom went missing at various times and have not been seen since. Obi said, “I am more concerned about the sudden disappearance of Mr. Benjamin Ezemma, who is also the Vice Chairman of Dubai Estate and also known as Big Ben. He disappeared on November 12 and has not been seen since then. “We are here to encourage the government to find Ben Ezemma. It is Ben today, it may be any one of us tomorrow. We know that the government has the capacity to find this man. What is the federal government doing about this? “We all did SIM registration, NIN registration, and others. What is the use of such data that we left with the federal government? Can’t they use it to find missing people like Ben? “We are urging the police, DSS, NSA, and other security agencies to find this man. We are expecting that the authorities would have swung into action without waiting for people like us to report the incident to them. “Let these security agencies use the facilities available to them to track down his kidnappers. Even if it entails monitoring the call log of Ben through his service providers, we can use it to know the kind of person Ben was, what he has been into, and who he has been having dealings with.” The activist revealed that some people who are suspected to have had dealings with the missing businessman have been dragged to court. He begged journalists to show interest in the matter and report it to the world so that it would not be swept under the carpet. While expressing happiness about the level of commitment the Department of State Services (DSS) in Anambra State has shown in the matter, he condemned the state police command for what he called glaring incompetence. He said, “I’m not happy with the police performance in this matter. Anambra should not be a dumping ground for police officers who are due for retirement, who just come here to make money. If this continues, we may have no option but to protest it.”https://dailypost.ng/2025/02/04/activist-raises-alarm-over-spate-of-missing-people-in-anambra/#
