Politics › Delta: Appeal Court Affirms Oborevwori’s Victory, Dismisses APC Petition by Iampromoted(op): 5:20pm On Nov 24, 2023 |
Delta: Appeal Court affirms Oborevwori’s victory, dismisses APC Petition
The Appeal Court sitting in Lagos State has dismissed the petition filed by Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege challenging the victory of Hon Sheriff Oborevwori for lacking in merit.
Omo-Agege is of the All Progressives Congress, APC, while the governor is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
A three-member panel of the appellate court handed down the judgement on Friday, thereby upholding the judgement of the Election Petition Tribunal in Delta State.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State has congratulated Governor Oborevwori.
In a congratulatory message signed by the PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr Ifeanyi Osuoza, he said the victory was another step towards ensuring the steady and continuous implementation of the MORE agenda for Deltans.
The statement reads: “Your Excellency, our leader, it is with unreserved joy, pride and satisfaction, that the entire PDP family in Delta State, offer our hearty congratulations to you, on your well-deserved victory at the Court of Appeal.
“We applaud the judiciary once again for their learned, articulate and well-delivered judgement, which is a further affirmation of what we had already stated categorically and without equivocation, that the PDP overwhelmingly won the 2023 Delta State Governorship election and Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is undoubtedly, the duly elected Governor of Delta State.
“While we recognize the fact that our petitioners have the freedom of choice to pursue their legal convictions to whatever conclusion they may have envisioned, we still wish, with the best intentions, to offer our olive branch and hand of fellowship by urging them to reconsider any further challenge, after this Appeal Court verdict, to avoid frittering extra resources in these very hard times.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who has indeed started so well and exhibited impressive governance and excellent leadership skills since assuming office is greatly buoyed now to continue the fine work of delivering the dividends of democracy to our people and as a responsible and people oriented party, it is our utmost desire to carry all Deltans along in the collective effort to ensure the best for our State.
“His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has already and amply demonstrated his large-hearted, all encompassing and accommodating politics without bitterness disposition for all to see and it behoves on all true, patriotic and well meaning Deltans to eschew further political acrimony and join hands with the Governor to consolidate on the delivery of the MORE Agenda in the interest of Deltans.”

ravensckar: Trust me, he wanted to. He was frustrated at the lack of level playing ground that the PDP refused to allow.
Firstly, the delegate list was tampered with, this gave Anyanwu the obvious advantage.
Secondly, Anyanwu's refusal to formally resign as the National Secretary despite the calls for it showed that he was being backed by some forces.
Thirdly, the malicious attack on the character & personality of Ihedioha by his fellow party men who accused him of being a Fulani sponsored candidate further demoralized him.
Finally, he knew for a fact that unseating UZODINMA (a seating governor) wouldn't be easy. Furthermore, attempting to do it with a divided opposition would be catastrophic. Hence, the reason he backed out of the fight. It was a battle that even the most astute politician cannot win. It's just a case of the presidential election repeating itself; if ATIKU, OBI & KWAKWANSO had worked together, Tinubu wouldn't have emerged victorious. Hmm. Good analysis. |

Padipadi: Ok. Over to supreme court now. Since 1999, close to 10 states has Guber elections that are not synching with the presidential elections. Too many tribunal cases that made them unbalanced. Let me list some states that has unbalanced Guber calender with the general one that started from May 29, 1999. Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Anambra, Kogi, Bayelsa, Imo and Edo. But the whole off cycle election and na unbalanced timetable started in 2003 during Chris Ngige vs Peter Obi. It's a disgrace to our democracy. Why some people ll be sworn in at every May 29 of a general 4 years tenure and others at separate dates. Even GEJ talk say make senate look into am to find a synergy date to correct the anomalies. Meanwhile the ojoro is still on. Some states like Ogun, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa have serious legal issues that their time table may turn if petitioners win their cases at tribunal. A times one ll wish maybe make military come back. Cos politicians are not doing well and they earn more. I support slashing their earnings and make the job attractive to serious candidates. See more here: https://www.thecable.ng/off-cycle-elections-imo-kogi-bayelsa/amp There is nothing the legislature can do about off-cycle elections. |

ravensckar: This paperweight politician who handed UZODINMA a second term ticket on a platter of gold. Only if the PDP had handed the governorship ticket to Emeka Ihedioha, perhaps the outcome would have been different.
And those good for nothing labourers too (ELUPEE) always playing to APC's electoral game plan. A United opposition is the only thing that will rescue Nigeria from APC's tight grip. If only they could all come together to form a United opposition. Well, George Bernard Shaw was right when he said; 'History does not repeat itself, it's humans that don't learn from history'.
Sen. Anyanwu should step down as PDP National Secretary. He cannot eat his cake and still think of having it. Nonsense! Emeka didn't want to contest. |
