https://www.ibadaninsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Dustbins-1.jpg Oyo State Government has commenced House to House public health and hygiene sensitization to ensure the compliance of one house, one Waste Bin policy of the state, saying that dumping of refuse into the rivers and streams channels, as well as road median, remain prohibited. The State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Chief Isaac Ishola said this in Ibadan on Thursday, disclosing that the Ministry had dredged 50 streams and rivers in the state between 2014 to 2017 and it is necessary for each house in Oyo state to have Waste Bin Chief Ishola said that efforts are already being taken to expand some rivers in the state for the free flow of water through the construction of about 14 priority sites to expand river hydraulic and bridges. The Commissioner reiterated that it is a legal and moral offence for anybody to drop refuse inside rivers, streams and road median, urging that people should stay away from flood-plains once the rain persists for more than half hour. He said, “The beginning of failure, is the failure to plan, as a responsible State Government we have identified some rivers and streams that are due to be dredged in order to have a flood free raining season. We are also calling on our people to desist from activities that can cause flooding in the state. Furthermore, we have started the House to House campaign of the government’s policy of One House, One Drum to ensure that people are aware of their responsibilities.” Chief Ishola stressed that each house as a matter of civic responsibility is expected to patronise private refuse collectors as assigned by the management of Oyo State Waste Management Authority (OYOWMA), revealing that the government is planning to establish Oyo State Enforcement Agency to complement the various enforcement strategies of the Ministry. He called on the people of the state, who have their houses built on the flood-prone areas, to vacate such houses to prevent the loss of lives and properties. https://www.ibadaninsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/APC-Logo1.jpg The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has warned its members, particularly aspirants jostling for party tickets in the forthcoming local government council election and their supporters, to desist from any conduct capable of bringing the party into disrepute or cause its leadership to lose focus. This warning came against the backdrop of a protest rally staged at the Oke-Ado State Secretariat of the Party by a group of persons believed to be APC members and supporters acting on the suspicion that there were plans to compromise on the choice of conduct of party primaries for many aspirants eyeing chairmanship and councillorship seats of the 33 local government councils and 35 local council development areas of the state in the poll slated for May 12, 2018. Reacting to the development in a statement issued on Monday by its Public Relations Officer, Olawale Sadare, APC described the allegations of planned imposition of candidates as a figment of the imagination of the protests and their sponsors urging members of the general public to regard it as cheap blackmail antics employed to cause unnecessary tension in the land. “We are indeed embarrassed at the level which decorum was thrown into the air by this set of people, some of who we could identify as APC members in the state. Peaceful and purposeful protests are some of the essentials of democracy but when cheap blackmail is involved, it becomes condemnable. “The allegation of a planned imposition of candidates is not only a hoax but also something that should not feature in the present scenario. The state executive committee of the APC led by Chief Akin Oke has earned itself a reputation for upholding the sanctity of internal democracy as enshrined in our party constitution while the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has also demonstrated a personal commitment to the ideals of the party. “In the build to 2015 general election, Oyo APC ranked among the best state party chapters where candidates emerged through transparent, free, fair and credible primaries. Neither the governor nor any other person influenced the choices made by delegates and we have not deviated from this path of rational conduct. “Meanwhile, the seeming delay in the release of guidelines by the party was caused by the new development explained to all stakeholders by OYSIEC at a meeting last Wednesday when indications emerged that the recent delineation of wards exercise done in the state would be implemented at the May 12 poll. “The implication is that additional wards have been created but they have not been made public. It then became imperative to wait on OYSIEC which had promised to release the map and necessary documents this week to guide all participating political parties. But as at now (Monday), nothing has been heard from the electoral body. “It is also important to set the record straight on the issues raised by the protesters. There was never a time we received a protest letter or any other letter from individual or group concerning the need to conduct primaries since we know what to do at a time like this to satisfy all parties without running afoul of the constitution of our great Party. “Lastly, we are appealing to all aspirants and their supporters to desist from acting on unfounded rumours and unsubstantiated allegations coming from fifth columnists as we guarantee the announcement of the guidelines that would usher in free, fair and credible primaries as soon as we get updated by OYSIEC on the issue of ward delineation.” The statement concluded. https://www.ibadaninsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/ladoja.jpg Despite their political differences and recent crisis that trailed the elevation of some High Chiefs in Ibadan land by the state government, the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, former Governor of the State, Senator Rasidi Ladoja, and other prominent Ibadan indigenes over the weekend unanimously celebrated the progress of Ibadan land. They all gathered to celebrate Ibadan land at the inauguration of new executive members of Ajorosun Social Club, a foremost socio-cultural group in the ancient city. Other dignitaries at the event included a former Chief Justice in the State, Justice Badejoko Adeniji, President Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, Chief Adeyemi Soladoye, Member, House of Representatives representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara, Hon. Ajimobi who was represented by the secretary to the state government, Alhaji Olalekan Alli said Ajimobi always seeks the goodness and unity of Ibadan at all times. Oba Adetunji, while showering blessings on Ibadan land said; “as a father of all sons and daughters of the ancient city, I will always be in support of all suggestions, moves and efforts in moving the city forward.” He said; “I thank you for your efforts, you will continue to succeed. I want all of you to work for Ibadan progress and God will continue to be with you. Amin,” Olubadan said. https://www.ibadaninsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/soka-new-1.jpg Many Nigerians and indeed residents of Ibadan woke up that morning of March 22, 2014, to discover that right in the midst of the city a dungeon existed where missing people had ended up as victims. Sunday Tribune’s TADE Makinde visited Soka community where the den was discovered and reports that things have since changed for the better though there are still some challenges. On March 22, 2014, the news broke that a dungeon at Soka area of Ibadan, off the popular Iwo Road expressway, had been discovered where several people who had fallen victims of kidnappers and ritualists had met their untimely death. Reporters and curious residents of the city who rushed to the scene found a hitherto impenetrable dungeon strewed with rotting bodies, women clothes, shoes, skeletons and human skulls. Different narratives related stories about the existence of the dungeon. Some said the place used to be a site used by a construction company which had long abandoned the placed. Some also said that at a point it became a dumping ground for mentally ill people while some said it was a place operated by kidnappers working for some politicians where victims were dismembered for ritual purposes. When reporters spoke to some victims who were found at the scene after the news broke, some of them claimed that they were abducted and forced into some vehicles by people suspected to be working for the government in its bid for urban renewal and dumped them in the den. Residents of the area even claimed that they had complained several times to the authorities to draw their attention to the happenings in the den all to no avail. Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s visit to the scene was greeted by angry relations of missing victims and residents. After pleading for calm and sympathising with victims and their relations he then announced that he was revoking the Certificate of Occupancy of the land. At that time nobody wanted to go to Soka. Even taxi and bus drivers including Okada riders refused to ply the area as a result of the negative news coming from there. Today, almost four years later the story has changed. A school had sprung up at the very site of the now popular ‘evil forest built by the Federal government. Named Oyo State Comprehensive Model School, the transformation brought by the school has brought some excitement to the community that a new story is being told about Soka. Sitting on almost 6 acres of land, the once notorious kidnappers den now houses several classrooms, six toilets attached to each block of classroom that accommodates 40 students; four dormitories for students, computer and teachers’ rooms, Principal, Vice Principal’s offices and lodges, corpers lodge, science laboratory, Technical Drawing class, a sick bay, a hall that comfortably accommodates 445 guests, among other facilities. The imposing structures that now litter the massive expanse of land seem to have erased the old memory of Soka as a kidnappers’ den and is now a citadel of learning. Instead of “malnourished human beings looking like living skeletons”, as Daily Mail of London reported the story, chubby-looking students now fill the space as they joyfully go to school to study. Sunday Tribune, however, gathered that most of the fewer than 20 students of the school so far were withdrawn from other schools to form the crop of the first set of students and to help grow the population. “This now belongs to us. We are making deliberate efforts to grow the numbers of students,” Mr Wole Adeleye said. “Besides, the tuition is affordable,” added Mrs Alani Olaide. Isiak Ibrahim, a member of the community said that residents decided to withdraw their children from neighbouring schools to the model school because of its standard structures. Ibrahim while speaking to Sunday Tribune said he plans to bring his little daughter to the school when she comes of age. But right now, the school is in its second term as it went into academic activities on January 3, 2018. “Because we are just starting, all the students are allowed to come to school wearing any type of uniform until the session ends in July. By that time also, the present set of students, who are in JSS I, will be promoted to JSS II, while new students would be admitted into JSS I,” Ibrahim said when asked why the students were not wearing different uniforms. Another resident, Mrs Yemi Yusuf, told Sunday Tribune that her child has not joined the school yet, but will surely become a student next session. “Nothing compares to a standard public school. They teach all subjects compared to private schools. Public schools were once better ones in the country. I am sure this school is going to bring back the glory. The teachers are deep and motivated,” Mrs Yusuf said explaining reasons for wanting her children to attend the new school, adding: “Besides, “the tuition is affordable and the school is very close to our home.” 20 years error surfaces As sweet as the school story is, there are still some potential challenges facing residents and their children. Everyone has spoken to agree that first on the huge list is the urgent need to construct a bridge across the Ogunpa stream channel, a World Bank-assisted project, which was partly completed at the onset of the present democratic milieu. “Because Soka was densely populated when Costaine embarked on the construction, it was decided that rather than waste money and time then, it was best that the Yejide and Kudeti end of the project be completed. The company, however, promised to return to work once our population increased. Now, we have moved beyond being a mere village and we desperately need this bridge to connect us, not only with the school but also the other side,” said the Faruku of Soka, Baale Isiaka Bello Olupoju. Grateful that the state government has handed over the school to the community, the community leader, however, wants the government to compel the construction company handling the project to return to the site and finish it. “The rains will soon start and it will become very tough for our children to get to the school safely. For now, they have to trek through the channelisation project to the school because we are in the dry season. “Then, it will become difficult as the path will get filled with water. If we don’t have the bridge constructed quickly, our children will have to trek longer miles, burst out at the notorious Soka junction and walk again for almost two kilometres on the dangerous expressway. “We don’t want that. It’s dangerous to trek the busy expressway. Unless a bridge is constructed to connect us and those who live at Sanyo, Toll Gate area, deaths won’t be avoided and we don’t want that,” said the Baale. Mrs Yusuf also added her voice to the fears over the ability of the school pupils to use the path being used now during the rainy season. “When our request is finally met, the contractor should raise the bridge high enough as the channel usually gets overrun with water if we have heavy rains,” she suggested. When Sunday Tribune visited the Ogunpa end of the new school, materials that were to be used for the bridge construction were seen lying in waste. “They’ve been there for 19 years,” Baale Olupoju lamented, just as Mr Motayo Runsewe, a member of the community development association, lamented that the community could not go ahead to construct the bridge due to the paucity of funds. “We can’t embark on the construction because it’s very expensive; we don’t have enough money to see it through and we don’t want to run into problem midway into the construction,” he said. Students navigating the Ogunpa canal to get to the model school Jonathan resonates Apart from the urgent need of a bridge, investigations revealed that the model school is not connected to any power source. Residents are worried that the present federal government might have abandoned the project and therefore, could lay waste many of the equipment that had been installed in the school. For instance, the computer room which needs constant power to cool it is always in darkness. Ibrahim, the Public Relations Officer of Soka Community Development Association, told Sunday Tribune that the wiring job in the school is not complete without power. “All we see are sockets, but there are no wires inside any of the sockets. For a school with dormitories, lodges for teachers, corps members, students, a principal and vice principal, it will not be safe to have people in there and no electricity,” he said. Mr Ade Fashehun who is also a resident of the community sees politics playing out in the whole issues. “This is a federal government project. If the government is a continuum, I don’t see why Buhari should not complete what his predecessor started. The future of the children of Soka is at stake and politics should not even come into play,” Mr Fashehun lamented. Several other residents of Soka also agree that security for students of the school is also important, “not with reports of kidnappers gaining entrance into some schools. The case of Chibok girls’ kidnap and another one in Lagos,” Baale Olupoju said. He especially wants the government to construct a police post close to the school for security, and a police station for the security of Soka residents. For Runsewe, the construction of the bridge would indirectly help in the provision of security. He believes that if there is a bridge, there would be movement round the clock and we won’t be afraid of the activities of unscrupulous elements. Still, in its rugged nature, Runsewe also wants the government to landscape it for foot and car paths, just as he requests for the provision of a transformer and a 100 KVA generator pending the time its power issue would be solved. Benefits Undoubtedly, the citing of the model school has been described as the best thing to happen to Soka. Initially designed to be either an all-female school or a Polytechnic, the community prevailed on the government for the establishment of a secondary school as the people could directly connect with such. “We won’t be able to afford the tuition fee of a Polytechnic, while we needed an all-inclusive school. This was the position of the community and it was passed on to the governor. We are happy about this,” he said. However, as Soka continues to grow, doing everything to break away from its unenviable past a lot still need to be done. As of now, some factories are already springing up, apart from a distillery company, a confectionary factory and three publishing companies already sited there. The horrors of the past would only be forgotten when the government makes the full commitment to the projects it has started by not only completing them but also sustaining the success arising from its intervention in Soka. https://www.ibadaninsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/saidi-balogun-50th-birthday.jpg Ibadan-born Nollywood star, Actor Saidi Balogun, has recalled and narrated how the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, rescued him from a very serious spinal cord injury which could have rendered him paralyzed. He said that his spinal cord almost became useless if not for God’s help and the swift intervention of the members of staff at the teaching hospital. According to the Actor, “In 2006, I was involved in a ghastly accident that almost rendered my spinal cord useless. The accident was so bad that the news was everywhere. Due to the extent of the injury, many people advised me to travel abroad for treatment thinking that if I remained in Nigeria, I would never walk again. But some of the members of staff of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, advised me to remain with them and they would deploy all their resources to ensure I walked again. I was assured that they were more than capable to do the job and I thank God that I listened to them because I am walking again. Balogun, who was recently unveiled as the first brand ambassador of UCH, noted that when he was contacted, he had a nostalgic feeling because members of staff of the hospital saved his life about 11 years ago He revealed: “When they approached me that they wanted me to become their first brand ambassador, I was highly honoured and could not turn down the offer because they saved my life. Part of my duties is to sensitize my colleagues on the dangers they face if they don’t go for regular medical check-up and vacations because we work round the clock. My role as an ambassador would not really reflect on my movies even though some of my recent movies would have medical themes. “I would also hold medical seminars regularly and I am sure a lot of my colleagues would benefit from it because I would invite some medical experts to talk to them. When I had the accident in 2006, I was able to foot my bill because I had adequate plans for rainy days but that cannot be said for some of my colleagues. I hope that I could use my seminar to preach the gospel of health insurance to them. Think about it, if every Nigerian entertainer had health insurance package, we would be able to curb the unhealthy trend of entertainers begging the public for money when they have an ailment. This hospital gave me this year to settle in and come up with ways I could help my colleagues live a better life. I have already written some proposals to them and by next year, we would kick-off fully. With this new appointment, I am sure a lot of my colleagues would live longer.” Source: https://www.ibadaninsider.com/entertainment-2/uch-ibadan-rescued-spinal-cord-injury-saidi-balogun/ |

https://i1.wp.com/www.ibadaninsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/burutai.jpg?w=660&ssl=1 Ibadan city is currently hosting the 2017 4th quarter Chief of Army Staff Conference as Lt. Gen Yusuf Buratai, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Major Gen Ike Nwachukwu (retd), are among eminent Nigerians at the Conference 2017. The six-day conference is being hosted by the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army in Ibadan. The conference started on Monday, 10th of December at World Lilies Event Place, Apata, Ibadan is expected to end on Wednesday the 15th of December, 2017. President Muhammadu Buhari who was expected to be the special guest of honour at the opening of the conference was duly represented. Major Gen, Ike Nwachukwu (retd) delivered a lecture yesterday, 11th of December 2017 on the topic: ‘Safeguarding Nigeria’s Unity and Sovereignty: A Patriotic and Constitutional Imperative for the Nigerian Army.’ The choice of hosting this auspicious event in Ibadan Oyo State is pursuant to the Chief of Army Staff’s desire to exercise all Nigerian Army formations in hosting strategic level events of this nature. Under the current circumstances, Headquarters 2 Division Ibadan has been granted the privilege of hosting the entire Nigerian Army for the Annual Conference 2017. Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State on Monday commended the army for its support in ensuring the security of lives and properties in the state. The governor gave this commendation in Ibadan while receiving the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.- Gen. Tukur Buratai, who visited him in his office. Ajimobi said that the Nigerian Army had released some of its men to lead a special task force set up by his administration to restore peace and order in the state. https://i2.wp.com/www.ibadaninsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/army-conference.jpg?w=1080&ssl=1 “The state before our assumption of office in 2011 was popularly known as a garrison where brigandage, thuggery and other criminal activities were the order of the day. “When we assumed office, we set up a special task force known as ‘Operation Burst’ which involved the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Nigeria Air Force which was led by the Nigerian Army. “Today, Oyo State is one of the safest states in the country. We want you to help us commend your personnel for their support,” he said. The governor also described Buratai as a worthy leader who epitomizes professionalism in status and character. Earlier, Buratai had said that he was in Ibadan for the COAS Annual Conference where senior officers meet to brainstorm. “The conference is an annual ritual where top brass of the Nigerian Army gather to brainstorm on what transpired during the year, analyze and focus on activities of the following year,” he said. He said that the army had chosen the state after considering its strategic importance. “We are also here to rub minds and interact with stakeholders in the academia, civil society and government functionaries to have a very good background for subsequent years. “This would help us a lot in terms of training, operations and general administration,” he said. Buratai acknowledged the support received by the army, hinging this on the cordial working relationship with the state government. Prof Taoheed Adedoja, who spoke with newsmen in Abuja on Sunday said he was not happy about the outcome of the convention, regretting that the party has failed to learn from its past mistakes. The former Sports and Special Duties Minister who got no vote at the convention, pleaded with members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party to set up a committee to investigate what went wrong with the conduct of the exercise. According to Prof Taoheed Adedoja, it’s only an insane person that would say that the convention went through due process, saying “the exercise was characterized by impunity, which he said, must be reviewed in order to avert further crisis in the party. “A week to our convention, a list tagged ‘unity list’ emerged with names of the winners in the convention circulating around. So the BoT should find out what went wrong”, he said. Source: https://www.ibadaninsider.com/ibadan/pdp-natl-chairmanship-prof-taoheed-adedoja-unhappy-unity-list-wants-investigations/ |

The decision to present Adeniran, who is a former Ambassador to Germany, was taken at a meeting of the leaders from the zone convened by a former governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja and held till the early hours of Saturday in Abuja. A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and signed by Ladoja said: “From consultations with stakeholders from various zones, we gathered that from all zones, the stakeholders who prefer to back the South-West zone for the position suggested that we should prune down the number, if possible, to one person. https://i2.wp.com/www.ibadaninsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/images-9-487101387.jpeg?zoom=3&resize=330%2C318&ssl=1 “To reciprocate this laudable gestures, meetings of the seven (7) aspirants were held with Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as the convener on Wednesday 6, Thursday 7, Friday 8 and Saturday 9, December with the sole aim of agreeing on a consensus candidate. “We all agreed that the chances of one person winning are better than those of seven people who are likely to divide the votes coming to the zone. “Since then, Mr Jimi Agbaje, Chief Olabode George, Senator Rashidi Ladoja and Mr Olusegun Aderemi have withdrawn from the race. “Accordingly, I am of the opinion that Professor Tunde Adeniran should become our consensus candidate for the South-West zone. “I am hereby appealing to all lovers of the South-West zone to support the candidature of Professor Tunde Adeniran to clinch the position of the national chairman of our great party, PDP,” Ladoja said https://i1.wp.com/www.ibadaninsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/img-20171209-wa013-1476126942.jpg?zoom=3&resize=330%2C586&ssl=1 Source: https://www.ibadaninsider.com/politics/ladoja-adedoja-other-south-west-pdp-leaders-adopt-adeniran-as-consensus-candidate/ |

https://www.ibadaninsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/sales-of-land.jpg Everyday thousands of Nigerians at home and abroad hope to buy lands in Nigeria, more especially in popular cities such as Ibadan, Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Abeokuta, etc, but the common reoccurring theme that filters through their minds is how to safeguard their money so that they won’t be duped by fraudsters or lose their lands coupled with the terrifying stories that normally accompany the smooth transfer of these lands because of the prevalent nature of Land Scam artists and dubious Real Estate companies that specialize in defrauding prospective land purchasers. In order not to fall victim, there is a need to know the documents to ask for when buying land in Nigeria. There are a number of crucial documents to ask for when buying land in anywhere in Nigeria. Below are the documents to ask for when buying land in Nigeria. Receipt Approved survey plan Approved layout Power of Attorney Deed of assignment Certificate of Occupancy ( C of O) If you are dealing with an estate developer (buying within an estate), you should ask for the approved survey plan, approved layout, the power of attorney and the global C of O. If you are buying from an individual or company (one who has bought and wishes to resell), you should ask for the receipt, deed of assignment, approved survey plan and C of O. Buying directly from the family who claims to own the land is quite tricky. This is because it is difficult to determine the true owners of the land especially when the documents showing ownership haven’t been processed. Where the documents haven’t been processed, there are no documents to show authenticity and a prospective buyer has to really a great deal on word of mouth from the members of the community to ascertain the true owner(s) of the land in question. When the documents have been processed, they should provide you with the approved survey plan, approved layout (where the land is a large one and is being sold on a per plot basis) and the C of O. NOTE: It is very important that you have a good property lawyer before embarking on land/property purchase. Reason being that your lawyer is the one who ensures that you don’t run into legal trouble with land/property documents after purchase. It’s your lawyer’s job to verify the authenticity of any title document backing the land/property.
