America's annual murder rate beats that of all African nations combined, and America is the world's 5th most unequal nation, with racism and discrimination widespread in employment, law enforcement and social relations, so what is so ''united'' about them?

If you wish to see the bad in any group, there will always be more than enough to see.

Keep living in ignorance and telling yourself that Africa is better than America. When you have a problem the first step to resolving it is to accept the fact that you actually have a problem. I really do not care about whether or not polygamy is legal in the states. How does that affect my ability to feed my family or pay my children's school fees. Focus on the issues if you have the capacity to do so. Discrimination (whether it is based on tribe, gender, sexual orientation or religion) affects the economy and quality of life of the people. Polygamy/monogamy does not. Why are you defensive about my comments on VoIP? The point I was trying to make is that, in the grand scheme of things people shouldn't care if a person is muslim, christian, yoruba, igbo, gay or straight. If I didn't want to make a difference would I waste my time writing on this board? Is it not obvious that the reason I am writing this is to reach out to people to give unity a chance and stop dividing each other. Yes, I have a complex. I am ashamed to be African because Africans just keep proving our inferiority to whites. Do you think that is a good feeling? I am just amazed by the amount of ignorance that Africans display. It is apparent from the economic and social state of the majority of African countries. It's almost like black people just do not have the capacity to think productively. The reason America is so progressive is because they are united. If a black man is the fastest runner, they will select him to run. If a gay man is the most capable scientist, they will support him in his research and perhaps he will find the cure for cancer, if a women is the best engineer she will be given grants and her research will be supported. In Africa, instead of tapping into the resources that we have, we are busy fighting. Fighting muslims, fighting christians, fighting gay people. I work in an ISP and have been looking for a VoIP engineer for several months. No one qualifies. Most of the so called experienced engineers do not even know what voip is. If I finally find someone who is experienced and knowledgeable, do you think I will care about his sexual orientation? Whether he is gay or not is none of my business. I will hire him so he can help me provide a service to Nigerians and help me grow my business. It is just common sense. What is the benefit of throwing him in prison? Please help me understand why Africans cannot put our differences aside and work in unity towards building our countries and the continent as a whole.

Pedophilia should NOT be allowed to live in peace because they victimize children. A criminal offense is an offense where there is a victim. If there is no victim, there is no crime. Homosexuals do not victimize anyone. It is an agreement between 2 consenting adults. The same way fornication even though it is a sin, is not a crime because there is no victim.

The law is there to protect people so it should focus on issues like rape, pedophilia, theft etc situations where someone is victimized. Homosexuality between two consenting adults may be a sin in Islam and Christianity but unlike rape, theft or pedophilia, it is not a crime because there is no victim. I am happy that you christians support the gay bill which cleanses our society of homosexuals who sin against Allah. So also, I hope you understand how important it is for us muslims to cleanse our society of Christians who by worshipping the prophet Isa (Jesus) also sin against Allah.

It is only the hypocrite that believes that one sin is more sinful than the other. The sin of homosexuality is the same as the sin of christianity. The argument that you use against homosexuals is the same argument I will use to show you the error of your Christ worshipping ways. It is in your best interest to take heed.

Argument #1:
It is not part of our culture.

You believe homosexuals should be imprisoned because homosexuality is not part of our culture. Well, neither is christianity, technology, women in business etc. These things are not African. They are not our culture and should be denounced. Islam came to Nigeria before Christianity (9th century vs 15th century) and is more in tune with the beliefs of our ancestors (polygamy, modesty and submission in women etc). It is therefore closer to our culture than the western falsehood that is christianity.

Argument #2
Homosexuality is a sin.

So is christianity and the same way we imprison the gays, we will one day soon imprison the christian.

Majority carry the vote

Some people say that since majority of the Nigerian populace are in agreement with the imprisoning of gays, it should be implemented. This gladdens me because the majority of Nigerians are muslim. The time is coming when we the majority will carry the vote on what is right in this country.

Tolerance is preached by the West but why should we tolerate sin. The christians must understand that the same way they cannot tolerate the sin of homosexuality is the same way we muslims cannot tolerate the sin christianity. Sin is sin. There is no need for tolerance. The rot in the Nigerian system is due to the disgusting Christian practices. Philanderers and women of low virtue are allowed to wander free and pollute the rest of society spreading their disease and philosophy. Why does Christianity teach tolerance for adultery and fornication but not for homosexuality. Are they not all sins? But then, Christianity has always been a religion of hypocrites who say one thing but do another. I have no doubt that the religion of Islam will prevail in this country. It is a gradual process and the fight against the gays has indeed set the ball rolling. May Allah be praised.
