_APC Primaries:_ *UK-Based Mental Health Practitioner Commends Gov Eno, SSG for Peaceful Exercise* A United Kingdom-based Mental Health Practitioner and Coordinator of ARISE With Renewed Hope Initiative in Etoi 2 Ward 5, Akparawa Jimaimah Essien, has commended Governor Umo Eno and the Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, for the peaceful and successful conduct of the just concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections across the state. Akparawa Essien who is also the International Vice President 2, Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, gave the commendation in a congratulatory message made available to newsmen following the completion of the party’s week-long primary exercises which climaxed with the Presidential Primary election conducted across the 369 wards of Akwa Ibom State. The UK-based healthcare professional noted that the orderly, rancour-free and peaceful atmosphere recorded throughout the exercises marked a major departure from the tension, violence and confusion that previously characterised party primaries in the state. According to him, the successful conduct of the elections across the 31 local government areas reflected deliberate leadership, effective coordination and the growing unity currently existing among stakeholders within the party structure under Governor Eno’s leadership. He particularly applauded Prince Uwah, who served as Chairman of the APC Primaries Election Committee in the state, for what he described as exemplary leadership, fairness and commitment towards ensuring credibility, transparency and smooth coordination throughout the exercises. Akparawa Essien stated that the peaceful outcome of the primaries has further strengthened public confidence in the party and demonstrated the capacity of the current leadership to manage political processes without chaos, intimidation or breakdown of order. He added that the atmosphere of harmony and political stability presently being experienced in Akwa Ibom State has continued to attract goodwill and wider acceptance across party lines, expressing optimism that the development would further position the APC strongly ahead of the 2027 general elections. The mental health practitioner further described the conduct of the exercises as a positive signal for democratic growth and peaceful political engagement in the state, maintaining that stability within the political space remains critical to sustainable development and public confidence. He prayed for greater wisdom and strength for the leadership of the party while expressing confidence that the peaceful spirit witnessed during the primaries would translate into greater progress and electoral success for the APC in Akwa Ibom State and beyond.

RE:Abandoned After Victory❓ Akwa Ibom Support Group Cries Out Over Alleged Snub SETTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT Ordinarily l would have allowed the fictitious story to slide in order not to dignify the faceless persons behind it but l feel it is pertinent to set records straight because we live in a society where silence implies acceptance. The story as carried by The Mail Newspaper is sensationally fabricated with no rationality to justify the false allegation levelled against me by the fictitious persons behind it who are out in an attempt to bring my reputation into contempt, odium and ridicule. One would have taught that as a professional expectation, the mail newspaper should have balanced the story before going to the press which was not done , thereby neglecting balance an essential part of objectivity which journalism is known for . As the State Coordinator of Unit Defenders in Akwa Ibom State, I have NEVER been given contract on behalf the group, which I am holding the position in trust. There is no instance since the existence of the group that I have used the platform to curry favour, obtain rice or Christmas packages and other incentives as baselessly accused. The truth is that with the movement of His Excellency, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D, to All Progressives Congress (APC), I called critical members to inform them that we should move in solidarity with His Excellency. In view of this, I thought it wise to align the group with our new party and of course, names are now metamorphic in nature. Therefore, whether UNIT DEFENDERS OR APC UNIT DEFENDERS, It adds or takes nothing away from our collective objectives and goals as firm believers in the ARISE AGENDA However, accusing the Governor of neglect is an outright show of ingratitude for all he has done in ensuring the recognition/existence of the group and above all, promising to reward the contribution of the group, which demands steadfastness and continuous support to His Excellency. I dissociate myself from the plan statewide protest because it is not wise. Rather, let's keep faith with the administration as the Governor will sure do the needful. My travail in politics is not greater than God. I have been through several blackmails. My arrest on 16th May 2024 when I was petitioned on a framed up similar rice racketeering issue and police from Force Headquarters, Abuja were deployed to Akwa Ibom State to arrest me for what I never knew about and along the line my life was threatened but that's a story for another day. Nevertheless, I urge politicians to refrain from playing politics of bitterness because the Governor is rewarding every group that worked for his victory in the last election. Lastly, please let the envy, jealousy and character assassination stop because we are one people and continue to support His Excellency, Gov Umo Bassey Eno, PhD till 2031. God bless Akwa Ibom State. Signed Hon. Uduak Godwin (King Pele)

*GOVERNMENT OF AKWA IBOM STATE* *January 30, 2026* *PRESS RELEASE* *HATE SPEECH AND PASTOR YINKA YUSUF’S VITRIOLIC OUTBURST AGAINST AKWA IBOM STATE* 1. The Akwa Ibom State Government has taken note of reactions across social media following the decision of the Akwa Ibom Property and Investment Company Limited (APICO) to deny the use of the Ibom Hall Grounds for a proposed crusade by Pastor Yinka Yusuf. 2. For the avoidance of doubt, the decision was not based on any prevailing security situation, as no such condition exists in Akwa Ibom State. Rather, it was informed solely by the vile, denigrating, and inflammatory comments made against the people of the State by Pastor Yusuf in a widely circulated video, in which he crudely stereotyped and insulted the collective identity, dignity, and intelligence of Akwa Ibom people. These comments constitute a direct affront to the approximately 7.9 million citizens of the State, understandably inflamed public sentiment, and must be condemned by all peace-loving, right-thinking members of society. 3. Such utterances are inciting, morally objectionable, and completely inconsistent with the essence of Christianity, which is founded on love, respect, humility, and the winning of souls, not the denigration of a people. Hate speech is not evangelism, and insults are not a substitute for doctrine. We do not, and will never, expect any Akwa Ibomite to be a member of a church, ministry, or crusade built on contempt for their identity. 4. It is instructive that Akwa Ibom State is led by a Governor who is himself a Pastor and who governs with Christian values and virtues, demonstrating daily that faith and public leadership can coexist with tolerance, responsibility, and respect for human dignity. 5. Historically, Akwa Ibom people have exemplified enlightenment, tolerance, and leadership for nearly a century. As far back as 1936, our forebears initiated the first community-sponsored overseas scholarship scheme in this part of Africa, producing the famed Merchants of Light—nation builders who returned to serve Nigeria with distinction. Among them were Sir Egbert Udo Udoma, the first Nigerian to earn a PhD in Law and later a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Chief Justice and Acting President of Uganda; Bassey Attah, Nigeria’s first postgraduate degree holder in Agriculture; and Ibanga Udo Akpabio, pioneer educationist and Minister of State for Education in the First Republic. 6. In the same spirit, Akwa Ibom indigenes were pioneers of Christian evangelism, taking the Gospel through the Qua Iboe Church from present-day Akwa Ibom to other parts of Nigeria, including Kogi State, with humility and respect for local cultures, never with insults, stereotypes, or contempt. Christianity in Akwa Ibom has always been expressed through service, sacrifice, and honour, not provocation. 7. The State has produced some of Nigeria’s most consequential national figures across different spheres. These include Wellington Bassey, Nigeria’s first commissioned military officer; Dominic Ekanem, the first Anglophone Bishop and Nigeria’s first Cardinal; Clement Isong, the first indigenous Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria; Air Marshal Nsikak Eduok, former Chief of Air Staff; and Philip Effiong, whose actions brought the Nigerian Civil War to an end. Since the return of democracy, this tradition has continued from Obong Victor Attah, to Chief Godswill Akpabio, now President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; then Mr. Udom Emmanuel; and now Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, who is deliberately positioning Akwa Ibom State on the global map. 8. Unarguably, Akwa Ibom is renowned for its warmth, hospitality, and openness. The State remains peaceful and welcoming a destination of choice for conferences, tourism, business, and religious activities. It boasts one of the best stadia at the sub-national level, now an official home of the Super Eagles of Nigeria; operates one of the best airlines in the country; and maintains an extensive, high-quality road network across all local government areas. 9. Globally respected evangelists regularly hold crusades in Akwa Ibom State. At present, the General Overseer of the Deeper Life Christian Ministry, Pastor W. F. Kumuyi, is in the State for a crusade, further underscoring Akwa Ibom’s openness and religious tolerance. Notably, Pastor Kumuyi formally notified the State and paid a courtesy visit to the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, at the Government House, Uyo. This is the expected standard of conduct, process, and respect from genuine men of God. 10. By contrast, Pastor Yusuf showed blatant disregard for due process and established protocol. He failed to engage relevant government agencies responsible for security, crowd control, and emergency response; did not consult the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) or the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) in Akwa Ibom State; and made unverifiable claims of having over 5,000 participants allegedly coming from across the world. The Government hereby challenges Pastor Yusuf to publicly provide credible proof of these claims. 11. Where foreign participants or large gatherings are involved, it is mandatory for organisers to notify appropriate authorities to enable Government to discharge its constitutional responsibility of safeguarding lives and property. Disrespect for process and protocol is unacceptable, particularly when combined with hate speech and deliberate provocation. 12. Taken together, these facts leave no doubt that Pastor Yusuf’s actions were not motivated by the preaching of love or unity, but by a conscious attempt to provoke, insult, and sow division. His conduct is therefore unacceptable and must be rejected by all peace-loving people. *ACCORDINGLY, THE AKWA IBOM STATE GOVERNMENT STATES CLEARLY, WITHOUT ANY EQUIVOCATION THAT WE DO NOT, WELCOME PASTOR YINKA YUSUF”S SUSPICIOUS CRUSADE IN THE STATE DUE TO HIS DENIGRATING ACTIONS, DEFAMATORY UTTERANCES, AND OPEN DISRESPECT FOR THE PEOPLE, VALUES, AND LAWFUL AUTHORITY OF THE STATE*. 13. While it is noted that Pastor Yusuf has since taken his crusade elsewhere, he owes the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State an unreserved apology for his deliberate incitement and denigration. The defamatory video has been referred to the Honourable Attorney-General of the State for review, and failure to tender such an apology may leave the Government with no option but to seek legal redress. 14. The Akwa Ibom State Government therefore fully supports the decision of the Akwa Ibom Property and Investment Company Limited to deny the use of the Ibom Hall Grounds for an event anchored on hate, disrespect, and incitement. 15. Akwa Ibom State remains peaceful. Our people are united, industrious, proud of their heritage, and confident in the developmental direction of the State under the leadership of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, whose ARISE Agenda continues to position Akwa Ibom as a beacon of progress, harmony, and enlightened leadership. Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah Hon. Commissioner for Information

Gov. Umo Eno Records Major Education Gains Under ARISE Agenda By Ubon Marcus Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has recorded significant achievements in the education sector through sweeping reforms and heavy investments under the ARISE Agenda, positioning public schools in the state to compete with global standards, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Essien Umoh, has said. Speaking on ARISE Update on Inspiration 105.9 FM recently, Prof. Umoh said the Governor’s education policy is anchored on expanding access, improving quality, and removing financial barriers, especially for children from less privileged backgrounds. According to him, the Umo Eno administration adopted a “bottom-to-top” approach, prioritising basic education as the foundation for long-term human capital development. Central to this strategy is the establishment of ARISE Model Primary Schools across the 31 local government areas of the state. “Instead of merely building one model school per local government, the Governor approved special intervention projects in several LGAs, meaning we now have more than 31 ARISE Model Primary Schools,” Umoh said. “These schools represent what public basic education should look like in the modern world.” He described the schools as fully equipped education ecosystems, with fenced campuses, modern classrooms, teacher residential quarters, libraries, ICT laboratories, sports and recreational facilities, 24-hour solar power, and reliable water supply, adding that early childhood development centres within the schools are fitted with digital learning tools comparable to those found in advanced countries. Beyond infrastructure, Prof. Umoh said the schools are entirely free, with the government providing uniforms, shoes, bags, exercise books and other learning materials at no cost to parents. “This is unprecedented in public education,” he explained. “Parents are now willingly enrolling their children in public schools because the quality is visible, and the cost burden has been completely removed.” The Commissioner noted that the improved learning environment has had a positive psychological impact on pupils, boosting confidence and preparing them for global competitiveness. “A child raised in a world-class environment will think and speak differently,” he asserted. “These schools are not just improving standards; they are shaping the mindset of the Akwa Ibom child for global relevance.” On the state’s free and compulsory education policy, the Professor explained that the Umo Eno administration has strengthened its implementation by paying subventions to public primary and secondary schools and covering major academic costs, including WAEC, NABTEB, science practicals and continuous assessment fees. “Government pays WAEC directly once students are registered,” he said, adding that Akwa Ibom now has one of the lowest numbers of out-of-school children in the country. Looking ahead to 2026, the Education Commissioner disclosed that the sector has an allocation of over ₦30 billion in the state’s “People’s Budget of Growth and Expansion,” describing it as unprecedented. He said the funding will consolidate gains at the basic level while expanding capacity in secondary and tertiary education to ensure a smooth transition for students. As part of manpower development, the commissioner said teachers’ welfare has been prioritised, noting the absence of salary arrears, regular payment of allowances, ongoing recruitment, and recent improvements in emoluments for tertiary institution staff. At the tertiary level, Umoh highlighted major expansions at Akwa Ibom State University, including the establishment of a Faculty of Law, health-related programmes such as Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science and Public Health, with plans underway for faculties of Pharmacy and Medicine. He also stated that the former College of Education has been upgraded to the Akwa Ibom State University of Education, now offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes up to the PhD level, while other institutions such as the State Polytechnic, College of Science and Technology, College of Nursing Sciences, and Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre continue to complement the state’s education ecosystem. Regarding student welfare, Umoh stated that Governor Eno recently increased bursary payments to ₦50,000 in response to prevailing economic realities. “This decision reflects the Governor’s deep love for education. As a PhD holder himself, he understands the needs of students and has consistently demonstrated commitment to their welfare.” The Education Commissioner concluded that the ARISE Agenda has progressed beyond policy declarations to tangible implementation, adding that the Governor’s vision is to build a disciplined and educated population capable of driving Akwa Ibom’s future development.

Your Excellency, My Governor, Merry Christmas, How Are You? By Clement Warrie Every December is a time for private reckoning—at least for me. I turn inward for a soul’s sabbath. The exercise is done to audit my spiritual and physical health. I unpack the year, take stock of my wins and losses. A total retrospective! I ask myself necessary questions. Am I well? Am I whole? Have I truly lived this year, or merely drifted through it? What mental or emotional baggage am I carrying that I need to set down before the new year? Did I contribute to something larger than myself? What’s the non-negotiable habit that would most likely improve my daily physical well-being going forward? The question are endless. They vacillate between reflection and concrete planning. This year, however, my self-care routine is on hold. My focus has shifted outward, settling on the man entrusted with the mandate of caring for millions of Akwa Ibomites. Governor Umo Eno. From a distance, he appears well kept, poised, assured and unruffled. Yet, I am drawn to look beyond the public persona to the man himself. Wondering about his health. How he is hanging on. How he manages a workload and schedule that is both consuming and exhausting. Finally, I feel compelled to wonder aloud. HOW ARE YOU, MY DEAR GOVERNOR? Forgive my intrusion. How is your physical, mental and spiritual health? May I pull a chair? It has been two and a half years of unrelenting sacrifice to the state. How do you keep it together? What’s the magic? What’s your anchor? How do you maintain balance, grace, clarity under such relentless weight? How do you remain standing and not fall apart amidst the never-ending political storm? What source of calm keeps you grounded in turbulent times? For insight, most people audit their year through simple routines. Yours, however, is a complex spreadsheet of endless commitments—town halls, delivery updates, Executive Council sessions, investor meetings, out-of-state conferences, and project supervisions that stretch deep into the dead of the night. What well of grace do you draw from? On Tuesday afternoon, December 9, your motorcade sped past me—a swift, orderly procession. It’s tempting to believe, after witnessing such spectacle, that power confers invincibility. That something so stately and regal is invulnerable to frailties and anguish. Yet, there was Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, renowned for strong will and courage. At the height of his reign, Lincoln penned a haunting letter to his friend. “If what I feel were distributed equally to the whole human family, there would not be one cheerful face on earth” he wrote. It’s deeply concerning to me when critics brandish falsehood on your face, when miscreants and lowlifes are recruited to insult and slander you with vile epithets. I wonder, do you cry out to God in despair, like Moses did, faced with Israelites’ rebellion in the desert? “What have I done to displease you, God, that you have laid the burden of all this people upon me? How are you when you crave quiet, but the world outside thunders with hysteria and disturbing headlines? As recently as last week, you were greeted by a malicious media report. It featured a reckless accusation of media repression from Mr. Misikilu Mojeed, Editor of so-called Premium Times, acting under the banner of the controversial International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria. Predictably, the media community rejected the report, calling it “senseless”. Not Governor Umo Eno they argued. Not the man who had appointed more media aides than any governor past or present; nor the man who only recently gifted brand new vehicles to outgoing Exco of the NUJ, Akwa Ibom Chapter. That same week, in a strong rebuke to the critics, the Federal Government of Nigeria presented you with Award of Excellence in Sustainable Development and Community Empowerment. A move many described as a powerful repudiation of Mr. Mojeed and the IPI's hatchet job. That award followed many others from reputable institutions across Nigeria, including top media organizations that measure impact in metrics of development, not yellow press. I should ask; does the weight of office make you miss the simple joys of being a private citizen? Do you ever worry; “This is too much. This job has taken a piece of me I cannot get back?” Finally, Sir, I must ask. Is the sacrifice worth the price? Here’s where I dread your answer. But if the answer is “yes,” then know this: that “yes” is why over 30,000 young Akwa Ibomites now hold the titles to their own small businesses. It is why 350 once-indigent families sleep soundly under the roofs of Compassionate Homes. It is why retired state workers have finally received pensions denied for nearly a decade or more. It is why rural communities now have model healthcare facilities and teachers lead lessons in smart classrooms. It is why farmers and rural traders can breathe easier, supported by business grants worth millions of Naira. And it is why many kilometers of rural roads and bridges now seamlessly connect farmlands and markets. Sadly, your achievements won't silence the opposition's noise. The reason is simple: they feed off the noise. But as their voices grow louder, I pray you remain resolute and committed to the mandate that found you worthy to serve. I hope the ARISE Agenda's vision for human development remains at the forefront of your mind, guiding you forward till 2031. Merry Christmas Y.E

No Repression, No Blacklist: Setting Mojeed and Okpo Straight on Akwa Ibom By Ubon Marcus I am sure that as of now, International Press Institute’s President, Musikilu Mojeed, has come to the realization that his so-called blacklisting of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, on unfounded allegations of press freedom violations, was an error of judgement as facts available in the public domain prove that instead of accusations, Governor Umo Eno deserves commendation. Mojeed’s claims of media repression in Akwa Ibom are unfounded as no journalist to the best of my knowledge, has been arrested, invited for questioning, detained, harassed, or intimidated by Akwa Ibom State Government since Pastor Umo Eno assumed office. Also, no media establishment has been shut down, sanctioned, restricted, or barred from government activities just as government ensures that access to information, events, and officials of the state remains open and unhindered. The routine reassignment of Government House correspondents in May 2025 misunderstood by Mojeed as a recall of Channels TV’s Government House Crew, despite repeated clarifications by Governor Umo Eno’s Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, smirks of mischief. More mischievous, is the recent Press Release of the Akwa Ibom State Peoples Democratic Party’s Caretaker Publicity Secretary, Barr. Ewa Okpo, whose futile attempts at casting aspersions on the exalted office of the Governor is unbecoming of a party’s public relations officer, as political communication among parties of opposing interests can still be done devoid of opprobrium. Barr. Okpo’s assertion that Governor Eno’s blacklisting by IPI is a colossal damage on Akwa Ibom’s ignores the facts on ground and is laced with “shenaniganism”. First of all, there is no official IPI Nigeria document describing Governor Umo Eno as “blacklisted”. The IPI Nigeria Secretariat has not released any formal statement or publication naming Governor Umo Eno as a violator of press freedom. The so-called “Book of Infamy” is not an institutional position as Mojeed’s erroneous claim relies solely on remarks attributed to him as an individual which of course is not without bias. The incident involving Channels Television correspondents has been repeatedly clarified. At no point were journalists barred from covering government activities in Akwa Ibom State. As of today, Channels Television still has a correspondent plus cameraman manning the government house beat, and the relationship between the station and the state remains robust and professional. The station continues to receive official releases, invitations, and access to state functions, and official coverage of same. No media house, local or national, has been prevented from covering the activities of the state government. Also, Governor Umo Eno has maintained an open, cooperative relationship with the media. Since assuming office, he has instituted regular media engagements, granted open access to pressmen across all political leanings, and introduced media-supportive initiatives. Comrade Amos Etuk, in whose tenure as Akwa Ibom State Chairman of Nigeria Union of journalists that Pastor Umo Eno assumed office as Governor, speaks glowingly of the Governor’s media friendly disposition which has earned the State Chief Executive several laurels amongst them, an Award of Excellence in Developmemt of Media Infrastructure by NUJ during their 70th Anniversary Celebrations, and another "Most Media Friendly Governor" Award also from NUJ at its 3rd Annual Milestone Recognition Event in October 2024, making him the first Nigerian Governor to be honoured by the national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists for two years consecutively as Nigeria's Most Friendly Media Governor. Governor Eno has also been honoured as Grand Patron of the Akwa Ibom State Council of NUJ. He has also been honoured by the Nigerian Guild of Editors. This is certainly not the profile of a leader who represses journalists. The Akwa Ibom State Governor has maintained a strong, consistent, and supportive relationship with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) long before and throughout his tenure. During his pre-nomination consultations, he visited the NUJ, donated ₦10 million for the roofing of its auditorium, and later committed his administration to fully completing the long-abandoned project which he eventually commissioned in August 2025. He has regularly engaged journalists through interactive sessions, addressed welfare concerns, and involved the NUJ in key governance activities such as the launch of the ARISE Agenda and his inaugural retreat in Lagos. Governor Eno has been recognized nationally as Nigeria’s Most Media-Friendly Governor for two consecutive years, hosted NUJ Thanksgiving in his hometown, and donated vehicles to NUJ leadership. He has also hosted major national media events, including the Nigerian Guild of Editors Conference and the Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. Throughout, he has supported journalists’ welfare and professional development, earning him widespread commendation. I align with Amos Etuk’s position that for a figure as IPI’s President to make such sweeping conslusions, his basis of judgement lacks ethical valuation. Hence, Barr. Okpo’s assertion just as that of Mr. Mojeed, lacks ethical valuation and should be disregarded by right thinking akwa ibom sons and daughters as Gov. Umo Eno’s reputation as well as that of akwa ibom, is virtuous. Worth mentioning here also, is the dismissal of IPI's claim of media repression by the State Chairman of NUJ, comrade Nsibiet John. One therefore wonders if it is possible for Messers Musikilu Mojeed and Ewa Okpo to shave a man’s head in his absence? If the journalists themselves operating in the state have come publicity to say they are neither repressed not intimidated in any form, on what premise is their conclusion based on? In the end, the facts speak louder than the unfounded allegations promoted by Mr. Mojeed and Barr. Okpo. Akwa Ibom journalists themselves—those who live, work, and report within the state—have openly affirmed that they are neither harassed, restricted, nor intimidated by the administration of Governor Umo Eno. His consistent engagement with the media, his long-standing partnership with the NUJ, and the numerous recognitions he has earned nationally all testify to a leader who values transparency, access, and press freedom. It is therefore clear that the narrative of “media repression” is not only baseless but ethically hollow. Right-thinking Akwa Ibom people must reject such misleading claims and stand firmly on the side of truth, acknowledging Governor Umo Eno’s proven record as a genuinely media-friendly and accountable leader.

UCCDA Clears Shanties and Illegal Structures Across Uyo Capital City The Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA) earlier today carried out a successful demolition and clearance exercise targeting shanties, illegal structures, and unauthorized market activities along major corridors of the city. The operation, which began in the early hours of Friday, covered key areas including Four Lanes, Itam Flyover, Ikot Ekpene Road, Nwaniba Road, and the Ibom Plaza axis. At Four Lanes, the UCCDA enforcement team cleared illegal developments erected on a government-designated green area within the Osongama Residential Estate. The site had been unlawfully converted into a mechanic workshop — an activity not permitted within the residential zone due to noise pollution, environmental hazards, and rising security concerns. In addition, several shanties and makeshift stalls housing street traders along Ikot Ekpene Road, Nwaniba Road, and around the Ibom Plaza area were dismantled to restore free pedestrian movement and improve the city’s aesthetics. According to the Authority, the indiscriminate display of wares along major roads and walkways poses a serious threat to safety, traffic flow, and the overall beauty of the capital city. Street trading, the agency noted, has become a growing menace that defaces the cityscape and obstructs ongoing urban renewal efforts. Similarly, at the Itam Flyover, the enforcement team cleared unauthorized market activities operating beneath the bridge. The area has now been cordoned off with caution tape in preparation for a planned beautification and landscaping project, similar to the one successfully completed at the Atiku Flyover. Speaking shortly after the exercise, the Executive Chairman of UCCDA, Sir Hon. Anietie Eka, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining order and enforcing the city’s development plan. He also gave special commendation to His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, for his visionary leadership and unwavering support to the Authority in line with the ARISE Agenda. “This exercise was not carried out to witch-hunt anyone, but to maintain order and protect the beauty and safety of our capital city. We are simply implementing the Governor’s lofty vision of repositioning Uyo as a clean, orderly, and investor-friendly destination. Government has already provided a designated Mechanic Village for artisans and auto technicians. We will not allow any form of illegal occupation or trading on green areas, under flyovers, or along major roads,” Eka stated. He further appealed to residents, traders, and developers to always seek necessary approvals from UCCDA before erecting or operating any structure, warning that all illegal developments risk demolition in line with the city’s master plan.

Gov. Eno Initiates Ultra-Modern Market in Ikot Ekpene ...tackles Poor Market Infrastructure, Empowers Informal Sector By Charles Akpan The Akwa Ibom State Government has acquired 41 hectares of land for the construction of an ultra-modern market in Ikot Ekpene, marking a major step by Governor Umo Eno toward improving market infrastructure and boosting the informal sector under his ARISE Agenda. The project, undertaken in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Special Duties, is aimed at addressing long-standing challenges faced by traders, including inadequate facilities and unsafe trading environments across the state. Speaking on ARISE Policy Thrust, a special radio programme on Premium 89.9 FM, Abak, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Market Affairs and Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Ibom Traders Association, Akparawa Idorenyin Raphael, commended Governor Eno for his proactive interventions in market development across several local government areas. He said the Governor has shown genuine concern for the welfare of traders through initiatives such as market reconstruction, conversion of traders’ loans into grants, and tax reforms designed to ease the financial burden on small-scale business owners. “Governor Umo Eno has demonstrated genuine concern for the welfare of traders. From market reconstruction to converting traders’ loans into grants, and introducing tax reforms that ease the financial burden on small-scale business owners, the Governor is transforming the informal sector,” Raphael said. According to him, the newly introduced tax reform exempts traders and small business operators with an annual turnover below ₦50 million from paying taxes. “About 89 percent of petty traders fall within this category,” he explained. “From January, they will no longer pay taxes. This is a huge relief that will stimulate business growth and economic stability in the informal sector.” He disclosed that the government has intensified fire safety education for traders to prevent market fire outbreaks and praised the collaboration between the Governor and the Nigeria Police Force, which has led to the official declaration of “forceful associations” in markets as illegal. These groups, he said, were notorious for extorting unsuspecting traders in some areas. “Through coordinated market monitoring, these fake groups are being dismantled, resulting in fairer prices and a safer trading environment,” he noted. Akparawa Raphael concluded by expressing traders’ satisfaction with Governor Umo Eno’s people-oriented governance, describing his administration as inclusive and transformational. “Traders across Akwa Ibom are happy with the Governor’s inclusive grants and genuine interest in their welfare. Pastor Umo Eno is delivering governance that touches the grassroots,” he added. The Ikot Ekpene Ultra-Modern Market project, when completed, is expected to provide a clean, safe, and well-organized trading environment with modern stalls, drainage, waste management systems, and fire safety facilities. It will empower thousands of traders and artisans, create new jobs, and enhance local revenue generation through a structured and transparent market system. The project will also contribute to urban renewal and attract visitors and investors to Ikot Ekpene, while the collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and the host community ensures inclusiveness and shared ownership.

From Monday, September 8, 2025, when the sports festival—last held 15 years ago—commenced, to Saturday, September 13, 2025, when it ended, the multi-sport event witnessed the participation of 3,600 athletes representing the 31 local government areas of the state. They competed for medals in 18 individual sports and five team sports, with Itu Local Government Area emerging as the overall champions after winning 70 gold, 17 silver, and 19 bronze medals. Beyond medals and trophies, the sports festival also carried a deeper meaning. For many participants, it was their first opportunity to perform before a crowd, represent their communities with pride, and bring to the fore, their dream of a future in professional sports. For the state government, the outstanding performances of participants in the State Sports Festival are an assurance that grassroots sports development is worth investing in. "We want to tap into this huge industry and discover new talents who would thereafter carry our flag at major sporting events," said Pastor Umo Eno, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, during his remarks at the Closing/Medals Presentation Ceremony of the Sports Festival. To demonstrate that resolve, Gov. Eno tasked the Ministerial Organising Committee of the just-concluded state sports festival to ignite sporting activities in primary and post-primary schools across the state through the revival of inter-house and inter-school sports competitions—a significant step towards grassroots sports development. During the state sports festival, the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium, Eket Township Stadium, and sports facilities in West Itam Secondary School were abuzz with the sound of whistles, chants of supporters, and the pounding of feet on tracks and football pitches. Sportsmen, determined to showcase their best talents, invested their best efforts in line with the spirit of the tournament, themed "Nurturing Talents, Promoting Tourism". But beyond the sports halls, pitches and tracks, the Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival created a ripple of economic activity that touched nearly every sector of the local economy. Food vendors, sportswear sellers, and suppliers of related items enjoyed booming sales, while transport operators thrived on the increased movement of athletes and fans across the city. Hotels and guest houses near sports facilities recorded increased bookings, as providers of goods and services tapped into fresh revenue streams. “I sold more plates this week as compared to other weeks,” said Ekaette Mfon, a food vendor near the Uyo Township Stadium. For transport operators, the story was the same, as more passengers going to and from stadiums and other venues of the tournament meant more revenue for them. "I met my weeky income target and even made some extra money", said Idorenyin, a minibus driver who plies Aka Road. In the end, the festival was not just about sports—it became a lively marketplace that boosted small businesses and reinforced the role of sports as a driver of local economic growth. By all standards, the Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival, Ibom 2025, was hugely successful. It awakened the spirit of unity, brotherhood, sportsmanship, and, most especially, peace, which the state is known for, and created pathways for exceptional talents to represent the state and Nigeria on bigger stages. As the "Torch of Unity" dimmed and the athletes dispersed back to their communities, one truth was clear: the Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival had become more than an event. It was a reminder of the power of sports to bring people together. The festival may have ended, but its echoes of cheers, songs, and the determination of young athletes will linger, fuelling the dreams of future stars who one day hope to carry the state’s name onto the world stage, just as an Akwa Ibom daughter, Prestige Archibong, who recently won the African U-19 Junior Scrabble Championship in Nairobi, Kenya, and Comfort James, an Akwa Ibom athlete who set a national 800-metre record at the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, have done. - Ubon Marcus serves as Special Assistant on Strategic Communication to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

OSONDU AHIRIKA: GOV UMO ENO REWARDING LOYALTY AND HARD WORK By Ukeme Peters (Pedro) The story of Reverend Osondu Ahirika’s recent appointment as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, on Ethical Orientation is a powerful case study on how hard work and loyalty should be rewarded. Just three days after Governor Umo Eno dissolved the Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission (EARCOM) Board on September 1, 2025, my friend, Rev. Osondu Ahirika, PhD, did something that stopped me in my tracks. Instead of fading into bitterness or wandering off into the wilderness to join the circus of critics, he wrote a fiery response against the proliferation of fake news targeting the Governor. This was a man who had just lost a prestigious position, yet his first instinct was to defend the integrity of the administration that had dissolved it. This was unexpected in a world such as ours, where loyalty is more often conditional and transactional, not genuine. That singular pushback on sponsored fake news against Governor Umo Eno by Rev. Ahirika drew admiration across the social media space. The self-styled Prelate of BMMBF Ministry, Prelate Leo Leo Umanah, was effusive in his admiration: “Nothing can make him switch support and allegiance. This man is patriotic. You have set a positive and moral standard and example for others to follow.” Then he waxed prophetic: “Truly, you are meek, and the meek will inherit the earth. What’s coming will be bigger than what you had missed and everyone will clap and cheer you.” It turns out Leo Leo Umanah was right. He has been proven so right that Joseph Atainyang, a journalist in Akwa Ibom, called the appointment “the most interesting news of the year.” The truth is sacrosanct: Dr. Osondu Ahirika was the stand-out performer in the recently dissolved EARCOM Board. His consistency, passion, and work ethic were top-notch. From one radio station to another, to television studios within and outside the state, he tirelessly propagated the ARISE Agenda of the Umo Eno-led administration. On all social media platforms and newspaper columns, he was equally present and impactful. Throughout his tenure, it is trite to say he gave EARCOM a face, footing, and relevance in society. He fought social vices, cultism, drug abuse, child trafficking, with the fervency of an evangelist. Thankfully, Governor Umo Eno noticed it. The people who are not biased took notice too. And the accolades that have trailed his new appointment prove it. Indeed, the internet has been awash with commendation posts for the Governor. While a few spin artists have tried to divert credit that doesn’t exist, the overwhelming consensus is clear: Governor Umo Eno has once again shown courage and fairness in rewarding loyalty and competence. Rev. Ahirika’s appointment is not surprising. It is a deserved reward for a man of exceptional character. But more importantly, it is a masterclass in leadership from Governor Umo Eno. In this decision, the Governor has demonstrated that his government values merit above all else; that loyalty, integrity, and competence are the truest credentials of indigeneity in the Akwa Ibom he is building—not ethnicity, tribe, or race. Those posting on social media that Ahirika’s appointment is an extension of an “Igbo agenda” got it completely wrong. This appointment is Governor Umo Eno’s characteristic way of rewarding hard work and showcasing inclusivity for all Nigerians. For the avoidance of doubt, Osondu Ahirika is a native son of Akwa Ibom—born here, married here, and rooted here for more than five decades. Governor Umo Eno is not alone in this forward-thinking approach to leadership. His counterparts in Edo, Cross River, and Abia all have non-indigenes in their cabinets. In Cross River, for instance, the Head of Civil Service, Mr. Benson Ojeikere, hails from Edo State. In Anambra, Governor Chukwuma Soludo appointed Mr. Joachin Achor from Abia State and Mr. Adebayo Ojeyinka from Osun State as Permanent Secretaries, among others. Still, in appointing Rev. Ahirika, the Governor didn’t just reward a supporter. The core of his principles and beliefs lies in inclusivity. These values are literally embedded in the name of his church—All Nations Christian Ministry International—in case anyone missed it. For Rev. Osondu Ahirika, the long walk to this appointment is a story of perseverance and personal sacrifice. He stood as a bulwark for the ARISE Agenda, fighting fake news with facts and passion, even when it was tough. There’s no radio or television station in Akwa Ibom he didn’t appear on. It was as if working twice as hard was the only guarantee to secure the gubernatorial seat for Governor Umo Eno. Thankfully, God was watching. And Governor Umo Eno was taking notes too. Many times, he was misunderstood. I witnessed this during the Ibom Air saga this past August, when his thoughtful, nuanced piece calling for grace for Comfort Emmanson sparked a social media inferno. When I called him to ask why he would risk such backlash, his calm response was classic: “I doubt if people read the piece I wrote to the end.” He was right. Rev. Ahirika is more than a clergyman and scholar—he is a political prophet. Years ago, long before anyone imagined Governor Umo Eno would emerge as leader, he told me with conviction: “Go and write it down: Umo Eno will be governor of Akwa Ibom State, and he is your kinsman.” I had doubts then. Today, I have none. So, this heartwarming story isn’t just about a well-deserved appointment. It’s about the wisdom of a leader with the vision to identify talent and the courage to reward it—regardless of tribe or race. Let us celebrate this appointment, for it reaffirms our shared belief that in Akwa Ibom, what you do for the state will always matter more than where you come from. Rev. Osondu Ahirika is not just Akwa Ibom by birth, but by spirit, culture, and service. His mastery of the Ibibio language, laced with deep adages, makes him indistinguishably one of us. For this, and for his decades of service, this appointment is not just deserved, it is destined.

*THE EROSION OF A PROUD HERITAGE... _and the conspiracy of silence_* ----------------------------------------------------------- ✍️ Patrick Edeke ------------------------------------------------------------- The recent, deeply disturbing display by a young woman from Esit Eket, who brazenly and publicly desecrated the cherished cultural norms of the Ibibio people, is not an isolated incident. It is a terrifying manifestation of a deeper crisis, a hydra-headed Medusa of moral decay threatening to turn our cultural foundations to stone. This audacious act is a direct consequence of a vacuum of authority, an indictment of the very men and traditional institutions entrusted with safeguarding our proud heritage. A newspaper publication once alleged that the men of Esit Eket were found wanting in the execution of their "manly responsibilities" as complained by their women, this dastard act by this poorly raised lady is a sorrowful validation of the quiet fears of Esit Eket's women, whose lamentations about a decline in male virility and responsibility now find a stark, public validation. Our ancestors and the scriptures are in tandem in relation to the adverse consequences associated with the shifting of ancient landmarks, for they are the spiritual and social pillars upon which our society stands. The Ibibio culture, with its profound respect for boundaries and meticulously defined gender responsibilities, has been publicly ridiculed by a person with a profound lack of cultural understanding. This shame does not rest solely on her shoulders; it is a collective burden borne by the traditional institutions of Esit Eket. The deafening silence of the Oku and other cultural custodians is a shocking abdication of duty, a tragic neglect of the sacred trust placed in their hands. As the proverb warns, "When the head of the family is weak, the house falls." This absurd spectacle is a clear sign that the very head of our cultural family is ailing, and the house is beginning to crumble. For a long time, the Office of the Governor has protected and projected the traditional institution with the highest esteem, and it is a painful reality that this institution has failed to protect the very office that has accorded it so much reverence. A reciprocity of protection and respect is required, especially when the exalted office of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State is under such an unwarranted attack. The ramifications of this brazen disrespect extend far beyond the borders of Esit Eket. The Office of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State is not merely a political position; it is the ultimate beacon of our collective authority, the highest symbol of our pride and sovereignty. To allow such indecent, incorrigible behavior to persist is a direct challenge to the dignity of this office and, by extension, a profound insult to the collective sensibilities of every Akwa Ibom person. This is not just an attack on Governor Umo Eno as a person, but a flagrant disrespect for the institution he represents. This Medusa of indecency, if left unchecked, will continue to spew its venom, tranquilizing our cultural ordinances and eroding the very essence of our identity. It must be nipped in the bud with swift and decisive action. We cannot afford to stand idly by and allow this cultural rot to set in. The spiritual and societal consequences of this flagrant disrespect for our ancestors are dire. This is a moment for intrinsic reckoning. The actions of one poorly-raised woman are a painful mirror reflecting a collapse of discipline and a breakdown of societal order. The traditional institutions of Esit Eket have been found wanting, and their failure is now a public disgrace. If the traditional institutions of Esit Eket are truly bereft of their responsibilities, then the entire traditional leadership of Akwa Ibom State must intervene to restore dignity and order. We must hold our leaders accountable and demand the restoration of the cultural pride that has long been our hallmark. If culture is the way of life of the people, then it is pertinent to rise because the cultural soul of Akwa Ibom State is at stake, and we must rise to defend it. BEING THE SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PASTOR UMO ENO, PhD, GOVERNOR, AKWA IBOM STATE, AT THE OPENING OF AKWA IBOM SPORTS FESTIVAL, UYO TOWNSHIP STADIUM, SEPTEMBER 8TH, 2025. PROTOCOL 1. We are gathered here this afternoon for the opening ceremony of the Akwa Ibom Sports Festival in fulfilment of a campaign promise I made that if elected, we will deploy resources to the promotion of sports and get our youths ready to compete and conquer the world in various sporting activities. 2. As I said when the Games Torch was handed over to me a little over a week ago, sports today is a multi-billion global industry and we must discover new talents, grow and expose them to the agents and managers at different levels and see them blossom and grow like others are currently doing across the sporting world. 3. Today, Bukayo Saka of Arsenal Football Club, whose parents came from the South-West part of Nigeria, Troost Ekong, whose parents have roots in our dear State, Etinan to be specific, WBO Heavyweight Boxing Champion, Moses Itauma, whom I had the pleasure of meeting and celebrating a few days ago in London, Ime Udoka, who became the Head Coach of one of the most storied basketball franchises in the United States, the Boston Celtics, have roots in our State, have defined excellence and success in their respective sporting areas. 4. There are many of these great sports stars waiting to be discovered, and this Sports Festival is aimed at discovering those talents who would eventually fly the flag of our dear State and bring us laurels. 5. For the first time in the history of our State, we have created the first stand-alone Ministry of Sports headed by an internationally recognized sporting personality and renowned journalist, Paul ‘Sports’ Bassey. With his knowledge and strategic insights, we are sure he will implement my vision for sports development in our State, and so far, he seems to be on the right path. 6. We have approved the establishment of a Sports Academy in Eket and have gone ahead with the purchase of world-class sporting equipment which would help our youths to train, compete and excel at international events. We have also developed sporting facilities including a 9 hole golf course, outdoor and indoor games at our audacious tourism location, the ARISE Resort in Uyo which is billed to open in December of this year. 7. The lack of modern equipment has always been one of the reasons for our inability to win laurels at major national and international sporting events. We hope with the provision of these tools, the story will now be different. 8. As the theme of this year’s event boldly states, “Nurturing Talents, Promoting Tourism”, we want to deploy all aspects of our popular culture, from music, sports, culinary expertise, rich cultural sites and heritage to showcase our State as the destination of choice, which we are already becoming and remain primed to attracting more tourists and visitors. 9. To the athletes who would be competing in the 18 categories at different locations - from Uyo and Eket Township Stadia respectively to Tower of Ivory, Ediene Abak, to Aka Community Secondary School - I urge you to put your talents and skills on full display, imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship, build friendship and win laurels for yourself and for the State. 10. It is therefore my happiness to declare the Akwa Ibom Sports Festival open in the name of God the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. Let the games begin!

DARK RITUALS IN BROAD DAYLIGHT: PRINCESS UDOITO DRAGS AKWA IBOM STATE GOVERNMENT BEFORE EKET SHRINE —————————— By Clement Warrie —————————— The disturbing footage of Princess Udoito summoning Pastor Umo Eno and the Government of Akwa Ibom State before the deities of Eket nation in a brazen, public display of wizardry, is mind-boggling, confusing and unsettling. To say reactions have been seismic, would fall woefully short of describing the reality. Dressed in a tight black dress, with raffia leaves knotted around her ankles and waiste, Udoito was seen standing before a tree, clutching a local bottle of gin, and shamelessly performing a dark, diabolical rituals. This was truly a bizarre and staggering scene. There was the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, a state named after the Almighty God, not a small god, dragged into a shrine before a global audience, shamed and stomped on like a common criminal. This would clearly have been a Nollywood low-budget drama, except that even they wouldn’t conjure up something this outlandish. And this is the 21st century! Let that sink in. Let’s face it, Governor Umo Eno is not the only victim here. Princess Udoito’s actions have dragged us all to her dark shrine. All of us, the Christian population of Akwa Ibom State! And she has smeared our sovereign integrity with mud. Let’s be clear, the issue at hand goes beyond the right to dissent. Udoito’s right to disagree with Governor Umo is her inalienable rights but her current antics aren’t dissent. It is a moral breakdown. It shows the folly of an individual who believes that the currency of intimidation is found not in logic or dialogue but in the dark practices of the occult. Unfortunately for Udoito, the people of Akwa Ibom State will not stand back and let her cast her evil spell on this state in broad daylight. They will rise and defend their land against the encroachment of any dark force. And they will win. To attempt to harm anyone let alone a occupying the highest seat of responsibility in the land through dark manipulations is not only disgusting but abominable. Udoito must understand her actions go beyond moral transgression and has entered into the realm of criminal violations. The law, under Section 210 and 213 of the criminal code, is clear on this; any threats to harm via juju, diabolical or supernatural means are serious criminal offenses attracting up three to four years in prison. They law understand that such actions can potentially impact public safety and order. She must realize she has crossed healthy lines of political disagreements to lit a dangerous fire that may be impossible to put out without consequences. To ignore and turn the other cheek too, will set a dangerous precedent and perhaps plunge our society back into the dark ages, to a point where we risk opening our back doors to the past and the dark cultures we have labored to shut out for generations. We must not allow citizens to adopt spiritual threats and blackmail as tools to intimidate or cause fear and distress or permit a rogue element to set us back. drag us back into the dark ages, to the point This state and its people have moved away from diabolical cultures which were once used to silence and scare people, to embraced education, faith in the Almighty God and law as our guides. We must not become that society where native doctors and occult practitioners, not policy makers and technocrats are our society’s conscience and mirrors. I appeal, therefore, to the state security agencies to hold Princess Udoito accountable. We must not allow threats involving diabolical means to thrive in our society. We cannot tolerate, accept, or condone this behavior. For Udoito, hers is not merely moral decay; it's something far worse, a dark, sinister plot to destroy the seat of power in Akwa Ibom State and bring it into disgrace through the use of occult practices I will follow this up with a formal petition to the Nigerian police. The consequences of ignoring Udoito’s behavior can potentially lead to the breakdown of law and order or even death. The governor of Akwa Ibom state, Pastor Umo Eno is a man of peace, but he is not without die-hard supporters who may interpret Udoito’s behavior as an affront. And die-hard supporters are unpredictable. In conclusion, I urge everyone to remain calm. Who knows, the self-styled Princess of the dark occult may be already be on a self destructive journey. They say who the gods wish to destroy, they make mad. To those who applaud her show of shame, be aware, the gods possess a strange sense of humor. They don’t punish the mischievous, they hand them enough shovel to dig their own graves. Clement Warrie writes from Nsit Ubium nation.

𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐔𝐁𝐄𝐂/𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐄𝐅 𝐄𝐧𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐧: 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐧𝐨 𝐢𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞, 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 By AmanamHillary Umo-Udofia On a breezy Thursday morning in Uyo, the usually serene premises of Christ the King Model Primary School came alive with conversations, laughter, and anticipation. From government officials to traditional rulers, educators to civil society advocates, all gathered with a shared purpose: to ensure that no child is left behind in the pursuit of education. The occasion was the flag-off of the 2025/2026 South-South/South-East Regional Enrollment Drive and Campaign to Reduce Out-of-School Children, jointly organized by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). For Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, the event symbolized far more than a routine enrollment campaign - it was a reaffirmation of his administration’s vision of free, inclusive, and quality education for every child in line with the ARISE Agenda. Represented by the State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ubong Umoh, Governor Eno declared that neither the circumstances of one’s birth nor economic status should foreclose a child’s legitimate right to education. He described education as a powerful social equalizer and a life-changing tool capable of lifting children out of poverty while securing the state’s collective future. Over the past two years, Governor Eno’s administration has approached the challenge of out-of-school children with deliberate, holistic strategies. Beyond sustaining the long-standing free education policy from primary to secondary levels, the government has invested heavily in infrastructure, teacher development, and learning resources. Thirty-one model schools are under construction across all local government areas, with twelve completed and nineteen at various stages of completion. The state is also establishing world-class model secondary schools across the three senatorial districts, designed to provide a seamless transition for learners. Yet, the government’s efforts extend beyond bricks and mortar. Free books, uniforms, shoes, and school bags are now standard provisions for pupils, reducing financial burdens on parents. Teachers are being retrained and hundreds of new ones to be recruited, all equipped with modern teaching techniques to match global best practices. These interventions, the governor revealed, have already boosted school enrollment figures significantly, positioning Akwa Ibom as one of the leading states tackling the out-of-school children crisis. Governor Eno commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiating the nationwide enrollment drive and praised the strategic collaboration between UBEC and UNICEF. He described the effort as a critical investment in Nigeria’s human capital development and a necessary step toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4, ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all. At the event, stakeholders from across the education ecosystem lent their voices to the campaign. Rt. Hon. Anietie Etuk, PhD, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), pledged to intensify enrollment campaigns within Akwa Ibom. The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) lauded the initiative but called for more teacher recruitment to match the rising enrollment figures. The Chairman of the State Technical School Board, Godwin Udom, identified poverty, cultural norms, and environmental factors as major drivers of out-of-school children and applauded the state government’s efforts to tackle these root causes. Traditional institutions also pledged their support. Represented by the Village Head of Uyo, the Paramount Ruler of Uyo urged community leaders to sensitize parents and guardians while advocating for the reintroduction of school feeding programmes to encourage attendance. Similarly, Comrade Nsibiet John, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Akwa Ibom, appealed to the Federal Government to pay greater attention to rural schools and challenged teachers to uphold discipline and values in shaping young minds. One of the most symbolic moments of the day was the distribution of free school uniforms, bags, and books to newly enrolled pupils, a gesture that underscored the government’s commitment to removing barriers to education. Officials also issued a firm directive in line with the free education policy of the state: no school is permitted to collect registration fees from pupils. Head teachers found violating this policy, they warned, would be sanctioned and demoted back to classroom teaching. With over 20 million out-of-school children nationwide, the UBEC/UNICEF initiative launched in Uyo represents a bold, collective step towards reversing the tide. By combining federal policy, state-led innovation, and community-driven advocacy, Akwa Ibom is setting the pace for what is possible when all stakeholders work together. For Governor Umo Eno, the vision is clear: education is the strongest weapon against poverty and inequality. “Education,” he insists, “is how we secure our collective future. We owe it to every child to open the doors of opportunity as wide as possible.” As the enrollment drive sweeps through the South-South region and beyond, Akwa Ibom stands as a model of what can be achieved when political will, strategic investment, and communal responsibility converge. In Governor Eno’s determination lies a powerful message - no child in Akwa Ibom will be left behind. AmanamHillary Umo-Udofia, PhD, is a Special Assistant on Media to the Akwa Ibom State Governor

EMMANUEL SAM, THE GUIDE NEWSPAPER AND CEASELESS CAMPAIGN OF FALSEHOOD ——————————- By Clement Warrie —————————— In what has become a tragic pattern of deceit, The Guide Newspaper yesterday launched a most audacious assault on Governor Umo Eno by falsely reporting that key appointees in his administration had resigned their appointments. This fabrication, from its first word to its last, came from the mind of someone who is depraved, unstable and appears to have lost any claim to sound journalistic values. To put it bluntly, Emmanuel Sam, publisher of The GUIDE Newspaper, cannot be trusted with a tool as powerful as a newspaper. His actions recently suggest a disturbing detachment from truth, marked by “loss of lie detection apprehension”, a psychological phenomenon that can lead to habitual dishonesty, deception, and manipulation. To be clear, the famous neuroscientist researcher, Tali Sharot, has an answer to such a troubling behavior when he stated that “deception and dishonesty escalates”. Often starting in small, infinitesimal doses then graduating to full blown lies. Each subsequent lie making the liar feel less inhibited as they become desensitized to the act of lying. This is clearly, Emmanuel Sam’s dilemma. As it stands, Sam has, (this is to his misfortune) lost the only currency of trade a newspaper has, which is trust. He has spent it all on personal vendetta. Now, with the coming out to clear the air by those Emmanuel Sam accused of resigning their appointments in Umo Eno’s Administration, it is clear the Guide newspaper has become a mere pamphlet for peddling lies and bitterness rather than a credible news source and henceforth will be dismissed by the reading public, ridicule on the newsstand and used only a wrap for aboki’s suya. The sickening behavior of Emmanuel Sam, as exhibited through his publication, echoes the disgraceful legacy of William Randolph Hearst, the American businessman, who became the infamous godfather of "yellow journalism." Hearst, much like Sam understood that news could be weaponized not for public good, but for personal power and vendetta. His famous directive to an illustrator in Cuba "You furnish the pictures, and I'll furnish the war” became the poster child of unethical journalism. Hearst’s papers traded in sensationalism, exaggeration, and outright fabrication to sway public opinion and attack his enemies. But history records that, at the end, Heast, was greatly despised by the public while his newspaper cooperation lost credibility. Emmanuel Sam must understand that there is no place in the world for rogue journalism driven by personal grievances and vendetta. It's public knowledge that he lobbied for an appointment into Governor Umo Eno's administration, and when he was denied due to concerns about his character, integrity, or professional competence, his frustration turned into a crusade against the administration Pastor Umo Eno is indifferent to emotional sentiments when considering anyone for appointment into his administration. He places high premium on character and competence. So, it is clearly nobody’s fault that Emmanuel Sam who was barely tolerated as an appointee of government during the administration of Udom Emmanuel should have an axe to grind with Governor Umo Eno. As it stands, Emmanuel Sam and his controversial newspaper should hasten to retract their malicious falsehood and issue a full front-page apology to the government and the people of Akwa Ibom state. Failure to do so will confirm what many already suspect: that The Guide is not a newspaper, but a purveyor of propaganda and a terrible tool to stir strife and cause unnecessary distraction in the state. The consolation is that while, The Guide is busy reporting on events in a parallel universe, the Umo Eno administration remains poised to launch the next transformative vision of the ARISE agenda which is the Tree Crop Revolutions which will move Akwa Ibom beyond oil and gas and build a sustainable economic future.

PAT AKPABIO: A PRINCESS IN SEARCH OF A THRONE By Ukeme Peters (Pedro) —-The world is not ready for someone so poorly gifted. Have you watched Pat Akpabio’s recent volley of insults on our dear Governor? Have you noticed how uncouth, desperate, despicable and wild she has become of late? And have you wondered why this behavior have sparked widespread criticism? And why many people are concerned she may be going insane? But maybe Pat Akpabio should be applauded for the simple reason that she is alive and well. Because it takes a different kind of talent to be totally unaware of your shortcomings and failures and still breathe fine. Let's pay homage to this strange woman who has killed everything she laid hands on and perfected a con so rare it defies conventional understanding. While King Midas turned all he touched to gold, our own dear Princess possesses a startling gift; a reverse alchemy so absolute that everything she lays her hands on doesn't just fail, it dies! No, no! These are bold claims. Don’t take my words for it. The facts are there. She owned a supermarket, poured millions into it and for a while, it fed her hubris, but it withered and died. This didn’t depress her. Pat is cunning, not bankrupt. She didn’t turn and flee the supermarket premises, no, she did the unthinkable. She turned the empty space of the supermarket into a church and replaced commodities with human wares! Ingenious! But wait, that died too! Heard the reason was that she turned the place into a theater of the absurd! God cannot be mocked. Now, this is where it gets messy After the charade of practicing Christianity ended, she turned to voodoo. Yes, you heard right. Voodoo. Dark art. It would have been ok, if she got the pattern right; Maybe repenting from Voodoo to church, going from dark to light, sin to salvation. But don’t blame Pat for this indiscretion. Everything she does is upside down. She is not a creature of the right patterns. She is chaos. So what happened to the voodoo adventure? That failed too. The spirits, who are notoriously poor judges of human character, failed to see her genius, so they fled her fiefdom! It gets messier here. With no where to go, and despised by man and abhorred by the spirits , Pat would also fail as a choir girl. Don’t look at me like that. (You used to see her 10/20 size billboards by 4 lanes traffic light) let’s be honest, to call Pat a musician would be a dishonor to the profession. She has no musical talent, no grasp of the basic concepts of music at all. I say this with a broken heart. I love music and I genuinely wished she had the talent. So what did Pat do? She tiptoed out of town with her kpankolo musical instruments. And if you are ever curious and want to ask who Pat is? Well, the answer is surprisingly simple; Pat is a pretender, a con artist without any form of talent. Pat’s failures are not dry runs, it must be said! It is a consistent, terrifying slew of misfortunes! And she is unaware of this, which makes her case not just a personal tragedy but a public menace. Because, while her unparalleled failure would be enough for most people, it is merely the opening act for Her Highness. It goes to show, she is not just a wild con artist, but a dangerous grifter who is skillful only at repackaging of her own irrelevance. Now let’s rephrase and put that in civilized context after all, very often, I have heard Princess Pat Akpabio feign queens English! So here goes,; “Thus, it must be concluded that Pat Akpabio is an individual devoid of legitimate accomplishment, whose various endeavours have each culminated in catastrophic failure, succumbing to an altogether predictable combination of profound ineptitude and grandiose delusions”. But do not write Pat off just yet! Pat has more secrets in her infamous playbook. Pat’s new tricks is to emasculate great men and then sell them viagra or something equally potent she is peddling online after her man-killing rants, as if to mock them, to say, look, I took away your manhood, but I’m a good person, so I’m selling you this sex enhancing drug to restore you and make you feel better about yourself. If this isn’t a classic, overcompensating evil genius tactics, I wonder what is! But is Pat completely worthless? No not our Pat! She is just a misunderstood genius, who must get the recognition she truly deserves And she is a beautiful woman who loves to watch herself in the mirror. She loves to hear the sound of her own voice. Loves to strut around mimicking sounds and human. She did this so often till she figured; I might as well go to the the social media with this. Maybe, finally, this will bring me glory! And she did. The first target of her rants were the family members. Oh, how she burned the roof of Senator Godswill Akpabio. And this was where her tragicomedy catapulted into something genuinely dangerous. She became a walking, talking fallacy, armed with a smartphone and a bottomless pit of grievance. A chaos agent, convinced she is somebody. The Princess evidently expected Sen. Godswill Akpabio and wife to match to her door with with contracts and privileges from the commonwealth of Niger Delta. But when Minister Godswill, chose instead to focused on ministerial matters, she took it as a personal slight. The audacity of them, focusing on the Niger Delta’s development when they could have been catering to her! Ignored and disappointed, she turned her attention to Governor Umo Eno immediately the man took office, appointed herself his unofficial adviser. The government’s failure to immediately ratify this appointment was, clearly, its first misstep. Indeed, hell hath no fury than a woman scorned they say. Therefore, Princess become a nuisance, hurling insults at anything that moves or breathe. Don’t be deceived. Her continuing, venomous rants against the state are not the critiques of a concerned citizen. Pat is a con artist. When the Minister and now Senate President ignored her royal decrees for contracts, it was lèse-majesté. When Governor Umo Eno failed to ratify her self-appointment as Unofficial Adviser, it was interpreted as a declaration of war against her delusional authority. So be vigilant. Do not applaud the jester; to engage with her is to validate a dangerous delusion. A desperate human searching for a throne will happily, (if the peace we enjoy in this state falters) use the rubble to build her evil castle Over all, I think Pat Akpabio is a psychological wreck; a cocktail of chaos vacillating between delusions of grandeur and narcissistic personality disorder. This is a lethal combo by the way. And then if you ever read about the Dunning-Kroger effect, which is a sort of a cognitive bias where people with low ability overestimate their ability, then you’d understand Pat and why she seems deprived of the metacognition skill required to be sane.

UYO TOWN SQUARE MEETING: GOV ENO EMPOWERS 1187 BENEFICIARIES WITH N492 MILLION GRANTS Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has empowered 1187 persons with N492.7m farm, trade, and business grants in Uyo Federal Constituency. The Governor disbursed the grants at Uyo Federal Constituency Town Square Meeting held at the Ibom Hall grounds in Uyo. The Governor who was elated by the massive turn out said 276 constituents were successfully selected to benefit from the ARISE Farmers grant, 628 for the ARISE Traders grant, 263 for the ARISE Equipment support scheme, while eight persons benefited from the N5 million MSME grant, and 12 got cars and mini buses. Governor Eno said within the two years of his administration, 116 projects, including roads, health centres, compassionate homes, elderly home, and primary schools have been executed across the Federal Constituency which comprises Uyo, Uruan, Nsit Atai and Ibesikpo Asutan LGAs. He said the meeting was to receive the Needs document of the Constituency in order to include them in the 2026 Peoples' budget, and to give grants to the constituents, as would be done in all other federal constituencies. The Governor said the selection process was powered from the ARISE Youth Employment portal and that the beneficiaries were qualified citizens of the Federal Constituency. Governor Eno who appreciated the people of Uyo for the massive turn out, said it was indicative of their status as the landlords of Government House, and also appreciated the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah for leading his people to unite with the centre, assuring everyone of more development projects. The State Chief Executive said he received the needs document from the people of Uyo with an open heart, and promised to treat it accordingly, based on availability of funds. Governor Eno appreciated the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal administration for making funds available to States, which, according to him, has made it possible to execute the empowerment scheme, the entrepreneurship support and different development projects. He directed the Ibom Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development Center (Ibom LED) to commence the process of training another 50 persons each from all the recognised female and male support groups, for another set of empowerment. The Governor also announced the federal government-funded ward development empowerment initiative for 100O persons per ward, and urged the people to return to their respective wards to ensure that entrepreneurs at their respective wards partake in the programme. He called on the people to support the President for a second term in 2027 as well as other APC candidates in the 2027 elections, to further the synergy with him, having enjoyed an overwhelming endorsement as sole candidate for Governorship in the 2027 elections. Governor Eno who has since inception of his administration remained committed to celebrating Akwa Ibomites who are making impacts in their different careers across the world, also took out time to celebrate a daughter of Uyo Federal Constituency, Uduak Otu Ita, Deputy Commandant, Nigeria Police College, Oji River, Enugu, who was recently promoted to the rank of Commissioner in the Nigerian Police Force, and presented her with a brand new SUV, saying that the stride was a source of encouragement and motivation especially for the girl child. He urged everyone to continue to remain united with a focus on the Akwa Ibom project, warning against insulting any leader irrespective of political affiliation, stressing that a united and progressive Akwa Ibom supercedes every other consideration. "We want to continue to ask you to remain united. Please don't abuse anybody and when people abuse you, don't answer them. We want to continue to build this state for our generation and generations unborn," he said. Presenting the needs document, the Secretary to the State Government and political leader of Uyo, Prince Enobong Uwah, appreciated the Governor for the impactful development projects in the Federal Constituency, adding that they have been enjoying double of the projects executed in other federal constituencies, and assured of more support in the 2027 election. Earlier while setting the tone for the event, the Director General of campaigns, Ambassador Assam Assam, said having moved round the State with the Governor during the 2023 electioneering campaign, he was proud that the Governor has kept to his campaign promises. On their parts, the local government chairmen, Commissioners, House of Assembly members and Paramount Rulers from the Federal Constituency, as well as non indigenes, appreciated the Governor for all his impactful strides in their domain, and assured him of their continuous support. High point of the event was the unanimous adoption of the Governor as the sole Governorship candidate for Uyo Federal Constituency in the 2027 election following a motion moved and seconded by Rt. Hon. Mark Esset, and Hon. Ubong Attah respectively.

𝐀𝐤𝐰𝐚 𝐈𝐛𝐨𝐦’𝐬 𝟕𝟔 𝐎𝐢𝐥 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐬: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐬 𝐎𝐛𝐨𝐠𝐨’𝐬 𝐀𝐛𝐢𝐤𝐮 𝐌𝐲𝐭𝐡 By AmanamHillary Umo-Udofia Linus Obogo’s article, “Cross River’s 76 Oil Wells and the ‘Abiku’ Paradox,” is undeniably eloquent and steeped in mythic imagery. But when stripped of metaphor and reduced to facts, it is also a troubling mix of historical perversion, legal misrepresentation, and rhetorical manipulation. It dresses sentiment as truth, mythologizes a settled legal matter, and, most dangerously, threatens to exacerbate needless discord between two sister states that should be building bridges, not burning them. Let’s begin with the central falsehood: that Cross River State was “robbed” of 76 oil wells by Akwa Ibom. This claim is not only factually incorrect but deliberately deceptive. In his well-crafted sophistry, Obogo attempts to rewrite history by painting a lawful and evidence-based process as some grand theft engineered by Akwa Ibom. The truth is far simpler: Akwa Ibom never took what wasn’t rightfully hers. The oil wells in question lie within Akwa Ibom’s maritime boundaries as determined by scientific demarcation, verifiable geographic data, reinforced by constitutional processes and the judgment of the Supreme Court. In 2012, Nigeria’s apex court issued a definitive ruling: Cross River State ceased to be a littoral state following the ceding of the Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon under the Green Tree Agreement and International Court of Justice (ICJ) directive. As such, it lost any basis to claim offshore oil wells. This legal reality did not arise from conspiracy, but from international diplomacy and the recalibration of Nigeria’s maritime boundaries. Yet Obogo ignores this context and instead directs his ire at Akwa Ibom, irresponsibly stoking regional grievance with a narrative that collapses under factual scrutiny. Obogo’s use of Abiku - a Yoruba mythology tragic spirit-child who returns again and again to torment its mother may be poetic, but it is ultimately misplaced and misleading in this context. Comparing Cross River’s loss of maritime rights to an Abiku myth distorts a legitimate geopolitical and judicial process into an irrational curse. It casts Cross River as a helpless victim of fate, rather than a state navigating the outcome of an international treaty. More critically, it romanticizes a legal issue and weaponizes cultural imagery to stir resentment against Akwa Ibom, which has simply defended its rightful entitlements within the law. Oil wells are not spirit-children wandering between worlds - they are fixed, measurable national assets governed by cartography, constitutional law, and federal oversight. Akwa Ibom did not inherit them through mystical reincarnation or bureaucratic magic; it claimed them because the facts, maps, and laws placed them squarely within its jurisdiction. In this case, Abiku has been conclusively laid to rest and no amount of rhetorical mischief can resurrect it. Obogo goes further to accuse respected federal institutions like the National Boundary Commission (NBC) and the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) of complicity in what he terms a “heist wrapped in bureaucracy.” This is not only baseless but profoundly irresponsible. These institutions followed established legal processes and technical evaluations rooted in Nigeria’s constitutional and judicial frameworks. They did not “gift” anything to Akwa Ibom but acted on clear legal direction, applying cartographic science and judicial authority to determine rightful ownership. To suggest otherwise is to undermine national institutions and insult the integrity of governance itself. It is even more morally reprehensible that Obogo would brand Akwa Ibom as a “beneficiary at a rigged auction” - a deeply insulting and unfounded assertion. Labeling the state’s firm, evidence-based defense of its position as “gloating” or “arrogance” is a deliberate mischaracterization aimed at demonizing a state that has simply upheld the rule of law. Elder Aniekan Umanah, Akwa Ibom’s Commissioner for Information, was not boasting when he described the matter as “sealed” and “settled” - he was stating the obvious as reiterated by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom, SAN: that the Supreme Court has spoken, and federal agencies have acted accordingly. When did it become arrogance to defend the outcome of a lawful process? Should Akwa Ibom remain perpetually apologetic or open to endless political negotiations over a matter that has been conclusively adjudicated? Justice does not become unjust simply because it does not favour Cross River. Obogo’s attempt to use the citing of military and public infrastructure like the Eastern Naval Command or the Nigerian Ports Authority in Calabar as evidence of maritime status is equally misleading. Strategic infrastructure does not equate to territorial entitlement. One can host a naval base inland. But to claim offshore oil wells, a state must have a legally recognized maritime boundary, something Cross River no longer possesses. Perhaps most troubling is Obogo’s reckless invocation of infamous court decisions like Plessy v. Ferguson and Dred Scott to suggest that the Supreme Court’s ruling in favour of Akwa Ibom is akin to judicial atrocity. Such comparisons are inflammatory and intellectually dishonest. They diminish the gravity of real historical injustices and falsely equate them to a ruling grounded in law, fact, and international diplomacy. Cross River’s disappointment, while understandable, does not equate to systemic injustice. There was no theft, no fraud, and certainly no moral crime but only a judicial conclusion rooted in undeniable geopolitical change. Akwa Ibom will continue to stand by the truth, defend its entitlements, and refuse to be shamed into silence by the emotional blackmail of political rhetoric. To put it succinctly, the 76 oil wells matter is not akin to an ‘Abiku’ spirit that Obogo and his kinsmen can invoke at will to torment the peace loving people of Akwa Ibom State. It is the story of a child returning home finally, and rightfully to where it has always belonged. AmanamHillary Umo-Udofia, PhD, is a Special Assistant on Media to the Akwa Ibom State Governor.

UCCDA demolishes unapproved building; warns against illegal construction. A two-storey building under construction near the Nwaniba Water Fountain was demolished today by the Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA). According to the agency, the demolition became necessary after multiple warnings and markings were issued, indicating the building's lack of approval. UCCDA had earlier denied approval for the project due to several violations of critical town planning regulations. Key infractions in the building included failure to maintain the required setback from a high-tension power line in front of the property and the presence of a telecommunication mast behind the site. In addition, the structure was erected without any engagement with UCCDA, a move the agency described as a blatant act of impunity. UCCDA emphasized that without proper approval, the structural stability of the building could not be guaranteed, prompting its demolition to safeguard public safety. The Agency reiterated its commitment to enforcing planning standards. It also warned developers to seek necessary approvals before commencing any construction to avoid similar actions. The demolition serves as a stern reminder of UCCDA’s zero-tolerance policy on illegal construction.

JOINT PRESS STATEMENT BY THE COALITION OF NIGERIAN YOUTH LEADERS We are compelled to address the Nigerian public due to the egregious actions of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, whose despicable assault on the highest legislative body in Nigeria has left us outraged, disappointed, and urging for immediate action. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan's blatant disregard for the rules of the Senate is a slap in the face to the institution and its members. Her consistent attempts to undermine the authority of the Senate and its Presiding Officers, culminating in baseless accusations of sexual harassment, demonstrate a disturbing pattern of behavior. This is not the first time she has leveled such false allegations against prominent individuals, and it is imperative that we call out this serial accuser for her reckless and damaging actions. The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Natasha has found an unwholesome hobby of accusing men of sexual harassment the moment there is a disagreement, and it is very sad that the nation rewarded her by allowing her occupy such a dignified office that is totally unfit for such characters. We, the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders, will not stand idly by while Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan continues to insult the intelligence of Nigerians and undermine the institutions that govern our nation. Today being the International Women’s Day, we find it imperative to remind Nigerians of the role of Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan in silencing women and ensuring that genuine victims of abuse and harassment never get heard. Natasha who should have been a beacon of hope and a symbol of inspiration to Nigerian women, has chosen the ignoble path of blackmail and character assassination whenever the pendulum of life does not seem to be swinging her way. If we allow her to continue unstopped, genuine victims of abuse and harassments will never be able to find their voice. Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan has proven to be a bad example to her generation and the ones after. And the world will remember her for her manipulative and unscrupulous tendencies. We must protect our daughters, sisters, wives and the entire female population of our dear nation from bad influences like Natasha. Her actions are ignominious, disgraceful, dishonorable, ludicrous, preposterous, nonsensical and completely unworthy of the office of a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. On the call for the resignation of the President of the Nigerian Senate, we must be careful not to set a dangerous precedent for our dear country. Does it mean that if I want the Governor of my State to step aside, I could simply cause a similar against him and expect him to resign? We must thread with caution. We therefore sound this stern warning to Natasha’s co-travelers to quit undermining the leadership of Nigeria’s Legislature or face the wrath of the Nigerian public. The likes of former Senate President Bukola Saraki have forgotten so soon that during his tenure as Senate President, he was indicted in a case of the notorious Offa bank robbery where a number of people lost their lives in the process. He is yet to explain to Nigerians his level of involvement in that heinous crime, Nigerians are not stupid, let him explain himself before attacking Senate President Godswill Akpabio who is 100 times more honorable than he will ever hope to be. Most importantly, we must stand by Nigerian women by encouraging noble and honorable women to participate in politics and take up leadership positions in the country, especially the legislature. We seize this opportunity to commend our First Lady, Her Excellency, Distinguished Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her unbiased position, and Distinguished Senator Ireti Kingibe for standing by the truth. We need more women of their kind in leadership positions in this country. Most importantly, we commend the Nigerian Senate for taking steps to sanitize and bring normalcy to the Senate. We therefore demand the following. Our Demands: 1. We demand that Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan immediately retract her false allegations and apologize to the Senate President and the institution as a whole. The Senate is not a Night Club, we must protect the dignity of the hallowed chamber. 2. Commuters in A'Ibom commend UCCDA for ongoing demolition of illegal structures in Uyo Capital City Commuters in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital, have commended Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), for the ongoing demolition exercise aimed at clearing illegal structures and shanties erected on government right of way along major roads within the capital city. The commuters, including tricycle and mini bus operators, gave the commendation on Wednesday while exchanging views with journalists during another round of demolition exercise along Abak Road, Uyo. The commuters said although the demolition appeared a bit disruptive to the smooth human and vehicular movement along the affected road, the temporary inconveniences were in the permanent interest of all road users and owners of those illegal structures whose lives were endangered while trading under high tension electric wires and poles. A tricycle operator who gave his name as Mr. Edet, expressed appreciation to UCCDA for taking such steps in giving commuters visibility and clearance while on the road, saying there could not have been any other time to remove shanties and attached structures along roads than now that rains have increased in intensity. Mr. Edet added that it was better and more reasonable for UCCDA to pull down illegal structures now, not only for the easy and unobstructed viewing of upcoming vehicles and other road users while on transit, but for enhanced economic activities expected to break forth in the state. He therefore, urged other commuters, as well and those who had erected illegal structures in the right of way and other risk- prone areas within the capital city to cooperate with UCCDA, as the agency was rendering more than a life- serving service to the people. Another commuter who spoke on condition of anonymity, lauded the Executive Chairman of UCCDA, Rt. Hon. Anietie Eka, for his courage and determination to cleanse the city of illegal structures which she said had almost distorted the aesthetics of the city which it is known for. She however wondered why some people had refused to give the agency maximum cooperation to restore the dignity of the city, reminding that the demolition exercise had long been announced on radio and other media outlets, and therefore, should not be a surprise to anyone. The commuters urged Akwa Ibom people to understand the mandate of UCCDA and the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno towards revolutionizing development within the capital city. Recently, UCCDA has embarked on a continuous sanitization of the capital city, and the exercise is expected to permeate major roads, streets, roundabouts and market environments. Recall that Pastor Eno, some time last month, had thrown his weight behind UCCDA to clear off all shanties and other illegal structures that could obstruct free flow of rain water, resulting in flooding within the city. The Governor was apparently reacting to the recent prediction by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMeT), that some states, including Akwa Ibom, would experience flooding as it rains
