Sports / Akwa United Tops League Table After Sinking Kwara United By 3:0 by IBOMTODAY: 5:01pm On Jan 29, 2018
http://ibomtoday.com/akwa-united-tops-league-table-after-sinking-kwara-united-by-30/

Akwa United moved top of the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL table after an emphatic 3-0 win over bottom place Kwara United on Matchday 5 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Sunday.

Goals from Michael Ibe and Victor Mbaoma in the first half and a second half goal from Ubong Friday helped the team to secure all three points.

The Promise Keepers went into the match needing to win with three or more goals to top the league on goal difference ahead of Plateau United who beat MFM 1-0.

Both Akwa United and plateau United are on 12 points from 5 matches but the Promise Keepers are top of the log courtesy of their superior goal difference.

The CAF Confederation Cup campaigners put up a spectacular performance and deservedly benefitted from their dominant display to brush aside the newly promoted Kwara United 3-0.

Striker Victor Mbaoma scored his third goal in five matches, and Michael Ibe got his name on the score sheet in two successive home games. Meanwhile, Ubong Friday was voted Man-of-the-Match after opening his goal account for the season with the third goal of the match in the second half with one assist.

Coach Abdu Maikaba’s team is the highest scoring team in the league with 9 goals conceding a paltry two.

The Uyo based side will travel to Nnewi for a date with FC Ifeanyi Ubah on Wednesday.

Religion / Four Reasons Why You Need To Start Serving God As A Youth by IBOMTODAY: 3:15pm On Jan 28, 2018
http://ibomtoday.com/four-reasons-why-you-need-to-start-serving-god-as-a-youth/

Our enemy says, “Youth for pleasure, middle age for business, old age for religion.” The Bible says, “Youth, middle age, and old age for your Creator.”

But as it’s especially in our youth that we are most inclined (determined?) to forget our Creator, it’s especially in these years that we must work to remember our Creator (Ecc.12:1). Remember that He made you, that He provides for you, that He cares for you, that He watches you, that He controls you; and remember that He can save you too. That’s a lot to remember, but it’s much easier to start memorizing when we are young!

1. Energetic years

However, that’s not the only reason why God commands us to remember our Creator in our young years. It’s also because these are our most energetic years.

Why wait until we are pegging out, until we are running down, until our gas is almost empty, before serving our Creator? The God who made us deserves our most active and healthy years: our bodies are strong and muscular (well kind of), our minds are sharp and clear, our senses are receptive and keen and sensitive, our enthusiasm is bright and bushy, our wills are steely and determined. Remember Him in your energetic years.
2. Sensitive years

Why do far more of us become Christians in our youth than in our middle or old age? It’s because youthful years are sensitive years. Without giving up our belief in “Total Depravity” we can say that it’s “easier” to believe and repent when we are younger. It’s never easy, but it’s easier. And it’s easier because as we get older our heart is hardened thicker, our conscience is seared number, our sins root deeper, our deadness becomes deader.

Let’s use our youthful sensitivity and receptivity to remember our Creator before the evil days of callous indifference set in.

3. Teachable years

We learn more in our youth than in any other period of life. That’s true in all subjects, but especially true in religious instruction. All the Christians I’ve met who were converted to Christ late in life have expressed huge regrets about how little they know and how little they can now learn. I encourage them to value and use whatever time the Lord gives them, but they often feel they have to study twice as hard to learn half as well.
ice as hard to learn half as well.

4. Dangerous years

Young years are minefield years: hormones, peer pressure, alcohol, drugs, pornography, immorality, testosterone, etc. Few navigate these years without blowing up here and there. Dangers abound on every side – and on the inside. How many “first” temptations become “last” temptations! How much we need our Creator to keep us and carry us through this battlefield.

Finally its too dangerous to go about your daily life without God at the center, the Bible says seek ye first the kingdom of God and all other things shall be added unto you. What are you looking for? Wealth? Longlife? Good health? Our all sufficient God has all of that, all he needs is your heart. Beloved its too dangerous to live without Christ in your life. Should you fall and die now where will you spend your eternity? Think about this. Jesus loves you.

Politics / Gov Udom: No Single Road Done By Buhari In Akwa Ibom by IBOMTODAY: 10:13am On Jan 20, 2018
http://ibomtoday.com/gov-udom-meets-with-eket-senatotial-district-elders/

Governor Udom Emmanuel has again appealed to the federal government to consider executing some developmental projects in Akwa Ibom state in view of the huge contributions of the state to the national economy.

The governor said that it was quite unfair that a state that contributed the highest into the federal coffers, was yet to get a single kilometre of road project from the federal government.

Speaking while receiving leadership of Eket Senatorial District Leaders Forum in his office, the Governor Emmanuel decried the situation where the federal government is disbursing infrastructural development elsewhere, while the Eket senatorial district where the resources comes from, gets nothing.

Suing for continued peace and love in the state, the governor said it was unnecessary for people to start instigating crises in the name of politics.
He called for maturity from all, saying that the only message that was best for the state was that of unity, peace and love.

He said the visit was commendable as it also demonstrated his people back home are solidly behind him.

Responding, the Forum of Eket Senatorial District Leaders through their chairman, Chief Nduese Essien thanked the governor for championing peace and unity among the entire geo-political zones in the state.

They appreciated the Governor over the appointment of Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem as the new Secretary to the State Government, describing him as a very admirable team player who will transfer his wealth of experience in public and private sector to the administration.

The Eket leaders said they were particularly worried when it appeared that a crisis was brewing, and threatening the very foundation of unity of the state, and had met immediately to seek ways of resolving the issues in the polity.

They said they were gratified when the former Governor and Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, came out to disown the disturbing media reports, and also his reaffirmation of support to the governor.

The opposition members who are desperate to take Akwa Ibom by all means, are banking on any form of disunity among the PDP, and this the elders maintained should be avoided totally.

They commended Governor Emmanuel for his huge display of statesmanship and humility in handling the issue and restoring the confidence of his people, describing him as a good leader.

On the ongoing industries, roads and other infrastructural facilities springing up in the zone, they commended the Governor, adding that, “as the economic fortunes of our state improves, we wish to request that more attention be accorded our senatorial district in the allocation of state, not only because of the low attention it had received from successive administrations in the past, but because of its unassailable position as the treasure base of the state.”

While thanking the other two senatorial districts for the support to their son, they again called on the entire state to remain loyal and steadfast to Governor Udom Emmanuel to complete its two terms.

“It is worthy of reference that we are on a political covenant with the rest of the state, that just as we supported the emergence of governors from Uyo and Ikot Ekpene senatorial districts to serve eight years each, our son deserves same unconditional support for eight uninterrupted years, in the interest of equity, justice and fair play,” they added.

“We convey the full support and solidarity of the entire Eket senatorial district, and pass a vote of confidence on our son and leader, His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel, who remains the best shoulders for the responsibilities of transforming our state from a civil service driven economy to an industrial driven base in the country.

The troops of 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have killed two more militants, including the second-in-command to a suspected kidnap kingpin, Akaninyene Jumbo, aka Iso Akpafit, who was killed by the troops on Monday.

The militants, Aniebet Udoh and Thankgod Osiokpaphi, were reportedly shot dead on Tuesday following military raids on their hideouts at Ikpe village in the Etim Ekpo Local Government Area.

The Assistant Director, Public Relations, 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Major Umar Shuaib, who made the disclosure, added that the gunmen had engaged the troops in a shootout.

“After our first operation, which led to the killing of Iso Akpafit, our gallant troops, following another tip-off, invaded the hideout of the remaining gang members at Ikpe village in the Etim Ekpo Local Government Area on Tuesday. We engaged the hoodlums in a shootout and killed two of them, namely Aniebet Udoh and Thankgod Osiokpaphi. The other kidnappers escaped with gunshot injuries,” he said.
