Nairaland GeneralThe Soothing Balm Of Apologies by idiadostephen(op): 6:56am On Jul 03, 2015
The Soothing Balm of Apologies

An 'apology' is a statement or an action showing remorse for an offense committed intentionally or unintentionally. It's basically an expression of regret, an admission of an error or acceptance of blame and a willingness to make amends for better relationship and understanding. It's a genuine desire to get above an offense and make peace not just with the aggrieved but also with self for a better functioning of the soul which is the seat of intellect.

Although an apology is an integral part of human coexistence, it's also important to talk about 'Offenses' being the reason for apologies. Offense (Friction) is one of the most common occurrence in human relationship. Given our individual differences and uniqueness, there is likely to be friction when people come together for a common course, and this is what leads to offense. It is more likely to occur in groups were members are unfamiliar or have little awareness of "individual differences". The marriage relationship is not exempt from this.

Offense is toxic in nature. Without the offering and acceptance of genuine apologies If urgent steps are not taking , an offense can rend the tender fabrics of human relations, breaking down walls of familiarity and ruining the entire relationship.
In a world of imperfection driven by personal desires offenses are inevitable even amongst family members. It leads to pains and bitterness which could develop into sickness of mind and body (Psychosomatic ailments) this could culminate in the development of chronic diseases in a man.

Thankfully there is a renown antidote of this toxin 'Offense' and its simply genuine heartfelt 'Apology'. A sincere apology carries with it a soothing balm that is capable of melting any form of pain that was brought about by bitterness caused by offenses. It doesn't really matter who tenders the apology first but it sure has a greater healing on the initiator than the recipient. This simply means you are more liberated from bitterness, chronic conditions when you pick the courage to apologize first, especially in cases when both parties feel aggrieved. So today rise above that offense and save that ailing relationship with the 'Soothing Balm of Apology'.avoid health risks!

LiteratureThe Hand That Hold The Scepter by idiadostephen(op): 10:19pm On Jun 26, 2015
A scepter is an ornamented staff (Small stick) carried by an individual in power and symbolizes authority over his/her followers just like a shepherd over his flock. This form of leadership was made popular during the medieval ages where the monarchs carried the symbol of authority (scepter) over their subjects around, especially in official ceremonies. Same can be said of today's leadership, a symbol of authority bestowed on those who have been democratically elected into office of authority all over the world.

However, its pertinent to discuss briefly the 'hand that hold the scepter' (Leadership)in today's world, given its significance in the welfare of the people. In a world driven by democratic practices as championed by the United States but introduced by the Greeks, each community selects a hand saddled with the responsibility of representing them at the top. This arrangement produces the President and the Legislatures and other public office holders whose decisions impact greatly on the people as authority figures.

The task of representing the people at the top is an arduous one meant for individuals with competency and knowledge of their servitude obligation to the people, if such society must move forward. For a country as large as Nigeria, there is the need for proper understanding of the difference in cultural/ethnic and religious background of other communities and those views must be respected when pressing for your own demand as a community representative. The plight of the people must be vicariously felt by the leader to enable him tackle their challenges.

But the reverse is the case when fools hold the scepter of authority, as with the obvious case of Nigeria and most African legislatures. Permit my use of the word "fools" as this simply means a person who act unwise or lacks sagacity in his judgment.Such individuals are prone to make grave decisions that will make citizens of their country/continent (which is blessed with abundance) to wallow in abject poverty. But why is this so in a democratic setting where the people decides who leads? The wise cannot nominate a fool to lead.

A deeper thought into this situation that repeats itself in every administration poses the indefinite question of who is really the fool?politicians two faced lifestyle is no longer news to the average African yet we continuously line up to elect the trick-sters and fools to handle our lives and those of our children. Is this a confirmation of the insinuation that there are no truly wise and sincere men of the African decent to lead the continent forward? Or is the followership in Africa the problem? Our children are watching again as the clock ticks, who will be the 'Hand That Holds The Scepter' to lead the people to the promise land?

LiteratureThe School Of Hard Knocks by idiadostephen(op): 1:53pm On Jun 24, 2015
"The school of hard knocks" is a popular idiomatic phrase meaning the (Sometimes Painful) education one gets from life's usually negative experiences. It can also be likened to knowledge gained from street rather than books. "Whatever you learn from the School of Hard Knocks, you learn as a result of difficult, challenging or unpleasant experiences". But the beauty of this life's institution is that it has students from all works of life, even though its larger bulk of students are from the lower class of the society because of their peculiar economic challenge.

The school of hard knocks gives its students individual lectures through personal experiences with few exceptions as group experiences. This institution awards certificates that are intangible but noticeable in one's character and approach to life, that is if you make it to graduation as the case may be. Unfortunately most of its student never make it to graduation as reflected in the higher level of poverty in our societies today especially the third world countries like Africa.

The experiences we get from this institution of life no matter how difficult is meant to transform us into better individuals depending on how we interprete these challenges. Some people are left devastated and traumatized by life challenges, they form a habit of resistance and back out from the unavoidable demands of life. These individuals seek comfort over challenge and safety over growth, a situation that makes an under achiever who can never be truly successful in life.

Others see these challenges as a stair way to success regardless of their present location in the society. Because those who experience more of what they desire in life are those who do not back out from the challenges and growth process of life. These are people with high self esteem that emerged from difficult childhood were they had to face their problem headlong. They take the Hard Knocks of life with discipline and form a habit that allow them use their talent and gifting profitably.

So folks if you are currently a student of the "School of Hard Knocks" hang on there and develop a positive mind set that allow you see progress in every situation. Be sure you will graduate out of that situation a better person and it will be visible in your touch and approach to life. So don't quit keep pushing until you get your intangible but priceless certificate from this world largest university of life.

Nairaland GeneralStory Of My Life:- Inspired By True Life Story. by idiadostephen(op): 12:58pm On Jun 21, 2015
It’s the story of my life and it’s a fight to survive, even though it is tight and the stakes are high. They say character is what truly makes a man and that he can’t hide, as the bright side of my character gets dimmer every night through the negative attitude that emanates from my inside. I fear for a total outage of my destiny light that is suppose to shine so bright. It’s more agony for me every night when I realize how terrible and unintended my actions have been during the daylight. I break down and cry just like I am doing now while I write.

It’s the story of my life that gets me into an organization with high determination and expectation just like any highly spirited young man, and soon I get everyone’s attention. Some even secretly nominate me for promotion; others hope I soon get elevation because of my hard work and dedication. Sooner or later there is a turn of condition that leads to an ugly situation. Attitude suddenly turns into dirty arrogance and this makes everyone around me automatically small including my overall boss. Then it becomes obvious I will lose that job. Oh my God this is worse than torture. It takes me into isolation, a condition that magnifies frustration until it becomes distraction from anything I embark on. It takes away my creativity and innovation till I get irrelevant. Oh what a terrible situation.

It’s the story of my life. When I come across opposite sex, I am most times immediately admired. In some cases I am desired and this experience gets me inspired. But soon enough the whole excitement wears out like a dry wood and it’s thrown in the fire. It hurts the most when folks ask questions like why are you still single. Because the know me to be nimble but the ash reality of my venomous tongue and my negative attitude continuously puts me in a struggle that has made my heart feeble. It’s more horrible because I am perceived as civil. I can judge good from evil, Yet each time I try, it always seems trouble is inevitable; so I am meant to be single and live my life all alone. Oh God what a life of sorrow.
It’s the story of my life; I must take charge and fight. I will reach out to take a spiritual pen in Christ using His blood as the ink to rewrite my life. Now that am aware of the two beings living in me, the fight just gets more real. I must put on the whole armor of God to enable me destroy the negative attitude living in me; that has tormented me all these season and kept me awake most nights with tears flowing down my chicks freely, and the pangs of guilt reaping through my thoughts making me so weak. I must rise and fight because I truly want to succeed. I realize that no matter how much others try to help me, but if I am not truly willing it will just end in self pity. And that’s one party I don’t want to get myself in.

I desire to be good and see same in others, I want to love sincerely and be loved in return. I desire to respect divergent views and opinions even if they choose not to respect mine. I choose to be humble and develop a true interest in helping others grow. I will be the true me God created, to live in love and not guilt. Yes it is the story of my life; one that I will take charge through grace and rewrite it right.

LiteratureAs You Make Your Bed, So You Will Lie On Itm by idiadostephen(op): 1:49pm On Jun 19, 2015
It's an old saying and my dad's favorite as well- "As you make your bed, so you will lie on it". It was frequently said to me as a kid.I would hear my dad's voice even in my dreams talking to me about making my bed. I thought that was all there is to it; making my bed neatly so I can have a good night rest, but as I grew older I found that in life, a persons latter days is a bed.We actually rest on this bed after making it (we make our beds with our decisions and actions in our early days), and as such it's imperative we consciously make it well to enjoy the evenings of life.

As you make your bed in your marriage, so you lay on it. Decisions like- Why you want to marry, who you marry, how you treat your family are all processes of making your bed for the inevitable "evening" when we must. There comes a time when you become older or when unforeseen tragedies weaken the body or finances and you can't do things for your self. Then you will seek much needed assistance. For those who made their bed roughly with wrong decisions and bad treatment of family members, these "evenings" are full of terrible nightmares.

How well you make your bed in your work and finance would also determine the state of your evening rest. Regardless of our vocation, life comes in seasons- times of abundance and scarcity. Its important to take note of these seasons especially that of abundance and make your bed properly before the evening rest of life. Those who make their bed haphazardly in the morning of abundance are bound to end up with torrid evenings were they have to beg or indulge in all sort of jobs that increases ageing process and hastens their journey to the life beyond.

As you make your bed so you will lie on it. What are your thoughts and plans towards the evening of your life? Dont be misguided by the exuberance and buoyancy of your youth, the evening is just around the corner. To enjoy a lovely night rest after an hectic day out, it's advisable to make your bed properly in the morning before leaving the house, you can't tell the day's outcome. Same principles applies to life, it's of utmost importance to take a break from the fast pace of life and check your bed if its well made. Are there certain things you need to put in perfect structures before the evening of life which catches up with us unannounced? Remember as you make your bed, so you will lie on it. Ponder on this for a while.

Nairaland GeneralWhere Are The Gentle Men? by idiadostephen(op): 8:53am On Jun 17, 2015
In a world most dominated by masculine activities since creation; it won't be out of place to say it's a man's world, given the fact that most of the strategic positions and functions of the general world order are controlled by men. With the few women that make the break in such areas highly celebrated. Even the major religions of the world places the male figure as head over his household and this originally translates to the society at large.

Unfortunately for the women, we live in societies that are rooted in religious beliefs especially in third world countries like Africa were the woman is expected to be absolutely submissive to the man. But the question is in the leadership capability of the man. Being a male figure does not necessarily qualify him as a good leader. As the saying goes "Being a male is by birth, being a man is by age, being a gentleman is by choice, and true gentlemen make great leaders"

The gentleman is a higher breed of male figure, he leads by matching his words with his actions. A function of his integrity that commands irrevocable respect. He is a society builder, when a society wallows in poverty and disarray such society is devoid of true gentlemen. Regardless of the amount of well dressed and educated men it has, and this depicts a clear picture of the African society and other third world countries.

A gentleman is generous with his resources, he willingly serve others and extend a helping hand to those in need, not only when elected as a public officer. He is a life long learner, he maintains a teachable spirit that keeps him close to even the lowly, treat others with respect, restraints and responsible in all his interactions. Honorable not by title but by deeds arising from his upbringing. Embraces people from all cultures, ethnic and religious groups and possess strong work ethics.

It's obvious Africa and some poor countries of the world lack true gentlemen to lead them to peace and prosperity. The fact that the system produces highly educated men does not automatically transform them into gentlemen. The continent is in dire need of true gentlemen that deserve the submission of our fast learning ladies and are capable to lead us forward with examples and not excellence of words.. Where are the true GENTLEMEN in AFRICA?

Nairaland GeneralThe Storms Of Life.... by idiadostephen(op): 1:27pm On May 20, 2015
Two ladies on visit to the midlands in the United Kingdom. A place bad hit by heavy storm, to ascertain the level of damage. The storm that hit the city the previous day has taken out the power and every other means of communication, and as such there is no way to warn the people of an impending storm greater than the former heading towards the city.

The ladies who rented different apartments for independent observation, took the following actions when the greater storm suddenly arrives.

Lady1:-- When she saw the rate and effect of the devastating storm, noticing that there was nothing she could do simply lay low on the floor of the apartment waiting for the worse and same time hoping for the best.

Lady2:-- thought she can't die without a fight. She came out of the apartment trying to get help or just do something to save herself, at the process she was struck by a heavy mental blown by the wind. She died instantly.
Few hours later, the storm is over everywhere is calm. The lady who lay low on the floor of the apartment noticed the calm and cried for help, although covered by the furniture but was still alive and rescuers gave her a helping hand. But Lady2 was found dead at the side of her apartment.

Morals:-- In this journey of life there will always be storms, always know that you can't fight or calm the storms. But one thing for sure is that you can calm yourself whenever you are in the middle of any storm knowing that it will certainly pass......God bless you
