Constituents Praise Abia Rep Member, Ibe Okwara Osonwa’s Scholarship Initiative

Constituents of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency have lauded Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, the member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, for his dedication to youth empowerment through his scholarship initiative.

During a mock exam for students seeking to benefit from the programme, community members expressed their appreciation, emphasising that education remains the foundation for societal progress and development.

Reacting to the initiative, a community leader from Ohafia, King Jaja, said: “Kudos! This reminds me of my life and Chief Arthur Nzeribe Education Foundation Scholarship in the late 80s. He may have been doing it for politics’ sake, but a poor boy from Abia Ohafia struggling to pay fees at Akanu Ohafia Secondary School would have dropped out. I would have ended up in Aba because it was being strongly recommended for my mum. Maybe I would have been rich by now, but they would have missed me at the Mathematics Department, UNN.

“They would have missed me at CASOR UNN and the organisations I have worked for, both home and abroad. We were three from my school. My senior, Engr Onwunta, got the scholarship for undergraduate studies, and one Madubuko from Nde Uduma Awoke, who was my junior.

“May Chief Nzeribe’s soul continue to rest in peace. Politicians should prioritise human development in their politricks.”

Prince Okorie from Arochukwu LGA emphasised the importance of investing in young people, particularly in light of Nigeria’s security challenges.

“Rep Ibe Okwara Osonwa has shown that he genuinely cares for the youths. Sponsoring students through university is a remarkable step that will have long-term benefits. This is the kind of leadership we need,” he stated.

Mrs. Comfort Agbai from Abiriba community praised the lawmaker’s consistency in supporting youth development.

“We are grateful for the quality representation of Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa. Last year, our youths received training in agribusiness. Some of them got birds and were equipped with the necessary skills for poultry farming. He is doing a lot in terms of empowering our youths by providing them with sustainable tools,” she said.

Mr. Orji Ndukwe, an education advocate from Ohafia, commended the initiative, describing it as a game-changer for students from underprivileged backgrounds.

“Hon. Osonwa is taking concrete steps to ensure that no bright student is left behind due to financial hardship. This scholarship programme will not only change lives but also inspire others to invest in education,” he remarked.

Mrs Nkechi Okoro, from Ihechiowa, expressed her joy, stating that the scholarship would lift huge financial burdens off the shoulders of parents.

“Sending some of these children to the university seemed impossible, but with this scholarship, some of them have a chance of going to the university. I can’t thank Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa enough,” she said emotionally.

Chief Philip Ijoma, from Arochukwu also applauded the initiative, urging other politicians to follow Hon. Osonwa’s example.

“This is what true leadership looks like. Investing in education means investing in the future. If more politicians prioritised human capital development like Hon. Osonwa, our society would be much better off,” he stated.

PoliticsEx-abia Gov, T. A. Orji Distances Self From Alleged Forfeiture Of N228.4m To EFC by Idikas(op): 7:31pm On Jan 09, 2025
Ex-Abia governor, Senator Theodore Orji distances self from alleged forfeiture of N228.4m to EFCC

Former Governor of Abia State, Senator Theodore Orji, has dismissed as misleading, media reports that a federal High Court in Abuja had ordered interim forfeiture of N228.4m traced to him.

The former Governor who said he was embarrassed by the trending report, credited to the News Agency of Nigeria, explained that he had no pending suit before any court on the said subject.

Senator Orji further said that the persons said to have been arrested in connection with the case were never his Aides nor business allies as erroneously reported in the said report.

Orji said that the report was frot with errors in facts as Erondu Uchenna Erondu mentioned in the report as his Special Adviser on Special Duties was never so appointed by him.

He also said he had no business transactions with Effdee Nigeria Ltd nor a banker, Austin Akuma mentioned in the misleading report.

The former Governor who spoke through his Aide, Hon. Ifeanyi Umere, expressed shock that a reputable news agency like NAN could commit such a costly error of fact.

He demanded an immediate retraction of the said trending report, as well as an apology from NAN, over the embarrassment the report had caused him.

He said:”Our attention has been drawn to a media media report, claiming that a federal high court in Abuja has made an order of interim freezing and forfeiture of the sum of over 228.4m linked to Senator TA Orji to the Federal Government on allegations of money laundering.

“This is to notify the general public that the said report is false and misleading as there is no pending case in any court involving Senator TA Orji and honourable Erondu Uchenna Erondu, a former Special Adviser to ex-Governor Okezie Ikpeazu with EFCC as contained in the news report.

A thorough scrutiny of the whole story which emanated from News Agency of Nigeria, revealed that the reporter of NAN, in the bid to break the supposed story, ended up publishing fake news, as he referred to Erondu as the Special Adviser to Senator TA Orji.

“The reporter who did not cross-check his story ought to know that the story in question between Erondu, Austin Akuma of Keystone Bank, Effdee Nigeria Limited and EFCC happened between 2016 and 2017 few years after Senator TA Orji had left office as the Governor of Abia State.

”Once again, the said report about a purported court order allegedly freezing the sum of N228.4 million has nothing to do with former Governor Theodore Orji.

” This was a pure case of error of fact by the reporter or his medium. Senator Orji has no such suit pending before any court. Besides, other characters being mentioned in the case were never Orji’s aides, and never had any dealings with him.

“Media organizations should try to get their facts correct to avoid misleading their audience. The general public should disregard the misleading publication.”

The former Governor said his legal team had been detailed to take necessary action about the embarrassing report.

Senator Orji, however, assured that he would not hesitate at any time, when called upon by any anti-graft agency, to come and give account of his stewardship as Abia State Governor as he has nothing to hide.

PoliticsGiant Strides Of Emmanuel Mbaka Foundation by Idikas(op): 11:52pm On Oct 06, 2024
Eluama community, located in Isikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, has long suffered from a lack of social amenities such as good roads, clean water, and adequate healthcare facilities. Faced with these challenges, Emmanuel Mbaka Foundation emerged as a beacon of hope, transforming lives and providing essential services to the people.

Since its formal establishment in 2015, Emmanuel Mbaka Foundation, spearheaded by foremost philanthropist, Sir Emmanuel Mbaka, has been actively engaged in empowering youths, widows, and indigent members of the community through various philanthropic initiatives. The foundation’s projects include the construction of schools, churches, roads, and numerous other community development programs.

Providing Support For The Vulnerable

Speaking on the foundation’s mission, the Chief Operating Officer, Rev. Sister Maria Emenikeh, highlighted its core objective of supporting the poor and vulnerable members of society.

“The Emmanuel Mbaka Foundation takes care of the poor, the less privileged, orphans, widows, and other vulnerable groups in our society,” she explained.

“When they come with their requests, it is my duty to organise and forward them to our corporate head office in Abuja. The requests are reviewed to ensure they align with our mission and vision. Once confirmed, the chairman gives his approval, and their needs are met.”

Over the years, the foundation has made remarkable strides, including building houses for widows and sponsoring countless students who could not afford school fees, covering education from primary school to the university level.

A Unique Healthcare Initiative: The Free Eluama Clinic

Among its many achievements, one of the most notable is the establishment of a free clinic, which has become a lifeline for the people of Eluama and neighbouring communities. The Eluama Clinic, managed by the foundation, offers free healthcare services to patients, providing everything from consultations to medication at no cost.

Rev. Sister Agatha Anaene, the Matron of the Eluama Clinic, spoke passionately about the impact of the facility.

“This healthcare center is a free medical service, sponsored entirely by the Emmanuel Mbaka Foundation for the people of Eluama-Isikwuato. We have doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and lab technicians on staff. Patients come in the morning, and from admission to discharge, everything is free, including consultations, treatments, and medications. Even those admitted to the wards receive free care—every medication, every service, from start to finish.”

The clinic, which started five years ago at the foundation’s building, quickly gained popularity as it filled a critical gap in the community’s healthcare needs.

“We see an average of 160-200 patients daily, though the number varies because it’s a free service, attracting people from surrounding towns,” she added.

Meeting The Growing Demand For Healthcare

To accommodate the growing number of patients, the foundation had to relocate and renovate the old healthcare center in Eluama. Today, the clinic stands as a testament to the foundation’s commitment to improving the lives of the community members.

Dr. Agbgara Iheanyi Mbaka, the Medical Officer at the Eluama Clinic, reflected on the impact of the free medical services provided by the foundation.

“For the past five years, we’ve been running free medical services. It’s been a wonderful experience because we often treat people in dire need of medical care but who can’t afford it. The gratitude and blessings we receive are immense, and we always remember that someone is making this possible behind the scenes.”

Despite the challenges of running a free clinic, Dr. Mbaka noted that the clinic is a very busy place, with an average of 150-200 patients seen daily. He credited the foundation’s partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for providing additional medical personnel to support the clinic.

“The sisters are in charge of liaising with the NYSC, which sends us doctors, pharmacists, and lab scientists,” he said.

“I oversee the operations to ensure everything runs smoothly.”

A Beacon Of Hope

The Emmanuel Mbaka Foundation has become a source of hope and relief for the people of Eluama and its environs. With its unwavering commitment to social welfare, education, and healthcare, the foundation continues to bridge the gap in essential services, setting an example of how targeted philanthropic efforts can transform communities.

PoliticsMore Failure, Humiliation Await Your Sponsors — Ibe Okwara Movement Replies “cle by Idikas(op): 7:02pm On Aug 22, 2024
Ibe Okwara Movement, the political structure of the member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, says Chief Ibe Okwara Osonwa, shall defeat and inflict more political injury to the sponsors of the campaign of calumny against the lawmaker.

The group in a statement released on Thursday, signed by Chief Ajah Kalu said it was responding to a “malicious attack on Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa by one Cletus Kalu Nwankwo and his committee of friends”.

“We note with concern the incoherent and convoluted press statement issued by the ethically-challenged Cletus Kalu Nwankwo and his committee of friends with the title, “Arochukwu/Ohafia moves to recall Okwara Osonwa”.

“Ibe Okwara Movement, being a group of individuals with impeccable characters—would have ignored the disjointed and shameful release—filled with errors and confusion—like its sponsors, and signatory—like Cletus Kalu Nwankwo. But, in order not to mislead the good people of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, it is pertinent that we clarify some of the issues we were able to understand from the statement filled with unprecedented errors.

“Firstly, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa has been adjudged as an outstanding lawmaker by prominent lawyers, doctors, community leaders, businessmen, traditional rulers, women and youths, clerics and other responsible stakeholders from the federal constituency. Therefore, the verdict of political jobbers like Cletus Kalu Nwankwo and his sponsors won’t be needed since an overwhelming majority are already with Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa.

“That it is a futile attempt by frustrated and rejected politicians—especially those who aspired to be the lawmaker representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the 2023 general election to assess a polished and urbane lawmaker like Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa who was honoured with the Nigerian Patriot and Integrity Lawmaker of the Year Award 2023 by the Nigerian Association of Christian Journalists (NACJ) for his sterling intellectual contributions to critical national issues, quality motions, bills, and his feedback-approach to his constituents.

“ On bills and motions, it is now confirmed that Cletus Kalu Nwankwo and his sponsors are intellectually poor and lazy for not knowing that the there is a bill for an act to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Ohafia (second reading) sponsored by Hon. Chief Ibe Okwara Osonwa.
b. That the South East Development Commission (SEDC) recently signed into law was co-sponsored by Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa.
c. That the Freight Forwarding Bill 2023 was sponsored by Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa.
d. On the 3rd of October, 2023, Chief Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa moved an important motion urging the federal government to urgently intervene in the flooding menace and resultant gully erosion in Amaekpu, Ebem, Nkporo, Ihechiowa, Abam, Arochukwu and Ututu communities of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in Abia State. The House subsequently mandated the Ecological Fund Office and its related agencies and Committee to carry out an impact assessment of the affected communities for a remediation plan, that would stem the tide of gully erosion in the affected areas. The House also mandated the National Emergency Management Agency,(NEMA) to immediately send relief materials and also provide temporary homes to the victims of the menace of gully erosion as a palliative measure to ameliorate their plights. It further mandated its Committee on Environment to liaise with the Federal Ministry of Environment. The motion has yielded positive response from the Federal Ministry of Environment.
e. On the 23rd of October, 2023, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa alongside Hon. Emil Inyang (Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency of Cross River State), moved a motion on the floor of the House of Representatives during plenary on the urgent need to establish a peacekeeping post between Isu Community of Arochukwu LGA and Utuma Community in Biase LGA of Cross Rivers State to institute peace over the long lasting boundary dispute.
f. On the 12th of October, 2023, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa alongside 10 others co-sponsored a motion to save 250 Nigerians in Ethiopian prison, with the House summoning the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

“On the 9th of February, 2024, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa petitioned the National Assembly, seeking explanations as to why some communities in Ohafia L.G.A. have been denied power supply for five years by Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC). This petition has yielded positive results as the officials of EEDC appeared before the House Committee on Public Petitions and promised to resolve the issues with the communities and restore back electricity to them.

“On the much talked about distribution of cassava stem, what Hon. Ibe Okwara shared was about 30,000 improved agricultural seedlings. Just days ago, he added over 2000 bags of fertilizers to it across the 22 federal wards in Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.

“ The sponsors of Cletus Kalu Nwankwo and his committee of friends should note that the people of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency are very much aware of Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa’s hard work, determination, dedication and commitment to drive development to his people. They are the ones to reward Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa for his hard work; Therefore, more failure, humiliation await them.”

Politics2027: ‘nigeria Is Not A One Party State’ — Ambassador Dr. Osita Offor Ikenga Gb by Idikas(op): 1:17am On Aug 20, 2024
2027: ‘Nigeria Is Not A One Party State’ — Ambassador Dr. Osita Offor Ikenga Gburugburu Cautions Deputy Speaker

The Ikenga Gburugburu of Ohafia Ancient Kingdom and President of United Abia Artists and Patriots (UAAP) feels compelled to address the recent utterances of Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, which threaten the fabric of our democracy. We urge him to desist from making undemocratic statements, as Nigeria is not a one-party state.

We reject the notion that every governor must come from the APC simply because the party holds power at the center. This idea contradicts democratic principles and the rule of law. There is no law in Nigeria mandating governors to come from a particular party. The APC's grip on power was achieved democratically, but this does not give them the right to dictate governors' political affiliations.

Abia State, under Governor Alex Otti OFR of the Labour Party, is thriving and making progress, as Hon. Kalu has admitted. We urge him to refrain from distracting the government with premature talks of the 2027 election, as there is no vacancy in Abia Lion House in 2027. It is too early for such politicking, and the governor should focus on delivering dividends of democracy to the people.

Many have scrutinized the Southeast Development Commission Bill signed into law by President Tinubu. While the bill may appear to be a gesture of goodwill, many suspect it may be another APC ploy to woo the region. The bill's funding mechanism raises concerns about its true purpose. We demand clarity on the implementation, ensuring it benefits the Southeast region and not just APC allies.

We are concerned that the bill may be another avenue sponsored by APC to compensate political allies with money from Southeast States. This would be a betrayal of the trust reposed in the government by the people of the Southeast. We call on Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu to make the Southeast people understand the bill better by addressing the funding sources.

His interest should be in the welfare of Ndị-Abia, not the ego of APC. It is unacceptable for a man of his office to prioritize party interests over the well-being of our people.

In conclusion, the United Abia Artists and Patriots supports Governor Alex Chioma Otti OFR, whose leadership has turned the fortunes of Abia for the best. Every well-meaning citizen should support Dr. Alex Otti's industrialization of the state rather than placing political ego above reality.

Signed,

Ambassador Dr. Osita Offor "De Ultimate Commander"
President, United Abia Artistes and Patriots Forum (UAAP).

‘Should we continue with tribal politics of division?’ —Dr. Sam Anya Media Directorate reacts

In recent times and climes, one could wonder how did the persona of Dr. Sam Anya endear himself to the populace particularly the non-indigene community in rivers state and south south Nigeria; this came as no small feat as the tireless and energetic “Chief Sammy” has in no small measure stood out for the non indigenous community through various means in philanthropy, human capital development and a host of others too numerous to mention. Can one measure up these gestures? The answer absolutely is NO! But however, the attention of the media directorate of Dr. Samuel Anya has been drawn to an opinion expressed but wrongly conveyed by one “Alh. Musa Saidu” and we wish to buttress facts about that erroneous publication and of course set records straight. In 2020, Dr. Anya was seen in various nooks and crannies of the Niger delta especially rivers state ensuring the safe distribution of food palliatives he personally made available to non citizens of the region with costs running into millions of naira albeit, he carried out these activities even in the heat of the pandemic risking his own health. Should we talk about all of his philanthropic contributions? Or even the uncountable human capacity development he has made available to people even within the rank and file of the Arewa consultative forum? For sure, the list would remain endless. “Alhaji Musa Saidu” and his notorious ‘political’ sponsors should understand that Dr. Sam Anya is one who is JUST NOT popular in the non-indigene community but a man who has cut his teeth and knows his onions in piloting the affairs of non indigenous people selflessly.
On this note, we are calling on the National body of the Arewa Consultative Forum to as a matter of urgency call “Musa Saidu” who we perceive as being an alien and an imposter in the apex northern organization to order and ensure he desists from making inflammatory and inciting statements with the nomenclature of Arewa Consultative Forum’ Rivers state chapter; the Governor in his wisdom deemed it feat to appoint Dr. Anya who himself is loved by not just all and sundry but also verifiably accepted by the Hausa community resident in rivers state.
Summarily, “Musa Saidu” should understand that Dr. Sam Anya the honorable commissioner for special duties remains the undisputed number 1 citizen of the non indigene community in rivers state but also undistracted in his bid to carrying out the task of ensuring a safe environment for non indigenous people residing in rivers state devoid of tribe and political affiliation.

PoliticsABIA: Reps Ibe Okwara Presents Petition Against EEDC Over Non-power To Abiriba, by Idikas(op): 4:41pm On Feb 08, 2024
Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency of Abia State, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa has presented a petition before the House of Representatives against Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), seeking explanations on why some communities in his constituency, particularly Ohafia, Abiriba, and Nkporo communities all in Ohafia local government area have been denied power supply for five years, yet exorbitant bills are presented to them.

He laid the petition on Tuesday during plenary presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.

A group known as Ohafia Connect in the petition on behalf of the communities signed by Mr Emmanuel Ibekwe (Chairman) and Barr. Eme Ekpu (Legal Adviser) accused EEDC of extortion and harassment.

Hon. Osonwa shortly after presenting the bill told journalists that the communities are seeking explanation on how they accumulated a bill of N2.1bn despite not having power supply for five years.

According to him, several attempts have been made towards the amicable resolution of the perpetual darkness in the affected communities but to no avail.

He said despite efforts made by Abia State deputy governor, Ikechukwu Emetu who is from the affected area to ensure that the communities celebrate Christmas with power supply, it wasn’t achieved. Sponsored Hon. Osonwa expressed gratitude to Governor Alex Otti for his relentless support towards ensuring that the impasse is amicably resolved.

“The Deputy Governor did all he could within his power, from replacing fallen poles, to replacing lines that were down. A lot of money has been spent”, he noted.

According to him, the EEDC claimed that one of the lingering issues is alleged vandalism, which the governor and his deputy have agreed to resolve. He said the most worrisome of the issues raised by EEDC is the over N2bn debt awarded against the communities, wondering how it was accumulated.

“What they are telling us is that we should pay the money and they will give us power, but we are telling them to supply us power, then we resolve that so called outstanding debt”, he stated.

He insists that the estimated billing awarded against the communities by EEDC is unjustified and unwarranted, saying his father who died nearly three years ago was awarded an outstanding debt of N600,000 in his house, wondering how they came about it.
