Your list is ok but you how could you leave out Abdul Jabbar and Dr J thats almost unforgiveable
This is the only critic so far in this thread that seems to make sense. Jabbar should be on that list. I'm sorry. I'm put him #6 and everyone moves down.

I can assure basketball in those days where not as competitive as the days of MJ so what are you on about?Dr J also has to be in that list because of a lot of moves he brought to the game.
If you want to put Dr. J in the top 10 for reasons stated in your post, then you have to also consider George Mikan, who was the first BIG MAN in the NBA, inventing post moves never witnessed before. His team won many championships and he won 5 MVPs.

You also have to consider Bob Cousy, who invented the dribbling and passing skills that you see today, he also won multiple championships (11) and MVP.

Dr J was a great scorer. . .that was it. He played matador defender and would usually get burned by his man. He's one of the greatest and most creative dunkers of all time, but to say a top 10 player. . .pfffft. He's not even a top 3 Small Forward. I would put Larry Bird and Scottie Pippen over Dr J anyday and twice on Sundays. Pippen had the complete package.

And to say basketball in those days wasn't as competitive is asinine. Just b/c you don't know any basketball players from the 50/60s doesn't mean basketball wasn't as competitive. The 80's was more competitive than Russells era (I'll give you that), but Jordan struggled a lot in the 80s, and he didn't win any championships, and perennially, stuggled to get out of the 1st round IN THE 80s so thats a moot point. In the 90s, when the NBA was much more watered-down from the 80s and guys like Bird and Magic retired, Jordan finally established a sidekick in Pippen and began a dynasty from then on. Jordan only had to face opposing SGs in an aging Clyde Drexler and Reggie Miller as competition. He didn't really have any competition in the 90s, while Russell had ALOT of opposing Cs to deal with including the most dominant scorer in the
history of the league in Wilt Chamberlain. . .and with the likes of whom many are in the HOF.

I can also twist it and say that Bill Russell didn't have the technological advances that the NBA has today, like video editing to examine opponents and their tendencies, proper nourishment, workout regimen, personal trainers, etc. . .

Imagine if he had the luxury of video editing. The guy was a very smart man (one thing people don't know about Russell).

How dare you put Bill Russell ahead of MJ. This is basketball heresy, if you said this in basketball circles everybody would laugh at you. You obviously don't sound like a knowledgable basketball fan because everybody agrees that MJ is hands down the G.O.A.T (THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME). Having said that Bill Russell was great but he is not even regarded as the best of his era, Wilt Chamberlain was and also both this guys played in an era where there were no good athletes, only stiff little white guys, that's why they dominated, i would love to see them play in this mordern day era.
@ poster

How dare you question my NBA knowledge?

Let me share with you a little story about the legendary Bill Russell

Before he played college ball at San Fransisco, the team was NEVER contender. In his only 2 years at San Fransisco, not only did he make them contenders, but he won both championships in as many opportunities.

Then he went on to participate at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics the year he laft San Fran. When he got there, as captain of the US Basketball Team, he lead tham to the Gold Medal and also participated in the high jump (WHEN HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF AN NBA PLAYER PARTICIPATING IN THE HIGH JUMP!!!). He also participated in the decathalon and hisotry has it that he was recorded the 7th fastest man in the world at that time. I seriously doubt if Michael Jordan was nearly as athletic.

The year he entered the NBA his rookie season he failed to lead his team to the championship. The NEXT 11 YEARS he led his team to the championship (the guy has 1 ring in his DICK for God sakes!!). The year after (his last season as a player) he failed, but just to put things in perspective, he was assigned as BOTH a player AND a coach. Then he retired.

So in 13 seasons in the NBA, he led his team to 11 championships.

Not only that. He won 5 MVPs and would've won 11 Finals MVP (if they had such thing at the time).

He is also regarded as the Greatest Defender Of All Time and would've easily broken Olajuwons blocking records if they'd recorded blocks at that time. In 1980, he was also voted the GOAT by ESPN Magazine (consisting a panel of former NBA players and coaches).

Regarding Wilt Chamberlain, who only won 2 championships in Russells era. Bill routinely OWNED Wilt in playoff matches and performances. That's WHY Bill has 11 championships to Wilts 2. Wilt wasn't exactly known for showing up in big spots. His stats would always regress come playoffs time (that should put a stamp to your pathetic arguement).

Jordan actually HAS A LOSING RECORD lifetime playing without arguably the top 3 small forward of all time in Pippen (actually I'll have him over Dr J in the SF list. Dr J was a terrible defender). Jordan NEVER got out of the first round W/O Pippen.

i don't see Lebron, nor Kobe, nor Carmelo, Nor Kevin, but guest who i see?? I see Shaq. this fool is wack as hell. please tell me you are joking.
All of the guys I list there won multiple championships as lead dog. Both LeBron and Kobe have NEVER won championship as the leader.

Bill Russell won championships 11 straight times as lead dog. Even he college, he led his team to the championship twice. He has also done a lot more things that neither Kobe or LeBron can even touch. The Melbourne Olympics, his season as both a player/coach, his defense, etc,
We all know what Jordan did.
Magic johnson was a 3 time MVP and won 5 championships, can play all 5 positions, and won the Finals MVP as a ROOKIE. LeBron and Kobe do not have the resume that these players have, INCLUDING Shaq

Shaq won MVP, was a runner up for DPOY, won 3 Finals MVP and won 4 championships. He had the most dominant prime in this generation.

what about medicine ?
technically, that's not considered a major here in the states. you could major in anything and still become a pre-med student. If that doesn't help, then i have BME on top which is the next thing to medicine, but it also involves prosthetics and engineering
