Binikingdowm:it wasn't a war alone. It was a Genocidal war. What is Genocide? According to the United Nations Convention on 9th December, 1948, article two describes genocide as follows: GENOCIDE Genocide means any of the following acts committed with intention to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial, or religious group such as – killing the members of the group – causing bodily and mental harm to members of the group – Deliberating inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or part – imposing measures to prevent birth within the group – forcibly transferring children of that group to another group. In article one, it states that "Genocide, whether committed in time of peace or war, is a crime under international law". All these features happened to the Igbos |
"In some areas outside the East... Ibos were killed by local people with at least the acquiescence of the federal forces... 1000 Ibo civilians perished in Benin in this way" (New York Review, 21 December 1967) |

THE BLOODY SIEGE IN NSUKKA "... Nsukka is a small town located North of BIAFRA. The federal army arrived there at the beginning of the hostilities so as to pacify her. Whole families were decimated! Young girls of nine or eleven years old raped and murdered! Men were killed along the roads, macheted or stabbed with lesser regard than a sheep or a cow at a slaughter house! Two hundred children were rounded up at a place, poured fuel and set ablaze alive in a mighty conflagration. Four hundred and thirty elderly women who were no longer of any utility to the occupation army had their breasts chopped off in chains. There also, like in butchery, Mmegwa a young girl of eight years old was asked the whereabouts of her parents to which she innocently answered: they had taken to their heels. They broke into laughter after which they poured bullets into her mouth and then across her nose. Later not contented with that they chopped off her two small hands and left her to bleed to death, there on the threshold of her burnt hut..."
