I'm a PhD student at the University of Sydney. Did you get any letter of support from your supervisor regarding any scholarship. The PhD program is super expensive and would best be pursued with a scholarship. So, clarify your funding options from your supervisor.

Kenny4smart:
Hi everyone, just a quick one please 🙏

I submitted a PhD application to the University of Sydney from the UK. The admissions team has now requested additional documents, including the completion of the GS Assessment form and evidence of financial capacity, such as bank statements or a savings certificate for either myself or my sponsor before my application can be processed.

Has anyone experienced being asked for financial documents at the application stage? I was under the impression that these are usually required only at the time of CoE issuance or visa application.

So why can't the universities become CNG conversion centres with mandate for the universities to expand the services to within 20km radius of their host communities.

The government is as clueless as the yeye president. Nonsense and ingredients!

The first step, if you are looking at a PhD, is to get a supervisor, who is willing to work with you and provide letter of support you can use for admission and maybe scholarship. I think zoology should be a good field to study in Australia given that there is a lot of work with animals and the environment.

Godspeed.

Hello Guys, New guy in here,

I plan to start the process of application soon and from what I've read here so far, Admission first then ViSA application.

I have a Masters already but plan to go through the masters route.

As expected, my major motivation is post study work Permit as with everyone here so I need advice on recent trends. Best schools that are a bit cheap and best courses to get jobs easily during or after study in the Aussie region.

I am considering both Australia and New Zealand and hope to make a decision this week after finishing all my research.

I am self funded and hope to get in in the very next academic sessions intake. I don't have all the money yet but should have a sizeable portion of it by July ending.

Pls OG's here. Help out with info. I am not looking for agents, but more of direction. I am still reading through this thread and the immigration website.

I have a first degree in Zoology, and MSC in parasitology. I will also consider PhD if there are chances of grant and PSWP. In my early 30's

Yea. This really helps. My BSc was a mess but my MSc may make sense. I don't know how the calculation is done to get you to 61.6% but can something like 2 A's and the rest B's get me to something between 60% and up? I have at least 7 years of experience in development work in the area of data management/social services/community development. I also have PGD which I used to gain admission into MSc.
With such a performance in your Msc, you should be good.

Other considerations are requirements from your destination school and the peculiar needs of the scholarship. Some insist that you have publications.

Hello IK, please, what CGPA did you have to have been considered for a scholarship? I'm currently rounding up my MSc program. I want to see if I'll stand a chance to apply.
I think it is a consideration of your overall academic and professional experience that makes you eligible for the scholarship. I had 3.98/5 for my undergraduate and 61.6% for my masters. But like I said, it takes more than these. You also have to show research experience through the work you do or academic papers to be considered.

Hope that helps.

Yes, they look out for publications and proven resesrch experience for PHD applicants, especially those seeking scholarships. Either one or the other or both can work.

Usually, once a school accepts your application, and offers you a spot.. you have a good chance at getting a Visa. But that also depends on the tier of the University you want to attend sonI always advice to add all relevant documents.

Hello all,

I have been granted full scholarship for my PhD at WSU. I have a short window to apply for visa as I am to resume in Jan. I already have the COE from the school, but these are my queries:

How much has to be in my SOA if I am attaching one. Or if I need to attach any at all, given the full scholarship, which includes living expenses of $35k yearly.

Do I need to attach IELTS as the school did not require it. And I heard it is exempted for PhDs.

Ties include an affidavit stating that I have inherited land; a company which I am shareholder and director. The CEO has written that I will be returning to work as COO. I also am a secretary of an arts community, while holding an appointment with a state governor.

How does this profile look and what else might hamper visa approval.

Waiting for your responses, my Egbons.

CrimeFamily Demands for Justice For Isaiah Olugbemi, Young Boxer Murdered in USA by Ikechukwu09(op): 3:48pm On Jun 26, 2024
Isaiah Olugbemi, our beloved son, brother, father, and friend, aged just 27, was brutally and needlessly murdered on June 17th in Odenton, Maryland, USA.

He was a promising young boxer. Isaiah was a Junior Olympics gold medalist, a three-time Golden Gloves state boxing champion and a two-time Open Regional champion.

Isaiah was ambushed by Nicholas Giroux, his neighbor, who laid in wait outside his home and callously shot him multiple times. He succumbed to his fatal injuries, leaving behind a 2-year-old son—the same child with whom he had celebrated Father's Day just one day prior. This grievous incident has not only robbed a family of a loving father and son but also stolen a promising talent from the world of boxing. This heinous act of violence has left Isaiah’s young son fatherless and our family shattered.

Court documents showed that the police obtained surveillance footage showing a white male confronting Olugbemi with a handgun before shooting him multiple times and fleeing the scene on foot.

Sadly, Isaiah's story is a gripping tragedy of the rampant gun violence in the United States. According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been over 43,000 incidents of gun violence in the US in 2020 alone, leading to numerous deaths, destroying countless families.

As we mourn Isaiah's untimely departure, we also seek justice and support for his grieving family.

In honor of Isaiah, we are calling on the authorities (the Anne Arundel County Police Department, Maryland State Government, U.S. Department of Justice, US House of Representatives and the US Senate) to expedite the investigation and ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice. We want the system to change so that not only do we get justice but also ensure that no other person suffers this fate.

We must stand against such brazen acts of violence. We demand that Nicholas Giroux be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for his premeditated and senseless act of violence. We owe it to Isaiah, and to the innumerable others who have lost their lives to gun violence, to fight for justice and a safer society.

Isaiah Olugbemi’s life was full of promise, and his legacy deserves to be honored with justice and action. By signing this petition, you are standing with Isaiah’s family and community in demanding accountability and systemic change to request for stricter gun control measures and prevent such tragedies in the future.

We urge everyone to sign this petition to demand justice for Isaiah Olugbemi. Your signature can play a vital role in ensuring that Isaiah's tragic death does not become just another statistic in the grim tally of gun violence.

Sign today to join us in our fight for justice.

We must ensure that Isaiah’s death was not in vain. Together, we can make a difference and bring justice to a grieving family. Please sign and share this petition to show your support.

PoliticsShaibu Joins APC Next Week, To Be Received By Party’s NWC by Ikechukwu09(op): 4:46pm On Aug 10, 2023
The Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comr. Philip Shaibu has finalized plans to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending the speculations amid the political turmoil between the State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and his deputy.

A high-ranking member of the APC, who disclosed this to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said Shaibu will be received into the party early next week by the APC National Working Committee (NWC).

The decision by Shaibu to pitch tent with the APC, which was predicted by political analysts, followed his move to the Federal High Court to seek an injunction against an alleged impeachment plot against him.

Governor Obaseki had however said the move by Shaibu to seek a court order to stop his purported impeachment is preemptive ahead of his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the source, “It has been confirmed. We have on good authority that the Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon Philip Shaibu has concluded plans to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“He is to be received along a few of his supporters into the party early next week by the National Working Committee of the party. Shaibu has been in talks with the state and national leadership of the party even before the feud between him and the governor went public and has been negotiating his way back into the party.
“The deputy governor has now perfected his defection to the party and we are glad and ready to receive him into our folds.”

Obaseki had while addressing leaders from Edo North Senatorial District, the senatorial district of the deputy governor said the he was “not aware of any plot or any scheme to impeach the Deputy Governor Comrade Philip Shaibu. I have also checked and there was no such plan.

“So, the Court action taken, for me, is a thing of shock and disappointment. I believe that this action by him is a preemptive move to get a court order, keep his ticket and move to another party. I think it's unfair for our party. We don't need this sort of crisis.

“I am trying to reflect on the move made by somebody that I have given a broad latitude to do his work as deputy governor. So, for him to take this kind of action is shocking.”

PoliticsKaduna Tribunal Admits All Exhibits By PDP Candidate, Ashiru by Ikechukwu09(op): 6:32pm On Jul 05, 2023
Kaduna Tribunal admits all exhibits by PDP candidate, Ashiru

...upholds prayers by PDP lead Counsel, Iyamu, over failure of respondents to inspect INEC materials

The lead Counsel to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 Kaduna State Governorship election, Oluwole Iyamu, SAN, has said that the respondents’ Counsels failed to show up to inspect the exhibits tendered by the PDP candidate, Hon. Isa Ashiru and his party as ordered by the Kaduna State Governor Election Tribunal.

Upon hearing the arguments on Tuesday, the three-man panel admitted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s Forms EC8A, EC8B, EC8C, EC8D, EC8E, and EC40G series from various polling units and Local Government Areas of the state, which were tendered by the PDP and its candidate, as exhibits.

The submitted exhibits are from Giwa, Chikun, Igabi, Kachia, Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Kagarko, Kubau, Kudan, Lere, Sabon-Gari, and Zaria respectively.

Earlier, the counsel to the 1st (INEC), 2nd (Uba Sani), and 3rd (APC) respondents, argued that the petitioner’s counsel had breached the court order, which instructed that all parties (counsels) should meet for the uptaking of the exhibits before the presentation.

In his argument, the counsel to the 3rd respondent, Muhammad Sani Katu, SAN, who sought adjournment of the case, explained that the order of the court was that all counsels must meet for sorting and marking of the exhibits for orderliness.

“We cannot proceed as it stands. This is because the order is not been complied with,” Katu argued.

In his defence, the lead counsel to both the PDP and Ashiru, Oluwole Iyamu, SAN, objected, explaining that they (the counsels to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respondents) were given the opportunity for sorting, marking, and studying the said exhibits before today’s sitting but failed to show up as ordered by the court.

“The court registrar can attest to the fact that the 1st, 2nd and 3rd respondents’ counsels were given the opportunity, and several efforts were made for them to come for the sorting and marking of the exhibits but, they declined,” he added.
Upon considering the submissions of the counsels, the court ruled that all exhibits be submitted to the court by the petitioner’s counsel.

Also, Iyamu, SAN, further told the court that more documents were expected from the INEC, which according to him, are part of the exhibits to be tendered.

The case was adjourned till 10th July 2023 for the continuation of the presentation of exhibits by the petitioners’ counsel.

CelebritiesKvng Stefan: Collaborations Healthy For Creative Industry by Ikechukwu09(op):
Edo-based skit maker, Osemwota Odion, also known as Kvng Stefan, has said that the rising trend of Nollywood stars collaborating with skit makers for new and refreshing content is healthy for the growth of Nigeria’s creative industry.

The skit maker, who is a graduate of Library and Information Science from the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, noted that the new trend would help in creating a robust industry that thrives on collaborations and partnerships.

According to him, “I am excited with the new trend in the industry where established Nollywood actors are collaborating with skit makers for original content. The cross-fertilisation of ideas and talent helps in building a vibrant industry.

“In the last couple of years, we have seen an uptake of new actors collaborating with established faces in the industry. This has helped to keep everybody on their toes and also provides new avenues for expression.”

Noting that the partnerships will foster a spirit of shared prosperity, he noted: “It is not uncommon to find a lot of people working on collaborative pieces together, regardless of where and when they started in the creative industry. This is quite healthy and should be encouraged.

“I am also looking forward to working with a number of established talents, which helps to sharpen one’s talent and also provides a new perspective in the delivery of content to our followers across different platforms.”
