Residents of Ibadan, Oyo State, were shaken on Tuesday after a tanker exploded, killing two persons.

The devastating incident occurred around 5:00 am near Gabster Mega Petrol Station, Orita Challenge, in the Oluyole Local Government Area of the state.

Eyewitnesses reported that the victims, a tanker driver and his assistant, were trapped in the explosion and burnt beyond recognition.

According to eyewitnesses, the tanker driver and his assistant were trapped and burnt in the inferno before the intervention of emergency management workers from both the state and federal agencies.

It was reported that the explosion caused panic and destroyed properties.

The fire service, supported by security personnel, worked relentlessly to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby commercial and residential buildings.

Confirming the blast, The Special Adviser on Fire Services Reform to Governor Seyi Makinde and Chairman of the State Fire Services Agency, Moroof Akinwande, said,
“We received the distress call at 5:15 am and immediately responded. The situation is now under control.”

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Safiyanu Dalhatu, for allegedly killing his mother, Salma Abdullahi, with a pestle in the Abujan Kwata area of Bauchi.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmad Wakili, the tragic incident occurred on February 24, 2025, following an altercation between the suspect and his 40-year-old mother.

The matter was reported to the A’ Divisional Police Headquarters by members of the Peace and Security Committee in the area.

“Safiyanu Dalhatu is accused of attacking his mother with a heavy pestle, inflicting fractures on both of her hands and other bodily injuries,” the statement read.

Police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Abdullahi Muazu, were dispatched to the scene and rushed the victim to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) for treatment, where she was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.

The police have since recovered the pestle used in the assault as part of ongoing investigations.

Preliminary findings indicate that the attack stemmed from a domestic dispute between the suspect and his mother. The case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiries under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad.

The suspect is expected to be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.

A yet-to-be-identified Bishop of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church was seen in a now-trending video anointing and ordinating another Bishop (Name Unknown).

In the video, the Bishop was seen anointing the new Bishop in what they call, “tongue-to-tongue anointing.”

Many people believed to be church members claimed that the symbolism of the tongue-to-tongue anointing reached beyond the physical act itself.

According to them, it represents the transfer of wisdom, knowledge, and spiritual authority, establishing a profound connection between the two Bishops.

A member of the church identified as Femi Fasanya told First News correspondent that, this act exemplified the importance of communion within the church, both among its leaders and the wider congregation.

“As the new Bishop received the mantle of leadership, it was clear that he inherited not only the weight of the office but also the love and support of the community around him,” he added.
