PASS.NG, Nigeria’s leading online examination preparatory platform has announced the winners of maiden edition of Samson Abioye Memorial Scholarship programme. The 10 winners who are in their various levels of study at different higher institutions across Nigeria will be given 50,000 naira each to support their education.

The scholarship program was established as a result of the need to honour the memory of Samson Abioye, who was until his death at the age of 26 in 2017, the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of PASS.NG.
The scholarship fund was raised from well-meaning individuals and it is targeted at 10 brilliant but financially disadvantaged undergraduates in Nigeria. The beneficiaries were selected after they emerged the best in an essay competition on a topic: “What I Can Do As A Youth To Make A Difference In Nigerian Education System.” About 213 entries were made but only 10 undergraduates emerged winners and therefore qualified for the scholarship.

The undergraduates cut across students from various higher institutions. They include: AliuFarouq Umar and Ahika Ezekiel from University of Benin;Ezekiel Elekwa and Money Gift from University of Nigeria, Nsukka;OmoyaSimultfrom University of Ibadan;OdunlamiBukunmi from Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta;Usoro Emmanuel from Akwaibom State University;Emmanuel Sunday and Josiah Akpan from University of Lagos; and Kazeem Saheed fromFederal University Oye-Ekitti.

Speaking on the scholarship programme, ImoleOluyemi, Co-Founder And Operations Lead, PASS.NG said: “Samson Abioye Memorial Scholarship was birthed from the dual need to financially assist struggling students other than just providing educational services to them alone, and also to ensure that the name and legacy of Samson Abioye continues to linger in our hearts for centuries to come.”

He added: “Brilliance is evenly distributed across the world but opportunity is not. Here in Nigeria, that is even more the sad reality. 50,000 naira can make a difference in the life of a struggling undergraduate in any part of Nigeria, so at PASS.NG we decided to play our part and give the leverage needed no matter how small.”

Sports › Breaking! See How Much Premier League Is Paying All The Premiership Clubs by imoleolu2012(op): 5:19pm On Jun 01, 2017
The Premier League has announced the value of payments of broadcast and central commercial income to its Clubs during the 2016/17 season.

The distribution of broadcast and central income to Clubs supports them in their efforts to develop and acquire talented players, build and improve stadiums, and support communities – all things that fans enjoy and from which society benefits.

The collective and central nature of the way the Premier League markets rights and distributes income to Clubs allows the League and its members to support the entire football pyramid and a range of community programmes and good causes.

The scale of Premier League support and investment in the wider game, and in communities and schools, is unprecedented in the world of professional sport.

Along with our Clubs we provide a range of support for the development of football outside the Premier League, including solidarity payments for all EFL and National League clubs, and the funding of player pensions and welfare and medical insurance costs for all EFL players.

The League and its Clubs fund community facilities across England and Wales, operate national and local sports participation projects, and have recently launched Premier League Primary Stars – a programme that will help to inspire primary school children in everything from maths and English to teamwork and sport.

In addition to our support for the development of English and Welsh football, and for communities and schools, Premier League Clubs last year committed to paying all permanent staff the Living Wage and are currently engaged in a major programme of improvements for disabled fans.

Last year EY published an economic impact report on the Premier League and its Clubs. It found that Premier League football generated £2.4bn in tax revenues in 2013/14, and contributed £3.4bn to the UK’s Gross Value Added.

Webmasters › How A Nigerian Designer Can Build A Profitable And Sustainable Business by imoleolu2012(op):
How to Build a Successful Creative Business in Nigeria

It is relatively easy (especially in the first few years) to kick-start a career as a creative designer; a laptop, power supply and a good internet connection are all you need to begin. However, you will get to a point where there are lots of gigs but little time to execute them.

You begin to experience frequent burn-outs, churning out designs you are not proud of and even totally missing client deadlines. This is a common occurrence to lots of freelance creative designers in Nigeria and if you have decided that the creative industry is for you, then it’s probably time to take your creative business to the next level – making it a profitable and sustainable venture.

We have decided to highlight steps to take as a Nigerian designer in order to make your creative business a successful one on a long term:

Register your business:

This will enable your business to be taken more seriously. You will need to bid for big projects from big companies and even government; they certainly will not do business with an unregistered and unincorporated company! Also in the event of you considering raising investment now or in the future, only a registered company can be legally invested into. You can get more legal advice about that here.

Get out of your room:

You cannot incorporate your creative business and still remain in your room. Guess what! Nobody will entrust your company with a big and serious project if you do not show capacity and seriousness to execute. Getting an office space is easier nowadays especially in the era of shared office spaces. With as low as #240,000 annually, you call one yours and you do not have to worry about power supply, internet access and other business premise costs, as many of the shared office spaces are serviced.

Brand your business:

Create a simple, recognizable and easily remembered brand. Any clients will first look at how you have branded your business first before they can be sure you can do an excellent job with theirs. Also a good brand ensures you are well-priced; you can get good value for your business appearance. The world is ever closer together now, which means your clients can be from anywhere around the world! Get a website, print business cards, and make sure they are the best quality available! It’s not about the quantity but the quality; Remember, “Cheap is expensive”.

Publicize your Business:

If you have the best brand and best skills but no one knows about it, the business is as good as dead! One of the easiest ways to get noticed is to recreate the brand of an existing company in a new, fresh and exciting way, show it to them via social media or physically and they will most likely give you audience.

Also, build a robust portfolio of both paid jobs and free ones, and put them on all social media platforms. Facebook, twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Behance, Tumblr are some of the platforms that your creative business must be represented and active too on a daily basis.

You can promote your portfolio to a wider audience if you have extra budget for marketing on social media. “Seeing is believing”! Take good pictures of your activities with your team and post them constantly.

Form a Dream Team:

You can have a big office space, registered your business and Clients will still no take you seriously if you do not have a team! Plus, your team must have at least one person of the opposite sex and at least one person better than you in other areas (it could be animation, web design or development, Marketing, strategy etc.). Having a mixed team portrays balance emotionally and seriousness.

Your team is everything! As a CEO or Creative lead, your most important duty is to focus on the big picture i.e. to always think of and find ways in which the company will get closer to her set vision and goals. Therefore, you go out, strike the deals, and then allow your “ninja” team to execute them, while you provide direction. Also don’t forget to constantly motivate the team, as a lot of emotional intelligence is needed to lead a team of highly intelligent and creative people.

Keep your books:

I refer to book keeping and accounting in this case. Nowadays, there are accounting firms like Audeo that can keep your accounts for you while you keep them on a retainer fee and focus on running your business. You don’t need to hire an accountant full-time at first. Tax must also be taken seriously, PATE, VAT and income tax should not be over looked, as they will always come back to hunt the business.

Note that the best kind of business is that which can keep running even when you the leader is not around. Make sure that you put systems in place from day one, recruit interns, train them and even retain the good ones; that way, they stay with you longer!

Education › 5 Reasons Why 2017 JAMB And Admission Will Be Tough! And Here Is How To Succeed. by imoleolu2012(op): 4:48pm On Jan 19, 2017
Thinking 2017 JAMB (UTME) Examination and its entire process will be a stroll-in-the park is a very big mistake! Previous years have seen lots of malpractices, poor organization, below par result handling, inefficient management of candidates complaints and so on. But the 2017 UTME examinations by all indications will be stricter and tougher for cheats and here are 5 reasons why:

1.Late JAMB Form sales and registration
Using 2016 JAMB Registration as an example; the registration and sales of forms started August 2015 and went on for another six months, which ended officially on January 19, 2016. But for the 2017 UTME, it’s January now and the forms are not yet on sale! So, it’s obvious that JAMB will not allow registration to remain open for another 6 months, unlike what was obtainable in previous years.

This implies that the registration period for the 2017/2018 JAMB UTME examination will be very short. Therefore, every serious JAMB Candidate out there must know that registration and preparations for 2017 JAMB exams will not be for long. Get prepared!

2. POST UTME exam has been Cancelled

Yes, this was the biggest (and maybe saddest news) for all JAMBITES in 2016. Post UTME exams which started in 2005, was adopted by Universities and Polytechnics alike, to check the loopholes in the JAMB Admission system. And for years it has helped brilliant and diligent students gain admission into their School of choice on merit without knowing anyone in the high places.

With POST UTME scrapped, admission processes will be tougher than ever before. Students will need a very high JAMB score to gain admission into the top universities and to study the ‘most sought after’ courses.

To score high is a factor of repeated and consistent practice using the right tool and resources. You can start practising on PASS.NG, Nigeria’s foremost e-testing platform. By practicing on pass.ng, you have access to 17 years of JAMB past questions with detailed answers from seasoned tutors . You can practice with ease on your android phone or computer (without internet connection). Download Android App here and desktop cbt here to start preparing immediately.

3. Senate has not implemented 3 years validity for JAMB
News broke on October 13th, 2016 that the senate has approved a 3-year validity of JAMB results. This was good news since it means that candidates who had good scores but were unable to secure admission in a particular year could reapply for admission in subsequent years without having to re-sit for JAMB Examination.

These hopes were however dashed by the JAMB registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede who pleaded with the senate to reverse its decision on JAMB results 3-year validity. He believes the policy is not the best for the country at this time. This means that candidates who failed in previous years or couldn’t secure admission will have to re-take the examination, thus reducing the chances of candidates with low scores. Start preparing now.

4. JAMB is Strictly CBT Now

Not to sound cliché, but re-echoing the realities. Since 2015 UTME, JAMB Examinations has gone 100% Computer-based. However, there have been different controversies trailing the newly adopted examination method. But in all, one thing that cannot be taken away from the new method is its security. We all have to admit it is harder to cheat in a Computer-based examination.

The Registrar also stated recently that there will be CCTV cameras in all CBT Centers. If you are thinking of Cheating in the 2017 JAMB CBT, you should re-think and choose the more honorable way of passing your examination by adequately preparing. Practise and prepare with tools like PASS.NG that makes preparation as easy as piece of cake! Get it on mobile or on desktop.

5. Everyone wants to study top Courses

Because of the level of poverty in Nigeria, and the very high unemployment rate, nobody wants to study a course that will make them jobless after graduation. For your information, millions of other Candidates are eyeing and competing for that same course that you want to study. The key is to get a very high score. Examples of such top courses are:

Mechanical Engineering

Electrical/Electronic Engineering

Computer Engineering

Computer Science

Medicine & Surgery

Nursing

Medical Laboratory Science

Civil Engineering

Pharmacy

Architecture

Digital Arts

Economics

Accounting

With over 180,000 JAMB and admission success stories in just two years, you are well-positioned to be a part of this growing community of successful admission Seekers using PASS.NG. Try it now and thank me later.

Webmasters › “I Quit Medical School To Focus On The Creative Industry”: 19-year Old IC Parkli by imoleolu2012(op): 4:34pm On Jan 19, 2017
This week’s interview features Parklins Ifeanyichukwu (IC Parklins), a young Creative Designer who has done well for himself and has inspired a lot of people as well. He talks to us on the challenges he faces, the breakthroughs and gives us some insights on how to gain some advantages as a designer.

Can we meet you?

I’m Parklins Ifeanyichukwu preferably called IC Parklins, where “IC” is the acronym for “Ifeanyichukwu”.I’m a Lagos-based designer, born on the 1st of January, 1998. I’m an undergraduate of Graphic Design and Multi Media specialization at the Academy of Arts University, San Fransisco, CA, USA.

I’m the Creative Designer and Culture Code Chairman at the amazing Chocolate City Group, Graphic Designer at 5ive Music Group and Brand Ambassador at Funzi.
When did you start designing and why did you choose to be a designer?

I started designing Class posters back in high school at age 13 with the school’s computer room desktop. Professionally, I began in 2013 after high school. I decided to be a designer full time after asking myself what I could do without payment and still enjoy it forever and there came design.

What is your core area (s) of expertise as a designer?

My core areas are Branding, User Interface & Experience and Product Design.
Do you think your upbringing has an impact on what you do now?

Not really, my mum seized and tore my drawing books when I was growing up because she wanted me to focus on becoming a doctor.

What is the reason behind your passion for entrepreneurship and what is the objective of the daily success quotes you put up on social media lately?

The summary of this is because I’m on a journey to inspire designers, entrepreneurs and youths. I began this journey after realizing that some of the failures and problems in our world are caused by ignorance, impatience and negative vibes.

What is the greatest risk you have taken so far, as an entrepreneur?

The greatest risk so far has been quitting Medical school and focusing on the creative industry even without a clear destination of whether or not design can be a full time job.

How did you get into chocolate city group at such a young age and what is it like to work with a great man like Audu Maikori?

Taking the risk of venturing into the creative industry was worth it, as it got me into Chocolate City. And most of my on-the-job experiences were gotten by winning design competitions on Stutern.com.

Working with Audu (Maikori) has been remarkably amazing as he exposes I and the team to the benefits of team spirit and a great company culture.
Taking a peek into your daily tasks at chocolate city group; what is it like?

Life in Chocolate City is a daily creative hustle as I and my teams are challenged with how to solve problems, give value and capture value. Since Chocolate City Group is not just a media company but also an idea company, I’m challenged daily to work with the team and enter a lot of brainstorming sessions to help interpret our solutions.

What do you think the future holds for designers in Nigeria and Africa in general?

I think the future holds great things for designers in Africa. By 2020, I think the demand for Designers will be as high as that of Developers, because literally all forms of businesses will require a creative designer to help them better communicate with their audience especially via the New Media.
There have been lots of complaints from both experienced and rookie designers about client attitude towards them over the years. In your view, what can be done to make clients (both corporate and individual) appreciate designers more?

I have been in that shoe a whole lot but here is what I figured that works:

I try as much as possible to not take up task if I have a lot So I get to use a lot of “No” so I don’t accept a project just to please the client unless I can balance it with projects I am working on.
From the beginning of the conversation, it’s a good idea to make the deliverables clear especially formats e.g jpeg, PSD etc.
Always keep an official record of the conversation. E.g. request an email and send deliverables via email even after giving out in hard copy.
Listen to the client but still main rain design principles when dealing because some clients really do not know what they want. I’ma case where a concept has been rejected a couple of times, request a sketch from the client of what they have in mind. This puts them in your shoes and allow them break down their idea into a functional one.

Also, what can be done to make the design profession more attractive to prospective designers?

Prospective designers do not need an attractive industry to come on board, their passion for the hustle will do the attraction.

Where do you see yourself 3 years from now?

Improved, taking more risks and trying out all my ideas. To have initiated a massive movement of positive minded youths in Nigeria and Africa at large.

How do you get inspired, handle stress and pressure on the job?

I spend a great deal of time on Behance, Youtube, Dribble, Pinterest, Shutterstock for Inspiration, spend time with my family and also ask for Inspiration from God himself since he is the father of all creativity. I deal with stress by going to the gym and manage pressure by rejecting too much projects and focusing on my most priority.

What is your definition of design thinking?

Design Thinking is a powerful approach to problem solving. A process for addressing complex problems starting out to empathize, define, ideate, prototype and test.

What is your advice for prospective designers?

My Advice to prospective designers and the entire young people is;

Discover purpose and drive with it. Start up your learning with theeasy for progress. Push daily, even just a little bit. What’s neededis to improve as you move.
Take up design competitions; this is a fast way to build self-confidence in your art.
