Car Talk / US Goverment Plans To Invest $4B In Car Self-driving Research Over The Nxt 10yrs by Imus1: 7:55am On Jan 27, 2016
Every car manufacturer now has an autonomous self-driving program. Now, the U.S. government is starting to work on a national policy for autonomous self-driving cars, and it’s promising to invest $4 billion over the course of the next 10 years “to accelerate the development and adoption of safe vehicle automation through real-world pilot projects.”

The $4 billion is part of President Obama’s 2017 budget proposal, so it could still get shot down in the process. The idea here is to work with the technology industry and auto manufacturers to test connected and autonomous cars “in designated corridors throughout the country.”
Over time, these designated corridors will have to give way to a broader policy. To get to this point, the DOT today said it wants to develop a model state policy on automated driving within the next six months. In the long run, this state policy could then lead to a consistent national policy.
The DOT is also asking car manufacturers to submit rule interpretation requests to see if their autonomous driving features (including self-parking systems, for example) meet its standards. Manufacturers can also ask for exemptions.
“We are on the cusp of a new era in automotive technology with enormous potential to save lives, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and transform mobility for the American people,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx today. “Today’s actions and those we will pursue in the coming months will provide the foundation and the path forward for manufacturers, state officials, and consumers to use new technologies and achieve their full safety potential.”
For now, the states that have policies around self-driving vehicles still require a human driver behind a steering wheel who can take over control if necessary.
Ten years is obviously a long time, but even though the incumbents in the car industry are starting to move faster, it still takes about two to three years to develop a new vehicle in Detroit but there are also still plenty of technological and regulatory hurdles to overcome before self-driving cars will be able to drive down any street.
Nairaland / General / Visafone Acquisition, End For CDMA? by Imus1: 8:55pm On Jan 26, 2016
IT became official, January 5, 2016, that the last Nigerian Code Division Multiple Access, CDMA operator standing, Visafone, has finally succumbed to the terrible distress in that genre of telecommunications operation and allowed itself to be swallowed by a GSM counterpart, MTN Nigeria.
However, when Vanguard carried the news eight months earlier that the CDMA operator may soon melt into another, it was quickly and unofficially, dismissed as a rumour by both players....

Gaming / ‘call Of Duty: Black Ops III’ Was The Bestselling Game Of 2015 by Imus1: 8:37pm On Jan 26, 2016
There were a lot of amazing games released in 2015, and while the likes of Star Wars Battlefront and Fallout 4 captured headlines, an old standby shot its way to the top of the sales chart.
According to NPD, the game industry’s retail tracking group, Call of Duty: Black Ops III was
the year’s biggest seller — not that it should come as much of a surprise. Last year, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare topped the list, though more impressively, 2015 marks the seventh year in a row that the Call of Duty franchise has been the No. 1 seller in North America. All told, the franchise has now passed the 250 million mark. Man, gamers sure like shooting stuff.
The rest of the year’s Top 10 includes the usual suspects, like Madden (No. 2), NBA 2K (No. 6), and Minecraft ( No. 7). Despite their November releases, Fallout 4 and Star Wars: Battlefront nabbed the third and fourth spots, respectively. And just to once again remind you that it’s Call of Duty’s......click to view full story:http://imus-tech..com.ng/2016/01/call-of-duty-bestselling-game-of-year.html#more
Science/Technology / Apple's Multipurpose Watch!! by Imus1: 8:26pm On Jan 26, 2016
What if you went to start your car and Apple Watch stopped you?

Yes, Apple Watch, with your permission, knew you had spent time at a bar, monitored your heartbeat and other physiological data and saw changes indicating that you had been overdrinking.
When you walked to your car, it connected to the CarKit-powered entertainment system, understood your situation and disabled the car’s Start button. You used your Apple Watch to call an Uber instead.
Or, you’re leaving work instead of a bar. Your device connects to your car’s stereo system and, based on your elevated stress level, starts playing your favorite relaxing jams.
It’s almost possible.
For the first time, we will be able to combine previously unattainable data to change how we’re seamlessly interacting with the world (and measuring ourselves in the process).
The Apple Watch is where your digital, physical and physiological worlds begin to intersect.
How does this happen?
Location, location, location It starts with location...click here to read more and view image: http://imus-tech..com.ng/2016/01/whoa-apple-is-insanely-wickedly-awesome.html#more
