PoliticsThe Sham Called Elections In Edo State by infoblaster(op): 3:48pm On Sep 28, 2016
The long awaited and talked about Edo State Gubernatorial elections is about winding up with vote counting presently on in virtually all the polling units. Remember, the elections was initially scheduled to hold on 10th September. 2016, before it was postponed in very strange circumstances to today.

This election is unique from all previously conducted ones, this is the first time elections will be held in the country when voters would be accredited and allowed to vote simultaneously unlike what obtains in the past. The time spent waiting for proper elections to commence after accreditation had been done has been completely eliminated which itself, is good for time management.

A rather disturbing trend reported from virtually most polling units in the state today is the massive and rampant vote buying in today’s elections. Inducement of voters with money is not alien to our electoral process, but what was observed today, is rather very alarming which shows the desperation these our so-called leaders could go all in the name of winning elections.

Today’s elections would most likely go down in the history of the state as one that attracted the most numbers of voter turnouts. A major factor responsible for this turnout is the inducement of voters which was very rampant across the state with security officers turning a blind eyes to the activities of party agent contractors inducing voters with money.

My anger against the good people of Edo state is that which day would they ever come of age and mature enough to stop selling their birth rights during election days for mere pittance? Similar act happened last year during the general elections where it was reported in some polling units that voters went home richer with between N4, 000 and N7, 000 as proceeds of their vote sales. History is presently repeating itself now with the sham currently going on in this gubernatorial elections.

Edo state is in dire need of basic infrastructural developments such as good roads, schools, health care centers and other basic necessities of life which today is a luxury. How do you think someone that bought his way into power would attend to such needs. This is the time for Edo state to wise up!

Oga, this your comment makes me laugh because it shows that you are still a learner when it comes to Nigerian politics. While Tinubu owns an entire region, others struggle to have a firm grip over their single state.

Atiku and Saraki will be the last to realign with Buhari camp against 2019 elections. Forget the present issues or squabbles in APC today, before end of 2017, you will be surprised at how Atiku/Saraki would have closed ranks with Tinubu's camp to secure his support for their political ambition.

Hate it or like it, Tinubu's support for any candidate in 2019 elections will be the winning formula. Persecute or hate Tinubu to your peril.

kahal29:
Ghen Ghen..... The war has started and I don't know who will win at end of the day but what I know for sure is that there is going to be a realignment forces. I see Buhari, Atiku, Saraki, Oyegun camps in APC uniting against Tinubu's camp and how that will play out... .. Only time will tell. My fear for Tinubu is that I don't know whether he gave this recent media onslaught against Oyegun a deep thought. Secondly I don't even know who and who is in his camp presently and finally, this is Abuja/federal politics and not Lagos. These people have beaten him in the National Assembly tussle and if care is not taken they may repeat it again.

Update.

I opened a dispute against the seller which was finally closed yesterday, at present, am expecting a refund of my money back from Aliexpress and now re-order that same item back again. You can imagine what that useless seller has caused me by wasting my time unnecessarily since 15th July, 2016, when he sent a tracking number which refused to be trackable by alleging that the item had been shipped , between when i ordered for the item from him and now, exchange rate of dollars had shot up way up the skies ironically would be borned by me now.

Fellow Nairalanders,

Does anyone know where one can learn shoemaking skills anywhere around? Have just been fascinated about this new business idea on learning a skill that can engage me in my spare time and also complement my monthly finances considering the rough impact this recession is having on everyone in the country presently.

I intend to use my annual vacation holiday to learn something productive and i seem to be much in love with learning shoemaking, have been inspired lately on shoemaking ever since i came across some fanciful shoes being handmade by some industrious young Nigerians.

Please anyone with useful information on where or who could teach one how to make shoes should feel free to drop the details here.

PoliticsRe: Appreciating The Administrations Of Obasanjo, Yar'adua, Jonathan, And Buhari by infoblaster: 12:07pm On Sep 05, 2016
You did a great work here by giving a fairly good assessment of all the PDP elected Presidents we have had. However, i will like to correct a wrong notion which was included in your report. The total amount spent by the government of Olusegun Obasanjo in the power sector was less than $5bn and not $16bn was you wrote in this piece.

The allegation that Obj spent over $16bn in the power sector was a deliberate attempt by some hawks within the corridor of power serving under Pres. Yar'adua to blackmail the person of Obj. Recall that when the House of Reps went on their investigative 'awada kerikeri' on monies spent within the power sector, they came up with the figure $16bn while Pres. Yar'adua at different fora claimed that Obj spent $10bn.

In a bid to reconcile both figures, a committee was set up which was headed by then Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, his committee was able to verify and discovered that the sum spent was less than $5bn which i cant immediately remember now. The most annoying part of this was that, when the report was submitted, our media under-reported which leaves the room for the fictious figure of $16bn to continue trending till today.

TonyeBarcanista:
Permit me to take a cursory but holistic look at the administrations of former Presidents Olusegun Matthew Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar'adua, Goodluck Ebelemi Jonathan, and incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, whose administration is ongoing.

PRESIDENT OLUSEGUN AREMU OBANSANJO (1999-2007)
When Chief Obasanjo was sworn in on May 29, 1999 as the President of Nigeria after his February 27 (1999) triumph at the polls, Nigerians were expectant of better things ahead. He came, met huge debt of about $35billion (year 2000 figure), with Paris Club Consortium being our biggest creditor with $30 billion payable to them (There was actually nothing to show on ground to justify the ridiculous debt); Our External Reserve was a paltry $3.7 billion, with the country in need of progress, institutions, industries, and need to fight corruption.

President Olusegun Obasanjo almost immediately admitted that Nigeria cannot sustain the huge debt and still move forward, he had a high powered economic team led by Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, who doubled as his Finance Minister, to seek for debt relief particularly from our biggest creditors, Paris Club. The effort paid off in 2005 when Paris club announced that they have forgiven Nigeria of $18 billion out of the $30 billion we owed them. As at May 29, 2007, Obasanjo left a Nigeria with external debt of almost zero. Our total debt was $3.348 billion, which included debts incured by the 36 states of the federation http://www.financialnigeria.com/development/developmentreport_category_item_detail.aspx?categoryid=5&item=174

In 2004, President Obasanjo created an account to save excess crude revenue accrued to the country, called Excess Crude Account. The idea behind the ECA is to save for the rainy day. For those that may not understand, the ECA works with the set oil benchmark for each fiscal year. If the Budget (Appropriation Act) for a given fiscal year set Oil benchmark at $50 per barrel and oil is sold at $60 per barrel, the extra $10 earning will be paid into the Excess Crude Account(of Extra Crude Account according to Prof Tamuno David West). According to Madam Oby Ezekwesili, "its primary purpose was to protect the budget against shortfalls and insulate the economy from shocks resulting from volatility in crude oil prices".The Account was $0 as at time of creation in 2004, but rose to $22 billion in December 2007 ($9.8b earned between 2004 and 2006, and $12.3 billion earned in 2007 alone)http://standardtimespress.org/?p=3362.

In fact, the 36 Governors under the Nigeria Governor's Forum had insisted that the ECA be shared, and even went to court. Obasanjo administration was not moved.

In the area of External Reserve, the Obasnjo government performed extremely well by taking our reserve for meager $3.7 billion to a whopping $45 billion.

All these he achieved when oil price was $30(as at 2003) and it was at $90 when he left. He was faced with militancy in the Niger Delta region, and some pockets of crises across the nation.

He created anti-corruption institutions such as EFCC and ICPC, which recorded relative success, as well as indicted powerful government officials including a former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, former minister Fabian Osuji, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Governors, LGA Chairmen etc.

Obansanjo deregulated telecommunication sector, under his administration banking sector boomed as Banks were recapitalised, he unsuccessfully made attempt to deregulate petroleum sector(was resisted), as well as selling the Refineries to private individuals-which was reversed by his successor.

Most importantly, Obasanjo government successfully FOUGHT the scourge of adulterated drugs by strengthening NAFDAC through the former DG and Amazon Prof Dora Akunyili of blessed memory.

DEMERIT
Despite the good deeds of President Olusegun Obasanjo, he had lots of flaws. His government deliberately refused to strengthen the political environment. He disobeyed court order at will especially the Supreme Court order that instructed him to release allocations belonging to the 20 LGAs of lagos state, which he seized due to political disagreement with Lagos state government under Bola Tinubu. http://www.nigerianmuse.com/important_documents/?u=Obasanjo_lawless_unconstitutional_over_LG_funds.htm

The government promoted illegality by backing the illegal removal of Governors that he wasn't favorable to. Among them were Chief Rasheed Ladoja(Oyo state) who was impeached in a hotel by 18 members of OYSHA instead of minimum 22 as required by the law; Joshua Driye(Plateau state), who was impeached by 5 out of 24 members of PSHA, Mr Peter Obi(Anambra), who was illegally impeached within SEVEN MONTHS of winning his mandate in Supreme Court. The Court reversed all aforementioned impeachment.

Obasanjo also dignified godfatherism and exalted godfathers including late Pa Lamidi Adedibu of Amala Politics in Oyo state, Olusola Saraki(Kwara) and Anthony Aninih(Edo) state. Under President Obasanjo, election was neither free nor fair as there was political thuggery, ballot box snatching, electoral fraud of various kind including open fraud perpetrated by INEC in 2003 and 2007 General elections. Political democracy within PDP was lost as the will of Baba must stand.

Most painful is the fact that Chief Obasanjo refused to fixed power even after spending a whopping $16 billion. I recall the former minister of state for power Chief Liyel Imoke once said Nigerians should not expect constant power for the next FIFTY YEARS.

Kizyte:
Maybe you should give him few more days. How many days is left for buyer protection to end?

Next time, read a review about seller and product before placing an order. Some sellers are just so annoying.
The buyer protection ends on the 15th of September, 2016. So i guess i still have little more days grace before i open a dispute against him should in case i dont receive the item.

Nevertheless, what annoys me most is the fear of reodering the item again from another seller with this present Naira-Dollars exchange rate that is not smiling at all.

Kizyte:
Wait for sixty days? shocked Not at all! Contact seller to find out why item hasn't arrived and why tracking information isn't working. If the seller doesn't respond well, make sure you open a dispute before buyer protection ends or extend buyer protection if you want to continue waiting. Your item is really taking long.
Thanks, i contacted the seller but his answer was just too lame for me, he said he verified from the shipping dept and later discovered that the item was shipped without the tracking information through ordinary China Parcel Post.

I got mad at him for it and threatened that if by close of this week i dont receive my item, am going to open a dispute with him because i bought the item from him due to the fact that the shipping company he advertised online has a tracking service which you can use to track your item and now, he went to send through a slow post service.

If am to open a dispute against him today, what is the process like and how long will it take for me to get a refund of my money back?

@Kizyte, Please i ordered for an item on aliexpress which was shipped on the 15th of July, 2016. As at now, it has not arrived and no information on it yet whenever i try to track it online. What even baffles me most is that items that i ordered on gearbest early part of this month had arrived and the one ordered for last month yet to arrive.

Please, from your experience, what do you think could be responsible for the delay and do you think i should contact the seller to complain or i should just wait for the normal 60 days delivery period?
BusinessRe: Simple Steps On How To Import From China by infoblaster: 11:36pm On Aug 09, 2016
@Kizyte, i ordered for an item on aliexpress and received a mail that it was shipped on 15th july, 2016 through China post. uptill now, no information or update is available as regards the shipment.

The most annoying aspect is that China post website is not user friendly at all, i tried tracking on an alternative website provided by the seller it keeps on coming back with no information available for that order.

Please what do you advise i do? This is my first time of using aliexpress cos i shop mostly on gearbest and knows how it works.

Thanks

This craziness needs not be encouraged in any civilised society, if all electricity customers stops paying their bills today and begins to fight or resist electricity workers on lawful duties, wont the power sector collapse? And yet, this is a nation that has acute gap in power availability in need of massive investments to turn the situation around.
