Eric and Lilian had been dating for a year when the latter got pregnant. When Lilian broke the news to her lover, he suggested that they got rid of the pregnancy. Eric explained, “honey, you know I love you and would love nothing more than to settle down with you eventually but right now, I ’m not financially buoyant. “I would not want us to have a child out of wedlock but I don’t have the money to spend on a wedding now. So, my dear, let’s get rid of the pregnancy. I promise you, we will have an elaborate wedding ceremony later on.” Lilian replied, “darling, as Christians, you know it is a sin for us to commit abortion. Remember that God says in Exodus 20:13: “Thou shall not kill”. “Since we love each other, rather than committing murder, why don’t we just have a small ceremony at the registry or in the alternative, I’ve an uncle who loves me a lot and I know if we go to him, he ’ll assist us financially.” Eric agreed to follow Lilian to her uncle to solicit for assistance. On getting there, they told him their problem. To Eric’s surprise, the uncle not only gave them a warm welcome, he promised to bankroll the wedding. Uncle K as Lilian fondly called him asked them to go and do an estimate and let him know what it would cost. Uncle K said, “Eric your fiancee is my favourite niece, as a result, I ’ll make sure I spare no cost in making her wedding a huge success. “So don’t think of a small wedding, plan for an elaborate one and let me have the budget”. The lovebirds left Uncle K happier than they came. They did as they were told and the next day, presented Uncle K with a budget of N1.8 million. Uncle K was true to his words. He gave the couple a cheque of N1.8 million. After collecting the money, the couple began preparation for their wedding. A day was picked and the couple went to court to legalise their union. The court registrar pronounced them husband and wife after a short ceremony and the couple proceeded to the venue of the wedding reception held in their honour. The wedding reception which was held under the chairmanship of Uncle K was a huge success. There was plenty to eat and drink, and the guests enjoyed themselves. Shortly after their wedding, an old school mate of Eric who could not attend the couple’s wedding came calling. On getting to the couple’s residence, he met only Eric at home. Eric told his friend, Kevin, that his wife had gone to the salon. He then brought out the wedding album for his guest. When Kevin opened the album and saw the snapshot of the couple, he shouted,” Eric, don’t tell me Lilian is the lady you married? Eric who was astonished by Kevin’s reaction replied, “OI’ boy, you know my wife? Yes, Lilian is the love of my life”. To which Kevin replied, “oh my God. How can you be so unlucky? You mean you didn’t know she was into runs. I know her very well. My uncle happened to be one of her aristos”. Eric cut in, “Uncle K, did you say Uncle K? Please hold on. He quickly browsed through the wedding album and opened to the place where the chairman, Uncle K was coordinating the cutting of the cake. He then asked, are you referring to this man? Is he your uncle? His friend answered “Yes, that is my uncle. So he even attended your wedding? This is unbelievable. How did your wife introduce him?” Eric responded, “she told me he was her uncle. Infact, he sponsored our wedding.” On discovering the truth about his wife’s relationship with Uncle K, Eric sent her packing. If you were in his shoes how would you react? . |

“IT’S absolutely impossible to know a woman totally, no matter how hard you try.” These were the exact words of one of my friends when his relationship with his girlfriend went sour. He went on and on telling me how he tried to please her, give her everything she needed and wanted. He felt his world was shattered, that he wouldn’t be able to pick the pieces of his life again after the “horrible thing” that has happened to him. In another development entirely, a young ladyfriend recently confessed that men could be jerks. She said after the relationship with her ex-boyfriend hit the rocks, he went everywhere he knew and blackmailed her. She said, he reported bad things about her to whoever was willing to listen. With these two stories and so many more that I’ve been opportuned to hear, what I think is seriously lacking is self identity. Many a times, we look for something that will complement us in relationships, jobs, fashion, etc. But the fact lies in knowing and understanding ourselves first. Like fashion experts will tell us, first know what suits us best before you buy them. Job experts will tell us to find the job that gets us fulfilled and the relationship experts will tell us to get a man or woman of our dreams. Like someone would say, “many of us are having problems with our relationships because we go into a relationship with the wrong people in the first place. Most of the time, to some of us, it’s as if we are putting a square peg in a round hole.” Some will identify with this person, while others will not. But what experts lay emphasis upon, over and over again, is that each individual should know himself/herself first before going into a relationship. It is believed that you cannot give what you don’t have. For instance, if you don’t love yourself, chances are that you will not love another person. You give a certain degree of what you have. Likewise, you operate on the certain level of information you have about yourself, or something, to perform a project. Since every project you undertake has a direct or indirect impact on your life, it is recommendable that you have full information about such a project and how to accomplish it before you start off. This is why it is very important before you start a relationship, or even if you are already into it, to know who you are, be friends with yourself first and ultimately love yourself. |

It is a critical matter which must be handled with care. If I love the lady and if I’m privy to the fact that she once led a wayward life, I will continue with the relationship. But if she had given me the impression that she had led a chaste life before I met her, I will send her away immediately I learn the truth. ![]() |
When Lucy was in tertiary institution, she was one of the big girls on campus. The room she lived in was well furnished, she had a nice car, she was always impeccably dressed and had a lot of money to throw around. Not many people knew that she was from a poor background or that her parents lived in a remote village in Imo State. The life of affluence Lucy lived on campus was courtesy of her numerous sugar daddies or aristos, as they are popularly called. Whenever any of her aristos needed her services, Lucy would lie to her friends and colleagues that she was traveling to Abuja, Jos, Port Harcourt or wherever her contractor ‘dad’ was transacting his business at that particular point in time. So while she was busy prostituting herself in Abuja or Port Harcourt, her friends would think she had gone to collect money from her dad. Being a brilliant girl, Lucy was able to graduate with a second class lower despite her frequent absences from school. At the completion of her studies, one of her aristos influenced her being posted to Lagos and also that she served in an Oil Company. At the end of her service year, the same man made sure she was retained at the company. Two years after joining the oil company, Lucy resigned her appointment in order to pursue her Masters degree abroad. It was while studying abroad that she met and fell in love with a young Nigerian, Kunle. Six months into their relationship, Kunle proposed to Lucy and she gladly accepted his marriage proposal. The love birds decided to come to Nigeria to meet their respective parents before preparing for their wedding which they slated for the following year. They came to Nigeria and went to Lucy’s village in Imo State. There, Kunle was warmly accepted by Lucy’s parents who were happy that their daughter had chosen to marry a Nigerian and not a white man. The following week, it was Kunle’s turn to introduce his fiancée to his parents. When they got there, his mother was the only one at home. The woman was so happy that her son was now ready to settle down that she accepted Lucy with open arms. Shortly after their arrival, Kunle’s father breezed in, his son introduced his fiancée to his father who greeted the young lady coldly then excused himself from the gathering. He however asked Kunle to see him before his departure. When it was time to leave, Kunle went to his father’s room to say his goodbye. On getting there, his father told him point blank that he could not marry Lucy. Kunle asked his father for the reason but he refused to say anything. He however insisted that if Kunle decided to marry Lucy against his wish, he would not attend their wedding and would also disown him. When they got back to Kunle’s apartment, Lucy who had read the handwriting on the wall confessed to Kunle that his dad was once her aristo. She explained that she engaged in the practice to keep soul and body together, since her parents were so poor they could barely pay her school fees. Kunle told Lucy that he could no longer marry her. He explained that if it had been another man, he would not have minded but since the man in question was his dad and had even threatened to disown him if he went ahead with the wedding, they have to call it quits. That was how their relationship ended. If you were in Kunle’s shoes, would you give up your love if you discovered she once dated your dad? |

After an intense game of hide and seek in the Maitama area of Abuja, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Chief Bode George, a retired navy commodore and chieftain of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) late night on Wednesday . SaharaReporters had exclusively reported that Chief George was penciled down for arrest over his tenure as the chairman of the Nigeria Port Authority (NPA), a period that resulted in the theft of billion of naira by members of the NPA board f which Chief George was chairman. SaharaReporters could not confirm officially from the EFCC regarding Chief George's whereabout, but a source close to the operations told our reporters that he is being quizzed at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja. |
