Wike did not lose. Rule of law lost. Civilian lost against military. This shows that Military can do anything they like and nothing will happen. The Nigerian people lost. Democracy lost.
So tomorrow, military can do anything to Nigerians and nothing will happen.
They can bully anybody and it will be in vain.
Military authority won against Democratic Authority even in the face of military illegality.

Last last, na all of us go collect... If you celebrate this, then you are celebrating future pains that will be meted on you by the military because you cannot escape it
No law empowers any political appointee of government to demolish any building in Nigeria except by a court of competent jurisdiction.

Wike didn't provide any court order authorizing him to demolish the said property.

Him just realizing it made him pull out of the site in the end.

Wike has been defeated on this matter. He cover his face in shame.

The military also is complicit in this matter, they have no business meddling in civil matters, their job is to protect the territorial integrity of Nigeria but unfortunately you see them carrying bags for yahoo boys, white men, so on.

koxyz:
My dear, what is the essence of having huge reserves and majority of your people wallow in poverty.

Increment in imports tarrif will automatically lead to higher cost of goods and services thereby leading to continuous improvishment of the people

The government can give concessions to those willing to establish refineries in Nigeria this will speed up progress in that sector rather than subjecting Nigerians to unnecessary hardship
Yes, it would lead to higher cost of good and services, but at the same time this will discourage importation and lead to patronage of local refinery over foreign ones, sustaining jobs in another country at the expense of our own people.

You People like to praise Donald Trump for introducing tariffs to protect capital flight from his country and protect local industries but will turn around criticize your country for doing same.

koxyz:
You have stated the obvious facts but when those refineries come on stream,we can then start contemplating on imports tarrif.
No sir. We cannot afford to allow free dumping of refined products into our country, we urgently need to build up our foreign reserve.

We cannot afford to spend scarce forex on petroleum imports. Our reserve is about $43billion currently, it's need to get to about $100billion. Take it or leave it.

koxyz:
Anyone that advised government to implement imports tarrif on petroleum products at this moment must be a wicked person.
Allowing importation of substandard petroleum products into this country wont do us any good in the long run. You are export jobs to other refining countries by doing so. Yes you might enjoy it now by way of cheap fuel but it would hurt our economy, deplete foreign reserves. Lets be patient, by the time BUA refinery comes on stream, the $50Biillon refinery that is about to be constructed in Ondo comes on stream, our economy will be good for it.

Cromagnon:
how does a tax protect you Abi they are just looting to buy private jet
This question you are asking is unnecessary really because its a very simple.

Firstly, If you are into refinery busines in this country, that 15% protects you from foreign competition.

Secondly, it preserves our scarce forex, and then attract other players into that industry leading to more jobs for Nigerians and then just imagine that BUA comes on stream and then adopt cost reduction strategy to overcome barriers to entry into that industry, competition would set in and thus prices of petroleum products will come down for nigerians to buy cheap.

Challenge to Nigerian: If you own your house, try and adopt biogas plant in a corner of your house. Atleast, you will be having a regular gas production of your own for your cooking and can also connect your tenants at a little monthly cost....your tenants will actually be paying you for the gas they are consuming instead of carrying cylinders up and down. Nigerians need to be proactive instead of waiting for miracle from a corrupt government....

BusinessRe: CSOs Slam 15% Fuel Tariff As ‘death Blow’ To Competition And Consumers by integrity16(m):
That 15% has come to stay whether they like it or not.

BUA refinery is coming up soon. It may seem that the government is protecting dangote, well that's the benefit of being the first to take the initiative to exploit business opportunities in the downstream sector of the petroleum industry

Committing such humongous outlay of $20billion to build a refinery of that size is no joke, and to see him fight off so many cabal in that industry to a stand still? That's very admirable. MTN enjoyed it in the Telecom industry. Let dangote enjoy!

Dangote Refinery is not the only refinery operating in the country, there is Walter Smith refinery, and one other refinery, I can't remember the name now. So to say the 15% is protecting a single refinery is wrong.

Wow! Congratulations to me for making first to comment after all these years.

The minister is not a wise man ...

Do you know the hype it will bring to the league thereby increasing marketing in form shirt sales for the club, increase ticket sales at each stadium, advert for companies etc and would have translated to increase revenue not only for the club he joined but the Football Association.

Renewing a rivalry between Ronaldo and messi given the later is in another club far way Asia in the middle east will be another dimension to football in the closing years of their career.

The minister should be relieved of his job he lacks foresight...his decision was borne out off emotions.
Perhaps, they don't need all those things you mentioned. They are a wealthy nation already.

You're calling me a lier but earlier this year when jamb results were out, a school in Yorubaland celebrated an igbo lad who scored highest in the state but the whole community and even Yorubas online were calling for the head of the L.G.A chairman who publicised the boy's achievement. He had to come out publicly to criticise the ethnic bigotry of his own people.
Oga when I served in Anam at the ministry of youth and sports development, there were Yorubas in the ministry, the man who signs my clearance form was a Yoruba, Mr Kehinde. Even at the secretariat there were Yorubas and Hausas working there. So relax.

When it comes to tribalism, no other people carry it for head like South west people, shey I live in Lagos and I know what I'm seeing and facing here.
You still don't get it.

I called you liar, not because what you said isn't true. But because you said that it only in Yoruba land that tribalism and nepotism happens.

I am telling you that it is true. Nepotism and tribalism happens all over the country, you cannot just single out the Yorubas. That's my point.

GeneralOuki:
Such things only happens in Yorubaland. If it's in the South west, the school would have sidelined her and awarded the best performing indigene to avoid issues from the public.
Liar, it happens everywhere in Nigeria. Nepotism is not peculiar to certain tribes, It is a Nigerian thing. The Yoruba’s have even been more liberal than any other tribes in Nigeria, and I speak from my experience. I have seen other tribes being recruited in state government offices in Lagos, something you hardly hear about in other states. I went to General Hospital at Broad street some year back, a non Yoruba was the one who attended to me, excellent service. So nah, you are wrong.

Congratulations to the school for not judging based on tribal sentiments. Other schools would have brushed her aside and choose the next best Igbo students as the best.

This shows we still have sincere people in this country who are not nepotistic and tribalistic.

BusinessRe: Responsibility Of Nigerian Regulators In Preventing A Dangote Refinery Monopoly by integrity16(m): 4:37am On Oct 30, 2025
Olaide1295:
Actually, valid points raised.
We must ensure the Dangote refinery survive and continue to expand.Even though it’s in a free trade zone and pays no corporate taxes.
But must also ensure to allow some form of competition from imports.
I’m not sure I agree a 15% tariff on imports is needed.
Creating competition through imports is an unfair competition, and it's an open door for importation of substandard fuel into this country.

We must create competition through local production by supporting other refinery projects. Like BUA and others, that's how to create competition.

Please, they should leave Dangote alone. He has done what the Nigerian government couldn't do since 1960, let him enjoy the benefits of being the first private company to enter that downstream market. MTN enjoyed it, Dangote must also enjoy it too.

If you don't want that to happen, support the advent of other refineries in the country. simple!

Even with the high fuel price they are still diverting fuel

This was the same format they used in 2023 when they said our fuel was the cheapest in west Africa that if they increased the fuel price , diverting fuel would stop

Alas here we are now
Our fuel is still cheap, It is not a lie. If our fuel prices are higher than the neighbors why would they be diverting fuel to them?

You also forgot that our naira is devalued and so it is less valuable than that of our neighbors, so it makes sense why tankers would want to sell to neighboring countries for massive gains.

How can anyone be applauding the deployment of thousands of trucks on dilapidated roads that can barely sustain the existing trucks

I bet Nigerian road users are about to face some serious road stress in the coming months

Instead of looking to build rail infra you are importing more trucks and enriching China while damaging further already bad roads

Were they denied personal protective equipment? You people just like to comment on topics you don't have adequate knowledge of. I remember Dangote sending 800 of these trainee engineers to India for training before the commencement of the refinery back then, you can Google it.

Do you know how much dangote had invested in them in terms of training before they even started working in the refinery? Instead of them to be loyal to that organization, they started sabotaging it, now look at where it has landed them?
