Oga rest na una dey fine trouble. Those guys open thread to appreciate nature, you come dey vex. Why can't you just ignore the thread and focus on your thing, instead you come dey troll them. See bro South Africa is far ahead of Nigeria in anything you can think of. I'm Nigeria I don't support nonsense. You start the fight. The Lagos that you're using to brag was develop by the British. Aside from Lagos which other states is developed in Nigeria. Since the British left Nigeria which significant development you have done from 1963 till date. So the White help develop Nigeria too. The south Africans are good people. Infact the nicest people on Earth. South Africans have a good heart. South Africa is the only country that immigrants will live comfortably, marry their women, work and invest in their country and you still call them lazy in their own land and not react physically. Can you try that in Nigeria be sincere. Can Ghanians living in Nigeria call Nigerians lazy.will you take that. Even in Nigeria it will difficult for an Igbo man to marry a Fulani woman. Or a Yoruba girl to marry outside her tribe. South Africa is the best country where different race live in harmony.

Don't mind Nigerians. How can people that hate on themselves have the right to taunt another country with xenophobic remarks..

1. Enter their website , choose if you are doing in from Nigeria or overseas
https://passport.immigration.gov.ng/

2. Confirm your NIN details on the website if good proceed if not go to NIN office to make rectification before coming back to the website to proceed

3. Fill all the details requested, for renewal the details isn't much but for new passport I guess more will be requested. This stage took less than 20 minutes to complete

4. Pay the required fee depending on validity of your passport, 10years 70k while 5 years 35k.

5. Print the documents issued after payment and photocopy of old passport and book a date on the website that is convenient for submitting your documents at any NIS office of your choice as depicted on your booking.

6. Use your reference number and your application number to login and track your progress, once it's time to do capture you will know from your online Portal. It's seamless

Some people paid 120k for NIS officials to do this for them but the procedure seems fo easy that will be done within minutes before you interface with NIS . After 1st September I guess that feels will hit 200k for those who want others do it for them.
Thanks bro

I no understand you, I renewed my passport this year around March. I did it myself just going through the procedure listed by the immigration services (NIS) and I got my passport reproduced within 6 to 8 weeks though on their website it's 6 weeks. I payed a total of 73 thousand naira, 70k was for the 10yr validity fee while the rest was ATM charges

It's easier now, I have been patronizing those crooks from NIS for a long time but decided this time I won't give any one a dime

Some of you think having a passport means relocating from Nigeria, if you are a serious professional you will have your passport ready at all times because duty can take you out of your vicinity with little notice time.

Please could you State the steps you took to do it yourself?

When you come first
Each career choice has its skills certifications
Some just require you to have GED which is actually easier than WAEC.

So for example Trade skills have certifications, e.g electrical work, welding, plumbing , general labor etc. These have different certs and some have apprenticeships. Occupational health and Safety certs.
Health sector has different career choices , you can be a medical biller, a nurse assistant, home health aide many of these don't need a university degree.

Hospitality sector , etc

So if you have a sector you're interested in them you can look at the certifications in that area and you can get them to move up in the that sector.
Community colleges give different certificates, some certifications come from the training body so it may be online.

Wow, thanks. This is very helpful

Congrats to everyone who has gone through interview process.

Lots to do and think about right now.
Air tickets
USA is really large, treat every state like a country. One person's experience in Minnesota is different from another's experience in Alabama.
I know it's expensive but do try to get flights as close to your final destination as possible. It might be tempting to do some journeys by coach(luxurious bus) but if you have a lot of luggage then it's not a good option. Coach station maybe a long distance from airport.

Soft landing
It's okay to do soft landing..arrive in the US and stay for 2/3 months and come back. It might give you time to regroup, understand what you will face and how better to prepare for your new country. Just make sure you return within 6 months.

Transcripts and Certificates
Please take your original academic certificates with you. Reach out to your universities to get your student copy of your transcript.
There are jobs that will require you to have your foreign certificates evaluated.Although they may need your institution to send it directly to them, they will also require your original certificates so bring them with you.

No academic records? No problem
No worries, USA is a country of certification. Lots of jobs require us based certification to qualify so you have plenty opportunities to learn something new and earn income.
Take advantage of learning opportunities around you.
USA has a lot of job specialisation..what one person would do in Nigeria is split into what 5 people would do abroad.

Living with your host
Lowe your expectations, it's a different country a different culture. Paying all bills on a monthly basis put pressure on people no matter how much you think you know them. Be grateful for whatever they offer and quickly find ways to sustain yourself and contribute to household chores and expenses even if it's a little,. Always contribute regularly. If all you can afford is the type of bread the family eats then make sure that's what you buy regularly.
Lastly
SSN and Credit cards
Don't get carried away by credit cards, research online how to use them to you financial benefit. Don't just listen to what people tell you about using CC
Guard your SSN, it's not uncommon that even some hosts will use your SSN to claim tax returns, sell to those will use same to give those who can't work those details to find work, or use them to apply for CC with your details.
Asides from opening an bank account I don't think there's anyone else who needs your SSN.
When in doubt ask whoever it why they need it and if you're not satisfied just go online and see what you get.

Shine your eye..there are many scammers in the US.
text scams , phone call scams etc

All the best in your new life

I'd like you to be specific on the types of certifications academically or vocationally one can get in the USA, especially someone without prior school records in Nigeria.

Thanks for the great piece
Politics / Re: Let Be Honest, Will Nigeria Ever Be Great Again? by internationalman(m): 9:13am On Aug 05
Greatness and development start in the mind of a person. It's mental thing.

The way an average Nigerian reasons, I'm afraid the answer to your question is no. At least for the foreseeable future.

Secondly, Nigeria and its system is like a house built on sandy foundation that is dilapidating gradually. Until it's completely dilapidated (revolution or in whatever way that happens) for a new one to be built on solid foundation (rock), only then we can begin to see development and greatness

You have a first degree and a job to your name in these trying times and you dare ask if you are doomed.. Wait till you hear other people stories, then you would thank God for your life.. I know for a fact that there are at least 1 million people ready to snatch and grab that job of yours if you quit.

Be happy with your current state why you strive for more progress..

The problem is that you are feeling bad because you see many people who are more well to do than you but at the same time failing to realize that there are people happier than you that you are more well to do than.

Just blame life for being too hard and move on. Nor overstress yourself because You self don try

Gerrard59:

Why should he save 50 million when inflation and devaluation eat up the money? Why do you think it is not possible to save that amount as a bank manager? I think most of you people under-rate certain professions and the earnings they make. Yes, there is corruption, but people do earn quite a lot in certain industries in Nigeria and legitimately as well. I believe the major problem is the dearth of accurate information regarding salaries in corporate Nigeria. Most importantly, the mama-put woman is an entrepreneur, not an employee. Apples to oranges, not apples to apples.

That said, the mama-put woman has done well for herself. But if she migrates to Australia to pack sheet, she can never live a decent life compared to while in Nigeria. Again, no sheet packer in Australia lives a decent above a bank manager in Nigeria. If you disagree, maybe you should define what the phrase "decent life" means as a sheet packer.

If anyone wants to pack sheet, that is okay. But correlating that to living a decent life in Australia above a bank manager in Nigeria is abominable.

You made your point and I get it.

But my point is, in Nigeria, most people you think are miserable because of the nature of their job are well to do than the so called bank manager..

To me it's not always the nature of the job.

Nigerians normally look down on people doing a less academic professional jobs because of the disparity in the way they are treated..

The disparity in Nigeria is so unbelievably ridiculous. How can a Bank manager be earning 1.5M to 2M and his subordinates earn 80k, 100k, 120k and the security people at the gate earn as low as 30k to 50k. You think that disparity is normal? The same Bank manager earning 1.5M to 2M probably has a gate man and a house girl at home whose combined salary don't amount to 5% of his salary. You also think that's normal..

I believe if the gap in salaries is narrowed, or if the high earners in Nigeria are taxed let's say 40% of their salaries you wouldn't think so high of them as much as you do now.

People get rich in advance countries by being self employed and employing people in return and as a result contributing to government revenues and consequently lessening the burdens of government. But in Nigeria most of those bank managers and other top office holders and some other rich people generally, get rich by cheating the system and benefiting from the system more than the system benefits from them by taking advantage of crooked Government policies that in the first place, was set out to favour them solely.

There are a lot of policies I would change and put in place to make life easy for the poor people if I were selected 😉 the president of this country... But unfortunately our leaders are also selected from the categories of the rich people I aforementioned in the immediate paragraph above. So they don't know what it feels like to be poor and suffering and as such you don't expect them to make any policies that would favor the poor more than them.

We all saw how police were using dogs to disengage the protesters in UK. There's barely a single police seen holding a gun let alone pointing it at unarmed people..

Highest force you would see them apply is to use baton while puting on body shield to disengage the protesters.

Nothing in Nigeria is normal

I belong to this group because you stated that someone who packs sheet for a living lives a decent life than a bank manager in Nigeria. That was a terrible comparison as no matter the issues Nigeria has, a sheet packer in the abroad CAN NEVER have a better life than a bank manager in Nigeria. Your comparison was the issue.

I am glad you are able to get a role within your industry and obviously on merit - a great feature of every developed society. Congratulations! But please, let's fear God when we make certain comparisons. As you can read above, I have nothing against anyone relocating anywhere, whether from Nigeria or to Nigeria and elsewhere. But some comparisons are out of place.

Na the name of the profession dey decieve most people shall.

I know a restaurant woman at my junction that sells many varieties of food that has already built 2 houses and currently laying foundation for the third one as I type this comment. Mind you, it's just a mama put kind of restaurant but she swims in millions. People patronize her a lot because she knows the business well.

People like you go still say you can't compare a mama put woman at the junction with a bank manager..

How much is a Bank Manager's salary by the way. Can he save 50 million in 10 years without involving himself in fraudulent activities in the Bank? That's the only way most of these top office holders in Nigeria become rich anyway..

Some people care about the means no matter how lucrative and rewarding the ends may be.

While others don't give a damn about the means as long as it justifies the ends...

So I understand why OP would make that statement.

I beg to disagree.

Jay Z has been on tracks where he isn't the last.

Even Nas, method man, rakim, buster, jada, etc

Nas was the first to rap on give it up fast with mobb deep.

He was like 2nd or 3rd to the last on the outro of lil Wayne's album.

He was first on the track John blaze feat big pun

I think they reserve it out of respect for the featured artist.

Sometimes it's cos the artist sent it late or later

But I get ur point

Eminem is the only rapper that peaked at the time when streaming wasn't much of a thing, and yet most of his songs that he released prior to the streaming eras are still up there in the top lists of various streaming platforms...

One thing I like about rap besides the lyrics is the flows and the way it's delivered. That's why most of this new age rappers don't do it for me. As a matter of fact I feel most of them SING MORE THAN THEY RAP. A case study is Drake.

Go listen to Forever by Drake ft Kanye, Lil Wayne and Eminem, despite all of them killing their verses, the first 3 of them seemed like they were just reading out a written speech. Now listen to Eminem's verse, His fusion of words, double entendre, cadence and flows synchronizing with the beat despite it being a slow beat. Most rappers just rhyme only the last words of every lines, but Eminem most times rhymes every word in a line..

Lastly, Eminem's verse's in songs are like Bible verses, you don't fully or completely understand it at first second or even third time. The more you read it the more you discover new meaning to it. His rap is not for lazy minds at all.
Celebrities / Re: Court Document Reveals P Diddy Paid $1 Million For Tupac Assassination by internationalman(m): 8:56am On Jul 28
blowjohn:

Na fear.
Eminem can't go toe to toe against game on a diss verse. His disadvantage is application of knowledge and tone of the lyrics

Do you know that in the Hip Hop world, the last verse in a track is always saved for the best rappers.. Check almost all the track that Eminem collaborated with other rappers in, he always has the last verse.. if you think it's a lie ask Google, quora or YouTubers
