Ok let's douse the tensions a bit *** So first off, contracting the virus doesn't mean death. Yes it's possible to recover from it. Actually, the virus could get into your body, live out its lifespan and die off without you even noticing it was ever there. Especially for persons that have previously experienced cold related illnesses. *** Its not airborne. Therefore, wearing a face mask doesn't exactly protect you. However it prevents an already infected person from spreading the virus. What really protects you is your personal hygiene. The NCDC advices using an alcohol based hand sanitizer (they didn't say consume alcoholic drinks o) or regular washing of the hands with soap under running water for at least 30 secs, as well as keeping the hands away from the mouth, eyes and nose. *** Covid-19 is not as deadly as you might assume. Let's do the maths: about 25,000 deaths have been recorded from around 500,000 reported cases all over the world. This means the mortality rate of Covid-19 is only 5% at the moment. When compared to common African epidemics like malaria which according to the UNICEF kills 3,000 children daily in Sub-Saharan Africa and causes around 1-3million deaths per year, the Covid-19 is 'a joke'. *** Although about 25,000 people worldwide have died from Covid-19, it is worthy to note that 80% of the casualties are older people and a few young persons with respiratory issues. These are the most vulnerable because in intense situations, the virus can cause severe breathing problems. It means you stand a very good chance of fighting it off if you don't have a history of respiratory issues. *** Another common misconception is the assumption that because infected persons are taken to an isolation center, it is a very deadly disease... Well special equipments like ventilators (a machine that aids breathing) are quite expensive and are therefore only available at isolation centres. Also Covid-19 is highly contagious and spreds easily. Hence, the need to quarantine infected people so as to protect uninfected people. *** In summary, covid 19 is sort of a 'glorified variant' of cold and catarrh and maybe pneumonia (in intense situations). Theres only much fuss about it because its highly contagious and can get to a lot of people in a very short period. If this happens, we'll overwhelm our scarce medical resources and unleash the real pandemonium. So chill out people, we'll beat this like we did ebola, Lassa fever and all others before it. *** Hope this calms your nerves? Great! Stay at home and enjoy the 'corona holidays' you'll not get any more of it until another 100 or 1000 years. Cheers ![]() Itopa_Khan Cc lalasticlala |
