CultureNigerians:Have U Ever Been Mistaken For Any Nationality/Ethnicity Besides Yours? by itstpia1(op): 1:06am On Oct 11, 2014
I havent.

Never been mistaken for anything but Yoruba and Nigerian.

However, i do hear people say they sometimes get asked if they're some other country or ethnic group (probably more common with light skinned people perhaps).

so, what nationalities have you been confused with by others?

i know the common ones include carribean (jamaican), AA, etc.

within Nigeria, have you ever experienced being thought of as another tribe or state?

Whether Canada or Nigeria, it does not matter. All she needs is a flight ticket. I'm quite sure the granny will welcome her with open arms for the sake of the little girl.
However, the grandma lives in Nigeria. That is the likely place the child will be. From what i read here, the son Izu has finished his studies in Uk and moved back to Nigeria. Temmy should join them.
she needs to know where the son and grandma actually are, first.

since she was talking of "lots of toys", i'd suspect canada although perhaps onila can tell us more.

second, she also claimed her "little sister" is living with her in the UK.

how do you know the mother isn't a dual-citizen? even if she's not - the crime was committed on british soil. the grandma broke a law in britain....british law would prosecute her for that regardless of whatever is written in the nigerian constitution.
the daughter is a student, so its likely she came on a student visa.

around 2009 or so.

I have read most of the comments. I really think that Temmy has not given us all the valid info in this case. The Grandma cannot simply walk in and take the child out of UK. However, grandma should'nt have done that. I'm sure she has her reasons.

Methinks that the best solution right now for Temmy is for her to pack her bags and move to PH to be with both her Daughter and Grandma. From what i've read so far, it appears that grandma is capable of taking care of both Temmy and her grandchild. Things could even work out for the best for everybody involved. It's not complulsory for the child to be raised in the UK.

Temmy should relocate to PH. Who knows, she may form a family unit with the father, her daughter and the grandma.

How come none of you commentators thought of this. You all are busy dishing out blames. My suggestion could be a constructive solution to the problem. Grandma and son obviously love the girl. Temmy should join them in PH, Nigeria. Chikena..
the son actually seems to be in canada.

so its far more likely the "grandma" took the child there, in any case, she would be just as likely to go to canada as nigeria or barbados.

and yes, canada is visa free for her.

besides, its very doubtful she'd be able to hide the child in PH.

the crime was committed in britain, british laws apply.
here's the official document on international abductions:

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/265613/Int_Child_Abduction_1113_AW.pdf

if the child is a Nigerian citizen, then the case is not straightforward.

If the grandma is carribean, depending on their laws, the child could also be a carribean national.

all these need to be defined legally and no, it does not solve the issue if abduction is claimed.

the mother also has to provide the child's name, age, date of birth, passport details, nationality.

if the child was born in britain, she is british by birth. Ordinary common sense
being born in the UK does not confer "British" on the child.

kindly reduce your aggressiveness and use your time to look up these basic facts before fighting.

this child probably has UK papers, which makes English law pretty much relevant undecided
the child doesnt have UK papers unless one of the parents is a British citizen.

or unless the grandma is British?

nah.....
her chosen lifestyle has nothing to do with the stolen child as long as she's not abusive to the child. the case cannot even go to court - mothers take custody of the kid in nearly all the cases unless she's a complete junkie without the capacity to take care of a child.
reread your post very well.

the son said he will respond to the allegations soon.

i think those of us who say its not Nigerian culture, are missing something.

amazing, i just read a story where a Nigerian (?) lady said she had UNPROTECTED SEX TWO years ago and got pregnant.

which Nigerian culture encourages this, since we all know not every culture in Nigeria is the same.

yes, i know Nigeria is also a center for baby farms where males and females are paired together, inseminated and children delivered with no visible father.
