Nigerian midfielder John Ogu is currently in Italy to pally up with his international colleagues Ogeyi Onazi and Obinna Nsofor. Onazi who plays for Lazio starred at the just concluded worldcup while Obinna was in Keshi's preliminary worldcup squad but Ogu was a total absentee due to the fall out he had with his club Academica towards the end of last season.

The 26 year old who is known for his patriotism has 17 caps for the Nigerian team, made his debut against Kenya last year and scored his first and only goal in a friendly match against Mexico. Boris Becker was spotted having a knock-about at the US Open with an enormous growth protruding from his elbow.

In what was reported to be a severe case of Bursitis, the former world No 1 had a lump almost the size of a tennis ball sticking out of the back of his arm.

The 46-year-old, who won the Slam himself in 1989, is at the tournament as current world No 1 Novak Djokovic's coach.

Strange things happen in this world but it doesnt get stranger than seeing Holly Griffith's bet slip. The 20-year-old from Cheshire won £1,250 (N312,00) after mistakenly betting on MK Dons to beat Manchester United 4-0.

The United fan who attends the majority of their home games, placed £2.50 (N625) on MK Dons to win by four goals at odds of 500/1. She told Sportsmail: ‘My friend had just put a bet on United to win 4-0 so I thought I’d do the same. I wasn't paying much attention though and ended up putting it on MK Dons instead.

Remarkably, Holly admitted that she had not even watched the game, and only realised she had a chance of winning the bet shortly before the match ended.

She said: ‘I wasn't actually watching the game – I’d turned it off - and realised 10 minutes before the end.

In my honest opinion Diego Costa is way older than 25 but on the other hand, Europeans and Americans have good record system hence its very difficult to manipulate your age.

Officially, the Brazilian-born striker came into the world on 7/10/1988 making him 25-years-old but, as has been noted by many, Costa’s stone face seems to suggest that he may have actually been born sometime around the moon landing.

The agent of 2013 African Coach of the Year, Stephen Keshi, has claimed that the ex international has reached an agreement with Sports Minister, Tammy Danagogo, to handle the Super Eagles next month so as to avert "a disaster".

Nigeria host Congo on September 6 in Calabar and then face South Africa four days later in Cape Town in 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Keshi's Manager, Emmanuel Ado, revealed to AfricanFootball.com that his brother has agreed to an appeal from Nigeria's government to return to his post to avert "disaster" in these matches while contract talks continue.

Talks with Keshi's agents were at an advanced stage, but have stalled no thanks to the leadership tussle that has bedeviled Nigerian football in the last four weeks.

"I want to announce that we have reached an agreement between Keshi and the minister of sports," said Ado.

"The agreement is all about Nigeria. And as a patriotic Nigerian, Keshi has no choice than to answer to the appeal of Mr. President.

"Talks will resume after the two matches, but my client and brother has agreed to take charge of the games, so as to avert any form of disaster."

Danagogo has not hidden his preference for the 52-year-old Keshi to continue as Nigeria’s coach after he guided the Super Eagles to the knockout stage of the World Cup in Brazil.

However, the general assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) today in Abuja is expected to deliberate on the coach’s future with the team.

A horrific story has broken out of North Africa this weekend as Cameroonian striker Albert Ebossé, 24, has died after being hit in the head by an object thrown from the stands during an Algerian league game.

Ebossé was playing for JS Kabylie against USM Alger on Saturday when the incident happened.

JS Kabylie lost the match 2-1, and Ebossé scored the only goal of the game for the hosts from the penalty spot.

Both clubs have since released statements on the tragic loss of life, starting with JS Kabylie:

"The Ministry of Interior and Local Government, through minister Tayeb Belaiz, has given the instruction to open an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Albert Ebossé.

The JSK player succumbed to a head injury after being hit in the head at the end of the meeting with USM Alger."

USM Alger have also released a statement of condolence:

"JS Kabylie’s Cameroonian striker has lost his life after being hit in the head by something launched from the stands.

This terrible news is saddening for football in our nation and in Cameroon and arrives like a bombshell just hours after the meeting with USM Alger which was played in Tizi Ouzou.

In these painful circumstances, USM Alger and its members send their deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and to JS Kabylie. May Albert Ebossé rest in peace."

It sucks to be Malky Mackay right now as the former Cardiff manager has been receiving backlash for his sexist, homophobic and derogatory text messages he exchanged with Ian Moody. Mackay who seemed to be a perfect gentleman in the dugout is facing a possible life ban from the game as investigation intensifies.

The drama over the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is not over with the Acting President of the Federation, Mike Umeh, still laying claims to the top position despite Aminu Maigari’s return to office yesterday.

Maigari was cleared to return to his position as the NFF president by the Minister of Sports/Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC) last Friday on the orders of world football governing body, FIFA.

But Umeh, who led some other board members to occupy the office of the NFF president early yesterday before Maigari arrived, insisted that the executive committee would not go back on their decision to impeach Maigari.

Umeh said the reinstated NFF president was acting alone and would not be allowed to function as the president of the federation because he had been impeached and dismissed from the board.

“He came to me and we exchanged greetings. We are not enemies, but exchanging pleasantries does not change our decision. We still stand on our decision at the last board meeting he chaired, where he was impeached by the board.

“Yes he has met with me on two occasions, we are not enemies, what we are doing is defending an institution.

Majority of the board members have said that Maigari has been provisionally impeached pending on the ratification by the Congress and we stand by that decision.

“We are mindful of a letter from FIFA and that is why we have gathered for a meeting to articulate our points and reply them. He can come to the NFF, it is up to him; he is on his own because a tree cannot make a forest.

“Let’s see how he can take a decision without the members; we are on the majority and there must be a quorum before he could hold any meeting.

“What we did was based on our statutes. FIFA has rules and regulations guiding football and we are representing them here. They cannot only listen to one individual. That is why we want to meet and communicate to them our own decision on their advice.”

According to Umeh, "if Maigari came to the NFF secretariat because the minister instructed him, what the minister has done by implication is interference because it was not the government that asked us to impeach him.”

“This is what he did to Sani Lulu and Ibrahim Galadima so his own cannot be an exemption. Nobody likes crisis, we have told him that if he wants a soft landing, he has to resign and he agreed with our suggestion at the stakeholders’ meeting. Of course I saw his resignation letter dated August 12 even though I do not have a copy of it here.”

On 23rd of February 2013, the footbaling world was thrown into confusion when Samuel Sodje was caught repeatedly hitting Oldham Athletic's Jose Baxter in the crotch. For no apparent reason, he continued hitting the 21 year old until the Referee dismissed him.. That was one of the most bizarre redcards in football history!

Fast-forward 10 months, what seemed as a mystery to all of us has finally seen clarity as Sodje was filmed revealing that he made a whooping £70,000 from the malicious incident.

He said: 'Do you know how much I got fined? I got fined £10k and I missed six games.'

He said he had to launch the bizarre attack as the referee had not been booking him for tackling.

In the video, recorded by an undercover reporter from the Sun on Sunday, the British born bragged that he can arrange for fellow professional footballers to get yellow cards or even sent off in return for cash.

Sodje claims he fixed it for an ex-Premier League player, who now plays in the Championship, to get a yellow card and can even organise similar such events in Premier League games – for a much greater price because of the huge fines for players at that level.

The 34 year old who originates from Warri and has gone on to make 4 caps for the Super Eagles, boasted that he can arrange for African players to influence what happens in World Cup games, claiming some players could be easily tempted to fix because they do not get paid as much to represent their national teams.

He added that it was child's play for a player to get a yellow card, as they are so common no one suspects anything is amiss and the player can continue playing afterwards.

He said: 'This guy came to meet me at my house and it was sorted. That's how easy it is – it's nothing.'



Now police are investigating after the Sun on Sunday handed over information on Sodje, gathered over a period of four months by an undercover reporter posing as a middleman for a betting syndicate based in the far east of England.

Sodje and his brother Stephen claim they can even get players sent off – an event which can cripple a team's chances in a game – for between £50,000 and £70,000.

He even said he could set up a bet an entire week before a game, while he warned the reporter not to pay one player rumoured to be involved in fixing matches because the sportsman was already under scrutiny.

Sodje spoke of a meeting a Premier League player in a Manchester hotel room, as well as at the home of another to discuss a potential fix.

Nigerian and Lille Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has finally conceded a goal in this afternoon's 1-0 defeat at Bordeaux. The 31 year old was beaten in the 27th minute of the game by Cameroon International Landry N'Guemo, after keeping ELEVEN consecutive clean-sheets. Buoyed by Arsenal's rising gap over Man United on the league table and coupled with Moye's home loss against his former team Everton, Frimpong posted some really offensive photos about the Scot on instagram stating categorically that the 50 year old doesn't know what he's doing at the Manchester club.

In my opinion, its not everybody that take up football as a profession, that should be honored with the title 'professional footballer'. A professional footballer is that person who conducts himself on and off the pitch, in that case, Frimpong has fallen foul and not worthy of being in any top club.

A press conference was held in Brazil today, in which the Creme d'la Creme of world football had a round table meeting, to allocate pots for the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 Final Draw which will be held on friday.

The draw will be organised so that there will be no more than two European teams in any group of four countries, and all the African teams will be kept apart. One country in the all European pot 4 still have to join Nigeria in Pot 2, hence we are now in danger of facing a potential group of death as there is a possibility of having defending world champions Spain, Asian champions Japan and CRISTIANO RONALDO's Portugal in the same group with us.. There's also another possibility of being grouped with FIVE time champions and hosts Brazil, CONCACAF champions USA and Robin Van Persie's Netherlands...

Homage must be paid to the Oxford University women's rugby team - because of their bravery, there might be hope for all mentally derailed people. The female team stripped down to just their rugby boots and socks for black and white photographs taken around the city to raise cash for the Mind Your Head, Oxford's mental health awareness campaign.

Captain of the team Tatiana Cuttis said it was 'mostly hilarious, really very cold, and absolutely worth it for such a good cause. It was a bit nerve-racking at first but after a minute it was good fun and great for team bonding."

'We were lucky it was a sunny day, but I was still absolutely freezing in the picture. We ended up in the river twice, it was utterly miserable.'

However we all know some hypocrites will judge the calendar as distasteful, but the 25 year old cant be bothered: 'What we're doing is celebrating strong women,' she said. 'These girls are athletics, these are their body shapes, and they should be celebrated.'

Captain of the Nigerian basketball team Olumide Oyedeji was disgraced by the Nigerian High commission in London. The 32 year old who according to his tweets is hosting a charity basketball clinic in the English capital to encourage children of African decent and take them away from gangs and knife culture, was refused entry at the Nigerian embassy to his dismay.

Olumide's cause is being supported by @bbcworld , the British Govt, the British community and the African community in diaspora BUT his own country told him to piss off and go to another country for support. Speaking to him at the gate was the special adviser to the high commissioner Adeniyi Gbadamosi: "go to another embassy 4 support, the Nigerian embassy will not support you even though you'r not asking for money".. I must say, this is utter nonsense in every respect, Olumide is not a novice in his sport.. The mortal remains of James Essien, the late father of Chelsea and Black Stars player Michael Essien, have been laid to rest.

Micheal Essien who lost his dad a couple of months ago gave his hero a befitting burial in front of a fully packed crowd which included present and past Ghanian footballers such as Abedi Pele and his wife Maha, Stephen Appiah, Augustine Ahinful amongst notable government personalities and dignitaries.

The ceremony took place over the weekend in Awutu Breku, the part of the Central Region where Essien comes from.

There's been a sad news going round, concerning French professional footballer Zahir Belounis being trapped in Qatar. The 33 ear old, who played for Qatari club - El Jaish club has been told by Qatari authorities that he cannot leave the country unless he drops a legal case against El Jaish over what he claims are two years’ unpaid wages.

Belounis, who played professionally in France, Switzerland and Malaysia, took legal action against El Jaish in February after 18 months during which the club, affiliated to the military, had failed to pay him under the terms of a five-year contract he signed in 2010.

Effectively held hostage in the Gulf nation, with his wife and two young daughters and little money left, Belounis said: “I have lost everything. Now I want to come back to my country. Give me my freedom."

This case gained such a high profile in his homeland that the French President, François Hollande, tried, unsuccessfully, to intervene on Belounis’s behalf on a state visit to Qatar in June.

Today, FIFA left the French footballer with little or no hope as the Football governing body said it cannot intervene in the case: "FIFA is unable to intervene in this matter given that Mr Belounis chose the option of contacting an ordinary court in Qatar instead of the second option available to refer to FIFA's Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC)," said FIFA in a statement.

However, Belounis has not given up just yet as he's penned an emotional letter to football legends - Zinedine Zidane and Pep Guardiola, where he pleaded the assistance of the goodwill ambassadors in fighting the greatest battle of his life.

Here's the letter;

'Mr Zidane and Mr Guardiola,

My name is Zahir Belounis and I am a French professional footballer.

After a legal dispute with my club, I am being prevented from returning home to France.

I haven't seen my family in France since June 2012 because my employer refuses to give me the exit visa needed to leave the country. This is a special document that only exists in this country and Saudi Arabia.

I am not alone in this predicament. Many workers who are to build the stadiums for the 2022 World Cup risk finding themselves in the same situation as me.

When someone suggested that I write to you, I figured that you have been great footballers but also great men so I would appeal to you to use your renown to intervene, or try to intervene, to end the impasse.

I know that you have many demands for your time but I ask you to please help me. Please understand that I am a victim.

I know that you served as ambassadors for Qatar's 2022 World Cup bid. You did this with good intentions but the reality is that if Qatar does not scrap its "exit visa" system, then there will be hundreds, maybe thousands, of people trapped here.

Before these problems I was a happy man in Doha. My two daughters were born here and I know that many Qataris are working hard to make this an unforgettable World Cup and I am sure that it will be! The Middle East deserves to host this global event because it is a unique way to bring people together to enjoy a fraternal celebration between nations. On the other hand, and in spite of all the good things that I could say about this country that has a sincere desire to do great things, I have been living a nightmare for several months because of the kafala system. This system is slowly killing me and many other people risk suffering in the same way. I am well placed to speak about it because I am completely bound up in it, so I take this opportunity to demand change for a better world …

I ask you to use your influence as football ambassadors to talk about what is happening to me and what is happening to many other young men here in Qatar. People are being kept far from their countries because of the exit visa system. This system should not exist and we need people like you, who love sport and its [good] image, to make our voices heard.

You know what it is like to have children. Imagine what I am going through every day in a house that is half-empty – because when they promised me that they would give me my exit visa, I sold my furniture – and when I see the look in my daughters' eyes, I feel ashamed, I feel disgusted with myself for inflicting such conditions on them.

I speak to you as fathers and as former footballers and I ask you, please speak up and do what you can to help me get home.

A staunch Arsenal fan in Iganga District in Eastern Uganda is searching for a new home for his family after losing his house in a bet over a game between Arsenal and Manchester United.

Before the two heavyweights faced off on Sunday in the league, Henry Dhabasani staked his two-roomed house in a bet with a one Rashid Yiga that Arsenal would win the game, the Observer – a Ugandan newspaper reports.

On his part, Yiga staked his new Toyota Premio car and his wife that Manchester United would win.

“The two put their stake in writing, with local leaders and fans witnessing the deed,” the paper further reports.

Dhabasani, married to three wives with five children, fainted at the end of the match on realizing Arsenal had lost the game 1–0.

On Monday, several Manchester United fans stormed Dhabasani’s home and threw him and his family out.
