Phones / Samsung To Brick Remaining Galaxy Note 7s by itztek: 7:49pm On Dec 10, 2016
We all know that Samsung permanently suspended the production of Galaxy Note 7 because of its explosive nature. Hence, Samsung decided now to brick all the remaining Galaxy Note 7s.

Samsung To Brick Remaining Galaxy Note 7s
Recently we have seen Samsung permanently suspended the production of Galaxy Note 7 because of its explosive nature. There are some serious problems in the factory battery anode and cathode cell contacts which cause the phones to explode. Not only that even we have also seen that Samsung also throwing up extra $100 to encourage people to turn in Samsung phones.

Samsung had also launched a replacement program, to replace the existing Note 7 to the “Safe” ones, however, the so-called “Safe” units of Galaxy Note 7 also started catching fire. Looking after so many issues, the company permanently suspended the production of Galaxy Note 7 as we told earlier.
However, there are still many people who haven’t replaced their phone and are quite happy with it. Samsung had announced a few days ago that “nearly 85% of all recalled Galaxy Note 7 devices” have been either exchanged with another Samsung handset or have been swapped out as part of the refund program.

It simply means that still, people are using the faulty Samsung Galaxy Note 7. For those users, the south Korean giant Samsung has just introduced the two-pronged plan. The first plan is to release a software update that will prevent the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 from charging beyond 60% this is to prevent overheating.

But, hold on what if I say you all that if you are still carrying around a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 then you should return it as soon as possible? Now you all might be thinking that why I am saying this again right. As the South Korean giant Samsung has recently stated that soon it will release a software update through which it will simply disable or brick all the active Galaxy Note 7.

It means that after this update Galaxy Note 7 users will not have any choice. Of course, the phone will essentially be worthless. Here’s what the South Korean giant stated:-
“Consumer safety remains our highest priority and we’ve had overwhelming participation in the U.S. Note7 Refund and Exchange Program so far, with more than 93 percent of all recalled Galaxy Note7 devices returned.
To further increase participation, a software update will be released starting on December 19th and will be distributed within 30 days. This software update will prevent U.S.
Galaxy Note7 devices from charging and will eliminate their ability to work as mobile devices. Together with our carrier partners, we will be notifying consumers through multiple touchpoints to encourage any remaining Galaxy Note7 owners to participate in the program and to take advantage of the financial incentives available.

Anyone who has not yet returned their device should immediately power it down and contact their carrier to obtain a refund or exchange, or visit our website at Samsung.com/us/note7recall for more information”.

However, Verizon is refusing to pass on the update to Note 7’s on its network. And the further statement is here.
“Verizon will not be taking part in this update because of the added risk this could pose to Galaxy Note 7 users that do not have another device to switch to.
We will not push a software upgrade that will eliminate the ability for the Note 7 to work as a mobile device in the heart of the holiday travel season. We do not want to make it impossible to contact family, first responders or medical professionals in an emergency situation”.

Phones / Twitter Introduces QR Codes by itztek: 2:56pm On Nov 17, 2016
Twitter unveiled a surprise update to its platform yesterday.
It appears that the blue bird is now getting personalized QR codes, which take people straight to your profile, when scanned.

The update was announced by Brittany Forks, a designer at Twitter, via her own account. What makes the situation a bit questionable is Brittany's explanation of the service, and we quote,“they work like snap codes”. It appears that Twitter is not ashamed to admit to borrowing from one of its social media competitors. In fact, its employees openly proclaim it during the feature's initial presentation, for some reason.

We're still not sure what was wrong with sending people your @ handle, instead of a QR code. Or just giving them a link to your profile, instead of physically handing your phone to them, so they can scan your fancy, colorful barcode. But, even if no one uses it, it won't hurt the platform, right?
The QR codes are rolling out as we speak and they should make their way to all user profiles soon. If you already have the feature enabled for your account, you can find your personalized QR code by going to your profile, clicking the gear icon and looking for the QR code option.

Phones / Google Allo Updated To Version 3.0, Introduces Chat Themes, Still No SMS Support by itztek: 2:36pm On Nov 17, 2016
Following the underwhelming 2.0 update, Google's ill-conceived messaging app Allo got another update bumping its version number another whole step up, to 3.0, and introducing features such as chat themes, emoji suggestions, and a new “Fantastic Beasts”-themed sticker pack. Can you guess what this update doesn't add to Allo? That's right – there is still no SMS support.

Chat themes are a cool distraction that allows you to visually spice up your conversations with colorful backgrounds. Themes can be enabled and changed individually for each conversation. To do so, open a chat thread with one of your contacts, tap on their profile picture in the top right corner of the screen, select “Chat details”, scroll down to the bottom of the menu, and you'll see a “Change chat theme” option. Note, however, that this feature cannot be used in conjunction with the “Monochrome” mode introduced in Allo 2.0.

There's also a new “Smart Smiley” emoji suggestion feature that can be accessed by tapping the new emoji icon next to the “Send” button in the text box for each conversation. Doing so will yield a list of suggested items based on your most frequently used smileys and stickers, as well as on the content of your current message.
Allo 3.0 adds a new sticker pack to the mix, featuring characters from J. K. Rowling's screenwriting debut, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” There's not much else we can say about it – it's a collection of well-made stickers.

The update should be rolling out to you via the Google Play Store in the following days.
