Gunmen suspected to be terrorists on Monday morning attacked travellers on the busy Isanlu–Isin–Omu Aran road in Kwara state, kidnapping at least four persons. TRIBUNE Online gathered that the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, when armed men ambushed motorists along the highway, said to be a key route linking communities in the Kwara South district to Ilorin, the state capital.
Eyewitness account revealed that the attackers operated freely on the road, forcing vehicles to stop before whisking the passengers to an unknown location. “Bandits are still heavily present in the area and are actively targeting travellers heading towards Ilorin”, the source said. No fewer than 30 persons, including women, were killed on Saturday when bandits attacked Kasuwan Daji market in Demo community, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The attackers also carted away foodstuffs and other valuables worth millions of naira before setting the market ablaze.
Daily Trust gathered that the terrorists stormed the community around 4 pm on Saturday and operated until the early hours of Sunday.
An unspecified number of people were also reportedly kidnapped during the attack.
A resident of the area, who spoke to Daily Trust on the telephone, said more than 50 people were tied and killed by the terrorists, who operated without resistance.
The attackers were said to have emerged from the National Park in Borgu LGA and launched the attack in broad daylight.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said over 30 people lost their lives, while several others were kidnapped.
He said: “On 03/01/2026 at about 9 pm, information received revealed that at about 4:30 pm of the same date, suspected bandits from the National Park forest along Kabe District invaded Kasuwan-Daji, located at Demo Village via Kabe, and burnt the market, looted shops, and carted away food items.
“On 04/01/2026 at about 8 am, a report indicated that a joint security team visited the scene, and over 30 victims lost their lives during the attack. Some persons were also kidnapped.
