EASTERN OBOLO CHAIRMAN FLAGS OFF ₦31.5M EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME ...Says He’s a Proud Beneficiary of Governor Umo Eno’s Transformational Leadership In a bold step to promote economic self-reliance and youth inclusion, the Executive Chairman of Eastern Obolo Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Samuel Nteijah has launched a ₦31.55 million empowerment scheme aimed at equipping young people and women with relevant skills and financial support. The initiative, tagged Unifier First Batch Skills Acquisition and Business Grant Scheme, was officially flagged off on Monday, June 23, and will directly benefit 60 youths and 10 women entrepreneurs drawn from the ten wards of Eastern Obolo. Addressing a cheering crowd of beneficiaries, Hon. Nteogwuija expressed deep appreciation to Governor Umo Eno, attributing the success of the scheme to the Governor’s enabling leadership and inclusive policies. “I consider myself a great beneficiary of His Excellency’s transformational vision. Governor Umo Eno has not only supported local governments but given us the autonomy to lead with impact. This empowerment drive is a direct outcome of that freedom and trust.” Nteogwuija stated. He explained that the programme was born out of his early observation of a growing manpower deficit in the oil-rich local government, particularly in specialized technical areas. Determined to bridge that gap, the chairman reiterated his commitment to long-term empowerment over token gestures. “When I took office seven months ago, I made a promise to move beyond palliative handouts. Today, we are fulfilling that promise by training young people in practical, high-demand fields truck and forklift operation, crane and bulldozer handling, catering, security, and more,” he announced. In a show of transparency and dedication, Nteogwuija disclosed that the ₦31.55 million used to fund the initiative was not sourced from any government subvention or donor agency, but rather through months of personal sacrifice and disciplined resource management. “This is not from any windfall. It’s the product of prudent savings and a deep-seated passion to serve. Every naira committed to this programme was intentionally set aside for this purpose,” he said. The empowerment scheme also includes direct business grants for 10 women to boost their small-scale enterprises, further reflecting the chairman’s commitment to inclusive development. The event drew widespread praise from stakeholders, including religious leaders and traditional rulers who commended the initiative as a symbol of grassroots progress. As more batches of beneficiaries are expected in the coming months, the people of Eastern Obolo are beginning to witness firsthand the ripple effect of Governor Umo Eno’s leadership, one that empowers Council Chairmen to take charge and build communities from the inside out.

PRESS STATEMENT Engr. Etido Inyang Remains Loyal, Committed to Gov. Umo Eno's Government and Political Journey The attention of Engr. Etido Inyang has been drawn to a news story today, 10th June, 2025, on the cover page of "The Eyes", an Uyo based local newspaper. The content of the story questions the loyalty of Engr. Inyang following the movement of Governor Umo Eno from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). First, we emphatically state that the supposed story is terrible guess work from the newspaper. And guess work has no place in journalism. Engr. Inyang is always reachable. There are also several communication channels through which enquiry about him can be made, and information about his office — accessed. Those who run the paper were glaringly too excited in mischief to explore these options. Engr. Etido Inyang is still the Chairman, Board of Directors, Ibom Power Company. He remains a loyal appointee of Government and committed lieutenant of Governor Umo Eno. It is important to note that the stakeholders' consultation meetings for Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, prior to the Governor's official movement to the APC, held at the residence of Engr. Inyang. During these meetings, a consensus for collective political alignment behind the Governor was reached. He was part of this decision. In that meeting, he decamped with His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno. It should also be noted that he was present at the Banquet Hall, Government House to register his solidarity, on June 6, 2025, when the Governor officially announced his defection. Just yesterday, June 9, 2025, Ikot Ekpene stakeholders again held a meeting where other stakeholders at the wards level were briefed on the new development. Again, as one of the leaders, he was part of yesterday's meeting and briefing. Following these clarifications, Ikot Ekpene people and the public should disregard the news story for what it is an unskilled art of conjecture. Signed: Engr. Etido Inyang's Media Office 10-06-2025

2027: Umo Eno Will Fly APC Flag and Win by Landslide - Nsima Ekere By Atuekong Paul Bassey Former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State and former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Obong Nsima Ekere, has confidently projected that Governor Umo Eno will contest the 2027 governorship election under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and secure a landslide victory. Speaking during a special interview on Arise TV broadcast from Uyo, the state capital, Ekere lauded Governor Eno’s widespread grassroots consultations and increasing popularity across the state. “Governor Eno has spent months engaging every segment of Akwa Ibom society traditional rulers, religious leaders, elders, youth, and women,” Ekere stated. “The people of Akwa Ibom have shifted their political allegiance, and they now see the APC as the party of hope. Pastor Umo Eno will fly the APC flag in 2027, and he will win by a landslide.” Ekere, who was the APC’s gubernatorial candidate in 2019, emphasized that Governor Eno’s alignment with the APC reflects a broader political realignment driven by the people, rather than a personal defection. “This is not just a defection,” he clarified. “Akwa Ibom State is aligning with the ruling party. We are united in this movement. The enthusiasm surrounding Governor Eno’s transition is palpable across the state.” Addressing concerns about the implications for Nigeria’s multiparty democracy, Ekere dismissed any fears of a drift toward a one-party system, citing historical political trends. “Nigeria is not becoming a one-party state,” he said. “There are ongoing discussions about coalitions forming to challenge the APC in 2027. Let’s not forget when the PDP had nearly 30 governors, no one declared the country a one-party state then. There's no need to overdramatize the current political shifts.” Ekere’s remarks have already sparked significant political debate within and beyond Akwa Ibom, as the 2027 election season begins to take shape.

AKWA IBOM DEMOCRATIC VANGUARD PRESS RELEASE RE: OFFIONG AQUA’S MALICIOUS OUTBURST AGAINST GOVERNOR UMO ENO – A RECKLESS ACT OF ATTENTION-SEEKING AND SELF-DESTRUCTION The Akwa Ibom Democratic Vanguard condemns in strong terms the recent viral video by one Prof. Offiong Aqua, in which he launched a series of reckless, defamatory, and unfounded attacks on the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, as well as other respected national figures including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Prof. Aqua’s utterances are not only irresponsible, they are deeply malicious and reveal a disturbing pattern of desperation. His attempt to malign Governor Umo Eno’s character and private life is completely unacceptable and speaks volumes about his own moral bankruptcy. No serious-minded academic or public commentator stoops that low unless driven by envy, personal bitterness, or failed ambition. It is important to remind the public that the same Offiong Aqua was a beneficiary of Senator Godswill Akpabio’s administration, having received a Healthcare Audit and Inventory contract in 2010. That contract ended in a woeful failure, yielding nothing but a poorly done PowerPoint presentation that was of no use to the State. To now turn around and insult the Senate President, who once offered him a chance to prove himself, is the height of ingratitude and opportunism. Equally disturbing is Prof. Aqua’s attempt to ridicule and question President Bola Tinubu’s appointment decisions. One wonders what authority or insight he believes he has to dictate to the President of the Federal Republic. If Prof. Aqua is desperate for federal appointment, especially now that his shady healthcare exploits have come under scrutiny, he should use the front door, not resort to online blackmail. His tantrums about possible political realignments also miss the mark. If Governor Umo Eno, like many others before him, chooses to exercise his political rights, including changing party platforms, it remains within the bounds of democracy. He would not be the first to do so. Let it be clearly stated that political movement is a legitimate part of Nigeria’s political culture. Examples abound: Asiwaju Bola Tinubu transitioned from SDP to AD and later formed the APC. Atiku Abubakar has moved across PDP, ACN, APC, and back to PDP. Bukola Saraki, Aminu Tambuwal, Samuel Ortom, David Umahi, Ben Ayade, Bello Matawalle and Godswill Akpabio have all exercised their political freedom to move across party lines. Such decisions are not treason, they are political choices. Governor Umo Eno, more than any other leader in recent history, has run the most inclusive government since the creation of Akwa Ibom State. Under his leadership, the unity of the State has been strengthened, with political rancour and bickering reduced to its barest minimum. Today, Akwa Ibom people are speaking with one voice across party lines, united in peace and shared purpose. This stability and cohesion are among the Governor’s greatest legacies—one that no amount of propaganda or blackmail can undo. As for Prof. Aqua’s own record, it is not difficult to trace. He has moved from one African country to another, allegedly peddling healthcare grant proposals and academic partnerships under the guise of research, many of which ended in questions, controversies, and unfulfilled outcomes. His so-called academic exploits, including partnerships with NYU and Ghana’s Ministry of Health, are marred by credible allegations of misuse of funds and false representation. We may not yet know whose script Prof. Offiong Aqua is acting, but it is clear that his motives are unholy and his methods are destructive. He has turned himself into a political undertaker looking for relevance and visibility in the most dishonourable way. Let it be known that the people of Akwa Ibom are watching. They know who is working and who is wailing. Governor Umo Eno remains focused on delivering his mandate under the ARISE Agenda and will not be distracted by the noise of a disgraced contractor or a failed academic entrepreneur. This rejoinder serves as both a clarification and a warning. Enough of the falsehood. Enough of the slander. Enough of the self-promotion at the expense of public servants who are working tirelessly to uplift the lives of our people. Signed: Otuekong Effiong Bassey President Akwa Ibom Democratic Vanguard 31/05/2025

By Henshaw NYONG & Atuekong Paul Bassey President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has concluded a three-day empowerment and project commissioning tour across Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, with massive infrastructure rollout in Abak, Ikot Ekpene and Essien Udim Local Government Areas. The event, which began on Friday, May 16 and ended on Sunday, May 18, featured the inauguration of roads, schools, markets, police stations, ICT centres, health facilities and town halls, all facilitated by the Senate President as part of his constituency development programme. In Abak Local Government Area, Akpabio commissioned the newly constructed Adaha Ayam Road and Usung Idim Road in Ibagwa, a new block of classrooms at Secondary Commercial School, Otoro, Abak, an ICT centre at Community Comprehensive Secondary School, Ediene, a police station, an ultra-modern market at Urua Adet Obo, and an intensive care unit at Mercy Hospital. The Executive Chairman of Abak Local Government, Hon. Ime Charles, who spoke during the events, said the projects had brought a new lease of life to the area, describing Akpabio as a leader who still prioritises the grassroots despite his high office. In Ikot Ekpene, the Senate President moved to inaugurate another set of projects which included a one-storey 12-classroom block at State College, the Abiakpo Water Works Road, Chrisben Road, Atan Housing Estate Road, Ntak Ikot Ubo Road, and the Ikot Obiokpon-Umuahia Road, all measuring 500 metres each. He also commissioned an ICT centre at Methodist Central School and another at State Secondary Commercial School, Okop Eto, as well as an ultra-modern market, with residents pouring into the streets in appreciation. The tour came to a close in Essien Udim, Akpabio’s home local government, where the Nation's number 3 citizen unveiled a series of people-centred projects. They included an ultra-modern market at Ukana Nsasak, new classroom blocks at Comprehensive Secondary School, Ikpe Annang and Ukana East Community Secondary School, a town hall at Ikpe Mbiabong, another at Ikot Essien, and yet another at Afaha Ikot Ebak. Others were a police station at Nto Nsek, health centres at Ikpe Annang, Ikot Idem in Odoro Ikot 1, and in Nto, Odoro Ikot 2. He also commissioned roads in Ikot Akpan Usung, Afaha-Urua Akpan Eshiet, Akpan Essiet-Ikot Offiong, Ikpe Oniong-Ono, Adiasim Utu Ikot Ukpong, Afaha Ikot Ebak and Urua Obo, Urua Atim Road in Ukana West II. The ICT centre at Independent High School, Ukana, was also opened for use. Executive Chairman of Essien Udim Local Government, Hon. Ntiedo Usoro, said the projects had not only changed the face of the area but had renewed the people’s trust in representative democracy. He commended Akpabio for not abandoning his senatorial district despite his national responsibilities. Our Correspondents gathered that the tour marked the second phase of Akpabio’s constituency empowerment programme and followed similar interventions carried out earlier in the year. Apart from infrastructure, our medium observed that the empowerment also targeted traders, women, artisans and farmers, who went home with various support items to improve their livelihoods. Party leaders, traditional rulers, elders, women and youth took turns to eulogize the Senate President for keeping faith with his campaign promises. Many respondents described the projects as a reflection of Akpabio’s deep connection with his people, noting that his rise to the Senate presidency has not created any distance from the district he once governed. #ISCN

Akwa Ibom Son, Jason Utitofon Sets to Become First Nigerian-Born Mayor of the Borough, UK Councillor Jason Utitofon Jackson, the current Deputy Mayor of Islington, is poised to make history as the first Nigerian-born Mayor of the borough since the office was established in 1900. Born in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, Cllr Jackson moved to the United Kingdom as a teenager and has since built an impressive record of public service, community leadership, and social impact. He began his early education in Nigeria, attending primary school and later Holy Family College (HOFACO) in Abak, Akwa Ibom State, before relocating to the UK to continue his studies. A naturally gifted speaker, he gained national recognition in Nigeria as the country’s youngest preacher at the age of six. His deep Christian faith, instilled from childhood, continues to guide his values and leadership style. Elected as a councillor in 2022, he quickly rose through the ranks and was appointed Chair of Islington’s Homes and Communities Committee in 2023. In this role, he led ground-breaking work in housing equity, community wellbeing, and inclusive governance. One of his most notable achievements was initiating a £1.6 million mental health programme specifically for young Black men, a nationally recognised and award-nominated initiative that set a new benchmark for culturally responsive services in the UK. In just three years, Cllr Jackson has gone from first-time councillor to the borough’s highest civic office, a clear testament to his integrity, vision, and strong grassroots connection to the community. After arriving in the UK, he furthered his education and attended London Metropolitan University, where he was elected President of the Students' Union. There, he championed racial equity, student advocacy, and social justice not just in the UK, but also across the African continent. This period laid the foundation for what has become a lifelong dedication to advocacy and empowerment. Cllr Jackson currently serves as co-founder of The Black Policy Institute (TBPI), a national think tank focused on elevating Black British and African perspectives in public policy, civic participation, and community development. His work bridges personal experience with strategic insight giving voice to communities often excluded from key decision-making processes. He holds a degree in Business Law and Media Studies, as well as a Master’s in Big Data in Culture and Society from King’s College London. In addition to his public service, he is a business consultant and social entrepreneur with interests spanning real estate, agriculture, education, and ethical AI leveraging technology for social good and development. Cllr Jackson is happily married and a proud father of three sons, often describing his family as his greatest motivation. "My family is my anchor," he said. "My sons remind me daily why I must lead with faith, purpose, and a sense of responsibility to uplift others. Becoming Islington’s first Nigerian-born Mayor is more than a personal honour — it is a symbol of what is possible when one’s heritage inspires service, and leadership reflects the community it represents." As Mayor, Cllr Jackson plans to focus on issues that reflect his life’s journey: social equity, youth empowerment, mental health, and inclusive innovation. His leadership will aim to increase access, foster representation, and ensure that no one is left behind in the development process. His inauguration on 15 May 2025 will not only be a significant moment for the borough of Islington but also a proud milestone for Nigerians and Africans in the diaspora — proving that leadership can be principled, identity-driven, and accessible to all.

REVEALED! ••• How Councillors allegedly pocketed N2m each from same budget they disowned A fresh twist has emerged in the plot to remove the Chairman of Ikono Local Government, Hon. Otobong Essien, as findings by our paper reveal that the real drama rocking the Council is less about accountability and more about political greed, personal interests, and a festering power struggle. While a petition currently before the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly accuses the Council Boss of financial recklessness and abuse of office, multiple sources within the Council and the legislative arm point to a deeper, more calculated move by councillors angered over her refusal to “share money” with them, despite the numerous projects executed across the LGA. The tipping point, insiders say, was the passage of the 2025 budget. According to findings, the Clerk of the Council forwarded the budget document to the Chairman for assent after what appeared to be a legislative endorsement. Trusting the process, the Chairman signed it, only for the councillors to later claim they never approved it. But our paper can confirm that each councillor allegedly received a sum of N2 million strictly as furniture allowance, aside from additional sums earmarked for imprest and security; all of which were captured in the same budget they now claim never passed through the House. The contradiction has, however, raised eyebrows across the political space of Ikono and the State at large, prompting observers to ask why anyone would accept funds from a budget they publicly disown. A senior civil servant who did not want her name mentioned because she is not the official spokesperson of the Council described the situation as nothing short of political blackmail. She said: “The Clerk conveyed the budget to the Chairman. She acted based on that communication, which, in administration, is presumed regular. If they’re faulting the process now, why is no one holding the Clerk accountable? Or is the Clerk suddenly invisible?” Meanwhile, legal experts accentuate that the law favours the Chairman in this scenario. The Clerk is the administrative channel between the legislature and executive. Any communication from that office is presumed valid unless proven otherwise. According to an Uyo-based constitutional lawyer, Abasiono Idem Esq., “It is not legally right to punish the Chairman for assenting to a budget forwarded through the right channel.” What has become clear, according to our checks, is that the core grievance lies in what councillors describe in private as the Chairman’s “stinginess.” Her choice to channel resources into capital projects rather than settling a few political interests has reportedly earned her the silent wrath of those who feel entitled to a share of the Council’s allocation. Despite the growing tension, sources say Hon. Essien remains focused on her job, quietly steering development across wards and avoiding media drama. But within the Assembly, a move is afoot. A legislative probe is underway, and there are whispers of an impeachment motion already gathering signatures. However, political watchers are quick to point out the contradictions. According to Pastor Aniekan Akpan, a cleric, philanthropist and stakeholder of the PDP in Ibiaku Ntok Okpo; “You say the budget was illegal but spent money from it. That’s double-speak. That’s moral fraud. You cannot eat from the pot and then kick it down because you weren’t served first.” As the countdown to the timeline set by the State House of Assembly continues, many are watching not just to see the outcome of the probe, but to measure how far political players will go to punish a Chairman whose only crime, as it appears, may be her decision to work for the entire people of Ikono, rather than a few politicians. #ISCN

With the group having its own finances, it can make independent decisions on issues that affect their communities, the local government area, state, and country in general, she submitted. She urged them to always align their ambitions and dreams with the plans of God. She also reminded them of the importance of building their home and maintaining family values, while pursuing communal development. "As women, we have to be the covering of our family, and we can do this through every day intercessory prayers". The former commissioner advised members of the forum to shun divisive tendencies and exist in love and forgiveness as these are the sure ways to win together. She thanked the group for identifying with her efforts, and for their belief in her. She promised to continue to support women and empower them sustainably. •••Makes Case for Akwa Ibom as Commission’s Headquarters Philanthropist, politician, and Managing Director/CEO of Abaringo Nigeria Limited, Dr. Abasiono Okon, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing into law the bill establishing the South-South Development Commission (SSDC). Speaking with reporters from his Abuja base, the Ikono-born businessman described the move as a "good omen and a welcome development," noting that it would ensure balanced development across the region. The former House of Assembly aspirant for Ikono State Constituency particularly commended Senate President Godswill Akpabio for his strategic role in making the SSDC a reality, stating that Akpabio’s tenure has ushered in a new era of legislative-executive harmony that is yielding tangible benefits for all parts of the country. Dr. Okon emphasized that with the SSDC now in place, all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria have dedicated development agencies to address their regional infrastructural and economic challenges. He dismissed concerns raised by some quarters over the existence of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), arguing that both interventionist bodies have distinct mandates. "The South-South region is the economic heartbeat of the nation, producing the oil wealth that sustains Nigeria. There is nothing wrong with having both SSDC and NDDC working in synergy to fast-track development. While the NDDC covers nine states, SSDC is specifically for the six South-South states, ensuring a more focused approach to development," he said. Addressing the debate over the location of the SSDC headquarters, Dr. Okon strongly advocated for Akwa Ibom State. According to him, beyond political considerations, Akwa Ibom stands out as the most suitable host state due to its security stability, clean environment, and infrastructural readiness. "In all fairness, Rivers State already hosts the NDDC headquarters. Akwa Ibom, with its zero-security concerns, serene environment, and excellent infrastructure, is the most strategic and deserving choice for the SSDC headquarters," he submitted. Meanwhile, the signing of the SSDC Bill by President Tinubu has been widely applauded across the South-South, with many stakeholders optimistic that the commission will drive rapid infrastructural and human capital development in the region.

Those who didn't clap when Uwemedimo Nwoko, SAN handed over as the 5th International President of Ati Annang Foundation on Saturday , 15th March, 2025 are perhaps those who didn't know the gravity and import of a harmonised orthography to a people or tribe. Luckily, the majority of the over one thousand participants at the handing over ceremony understood that the administration of the 5th had killed a giant elephant, so the ovation that day was deafening. Even those who hitherto didn't know the history recorded by the accomplishment of the Nwoko led EXCO, got a free lecture from the goodwill messages of dignitaries like Governor Umo Eno who was the Special Guest of Honour on the occasion. "You have saved the Anaañ language from extinction", says Governor Umo Bassey Eno who was represented on the occasion by his deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi. Remarks by Senator Eyakenyi was a commendation to the formal presentation of the Harmonised Orthography of Anaañ language made possible by the Uwemedimo Nwoko Presidency of Ati Annang, a leading Sociocultural group in the Annang nation. In addition to the presentation of the Harmonised Orthography, the Nwoko led team also presented both the curriculum and the teacher's guide for the teaching of Anaañ language in schools which were the core compositions of the Annang Language Development Projects (ALDP). With the Completion of the Annang Language Development Projects by Nwoko's presidency of Ati Annang, the Annang nation has fulfilled all the requirements to grow from being a dialect to be recognised as one of the recognised languages spoken in Nigeria. Apart from now being a recognised language in Nigeria, the completion of the Annang Language Development Projects by the Nwoko led administration will now make it possible for Anaañ language to be taught in schools, thereby safeguarding and protecting the language from going into oblivion, a feat that got the Itai Afe Annang V, Obong Blaise Awakama dancing. "Motanda doesn't dance but he danced on the day Namondo was found ", said Obong Blaise Awakama as he started dancing. The revered monarch was referencing the classic MOTANDA OYOM NAMONDA to say that even when he is not known to be a dancer, that the presentation of the Harmonised Orthography called for dancing. Obong Blaise Awakama thanked Uwemedimo Nwoko, SAN for delivering on the project which was championed by Afe Anaañ, the highest Sociocultural body in the Annang nation. 24th June, 2017 was the day Afe Anaañ handed over the Annang Language Development Project to Ati Annang Foundation. In July, 2017, a four-man team comprising, Dr Arnold Udoaka, Dr Itoro Michael, Dr Gloria Inyang and Barr. Aniedi Akpabio set the ball rolling by meeting the officials of the Nigeria Educational and Research Development Council (NERDC), the body responsible for the standardisation and regulation of languages in Nigeria. That meeting gave birth to series of consultations at different levels and high-powered workshops by NERDC, the regulatory Agency for Language Development and Curriculum for Basic and Senior Secondary Education. Since 2017, unquantifiable work has been committed to the realisation of the Annang Language Development Projects but the Nwoko led Ati Annang made it the priority of their administration when it came on board in February, 2022, ensuring that the project was completed within the lifespan of the tenure which ended on the 15th of March. Speaking on behalf of the Nigeria Educational and Research Development Council (NERDC), Dr. Chima Egbujuo recalled how Mr Nwoko called him over the project shortly after he resumed office as the President of Ati Annang in 2022. "This president is a very humble man. I didn't even know that I was speaking to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria when he first called me to solicit for my support towards the realisation of the Harmonised Orthography for Anaañ language. This project would never have been possible without his commitment and hardwork". All the speakers on the occasion, especially the Chairman of the Occasion, Barr. Paul Usoro, SAN and the Commissioner for Education of Akwa Ibom State, Prof. Ubong Umoh commended Barr. Nwoko for the realisation of the Annang Language Development Project. "A language grows from culture to civilization when it becomes exportable and the only way a language can be exportable is when it has been developed enough to be taught in schools. With this harmonised orthography and curriculum, Anaañ language will not only be taught in schools in Akwa Ibom State, it can also be taught all over the world. As commissioner for education, I will give it all the support required for the teaching of Anaañ language to begin in the next academic year", the education commissioner vowed. Other education stakeholders such as DIG Udom Ekpoudom who is the proprietor of Tower of Ivory Schools and Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien who is the proprietor of Ritman Schools, pledged to include Anaañ language as one of the subjects to be taught in their schools. They commended Barr. Nwoko for working towards to the the realisation of the project. In his speech, Barr. Nwoko took a trip down memory lane to highlight some efforts made towards the realisation of the Harmonised Orthography while commending the members of the project committee, members of his EXCO, Stakeholders of Ati Annang and the leaders of Annang nation. " On the 23rd April, 2024, I was privileged to head a high-powered delegation of Ati Annang Foundation to the NERDC at Abuja...The resolution at that meeting galvanized the project at top speed and led to the approval and printing of the Harmonised Orthography. This was followed by a workshop organised by the NERDC and Ati Annang Foundation in Uyo. The products of that Workshop were the approval of the Curriculum and the Teachers Guide. That is why we have this historic ceremony today". For their supportive roles, Barr. Nwoko thanked the leadership of NERDC, the project committee led by Prof. Imelda Udoh, his predecessor, Rt. Hon. Udo Kierian ,BOT Chairman of Ati Annang, Sir Emem Akpabio and the State Chairman of the PDP, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan. Others who got Mr Nwoko's commendation were, Emmanuel Enoidem, SAN, Engr. Etido Inyang, Sir Monday Ebong Uko, Hon. Utibe Nwoko, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom, Hon. Mrs Ime Charles, Hon. Gideon Uwah, Hon. Uyo Ukpana, Hon. Ntiedo Udosen, Hon. Monday Festus and Hon. Simon Dominic.

By Henshaw NYONG I recently found myself in a conversation about a gentleman I only knew from a distance. The people in that discussion spoke highly of him; how much he is loved, how deeply respected he is, and how he has done so much without making noise about it. Normally, I don’t get easily swayed by such praises. Not because I am skeptical, but because I believe true greatness should stand the test of independent scrutiny. However, I have a friend, Atuekong Paul Bassey, who always tells me that I am positively stubborn. His reason? I don’t just go with the flow. I don’t jump on bandwagons. I don’t let sentiments dictate my judgment. Instead, I take my time, do my research, and form my own conclusions. And that is exactly what I decided to do - dig deeper and find out for myself what many people probably don’t know about Senator Aniekan Etim Bassey, who was sworn into the 10th Senate in June 2023 to represent Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District. In that conversation I stumbled upon, one question kept coming up: What has he really done since he went to the National Assembly? Before putting this piece together, I had to understand the reality of the legislature. I realized that some lawmakers have been in the Senate for five, four, three, or two terms. These are the ranking Senators; the first-choice names for major positions and committee chairmanships. Meanwhile, first-time Senators are often viewed like the youngest child in a typical Nigerian home. When something is being shared, the firstborn takes first, the second follows, and the youngest either waits or gets forgotten. For a first-time Senator, breaking through that system is not a walk in the park. You have to fight for relevance, work twice as hard, and push through the barriers of seniority. But has that stopped Senator Aniekan Bassey? I had to do my own findings, talk to people who would rather not be quoted, visit places, and ensure that whatever I put out was factual. And what I discovered? Quite revealing. I found out that even before becoming a Senator, Aniekan Bassey was already changing lives through his RHAB-YESS Foundation - the Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey Youth Entrepreneurship Support Scheme. Through this initiative, he lifted young people out of poverty, offering grants ranging from ₦200,000 to ₦1 million to support their businesses. Some politicians in our state thrive on past glory, but he isn’t one of them. As a strong disciple of the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D., his projects and programmes are in line with the ARISE Agenda. I found out that within his first three months in office, he had furnished at least one school per Local Government in the nine LGAs (Uyo, Nsit Ubium, Uruan, Ibiono Ibom, Itu, Etinan, Ibesikpo Asutan, Nsit Ibom and Nsit Atai) of his district with modern classroom tables, chairs, books, school bags, and at least five computer sets per school. I discovered that roads had been tarred and fitted with streetlights in several communities across the senatorial district. I spoke with some people who confirmed that sound and clean cars had been donated to constituents to aid their movement. I verified that at least one health centre per Local Government was set to receive essential drugs and supplements, because to him, the health of the people is non-negotiable. I traced details of an ₦800 million RHAB-YESS Mega Empowerment between August and December 2024, which has provided quarterly training for beneficiaries in all nine LGAs. Each beneficiary received between ₦200,000 and ₦500,000 to support their businesses. I confirmed that over 32 people have already gained Federal employment through his facilitation. I visited some locations and saw firsthand the solar-powered streetlights installed in Akpan Etuk Street, Udosen Uko Street, Itiam Etuk Ekpat by Nesman Filling Station, a greater part of Shelter Afrique, Uyo Club, Osongama, and several other locations across the Senatorial District. I found out that 500 youths have been trained and empowered with digital skills. Free medical outreaches have been carried out across the district. Over 10,000 educational kits have been donated to schools in all nine LGAs. More than 100 desktop and laptop computers have been distributed to schools. 100 rural women have been empowered with agro-inputs. 100 businesses have received development grants. Community roads have been constructed. Boreholes have been provided in rural areas and communities. 2,000 JAMB forms have been given already to students. Overseas scholarships have been awarded to brilliant but indigent students. However, unlike some politicians who thrive on media noise, Senator Bassey allows his work to speak for him. He doesn’t crave attention or make a fuss about his achievements. Perhaps that’s why many don’t even realize the weight of what he has done within a short time in office. But as someone who, according to my friend Atuekong, doesn’t follow bandwagons, I had to dig deep to uncover these facts. And the more I searched, the clearer it became - Senator Aniekan Bassey, Ph.D, isn’t just another name in the Senate; he is a force and is shaping the reality of representation. But this is just the beginning. In the next part, we’ll look beyond his direct interventions and focus on his core legislative responsibilities - bills, motions, and advocacy shaping national policies. Because if you think you already know everything about Senator Aniekan Bassey, then you probably don’t know enough...!

The Member representing Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Uduak Odudoh, has once again facilitated federal civil service appointments for his constituents. The latest appointments, which add to his series of interventions, have been described as yet another step in his relentless effort to secure opportunities for the people of his constituency beyond legislative duties. At a breakfast meeting with the newly appointed federal civil servants at his residence, Hon. Odudoh urged them to uphold the renowned diligence and commitment of their people, emphasizing the need for excellence in their respective roles. The Ikot Abasi born National Assemblyman, who reiterated his commitment to securing more opportunities for his constituents, emphasized that true representation is about improving lives, not just making laws. “This is my way of making sure my people are not left behind in federal employment. Representation is not just about making laws; it is about creating opportunities that improve lives. By God’s grace, I will continue to do my best for as many as possible. Just take your work seriously, and I can assure all of you that you'll succeed,” he said. Meanwhile, the excited beneficiaries; Dr. Stephen Udoka and Mrs. Aniema Ikot could not hide their joy as they showered prayers on Hon. Odudoh, describing his intervention as a lifeline that had not only secured their future but also brought hope to their families.

Why We Oppose College of Education’s Conversion to University – COEASU The College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Afaha Nsit Chapter, has explained the reasons behind its opposition to the conversion of Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, into a University of Education. In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Brain E. Sunday, on Monday, the union clarified that it is not against the upgrade but insists on being part of the process to safeguard the welfare of its members. The statement noted that COEASU had, on February 5, 2025, written to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, requesting that the bill for the conversion be put on hold to allow academic staff to make necessary contributions. “It is unfortunate that our letter has been misinterpreted, leading to various speculations and reactions. For clarity, we are not against the proposed conversion. However, as key stakeholders, we must be allowed to make inputs to ensure that our rights, welfare, and entitlements are well protected,” the union stated. COEASU maintained that while the transition to a university is a welcome development, the interests of lecturers and other staff must not be sidelined in the process.

By Otobong Sampson A fractious Europe before his emergence as Minister-President of Prussia and subsequently, as first Chancellor of the German Empire had gone for long without an influential negotiator in its diplomatic sphere — one who could also compel peace upon the Continent. Peace had eluded the continent and its leaders at the time could not figure a solution to the incessant strife. For two decades, Otto von Bismarck, as German Chancellor, held together a continent which was riddled with unending conflicts and bitter wars. He successfully secured and preserve the peace of Europe in those years. The most prominent of his works without a doubt was the unification of Germany, bringing together the over 300 disparate German states into a single whole. This force of unity gave Germany a new status in Europe. Equally significant, was his preservation of peace in the continent for twenty years. So important were Bismarck's works in Europe that there is a fertile perspective that exist till now that were he to be alive by 1914, the war that began in Europe and assumed a global dimension would never have happened. Governor Umo Eno has emerged as the modern day Bismarck, playing the roles of a conciliator and peacemaker in Akwa Ibom State. So adroit is he that the lines of fiery partisanship, hitherto deep and visible, have been blurred almost into non existence. Where it exist, it is because brothers have to play politics. Across Nigeria today, Pastor Eno stands out shiningly as the totem of peace in a society that has often found itself soaked in waters of political bitterness and buried in a race of tribal supremacy. As Governor, he has mended the cracks in brotherhood and neatly grouting whatever crevices are left. He is welding back the bond of oneness. His every action and decision mirrors a man who seeks peace for all — and with all. Peace sustains existing developments. Peace drives new developments. In acknowledgment of this and other of his efforts, President Bola Tinubu last year in his Democracy Day Speech in Abuja gave him a generous mention and praised his efforts in governance and leadership. Senate President Akpabio has several times described the governor as a man of peace who continually seeks peace. In one such remark, he had said Governor Eno has a spirit of unity, "an apostle and disciple of peace". Atuekong Don Etiebet, elder statesman and national chieftain of the All Progressive Congress recently visited Oruk Anam Council to inspect the first 100 days strides of the Council chairman — an elected official of the Peoples Democratic Party. Other prominent figures and subalterns of the All Progressive Congress have commended and identified with the non-discriminatory, inclusive and unity-building governance model of the Governor. During the yuletide, the Akwa Ibom chapter of the APC received Christmas package from Governor Eno. The Senate President, commending the genuine spirit of unity shown by the governor, made a reciprocal gesture days later to Akwa Ibom PDP. In the new Akwa being constructed by Governor Eno, members of the PDP and supporters of his government can publicly identify with their brothers who belong to another party in their moment of glory and time of despair without fear of blacklisting. When anyone else would drive on the lane of power arrogance and easily slip into ideologies of self-justification, this significant ideological shift championed by the state's leader resonates loudly with the founding objectives of Akwa Ibom. So far, Governor Eno has been impressive in his efforts at leadership renaissance that takes its model after the patriotism of precolonial leadership. In that era, it was the peace amongst brothers and the force of unity that made the difference. Beyond the state, he is showing across Nigeria how it can be done again.
