This is interesting. which bad spots do i choose along the ejigbo ikotun road or along ago-okota expressway. Or is it our street roads that can not even referred to as roads no matter how you try to stretch your imagination of that word.

Anyway, we will the forms and hope that they fix the roads.

has Lagos earned more money than either Sierra Leone or Ghana? I'm not sure but it's possible.

Make no mistake, I agree with you that we need trees but LASG seems to be getting the order of everything wrong. they think they can legislate everything, no street trading, no crossing of bridge, no this, no that. How many have they been able to enforce, ask yourself why does someone want his/her child to be hawking in the dangerous traffic, why do you prefer to cross a road that to use the bridge, why do you want to cut down trees, why do landlords prefer to collect 2 years rent etc.

Well if you agree with them that they should just churn out the laws, no problem it will just make more criminals out of us and that is no rproblem afterall our national pastime these days seems to be testing the boundaries of what is acceptable in our land. Let me try to clarify what people are saying. There are 2 components to the issues raised above (1) El Rufai, and (2) the issues raised and presented as facts. How you feel about issue #1 should not affect issue #2 as long as issue #2 are not based on opinions.

Forget issue number 1 and let’s focus on issue #2, the issues raised.

The majority of NIgerians are not capable of objective analysis not to talk of having an independent opinion. The average Nigerian decides everything on sentiments and most Nairalanders measure below the average NIgerian when you talk of these two issues.

I guess NIGERIANS know all that El_Rufai is saying but who wants to pay the price especially when you are not guaranteed a PRIZE. Oshimhole said it so brilliantly so many years ago when he said the people who want us to tighten our belts are protected from these same belt tightening policies. I don't need to read El-Rufai and I'm sure I agree with him but UI can bet that if he emerges as President today the way GEJ emerged, he probably would be doing the same.

NIGERIANS know PDP cannot lead us anywhere but if you have the right connections, you could become rich beyond your wildest imaginations all of a sudden so they keep voting PDP. The day some NIGERIANS realize they will never get to give their own "testimonies" of they had no shoe but they now have billions without owning a factory, creating jobs, doing nothing productive they will think deep. Until such a time PDP, ACN, ANPP forever.

My fear is that we may never be presented with a good chance to make a peaceful change as we had in the elections of April 2011. I hope I'm not right for all our sakes.

I have to agree that the OP is right to a large extent. Agreed not all the houses are bought with stolen money but it must be a sizeable number. It's also possible that some of these owners have been jailed in foreign lands. we all know that Houses start to depreciate as soon as you finish building it so for you to allow the house to depreciate and also not get any rent on it then you must be really rich and if you are really that rich in NIGERIA most times there are k-legs. It is also possible that these houses have issues relating to family squabbles but these are not so common.

Another thing that also works well for these unoccupied house owners is because the state Government has no records and do not collect house taxes or else you will also have to pay for that even though you are not generating any revenue.

I think this may turn out to be a good move. If they really ensure that no corper serves with Private organisations including Children of Ministers and other BIG MEN, then I'm convinced that it won't be too long before we all realize that NYSC needs to be scrapped.
I keep saying it that NYSC is one of the causes of employment in this country but people seem to disagree. Some even think that without NYSC people won't get jobs.
The truth is that NYSC or not, if the vacancies really exist, companies will hire. it may not be you or me but someone will be hired!

Is this why Nigeria can not build a refinery (1 refinery) or even fix existing refineries. Ivory coast has a working refinery if you don't know.
The sanctions did not owrk because the Iranians can work around it and can produce things for themselves, meanwhile they still have the same problem of corruption.

just so that we understand that corruption (wicked corruption) has destroyed this country, I will use the Iranian (they are corrupt also) example. They've been under sanctions for a while and becos they've been importing petroleum prodcuts for a while, they knew they were vulnerable to US/UN/EURO sanctions and prepared for it. they decided to build their refineries.
, I have to put this in perspective, IRAN, a country under all sorts of sanctions will complete 7 refineries , all in less than half the time that NIGERIA, the darling of the west has been talking of building a refinery and we are yet to identify the location of any one of them. By the way, if you are thing OANDO's refinery at overhyped Lekki FTZ, then forget it. OANDO has said that they are not planning to build any refinery for now!

They failed NNPC test, but the banks and the multinationals still want them. Maybe that's why NNPC is stuck as a company. They can't supply fuel, can't supervise oil companies, all they want is to go on courses abroad even when the refineries are down.

even the existing drainages are not maintained by lagosians.fashola can not deploy workers to clean drainage 24/7.both the rich and poor in lagos are the dirtiest set of humans i have ever seen.throw away your refuse from your rolls royce and out of the keke marwa as if it is a sport for which you will receive a medal.

there is little fashola can do short of demolishing half of the houses in lagos to build more drainages and carrying a cane to flog both rich and poor (big and small) as they litter the town.

I guess you didn't figure that it's the responsibility to Govt. to clear drains. That's why we have LCDA's and Local govts instead they are used to settle the boyz. There's all sorts of levies in Lagos yet nobody does the job. As early as 5am, koboko wielding boyz are collecting money from Okadas in a state with a Government that expects you to pay tax. Go to Alausa and see the number of people doing nothing. The govt pays them pittance and they in turn pretend to be working.
I quite agree that Nigerians are dirty and stubborn but it all started when Governments failed at all levels. Have you ever been in traffic and the first person on the one way (facing oncoming traffic) is a police car.

The problem of most of Lagos is poor planning. ACN sees Lagos land as their crude oil and they are selling everywhere including water and sand filling everything then somebody says the lagoon is not receiving water. The lagoon is not receiving water yet they sand filled it close to Third Mainland bridge.
Did anyone see the lekki toll road yesterday, I guess it's also our fault that they gave a road construction job to a bricklaying company. To be fair the problem did not start with Tinubu but the problem has gotten worse under ACN's watch. Have you seen some of the companies given contracts to construct drains and the kind of job they do, sometimes these drains are like water storage tanks. Drainage construction is not a special technology, but it requires some thought, not just mixing cement and gravel, but the Local Govts in Lagos do not know that.

For those who don't know VI and Ikoyi have a comprehensive drainage system but it's all been blocked. You can even build close to drainage if you are sensible not to block it like the EXXONMOBIL building but how would they know you are a big man if you don't block drainage? Look at Ilubinrin, Dolphin, Parkview, the developments by the Lagoon on Ozumba/lekki way. Everybody wants to stay in Ikoyi/VI.

I'm sorry i couldn't collect my thoughts and arrange them well but it irritates me to think that anyone will absolve Lagos Govt. of these terrible calamity brought on the people by years of thoughtlessness on the part of Government but then Nigerians have been conditioned not to expect from Government. They took JFK's words to heart when in actual sense the American Govt. still does a lot for its people.

For those who think that because Americans have flooding, then Lagos can't be immune from flooding, please just keep quiet if you have nothing to offer.

Just wanted to dispel the wrong notion by one respondent that the oil industry does not create jobs. The oil industry creates jobs and can create huge amount of jobs. The problem with Nigerian oil industry is that it is creating jobs for non-NIgerians. The economy of Angola, Stavanger in Norway, Venezuela, Aberdeen in Scotland, Abu Dhabi etc is based on jobs created by the oil industry. Alberta in Canada will soon join, Houston to some extent is.
We have refused to allow our own people to enjoy the oil industry while focusing on just sharing of oil blocks.

Some of the things we can look into are Oilfiled cement production, Steel pipelines and tubing production, oilfield chemicals and mud production, engineering services etc.

Also, our economic ranking by the world bank is not what we should be chasing but good quality of life for our people and jobs, if we focus on that our ranking will also be good. India is one of the top 20 economies (Nigeria's vision 2020) but if i ask where you want to live between India and Sweden or Finland or Norway, I'm sure we all won't choose India or any of the BRICS above these Nordic/Scandinavian countries.
